Finn O’Grady is the Devil in a custom suit. Not even God will deny a man like him.
I'm certainly not God. I'm just a woman he's set his sights on. One he’ll never relinquish.
His idea of being ‘kind’ is to give me two options.
One Destroy the reputation of a man I love.
Two Bed him . . . and he’ll forget about what he knows.
One night only.
He doesn't know I'm a virgin.
And when he finds out?
One night isn't enough.
-- Not for him, and not for me. --
But his world is forged on the misery of others.
He might have a house in the Hamptons, stare at the Hudson when he sits behind his desk, and manage a billion dollar hedge fund, all of that doesn’t change the fact that he’s a mobster.
One of the infamous Five Points.
Being with him puts me in danger. But my heart?
Well, it’s been in danger from the first moment we met . . . *-*

Aoife runs a small tea shop in Five Points territory and they want the building. She refuses to sell. So they send in the top man Finn to “convince her”. Finn is instantly smitten with Aoife. She is definitely his type. Irish and thick in curves. He makes her an offer she can’t literally refuse. Once he has her he knows he will never want anyone else.
I really loved this story. First it is about the Irish mob of New York which is rare because most mafia books are about the Italian or Russian mob. It was interesting to see the intricacies of that mafia family. Another reason I loved Finn is because of the love he has for Aoife. She is thick but he loves her curves and helps her to accept her body as beautiful which she has not in the past. The chemistry between them is explosive.
This book is packed with action and romance. The storyline was engrossing and I was engulfed in the world of the Five Points family. I highly recommend this book.
Eh, this was boring. It started out good but then it just went downhill the rest of the book, especially as soon as the insta love started coming in. I almost DNFed at around 60%, but decided to just skim the rest, which was honestly a waste of time.
The writing was just okay. Sometimes I liked it, but it was hardly enough to hold my interest. Also, I hate all the stuttering that went on. It was so weird. The heroine was always stuttering the first word of her sentence, but then it went on to the big, bad, mafia hero stuttering the first word too, like wtf? I like heros that can be vulnerable, but whenever he would do that, it just made him seem immature tbh. Then combine this with the book being probably almost three quarters of inner monologue and repetitive thoughts and words, so not only was I bored out of my mind from those, but the dialogue didn't make up for any of it either.
I actually liked the couple and story at first, and I was excited for it to be an age-gap, but there was hardly any mentions of the difference in their ages, so what's the point of marketing a book as an age gap if it's not going to play any part in it? This was hardly dark too, if anything, it was a lighter mafia story. The book became more about their family drama than anything even dark.
Then the heroine was also super weak. The author gave her an attitude to make her seem strong, but she was so easy to give in and had literally zero backbone. Sign the papers and give up your shop? No protest. Have sex with him just because he told you to? Sure why not. Don't open a shop right now even if it's your dream? I understand. Get off the pill even if you aren't ready for kids? Hmm, lemme think about it, sure. She literally didn't know how to say the word no or even know how to stick up for herself. She even said yes to marry him after only 4 weeks, for literally the dumbest reasons. She kept using the excuse that he works for the Mafia to listen to whatever he says. Also, she was a virgin at 25, I hate the virgin/manho trope, and luckily we didn't see his manho ways, but I hate how easily she gave into him. And when she does, she literally turns into a sexual deviant the rest of the book. It was so cringe.
Then we have the hero who was also just okay. I really liked his dominant strong personality and how much he was obsessed with her at the beginning, but then it just became a lot of constant telling and not showing it. I do like how loyal he always was to her though. And he was a pretty good guy, though I hate how he kept such a big secret from her in the end, though I'm thinking it might be revealed later on. One thing I didn't like about him, was that even though the heroine was definitely his type, I really started to dislike how much he would mention her boobs or thighs or whatever. Like yes, I get you like curvier girls, but it almost started seeming like it was skinny shaming at times. Then he would non stop mentioning how NOT so skinny she is, and it would sound like fat-shaming. I was so not here for how much he described her body. Even though I think he tried being really sweet at times about her body, it started giving off the opposite effect, and made it sound a bit condescending.
