The House is an interactive romance novel – come find your fantasy, where you are in charge.
Hi there! I'm a registered nurse and author. As Cassandra, I wrote the Year of the Nurse: A Covid-19 Pandemic Memoir. As Cassie, I've written numerous (and very hot!) paranormal romances, sometimes with my friend Kara Lockharte. I live in the Bay Area with one husband, two cats, and one million succulents.
This is a Erotica Romance that you chose the type of story in want. I really enjoyed reading this book, and I loved that you chose how the character moves through out the book. I read this book with every choice, and I love seeing how the choices changes the character. This is a very steamy erotica romance if you choose that path. I think this is a very well written story. The only think I wish was changed was the ending because I just felt it was just ok. I was kindly provided an e-copy of this book by the publisher (Caskara Press) or author (Cassie Alexander) via Booksirens, so I can give an honest review about how I feel about this book. I want to send a big Thank you to them for that.
I was given this book for an honest review. This was one hot ass book I would love to visit The House. A woman who has just gotten out of a bad marriage receives a package with a key and two tickets. What's a girl to do? She went with it and I would have to. This was a wonderfully erotic story about living out your fantasies. The book had f/f and f/f/f with m/m and m/m/f. This is my first time reading this author and I am looking forward to more.

Review This is a blow back from being a kid….remember those adventure books that we had to choose which adventure we wanted to follow? Well, this is exactly that but for adults instead full of sex, erotica and BDSM.
This was HAWT…..along with HOT and I had to go back and pick different adventures so I could read all the awesome sex scenes!! ;-)
Re-Cap This starts out with a woman who receives a key along with an invitation to a special house for one night. The keys opens each door that holds a different sexual adventure. For one night she gets to live out her fantasy without any repercussions!
You know I'm the one who'd try a book like that without any hesitation. I'm not a prude. And the format, the concept itself was fun. There are series of possible scenarios, and you are put in the heroine's shoes where you have to decide what to do in the end of each scene, which button to press. It's almost like a computer game.
I think, perhaps, this originality was the book's downfall. Because there is a variety of choices, there is no depth to the heroine and the situations she gets into. There is also a limit of scenes, and the gaps in between, the fillers end up being the same no matter where you go, which after a 3th-4th time becomes irritating.
Despite the variety of sexual topics, the impact on the reader is very superficial. The only true scene I enjoyed was the knife play with the butler. There was just something in there, some sort of a spark. I think if Cassie made a conventional linear story instead, with fully fleshed, deep characters, it would have been so much better. Of course she could have tried to do the same with the current format, but the amount of work would have been mind-boggling... I know Cassie is a great writer, but The House didn't work for me due to aforementioned reasons. So I don't really want to recommend it unless you are in a mood of computer game format in your erotica.
This was a very unique and interesting read. It reminded me of many of the very early computer games from the 90's with crap graphics, but choices for your character. ("Take a left or right at the junction of the three hallways etc..")
The main character of this story is you, the reader. Set in current time. Nothing supernatural or magical. You are a modern woman, recently divorced. You are rebuilding your life in a new city, with a new job that you have not yet begun. You receive a package containing first class airplane tickets to a different city, and a key.
All throughout this book, you are given choices that alter the path of the story. Open the package or don't open the package. Get on the airplane or don't get on the airplane. The e-book contains links in the questions that take you to different paths within the story.
Once you get to the house (mansion), a handsome butler greets you and explains that you are the Mistress of the house from sundown to sunup that night. Your key will open every single door in the house.
Oh, did I mention this book is erotica? Actually, it's EROTICA. Wooo Hoooo.
The first real story-line choice is between three doors. Behind one door, you hear water running. Behind another door, you hear two men talking. Behind a third door, you hear ropes sliding against one another. All three doors contain sexual scenarios for you. Also, there are doors within these rooms that allow you to keep following that story line if you're enjoying it.
I have to say, I really enjoyed the mask room. I checked out every one of them and re-read a couple of them twice.
I managed to get the HFN ending with my first choice. Of course I had to go back and check out the other endings as well.
Erotica content is mild to kinky. I should say that every type of coupling/group thing was covered. If you enjoy any one particular thing, you definitely have the option to pursue that path in the story.
I only wish it had a HEA ending...but that might have seemed out of character for the premise of "The House".
This is 100% a fuckventure. Pure erotica. And probably the only kind of book where I supposed the point of view being in second person. It works.
I haven’t read a choose your own sexventure in years and I’m glad I came across Cassie’s.
There is literally something for everyone in this book. Possibly multiple somethings for multiple everyones. I do enjoy learning things about myself with these kinds of books, like what I like and what does absolutely nothing for me. I’ve checked some boxes here.
I honestly don’t know how else to review THE HOUSE. It’s fun. It’s enlightening. It’s sexy af. It revved me up more times that I can count. It delivers on its promises. Go buy it. Money well spent.
Acquired from the stuff your kindle event. A choose your own path kink story. Mysteriously invited as a chosen guest, there is one key that opens many doors. Ranging from M/F alone time to MFM and probably M/M and of course plenty of F/F. There’s warnings when things are about to get a bit heavy, although it’s a short stint with wax and electricity before moving on to knife play.
The masks annoyed me. I kept coming back to them and I mean after the knife, it wasn’t really that impressive. Finally through the silver door and towards the end. I pretty much went through every door so I’m happy that one journey through the House was enough.

