I wanted to give this a 3.5 but I have to settle with a 3. It was a nice book but the problems I had with it are the same I've had with the other books by this author, she writes nicely, there is nothing wrong with her writing or her stories, for me the problem is her lack of passion, they're too clean even, I only read clean books so I obviously approve of her books being very clean but there still needs to be passion, tension and romance between the leads so i think it needs a PG tone of them to a regency, while I feel this authour is G rated, so her romance in the books is usually just a growing companionship rather than any romantic scenes or tension growing between the leads and without passionate kisses, her books barely even have kisses at all, usually just a small kiss at the very end with no real discription for it, her books would be great with just a dash of passion. I just wanted more from Philip and Anne, more than just being told they're spending time together. It's just lacking in the romance, but the characters were good in the book, I enjoyed them all except the guy she was semi-engaged too, he was just no but everyone else was nice, I actually liked her cousin despite her immature hysterics, i find it entertaining and because she reminded me of myself in the sense everything in life to her is like a novel, some gothic romance novel she reads, she rejects reality in favour of romantic stories and I do the same so I did enjoy her. I really liked Philip, he was my favourite in the book, but I was annoyed with the end of the book, Anne is the one who is in the wrong at the end, she is the one who treats him unjustly but yet it is still Philip who goes to repair things and it's Philip who confesses all his feelings while we hear none of this from Anne, it should have been Anne who made the first move given it was her fault so I was annoyed by that, i also was annoyed we weren't told exactly what caused their break up 6 years before, it was explained that they were younger and more hot tempered so this caused them to break up but they spoke of an argument that lead to it but we were never told exactly what that was, I feel like out of the two, Anne was definitely the more hot tempered one, Philip was more level headed so I feel she was probably more at cause for the break up as she was the second time too, but overal it was a nice book, I just wanted more from it.