I did like that it is a safe book, which are hard to come by in mafia, no OW/OM drama, but there was a lot of mentions of his father/boss's infidelity to his wife, and it made me uncomfortable. Especially because there were a lot of excuses about it, and it caused not only for the hero to be abused when he was younger, but for the heroines mother to be murdered, and the heroine just never got any of the justice I felt like she deserved. I really liked Aiden (father) at first, but after knowing the extent of his infidelity and how the hero is his son from his side chick, I felt bad for Lena. She didn't even know the truth about it for almost 40 years which is pretty screwed up. I also hate how the author made it seem like everyone would forgive his father's infidelity because it gave them Aiden, ummm no. It's still pretty messed up. Especially to take your son into your home without even telling your wife that he was born from his infidelity. Ugh. I could probably go on, but I hate Aiden, and hopefully none of the other sons turn out like him, because it's pretty screwed up to do that to your wife who couldn't even leave, and then continue to lie to her and your family for decades.
Overall, this was just an okay book. After reading some reviews for other books by this author, it seems like most have a lot of inner monologue and little dialogue, so if they are anything like this one, I won't be reading them, nor am I continuing this series.

I was really excited to start a new mafia series, but I do think this book spent more time setting up for the series and I didn't really love the romance that was focused on. Finn shows up at Aoife's tea room in order to convince her to sell for mafia business. Aoife says no, so she's blackmailed by Finn and then propositioned. Aoife finds herself in an intimate, addicting relationship with Finn that turns into a whirlwind romance. This book has heavy insta-love, so be prepared for that. This is also almost 500 pages, which I did think was too long. The inner monologues in here lasted too long and there were a lot of steamy scenes that I didn't think were necessary. The ending also carried on past what I thought would have been a good ending, but I do think the author was trying to set up the rest of the series. Since I wasn't obsessed with the romance, that made this book feel too long and not engaging. I will say, I am intrigued by the side characters and the next book is a marriage of convenience, which is one of my favorite tropes. I'm going to continue on with the series and hope that I enjoy the next books better!
What does it mean when you finish a book and you feel like you just ran a marathon? Because that's how I feel right now. My GOD this book was long. As a reader who gives zero fucks about page count, I'm kind of kicking myself for not being aware of what exactly I was getting myself into when I started this beast.
PHEW. Okay.
This was my first Serena Akeroyd book, and right from the jump I totally fell in love with her writing. The initial meeting of Finn and Aoife (thanks YouTube for helping me with that pronunciation) was so damn sexy that I strapped in for a nice steamy story. Little did I know, contrary to both the title and cover of this book, I was in for SO MUCH more.
This is an Irish mafia book in every sense of the word. Don't jump into this wanting a little story with your smut. TRUST. It's a fantastic love story, riddled with crazy twists and turns that you never see coming. I thoroughly enjoyed it... but by the end I felt like I was watching LOTR Return of the King. It just kept going and going and going and going...
It also gets a little bogged down with the classic TMI problem. Even in the middle of the best scenes you get these "info dumps" that aren't always necessary. I'm loathe to use that term because I usually equate it to bad writing. This isn't bad writing... it's just a little too MUCH writing.
I wish that I would have chosen something a little less robust by Ms. Akeroyd for my first read. Even though I'm not too interested in continuing this particular series, I do want more from this author. The bits of steam in this book are REALLY well done, so I'll do the work and find something better suited to my tastes.
I came for a snack and I got a damn Thanksgiving dinner, here. But that's my own fault. Next time I'll read the menu before ordering.
This wasn’t the best start to this mafia romance series. It was too long and dragged out at certain points and I wasn’t a fan of the loose ends regarding the heroine and her mother. I do appreciate an obsessed hero who loves the heroine and all her curves, but because he works more on the financials for the family, there’s not too much mafia action. If you love your mafia romances with non-stop sex, this might work better for you. I do want to continue with the series because the brothers show promise and I know many people love the other books more!
