Rosgard the Great Navigator and his comrades-in-arms continue their journey as part of the armada of the Sleepless Ones to the shores of Zar’Graad, impatient to tear off its magical veil and be the first to step onto the new continent. The first trailblazers can expect some truly impressive bonuses - so even though no one yet knows what those rewards might be, the stakes are just too high to come in second.
The two archipelagos - the Ring of Peace and the Wings of War - are only a stopover on the clan’s way to their ultimate prize. But even there Rosgard manages to excel, his actions influencing the life and power balance in the entire digital world of Waldyra. And don’t forget, he’s still to run the final stretch of the race, with his evil rivals breathing down his neck. They’d do anything to prevent the Sleepless Ones from getting the upper hand. Rosgard’s triumph looms ever closer - but will his mission succeed? How will this long-winded story pan out? The answers to these and many other questions can be found in Book 9.

I shan't be taking recs from Reddit at this rate; this wasn't it. You can take any element present in this series and point at a different series that does it better, even the execution of a combination of these elements has been done and bested. This series is completed though, and that's definitely a positive. So many plot lines left unattended, that this completion feels incomplete. But oh well.
*minor spoilers* Book 9 and the final entry in this LitRPG fantasy series about an advanced online virtual reality game. The Great Expedition story arc is over and unfortunately the story abruptly ends even though many plot lines remain unresolved. There is a sequel or spin-off series that apparently continues the adventures of Rosgard but I think I'm done. While I liked this series overall and don't regret reading I jotted down some additional thoughts below:
- This series has taught me that I prefer LitRPG series that focus more on progression. While initially Rosgard was more focused on progression that quickly changed and it was more like Rosgard just getting into crazy adventures. I feel like a lot of things happened for Rosgard due to luck, his Great Navigator golden ticket, or due to some of his companions such as Orbit or Roskie. And everything felt rushed due to the pressure of the upcoming Great Expedition. - The fantasy world being an online game made it so that death was not a permanent affair which made everything less suspenseful. The stakes felt too low. - There was a big plot line about Rosgard collecting a legendary set of equipment that was never concluded. He ran out of time and the worst part is that I don't think he ever wore that equipment since he was afraid of other players killing him and stealing it. - There were some noticeable translation errors or mistakes in this series that confused me. There were also sentences that felt off where I thought maybe something got lost in translation. - The series ended so abruptly that it was not very satisfying. One of the main reasons I tried reading this series is that it seemed to be finished/complete and maybe it is if you also read the follow-up series but I initially did not know there was a follow-up series. If I had loved this series a bit more I would probably be happy there is more.
“This was a fun book. I am glad that I read it. You should try it too.”
As the title says this is an advance copy review and as such is a reflection of my enjoyment of the book and in no way reflects cost to value analysis. I hate trying to define my enjoyment and describe facets of it that would appeal to someone else. It is simply not my style. But for the sake of those fishing for clues:
Character development: great Game elements: moderate Harem elements: none Tone: definitely one of my favorite litrpg stories. sad to see this one end.
I will happily discuss the book with you on Goodreads if you are so inclined. As always, I am open to debates and arguments, but also vain enough to seek acknowledgement, so feel free to roast me or applaud my efforts. Either is acceptable, because if you are paying attention to me then you are at least considering the book. And THAT my friends is exactly why you see my comments here.
First I would like to thank the author for a wonderful series. I first found these books when the author tried to publish for the western world by way of Google translate. It went poorly is a nice way of saying it was a complete and utter mess. However I was hooked. A few years later I was asked if I would be interested in checking the translation from Russian to English and I of course jumped at the chance.
Since then I have received an ARC of each of the nine books. It's my hope that my feedback helped make this series more enjoyable to readers and that we found most if not all the mistakes and translation errors.
It has been my honor to be a small part in the effort to bring you this story. I hope that in the future I will be allowed to continue to help bring you more of this world and other works by this author.
Finished this yesterday but has been almost done for day, kept procrastinating as I didn't want it to end. This adventure with Rosgard and the Sleepless ones has been an absolute favourite of mine and I'll remember it for years.
Not much else to say without spoiling since we are 9books in
Excellent culmination with even more hooks for eventual spin offs, if done. I know of one I look forward to reading
I hope the new spin off is translated soon. I have really enjoyed all these stories and it is no wonder that this series inspired a lot of other litrpg.
