Case Files of an Urban Witch #8

A Mom, A Wand, And A Mission

Rate this book
Is it just a nightmare or a premonition? The suburban witch, Lucy Heron isn’t sure, but she has a bad feeling something is coming, not just for her family, but the entire city.

Sometimes intuition isn’t wrong…

Shadow Men are on the prowl, trying to return the world to shadow by fulfilling a prophecy. A prophecy that would plunge Los Angeles, then the world, into darkness.

It could be the end of the world as humans know it.

Magicals are losing their shadows resulting in comas, and eventually death. Lucy and the Silver Griffins need to track down who’s behind it and put a stop to it fast.

Lives, and maybe the world, depend on it.

Meanwhile the small fry in the Heron Family have been busy. The Mini Griffins and the Underfoot Brigade have magical tasks of their own.

Can all three groups achieve their goals and save their friends and family?

Okay, I'm a late bloomer who's a big DC comics fan and spent my childhood summers on the Jersey shore but I was born under a wandering star and have lived in different parts of America ever since. That's enough about me. Need to feel inspired today? Looking for something to make you root for an ordinary hero? I'm all about that in everything I write.

I love a good tale that makes me wonder about things and I love a story even more that leaves me feeling inspired or like I'm capable of doing more than I realized. That's my goal with everything I've ever written. Some of the stories I tell involve twisting, turning thrillers and others have a lot of magic.

There's something to be said for getting lost in another world and coming out the other side feeling a little better about yourself or the possibilities in front of you. That's basically the best part of life in a nutshell, no matter what kind of story I'm setting out to tell.

Thank you for checking out my stories!

Everyone was really busy in this last book of the series.

Lucy Heron and her family were all engrossed with the various new jobs, groups, and magical protections, that they were all a part of.

But, when magical beings started showing up in Lucy's friend, Sarah's, Magical Clinic, with every single one of them in a coma, and with their shadows - along with their magic - gone, it seemed that something really bad was happening in LA.

When Lucy herself is attacked, but manages to recover slightly, despite the loss of her shadow, she knows that it will take everyone: The Herons, every single Silver Griffin they can contact, the Tolderai, and the Underfoot Brigade, to fight the Shadow Men, who were causing these attacks, and who were preparing for their own Apocalypse!

This was a great ending to the series, and I loved that even the Mini Griffin's were involved with most of what happened.

This was an enjoyable Cozy Urban series, and it thoroughly intrigued me, to the point that I just had to keep reading each of the books that comprised it.

But, now that it's finished, I'm off to start the next series on my Oriceran reading list, which is The Evermore Chronicles, with book one being: 'Magic Inc.'

So, once I've read this new book, I'll catch you on the flip side, and I'll let you know what I think about this new story!

Over all this series was not the best that I have read by Martha. There were some great spots. She has always had the ability to bring forth her characters to life, even those that are fantastical. Each of these books had something that didn’t feel right. Maybe it was covid and the lockdown, or most likely her, own health issues.

The thing that I hated the most in this book was Kelly. She tried to seriously injure Lucy! and could have killed anyone else that was on the road. It was treated like a harmless prank akin to the smelly ones. Nope! Full stop! Kelly should have been charged just like any other magical. The idea that Lucy was just going to get her back was juvenile. To add to the idiocy Max and Charlie decide to play mediator. I realize that Kelly is supposed to be a foil for Lucy and we are meant to dislike her. There comes a point however when that changes to out and out evilness. Back to the things that were good about the book. Jackie! I love her. I also enjoyed Susan having a larger role. Her heart is always true.

On another note: I always read the author’s notes. This time I am two years behind. Martha’s loving tribute to Leela made me cry. Pets are a part of our families and it is always heartbreaking when we lose them. My belated condolences. I hope Lois Lane has lessened the hurt. I still tear up whenever I think of my Mischief. It was 10 years ago this month that we lost him.

Each one better than the last

I’m fairly certain that my five star review and that title, above, Should make my feelings about this particular book relatively clear.

However, in another novella that Michael Anderle and Ramy Vance collaborated on in which they killed off all of their many peers (including themselves, no less), Prior to death and dismemberment several of the authors were discussing the utility and difficulty of writing a good blurb… A good blurb, it was maintained, should try to summarize the book in the most intriguing way possible and do so within the boundaries of a single sentence. I thought I might try my hand at it here:

Everything changes for everyone in this latest book as new roles are assumed, old troubles fade away and the coming apocalypse is averted once more (of course). With cookies on the side!

I couldn’t resist adding the cookie reference, but I think overall it still passes muster quite well…

Enjoy!

Saved the world again

Lucy and the Silver Griffiths have to figure out who is putting magicals into comas and stealing their shadows. At the same time her husband is getting ready to quit his day job and start full time at his dream job. All gets wrapped up nicely in the end and as usual, another awesome book filled with magic, action and family.

lights out?

I love reading stories about this wonderful family and all their friends. This time it could be lights out for the whole world if all the good individuals can’t beat back the darkness.

More Lucy Heron and Family PLEASE? ?

Loved this series, and could NOT let it sit unread unless I was Sleeping or at work. Knowing how the loss of a Beloved member of your family feels, I believe you will be joined again. Take Care.

A Mom...

Already missing Lucy, her family, friends, co-workers.
Reading the author notes about Leela's death and Martha's cancer has made me even sadder. Read the series.

Another great story

I enjoyed this book, very much. The books just keep getting better with each successive book in the series. The main characters are believable, fun, endearing, and the reader wants to know more. I have no problem recommending this book or the entire series.