This was a fabulous read genre-wise it’s an Irish mafia romance there’s an age gap as well Aoife (25) and Finn (37) it definitely ticked every single one of my boxes. A really well written and engrossing story that instantly pulled me into the action.
Aoife Keegan runs a tea shop in a building the Five points the Irish mob wants to acquire trouble is she refuses to sell one because it was her late mother’s dream and two she’s unaware who the real power behind the potential sale is. Mob money-man Finn O’Grady is the man sent in to seal the deal. Solving the roadblock with some convenient blackmail Finn adds another clause to the deal he wants Aoife in his bed and he’s not that fussy about how he accomplishes his goal used to getting his own way in all things he issues an ultimate one that Aoife finds herself agreeing to.
Aoife has grown up in this neighbourhood and the one thing she knows is you don’t say no to a Five Points man not if you know what’s good for you. I mean even she herself has been paying protection money into their pockets. As a local business owner and growing up around these parts she knows the score.
Discovering her lack of experience Finn finds himself feeling very possessive as well as addicted to everything about Aoife. Totally smitten he knows he wants her for keeps she’s now it for him and he’s definitely in it for the long haul.
Aoife at first glance may seem a bit of a pushover especially considering the way she initially caves to Finn’s demands but she’s actually far from it. She picks her battles and her previous exposure as a local has definitely paved the way she knows exactly what’s expected and acts accordingly. And Aoife may submit in the bedroom but outside it’s a different matter altogether she can definitely hold her own. she’s also in lust and happy for the first time in ages. lacking confidence in herself being a curvy girl Finn empowers her he adores every inch of her and isn’t afraid to show it unleashing Aoife’s inner vixen.
The relationship between Finn and Aoife isn’t an angsty one they do fall for each other fairly fast it’s built on part mutual attraction and also the fact that they actually like each other and even with this scenario this didn’t feel instalove at all as they weren’t expressing undying love instantly just there mutual fascination and addiction of each other the love declarations came later.
The relationship built here was actually very beautiful very intense and felt very real. This author really has a way with words and I had no trouble believing in the connection these two developed together. Finn is actually a real sweetheart to his girl despite his criminal profession treating Aoife well and with respect and care. Aoife I really liked especially how she didn’t go off half-cocked when it came to following orders regarding her personal safety she was sensible and wasn’t a hot head or a drama Queen.
This was also sizzling in the heat department and these two set the pages on fire with their raw and potent chemistry. There’s danger and darkness but it’s balanced by so much heart I actually devoured this in one sitting and was instantly hooked into the unfolding drama. This one gets all the stars from me it totally deserves them and was absolutely epic loved it and definitely recommend.
It’s rare when I love the heroine more than the H but in this case… with her being Brave’s h incarnated, it was the only option. Strong whilst not perfect, sassy but not always 100% sure of herself. She was imperfect as a human being always is.
As for the story… first half of the book felt rushed because we got to the second boring part with the war and him dealing with his guilt.
All in all. Not bad but not great either 🤍 I’m gonna continue with the series for sure.
Age gap mafia romance and insta love. Juvenile writing style. Repetitive inner monologues. Misogynist hero. Doormat heroine. Uninteresting mafia storyline. Uninteresting family drama.
I might have liked the romance if the main characters were likable. Both hero and heroine stank of misogyny. At one point, hero has an entire inner monologue about women belonging in the kitchen. Heroine is also a hypocrite. On the outside, she acts like she loves her best friend. But on the inside, she keeps referring to her best friend as a jealous and petty bitch.
