Ruthless MC #5

Hades: Stephanie and the Merciless Reaper

Rate this book
I was born a few moments after midnight on January 1st. On my 21st birthday, my father throws me the most lavish New Year's Eve birthday party Baton Rouge has ever seen—then he tells me I'm a woman now, and that means I belong to a man he owes a blood debt.

No, not a man. A demon who feeds on my family’s pain and suffering. Especially mine.

His name is Hades Fairgood. But he is neither good nor fair.

He's the twisted ruler of a biker underworld, and everything my dead mother warned me to avoid. Dirty rich, stupid hot, and merciless. There's not even a smidge of human left in his bitter, vengeful heart. I find that out the particularly cruel way when he renames me Persy--short for Persephone and has PROPERTY OF HADES tattooed across my back.

So that I never forget...

I'm his possession now. He owns me, mind, body, and soul.

He’s a needlessly beautiful monster who I must escape. Of course, I must.

It’s just…

The longer I’m with him, the more confusing it becomes. Is he a merciless monster or a wounded man in need of love? My love?

It doesn’t matter. It shouldn’t matter either way. I just hope I can escape his wrath before he ruins me.

I preorded this book and stayed up till midnight to get it and read it in 3 hours and let me just take a pause to say that, this book is a MFing duet and she ain't say shit about it!!!!!! I'm tight!!!!!!!!

Let me tell you something else! I RARELY write reviews, the books has to be truly awful for me to write about it. I'm content to read books that are terrible and quietly allow the girlies to collect their coins in peace and stew in my own mind but this, oh you gotta hear me.

Let me start by saying I LOVE this author!!! I have read about 90% of her catalogue and love her stuff, but THIS! NO MA'AM!!!!!! What were are NOT gonna do is try to pass off him kidnapping, torturing, abusing and tattooing a woman(without her consent), isolating, locking this woman in a dog cage, stripping away this woman's sense of self, dignity and humanity and making her eat out from a dog bowl🤬🤯 all because he has beef he with her father (and low-key his mother cause really he's jealous his mom was working for that family) that literally had jack shit to do with the woman he was actually torturing and call this the basis for a romance novel. (I know holy run-on Batman but i'm just so mad!)

Listen we have all read books that toe the line between sexy and reprehensible and called it a win. I would be the last to get up on my high horse and call some of the smut I've read where the consent is dubious at best and coerced at worst (looking at you Colin and Mason Fairgood) literary triumphs. But we have to draw the line somewhere, Hades was an unforgivable, cruel asshole to Stephanie this whole book, her father was shit and everyone enabled him to torture, isolate and crush this woman, while talking bout how he wants her so bad and she gotta repay her fathers blood debt!!!! Boy if you don't GTFAFMWTB and go get some therapy!!!!!

This best part of the book was her finding the loaded gun and pointing it at him and getting ready to shoot. Then she takes a turn for the stupid and starts having epiphanies about how they have built intimacy and how she just CAN'T shoot this man that crashed and burned her life and is TORTURING her and lets not forget HOLDING her captive, with whom she had to bargin her virginity to get an end date to her imprisonment!!!!!!! WTAF?!? I would have rejoiced and called it a HEA if she had shot him in the face and rode off into the sunset on her own.

This book did not need to be a duet and if you were going to make a duet you should make your public aware. Had I known it was a duet I would not have preorded it, I would have waited until the second came out and read them together. I hate when authors do this, it feels like a shameless money grab and is frankly disrespectful to your loyal readers.

This author has been screwing the pouch on these epilogues for a while now and I've just been like whatever but since i'm writing i'll toss that beef in too.

I'm going to start with the cover. That man! He is handsome and sexy as all get out! Unfortunately, that's the beginning and end of any positive feelings that I have regarding this book.
Since first being introduced to this couple, I've been wondering how the author was going to pull off a romance in this particular story arc. Well, as far as I'm concerned she didn't because abuse isn't sexy or romantic.
It is important to know that you'll need to read the previous Ruthless MC storylines to understand what I'm talking about, particularly Waylon. You'll also need to know that I have to give a few very minor spoilers in this review. The spoilers are primarily for previous books featuring Persy/Stephanie and Hades so if you haven't read them you may or may not want to proceed with this review.