Above the door is a phrase carved onto a ribbon of stone: All is forgiven, all is forgotten.
The House by Cassie Alexander is a choose your own adventure erotic (if you want) story in which you are gifted a key which unlocks all of the rooms in a mysterious mansion--yours to explore from dusk till dawn.
Behind each gilded portal lies someone or something fantastical; if you stumble across anything not to your tastes, a graceful retreat is allowed and even encouraged. Change your mind? Sally forth anew!
The scenarios with the masks were my favorite for their inventiveness and scene-setting details. Unlike the preceding chambers, these were less "here's another room with someone in it who you can bang" and more about the (s)experience. They were fantastical and whimsical.
Overall, the concept is perhaps more exciting than the execution, and I think there should be more of these.
Thank you, BookSirens, Caskara Press, and Cassie Alexander for a free copy. All opinions are my own.
this was a cool concept, but the choose your own adventure was let down by the fact that it all led to the same places, just in different orders. there was no unique storyline, it just let you pick in which order you did things.
the stag mask had me confused (if you know who the master is) and the horse mask??? oh my god what in tarnation
if you do read this do yourself a favour and skip the horse mask scene
That was wild. Straight smut but the concept of the book was interesting how you could decide what the main character would do and the doors they would choose. Every time you read could be a different story, I read and went through all the options so I could see everything.
In my opinion it was good but lacking in story. Its well written but in general wasn't my preference when it comes to books. This one specifically was too much go, go, go and not enough story but to be fair I think that was the intentions of the author.
I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This is definitely an interesting and fun concept. The whole "choose your own" erotic adventure is certainly something Ive never seen before in a book. I think for me the disconnect happened both in the execution as well as the lack of sensory details. When the reader jumps back and forth between scenes (ie- if you chose "the wolf" in the dinner party scene and then chose to go back to the room and choose again) the opening scenes for each choice open up as if you are just selecting it, and not returning from a previous scene. I think it would probably be an easy fix to switch the wording around a bit to be more encompassing from both the new selectors as well as those coming from other parts within the book. There are also a few places where the person was in the midst of an action, but when you make the selection to go on (lets say her hands were tied)- suddenly her "your" hands are free when you continue with the adventure.
Also, for me with romance or erotic fiction, I prefer them to be an all encompassing sensory experience and not simply just the act itself. Because after a while that gets super boring if the characters are not otherwise engaged. So to me in that regard the characters fell a bit flat. As the "reader" how did "I" feel as I took that flight, or as I got off the airplane, or when I made my selections. What did the rooms look like, smell like, was the bed soft or hard, was his skin sticky, did he smell good, etc etc. There is that aspect lacking in a lot of the book that really made it hard to make a connection.
Overall if Goodreads allowed for half stars, I would give it a three and a half or a three & 3/4 ... since I like the concept and for the most part enjoyed the "adventure" but it could do with a bit of reworking.
First off I need to start my review with an apology. I promised a review for this read and it's taken me two months to actually write it. I'm sooo sorry Cassie, I'll do better next time! :)