***I only read 74% of this book before writing this. I became so irritated that I decided to write this as I was feeling it. I may update it or change it once I finish.*** This is not really my kind of book. Virgin woman in her twenties. Fat and ugly to everyone (which is such a weird, awful trope that can involve being too big or too small, having large scars or birth marks, very small breasts, being ill in some way etc…like it’s just not helpful or romantic for the woman to be ugly to everyone except the romantic lead. I hate it) except the god-like man who becomes hard and desperate upon seeing her photograph. Love at first coerced fuck. Marriage within like 2 months. Virtually no relationship to speak of outside of sex, violence and her performing wifely duties like baking and cooking. Aoife just accepts every bullshit mafioso thing because her mom raised her like that. Okayyyy THE MOM WAS WRONG!!! Your mom shouldn’t have raised you to believe it was ok to be raped by mafiosos because you lived in a neighborhood they think belongs to them (it doesn’t and therein lies the problem with mafias). I can’t stand the best friend Jenny. And I have major problems with the way the author portrays women. Lines like when Aoife muses, “I hadn’t met many women I liked”. Like in your WHOLE LIFE you never met women you liked? Why not? Are you an asshole who can’t get along with others? Also, this line, “There weren’t many women Lena approved of.” Again, why? If you can’t get along with women then the problem is YOU, not 51% of the population, lady. I get so sick of people saying things like you’re not like other women or you’re the only women I’ve ever cared about enough to not fuck over. Can we stop with that? Especially when women write things like that. It’s so catty and insecure. The rando Senator Dad was so weird and added nothing to the story. I despised the casual talk about the sex workers getting murdered, beaten, mutilated, tortured. The boss’ wife just slaps the other wives around when she feels like it and Aoife “had to hide [her] smile”. This kind of shit is not entertaining to me. If it were a book about abuse that would be one thing. This is-allegedly- an erotic romance. BDSM is great and I love reading about it. Coercion can be hot as long as the partner wants to do it in the end. But physical abuse? Love bombing and then disappearing? Being forced to accept adultery, violence against innocents, blow jobs that make you gag and have tears streaming down your face, not being allowed to masturbate or have orgasms without permission, the guy using your body as a cum receptacle and on and on. It’s not sexy to me, it’s not entertainment. It’s like some sadistic, misogynistic fantasy that I feel icky reading. I’m the farthest thing from a prude and don’t want to kink shame, but I do have these opinions. I don’t think it’s wrong to enjoy this book or to get off on this book, but I personally don’t like the themes.

Having trouble rating this because I liked everything except the romance 😳. Yup, you read that correctly. Let the rant begin...
Finn is the financial advisor for the Irish Mob of NY and he needs to buy a building for them. He is rich, high up in the hierarchy and has a preference for plus size women. Aoife is the only one not selling. So he goes about to bribe and coerce her into selling and sleeping with him. Cause he's an a-hole and he is a bit obsessed with Aoife and her curves. Does she fight? No, cause he's a mobster and she is also a 25 year old virgin and also has the hots for him. They end up getting married cause they are some sort of fated-mates type people and the sex is so great so she just can't say no. This blew my mind. 🤯
The first 30% or so I was so pissed off at the female character, how weak she was and how unreal the romance was. And her inner monologue... ugh! Things finally picked up when some kick-ass mafia action was introduced. I loved the scenes about the gang war and negotiations with rival mafia families. And the romance started to feel a bit more real as something happened to Aoife after she got married and couldn't have sex for a while. The top Irish mafia family was done really well, with interesting and fun characters and the writing style was good. Finn was a 50-50 character for me. Aoife finally grew some balls after 60%. But not enough to redeem her. And I just couldn't relate to their romance at all.
However, I am not giving up on this series just yet. I have just started the next book because the blurb was interesting and I like the main character in that one. So... 🤞
3.75 Stars Aoife (ee-fuh) owns and operates a tea shop that was her deceased mother’s dream come true. Finn works finances for the Irish mob he’s involved in. Finn’s leader wants to buy the tea shop and gentrify the neighborhood. Aoife doesn’t want to sell. This is basically what the description says this book is about, but this is pretty much just the beginning of the book. Finn quickly manages to get Aoife to sell her business and sleep with him. Aoife actually remembers Finn from her childhood, and that combined with the ruthlessness of the 5 Points makes Aoife’s decision to not only sell, but sleep with Finn, easier.
The rest of the story is mafia heavy. I feel like this book was really concentrating on how their mafia world worked, who everyone was, and what roles they played. The first half of the book had me, but the second half felt like it dragged on. I became bored with the story and the distance between our two main characters. I understand Aoife was healing from a spleen rupturing bullet wound, but I was so impatient to move on with the story already! At over 400 pages, I feel like this could’ve been about a hundred pages shorter.