When we're introduced to Persy in Waylon, she comes off as a highly abused woman kept on a very short leash and treated without an ounce of dignity or respect. She's been tattooed as property and not allowed to interact with others who are not trusted by Hades. In Hades, we get the full story and it just raised up so many negative emotions. To me, abuse is not sexy! It is not romantic. And neither is this book.

The author does explain Hades' motivation in treating Stephanie (Persy) the way that he does. And he treats her terribly. While not physically abusive, he is no-holds-barred mentally abusive of this woman. I understand his rage and top that with him being a criminal... well it isn't a stretch that he'd want to exact revenge.

The problem is, there aren't any redeeming moments. There isn't anything that really makes me feel like he's a good man or that he regrets his behavior. Or that his behavior pains him in some way even though he may think it is necessary. What's meant to pass as redeeming moments just feels fake.
By far, a majority of their interactions are negative, degrading, and filled with palatable hate. When Hades does act as if he cares (I'm not going to call it love because it isn't) it comes out of nowhere. Yeah, he wants her sexually, but it's possessive and obsessive. Again, not love. Suddenly we're told there were cozy domestic moments between them over a 3-year timespan that we weren't a part of. Cozy domestic moments between a prisoner and her captor. And her feelings for him? Hate, and a heavy dose of Stockholm's Syndrome.
Nah.
No thanks.

The Tess and Benjamin(or was it Brady? I really didn't care) story seemed like filler. That space could have been used to show us how actual love was developing between Persy and Hades.

I give this book a 1 star and can't recommend it. It disgusts me.
Oh, and by the way... This is only the first part. Yes it is in 2 parts.
I was given an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

What happend here.

My first revew didn't get posted. It was erased before I could post it. It was long. It was raw. This book is triggering. The black female lead is put in a dog cage and branded like a slave. I dnt recommend this book. I wish my other review could have posted but that didn't happen. This was a devolution of the bwwm genre. I won't be reading book two. I won't purchase another book from this author. This was a sad read. Again, I repeat, the bw in the book was trafficked by her dad, sold for a debt, out in a dog cage, branded, made to eat from a dog bowl and renamed. She was terrorized and psychologically tortured. Victimized. Sexualized. And this a love story. Wow.

Unfinished & Unsatisfied

First off I’ve been rushing with TTs’ stores since day 1. This turn of events I’m definitely unhappy with because mostly the wait time & how it’s unfinished. I was told it would be 4 books then the first was split so not we have 5. Now this one is split & confusing with a whole other 2 plots that can be for other stories. The epilogue is a mess it feels like the continuation of the story but it’s not it’s a cliffhanger.

My number one complaint it this is a scam. If the series is gonna be longer this should’ve been announced WAY before the book actually comes out. Not given as a teaser at the end with a cliffhanger. That’s b.s.. I could see if I waited several months for a book and it was complete or there was a series but if your advice 5 books initially it should be 5 period. Or released at the same time like Tiana Laveen I’m just saying. Complete the book. I’m used to a complete story. So if I got a hard copy would I have the whole book cuz I ordered this shortly after I found out about Waylon. Preordered the whole series. Before Waylon came out.

If this continues idk if I’m going to continue purchasing.

Sorry not sorry. Your books always came with a finished guarantee. Now this… smh me no likes

The Joker and Harley Quinn

I couldn’t get down with this book. It was too messed up for me. I’m sure there’s going to be some type of HEA but I don’t care to see how it will end.

Stockholm Syndrome at it’s finest! I’m Stephanie is going to love him after all that crazy stuff he did. But the bonded over Marvel movies! He let her sleep in his bed instead of in a cage! Surely this MUST mean SOMETHING!