Thoughts, Likes, Dislikes: Have you ever read a book that you wish would go another direction or that one of the MC's would do something else??? I, myself, have been put in this situation many many times and finally and author has given me an alternative. In The House you are presented with the fantasy of options. Do you go in door number 1, 2, or 3? Do you watch or do you participate? I absolutely loved it! My only suggestion for the future would be to please give two different directions when presented with a situation. For example, I'm not a particular fan of FF so I would have loved to make if an MF if possible. Unfortunately it's been a while since I've read this so I'm going to re-read it again so and write a better review. Until then I hope you'll give this book a try and see which direction your fantasies take.
I was given this book by the author to review. I have to say, if you are looking for straight erotica, this is the book for you. If your looking for a great story line as well, this may not work for you. You follow the main character, which is written in the first person through multiple sexual scenes throughout a house. The book is written with the intention of allowing you, the reader, to choose what the main character should do. Unfortunately, since this is a book, it really doesn't work too well. The premise and idea of this is unique, however seeing in written into the book makes it a little confusing. There are times when the character jumps back to something experiences before.
Most of the scenes are extremely detailed, and leaves little left to the imagination. It's a great read if you are just using it to read a couple scenes at a time, I would not recommend this as your afternoon tea reading. I could only read a little at a time, then need to pick up something else.
Overall, I give this book 3 stars as the writing is good, the scenes are well detailed. Unfortunately, when I read this genre, I like to look for a little story line.
I LOVED this book! It was so interesting and different and creative! Is there a plot and a real story? No. Do you get to know the characters? No. Did I want it to end? Definitely NO! We don't even know the MC's name. A woman receives an invitation and a key, along with first class tickets (we don't know to where.) She is recently divorced and decides to take on this unknown adventure. She ends up at The House, where a night of erotic fantasy awaits (she doesn't know this until she gets there.) What is unique about this book is that you, the reader, gets to decide where to go - which rooms to visits, which adventures to participate in. Did I mention that each one is hawter than the next? I really hope the author puts out other books similar to this one!
I love love loved this book. It was not your typical average read. You have the option of choosing just how much you pleasure you're willing to partake in. I loved how truly interactive this book was and the sex was MIGHTY HOTTTTT! I went back time and time again to enjoy the pleasures of the house and enjoyed it every time. If you haven't read it yet, please take a chance. It was definitely worth it...
This was revolutionary, absolutely game-changing. I wish I could give this 20 stars! A choose your own adventure book for adults?!? I must say I did not read the full description so was very pleasantly surprised by having choices and being able to choose where the story goes!! It was fantastic, amazing and has potential for everyone to enjoy because of all the different scenarios. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
WOOO what a book.. i really liked it! i did read most of the book but there are some paths that i didn’t really feel like reading. but wow. the concept of this book was so freaking fun and entertaining. and like it being smut AND a choose your own adventure… i mean who doesn’t like the sound of that?
obviously the writing wasn’t PERFECT (even though it was actually pretty good, just had some grammar errors and some confusing parts) and some of the paths didn’t really match up to other parts. but also every choose your adventure book has things like that… since it’s a book.
so yeah! i really enjoyed it (😏)! i went down the black door at the end (which i prefer that ending over the white door) and i kinddaaaa wished that it wasn’t a fade to black at the end but also i did kinda like it cause it just left it open to your own imagination lmao
my favorite parts were definitely the wolf, the siren, the two girls in the bathroom, and the butler! the butler was my absolute fav teehee
i want more 😭 they tricked me cause it says book 1, but then you click on it and there’s no other books.. honestly it would be so awesome if the author wrote a second book but it’s like a different world. like it’s the same premise but it’s all new and like not connected to this one. oo and it could be differently themed or something. but that’s just my brain craving more so :)
oh also something that just kept popping up in my mind is how tired the main character must be 😭 like girlie did ALL of THAT in one single night lmao. idk how she felt good after even just the first few rounds

This was a choose-your-own-smexy-adventure book into a house of all the things. I thought that was - very clever premise, and I wondered why I haven’t come across anything like it before.
It was extraordinarily hot from the moment you entered the house. (You were given several opportunities to back out, you know!) The thing that lowered it for me was it covered a lot of different kinks. Which, once I got into it I thought, “oh, yah. That makes sense.” But many of the… erm… situations… your character finds themself in… just pulled me out. And the writing really felt like the paperback books of this genre from 40 years ago.
But like any child of the 80s with the original choose-your-own-adventure books, I chose every scenario. And the author was thorough. 🤣
I’ve given this 4 stars because it’s a super creative premise, and the author catered to a lot of different types. For me personally, it was a curiosity read, but not one I’ll pick up again.

The choose your own adventure style writing was very fun! However, I don’t think I was the target audience for this book. Turns out, I’m a very tame person. This book explored many different styles and textures, and I found myself hurrying through, or directly skipping, some of the most detailed, and perhaps more interesting, scenes. Additionally, I’m a one man woman, I believe. I spend the entirety of the book waiting for her big moment with the Master, hoping he would be the ending of the story. I was disappointed that we only get one small interaction with him, innocent in comparison with the rest. I liked that we got a chance with the butler at the end, but was still expecting the Master and it felt short for me in that area.

This is an Erotica Romance where you choose the type of story you want. I loved that you chose how the character moves throughout the book. A woman who has just gotten out of a bad marriage receives a package with first class airplane tickets to a different city, and a key. Once you get to the house, a butler greets you and explains that you are the Mistress of the house from sundown to sunup that night. Your key will open every single door in the house. What’s your choice going to be?
(I read this book with every choice, and I love seeing how the choices change the character. The book had f/f, f/f/f, m/m and m/m/f.)
I received a complimentary copy of The House for review. When I say this book is hot…. I mean it. I really enjoyed the choose your own adventure aspects, and reading this as an ebook makes it super easy to jump around from choice to choice. I’ve read my share of erotic novels and this ranks among the top few for great descriptions, consent, and non-problematic interactions. Nothing drew me out of the fantasy until my adventure ended. Sure, it’s somewhat predictable but honestly romance is full of tropes and generally gives us what we expect. This is why we like it.
Choose your own adventure book - adult style! … Or should I say naughty adult style … yep! This book was SO MUCH FUN to read. It’s interesting, intriguing, sexy, and just a little bit suspenseful. The premise is that you are a modern woman coming out of a rough patch in life. A mysterious package arrives containing a key and a promise of an indulgent escape, complete with airline tickets. Who couldn’t use a little getaway from life? (There’s a little bit of everything in this book as far as interactions go. MF MM MFM FF FFM) What do you think? Will you take the escape?
The choose your own adventure format was fun but I felt like I was missing out on things. There were times where you had multiple options in one room but the way it was laid out, you couldn't easily do one option and then do the other option, you had to go through several steps again.
At the other end, sometimes the choices after each didn't make sense. I think I had her take three showers between any activities at one point.
I think it was a fun read and not one to take too seriously.