In all fairness I should say that I loved that Aoife wasn’t a skinny ass heroine. I loved that Finn was so into her filled in body type. I also loved that Aoife didn’t do anything stupid. She was a strong, mature heroine and I enjoyed her. She didn’t feel the need to act like a tough heroine just to prove a point. Finn was so in love with Aoife, and I appreciate his ability to be honest with himself and realize how much he not only needs, but loved Aoife.
And btw... what was the point of finding out who was responsible for the hit and run that killed Aoife’s mom if they were just going to keep the truth from her anyway?! I feel like it shouldn’t have been Magdalena. There was no justice to be had there. It’s like it was a excuse to make Aiden Finn’s father.
Also... that ending felt abrupt af. I hate when a book ends when I think there are more pages.
Not too thrilled to continue on with the series but, hey, maybe one day.

It started off well enough, the first like 40% were okay - from there it started dragging a lot and I kind of was ready for it to end.
The heroine talked a lot of talk but when it came down to it she had no backbone. She was always letting others, including the H, persuade her into doing things that she didn't want to do at first, and she always found a way to justify it in her head. Her bff was shitty and she let her get away with it, cause she was her only friend?
It could have done with more editing and some of the writing felt off - there was a lot of stuttering of first words in sentences for no reason. Lots of repetitive thoughts. The amount of inner monologue was driving me wild - almost reaching into Kristen Ashley territory - though I let KA do it. The first few chapters were basically all inner thoughts about how hot they were for each other and all the ways they wanted to have sex, mind you the H had only seen a picture of the heroine and she had seen him once in person.
Something else I didn't like like was how it was all talks and (again) inner monologue about the mafia/the business but no action. Often mafia romances don't really feel like they're about characters in the mafia. While in this case there were definite mafia scenarios and dangerous situations, the H never got his hands dirty. He spent SO much time working - he's the money man - and on his freaking desk, you'd think you'd see some of the business yet you never saw him doing anything.
There was good chemistry between the main couple and I liked seeing the parts with the brothers mostly. I really disliked the dad and the mom thought, they were screwed up tbh. Plus I hated how it ended with unresolved things and secrets between the H and the heroine. I might pick up the brothers' books, I don't know yet.
All the main female character did was call herself fat & act like it was a miracle this man wanted her. I can't stand when the heroine has no self esteem. Lame.
This is such a well written story and I am so drawn into this series and this author has portrayed such a great family that I am so drawn into, but this is definitely not my favorite of plots that I have seen within this series. But despite that, I found the sex scenes HOT (probably the most heated out of all the books that I have read) from her. Because wow....but the story was something different. I did like seeing the background to the family and the connection that our two main protaganists have to the Five Points family. And such intrigue and mystery that is shared within this story here. I am so curious to read the latest installment of the series.
Whew bitch this was a long one but it was SO GODDAMN GOOD. I can’t believe it took me so long to read this 😒 I’ll allow someone to slap me for that.
Anyway this is mafia & I mean like REAL mafia I felt like I was in school learning all the in’s and outs of the mafia world & lifestyle. Ms. Serena had a lot of shit to say boy bc this baby was very long. It sets the foundation for an entire series so it’s understandable.
The story is about Aoife & Finn who fate brought together because she owns a bakery on land that Finns boss wants to rip up & turn into something else. When they meet he literally blackmails her into selling & also into bed with him. Yeah fucked up but somehow I fell in love with him anyway. He’s alpha, possessive, educated, family oriented & so so obsessed with her.
I really loved the plus size rep in here it was done so beautifully & I felt very seen. This story had ALOT of twists & turns & so many secrets I was never not entertained or thinking “wtf”. This was also so goddamn spicy Omg Finn is so nasty 😩 He has a thing for leaving his juices on her overnight or making her not shower afterwards. Also can we talk about pearl necklaces?!