I rolled my eyes SO hard that they almost fell out of my head.

However, if you enjoy Stockholm Syndrome romances, abusive family members, and that toxic relationship that the Joker and Harley Quinn have, you’ll enjoy this book.

The only reason I gave this book 2 stars is because of Tess and Brady. I would like to read that.

One minute Stephanie is celebrating her 21st birthday and the next minute her life is turned inside out. She could never have imagined the she would be betrayed in the worst way and made to pay for a wrong she didn't make. Now what will she do and how will she survive?
Hades has been waiting a long time to exact his revenge and now that the time has come, he holds nothing back. He wants someone to pay for all that he has suffered, but in the end will he get satisfaction or will he realize that revenge was not the answer?
I have to admit, that I have really mixed feelings about Hades. The story line is definitely not for the weak at heart. Ms Taylor does a great job in telling this heartbreaking story, but I'm not sure if Hades has any redeeming qualities that makes me want to root for him or these two becoming a couple in the end. Even still, if your looking for a bad boy who turns somewhat okay and maybe good in part 2, because yes this ends in a cliffhanger, then you will definitely want to read Hades and Stephanie's story.

Cruelty is the point

I wanted to like this book…I really did. But, I didn’t. I don’t mind a mean guy but, this level of cruelty is not my jam. At all.

TL; DR—he’s cruel, she’s soft, lacks passion and I didn’t/can’t ship them.

It’s in the title—Ruthless. However, there is a reason I usually stay away from MC books and this is it. 50% of the way thru and I started to wonder if the “hero” could be sufficiently redeemed in my eyes and, he just couldn’t. If inspiring strong feelings was the goal, Ms. Taylor succeeded. I just was not moved in the way I expected. I’ve read everything the author has written that I could get my hands on (and loved most of them) but this was almost a DNF. But I’m not a quitter. Truthfully, I found myself kinda hate reading it and that’s something I just don’t do! #timeisprecious #soismymoney

Pros: incites strong feelings about the characters and their decisions, more than 1 story to tie things together

Cons: passion is lacking, feels flat, you won’t be rooting for anyone (except Daphne), aside from Stockholm Syndrome, you’ll wonder why they’re even speaking to each other, let alone being together, many unresolved questions.

Arc review:
I have mixed feeling when finishing part one of the Hades & Stephanie saga. I'm not completely in like with Hades at this particular moment. He has some redeeming to do in my eyes. Although I can empathize with his loss his blood debt with Stephaine was not his finest moments. I can't say that I like or dislike Stephaine at this point because she spent most of the book suppressing herself to get through the five years. I definitely was rooting for her escape though

I also didn't care for the two chapters dedicated to this Benjamin character who I know will have a book but for the purpose of this book it just kinda through me off a bit.

The epilogue has me definitely intrigued not going to spoil it but I can tell that the answers to my questions is going to be explosive.

I'll give this 3.8 rating its a good read but I don't feel like I walked away knowing the characters. Hoping part two dives a little deeper

where to begin

TT is always a great ride. Well written and always unexpected. I was uncomfortable with the “ownership” aspect…ancestral memories of enslavement…sorry that is how I see it.

Then the wanting you since you were 16…not the best angle, but I can live with that.

What I have trouble with is your marketing. Please stop with the time released duets. Release the books when the entire series is done. You are taking advantage of your loyal readers. We will buy both books…just release them all at once. June 14th is too long of a wait to see how this train wreck gets unpacked from your creative mind.

I have pre-ordered the next book, but I am on the hunt for my next TT because you keep treating us…your loyal fans like side pieces…unless we subscribe to your patron…not right Ms. Taylor.