The writing was beautiful & the story was equally as beautiful. I can’t wait to continue on into the crossover. The only reason it’s not getting the full 5 is bc I think some of the info took away from the live story at times but that just might be a me thing. Also please check your TW before reading!
3.5 stars I liked this but I would have liked a bit more tension drawing out the romance. It was high heat and relied a bit too much on the physical connection being the cause for love which is always a tough sell for me. It wasn't quite balanced enough emotionally for me.
THE REVIEW FOR THE BOOK THE AIR HE BREATHES BY SERENA AKEROYD.
GENRE: CONTEMPORARY DARK MAFIA ROMANCE. AUTHOR:SERENA AKEROYD. TYPE:BOOK #1 IN THE FIVE POINT'S MOB... CAN BE READ AS STANDALONE. POV: DUAL POV...FIRST PERSON. MY RATING: 5 DANGEROUSLY SEXY STARS.
Finn is an Irish mobster in the disguise of a businessman who is willing to pay a large sum to AOIFE for her small tea shop. But when she refused to let him buy her out, he digs up dirt on her and blackmails her not only to sell her business but also to sleep with him. AOIFE has been living her whole life in the streets owned by the Irish Mafia. She knows the drill... If someone refuses them ...Then the outcome is never in their favor. Now, she lived her life trying not to in the spotlight for any trouble...but she catches the eye of a high ranking mafia made man...
This author is just amazing...She can write paranormal as well as contemporary books (Thats what i have read so far from her) with stunning plots which just leaves you wanting for more. I love that the female character had her own imperfection...really made the book more realistic. The steamy scenes were just capable of burning your Kindle. The mafia drama... family drama... suspense...all made this book unputdownable. I have never loved a mafia romance so much... Finn was every thing a mafia mademan should be...handsome.. Alpha.. possesive of his woman...hot...:) good in bed ... Aoife..( her name is sooo unique) ..she was innocent...loving..but definitely not a pushover.. when Finn pushed her she pushed back...She is not like a typical perfect figured heroine...She was curvy and shy ..also self conscious...but Finn was so supportive and such a caring partner...like he has eyes for only her...I just adored this couple. This was a reallyyy longg book ...but when it did finished I was left wanting for more...
I’m DNFing at 17%. The writing is so cringy, describing her vagina as her gate just made my toes curl- and not in a good way. The bedroom scene I read was as far from sexy as possible.
Already I’m finding there are times that I have to force myself to continue reading. I’m unsure if it’s meant to be funny or is so ridiculously OTT that it just appears that way. Either way, the book is so poorly written that I have no desire to continue.
I really enjoyed this book. Love, Love, LOVE Finn! He's a total alpha male! He has set his eyes on Aoife and he doesn't back down.
Aoife was a strong female. She had a strong voice when she needed it and I was grateful she stayed strong through most of the drama that happened throughout the book.
The internal dialogue was too much at times though. Towards the middle, I feel like 100 pages just could've disappeared. It's hard to explain because it will give part of the story away, but it was too much. It felt like the same thing being said over, and over, and over, and over...I really need strong female leads in these mafia books, and Aoife was close to crossing over to the other side. Thankfully, we moved on and the story continued.
Hands down this is a 5 star simply because of Finn!
"I’d never called someone mine before, but Aoife was. There was no way in fuck I was letting her go now I knew she’d only ever taken my cock. Shit like that in my world was sacred. Virgins weren’t women you fucked and left behind. You didn’t pull a coyote ugly on them and sneak out of their bed the next day. You put a ring on their finger. You made them your wife, and you put your babies in their bellies."
If you would like to read a book fetishizing Irish people, here you go.
The hero is a mobster, adopted by a feared clan. He has slept around but lurveees Irish women. He sees a photo of the heroine, who’s pure Irish, and gets obsessed. He decides to blackmail his way into her bed, but then the Hymen warrior intrudes. Suddenly she is wife material, as well as a perfect submissive, who he must marry. There is a lot of bloodshed, drama and secrets in this book. The characters are pretty unidimensional, but the sex is well written. I have to be very honest, I found some of the internal monologues quite discomforting. For example, the book beginning with the hero praising himself, him talking about skinny versus curvy women and why he preferred, Irish women, the whole revenge saga, the heroine brushing off her friend’s concerns as pure jealousy… something was off.
Welcome to the Five Points Mob Universe. Finn O'Grady fall hard for a fiesty red head who owns a tea shop he wants. At first he only wanted one night with her, but that one night turns into him becoming possessive of her. Aoife is not one to just roll over and accept defeat, then Finn walks into her shop and it isn't her friend Jenny he's looking at, but this gorgeous man is looking at her, he wants her. That just doesn't happen. Then she finds out that he is a Five Points man, she was raised that you don't say no to them. Her and Finn end up falling in love, but they don't have it easy. Finn finds out a few truths in this book that he wasn't expecting and one of them he has to keep a secret from his wife. Will this secret come to bite hom later? We'll have to keep reading the rest of the Five Points Mob Collection to find out.
Audiobook Finn and Aoife are the perfect couple even though their relationship started out rocky. I've loved this couple since this book came out as a duet originally. I love the saying they have tattooed together 'The Air I Breath Belongs to You '. That is so romantic. this is the third version of the audiobook I've listened to and it's the absolutely the best. Jacob Morgan and Emma Wilder narrating Finn and Aoife, they really make the book come alive.Audiobook Finn and Aoife are the perfect couple even though their relationship started out rocky. I really enjoyed this book. I loved Aiofe and Finn. They had really great chemistry. I also really liked the rest of the O’Donnolley brothers. I loved the Irish mob aspect of the book.
I did think this book lacked the grit of other mafia books that I’ve read. I also thought it was a bit too long. The middle of the book, after Aiofa was hurt, got kind of boring. The way that the “war” between the Columbian’s and the Irish ended was super anticlimactic, but I did enjoy the twist at the end with Aiden and Lena.
I’m looking forward to the next book in this series.
I'm not new to mafia romance, I quite love the whole aspect of it and the depth of the dealings and conflicts in the mob life. They were portrayed very well in the book. The writing was likeable but I didn't really like the romance. It was so insta-love that I couldn't understand how exactly did they fall in love?
Aoife Keegan owned her deceased mother's tea shop but Finn O'Grady, the Irish mob's financial advisor wanted to acquire the place and was adamant that Aoife sells her property. So, he bribes her and coecers her into sleeping with him. He is apparently obsessed with her and her curves. (Yes, Aoife was a curvy fc and it was mentioned a lot to the point that it got annoying) This was supposed to be an age gap romance but their age difference was hardly even mentioned throughout the book. Also, the book was 524 pages long. The first half was good and then the story went downhill. The inner monologues were repetitive and too long and because of that, I got bored after 80%.
Aoife was a literal doormat. Seriously, the girl was too meek for my taste. The teashop was her mother's dream and she so easily gave it up, didn't even put up a fight, even Finn was disappointed at that lol. She let him and his family dictate things for her she didn't want to do in the first place. Ngl, at some point because she became a little sassy, she thought she was a badass, but she wasn't. I grew to like her after some 60% because she was cute and wasn't dramatic but she was too complaint.
Overall, I liked the details that were explained in the book but I wasn't a big fan of the romance. I'm going to continue the series because I'm intrigued to know more about Declan, Aiden Jr, Eoghan & Connor, hope it gets better from the next book onwards.
I really enjoyed this story. There was a lot to like. Finn & Aiofe were fun to get to know and the steamy scenes were hot and intimate.
I like the few very interesting twist and turns. And some parts really took me by surprise.
What I didn't like was how overly wordy the story was. There was a quite a bit of unnecessary and unwanted words. Quite a bit of that was also repetitive. That cost this story from being 5 Stars
There were a couple of typos scattered throughout. But not enough to be bothersome.
Other than the overly wordy sections it had a nice flow and I'm looking forward to reading more from this author.
I found the plot to hard to grasp and the story was too all over the place. Nothing about the story makes sense from the assumptions of submission to grasping the supposed mafia wars. The female lead goes from struggling to give up her virginity to all of a sudden becoming a sex fiend.