I haven't finished this book yet because I hit Chapter 8 like a brick wall and had a WTF moment. Who is Benjamin and why is he in this book? And it doesn't appear he's being mentioned again. Did another book chapter get mixed in? TT used to write some bangers!!! Somebody needs to check on her because this is not her writing. I'm going to finish and report back. 🤔

Once a Great Author

Someone is using Theodora’s name and writing these horrible books. There is no romance, the characters are unlikable and the demeaning way the women are treated is beyond! The Theodora I’ve come to enjoy was about the romance and the hero being living to his woman! Theodora if you’re out there send a smoke signal and your many fans will come and rescue you!

Very torn between 3 stars and 4 stars

I'm really torn on a rating. I hate duets but this might be one of the fews book that I am glad is getting a duet because Hades is so horrible there is no way to redeem him in one book and book two needs to consist of at least a solid 100 pages of pure groveling although sigh

There are elements of the book I unequivocally love: Stephanie. She's a great character, there is depth and personality to her. The elephant parable had me misty and her realizing the truth about her "friends" (sob) So good, so, so good. Towards the end I could see TT taking her down the path of stupid she likes to take all her heroines down at the end but again, I think the duet part could save it. Loved the outsider perspective on the MC, it was interesting to see certain scenes from different perspectives, made me look kinder on some characters(cough) Amira (cough). Loved the use of third-person for Hades and first-person for Stephanie. That was just elegant storytelling, chef's kiss. Appreciated that the mutilation of the tattoo wasn't glossed over but also wasn't dragged out. There was no pretending it wasn't as horrible as it was. Loved their sexual relationship. That I think might push me towards the 4 stars. It was an element of exploitation and abuse that a lot of writers in dark romances love to gratuitously go to town with and, in my mind, make the hero completely irredeemable and TT didn't. For all his faults (and OH BOY ARE THERE MANY) he never hurts her in that way. It's a big thing that makes a redemption possible.

Now the stuff I didn't. Good ole' Swamp Boy. 100 pages of groveling. Minimum. Are needed in book two. He was horrific to her, someone he loved, like love at first sight LOVED for something that she did not do and was not responsible for. I am not okay with punishing someone for crimes they did not commit and are not responsible for. These monsters thinking they are entitled to loyalty they did not earn from people they do not deserve.Tuh! Hades will never be my book boyfriend. The Charity Ball cruelty was, ugh, I felt all of that. Do not like his sister, or any of those side characters or anyone really just willing to sit by and let this wholly innocent person knowingly be tortured for something she did not do. And this is one thing that I wasn't sure if I wanted to put in as something I loved or hated. He tortures her, make no make mistake he tortures her. But very little of it is physically painful, it's primarily humiliation and EMOTIONAL DAMAGE. This is something I both liked and disliked? You don't have to break someone's arm to hurt them and I will never root for a hero who breaks someone's arm. But at the same time, how can I root for a hero who breaks someone's spirit? Because he really does break her spirit. Yeah, 100 pages of groveling.

But I still enjoyed the story more than I thought I would.

For all TT fans prepare yourself before reading Hades. It is a wild ride and unlike her other books. It includes chapters for another seemingly unrelated couple and the ending will have you scratching you head. It’s labeled book one so you already know it ends on a cliffhanger. What I am really surprised about is I did not like Hades for a majority of the book. I’m still waiting for a full redemption. Some of the things he did in the name of revenge…I just can’t. But that’s how I know it’s a good book. It can pull emotions out of me, like these people are real! Don’t make me wait too long for part two 🫶🏽

RTC but I like my dark romances dark, like very dark. I really like reading about main characters doing all kinds of things to their love interest, especially super dark and toxic ones. I grew up on horror books so stuff like that that always appeals to me. Especially when it's mixed in with a massive case of Stockholm Syndrome. I just really like reading dark and toxic romances in books and it was the case in this book and I just really enjoyed that. This book just appealed to a lot of things I enjoy reading in books.

I Received an ARC of this book and this is my honest opinion.

not as good

I’ve read a number of books from this author, and honestly her books have become lackluster. And this book is a perfect example. There was potential but after reading about 70%, I lost interest because it really didn’t start. I kept on hoping even after I read so much. It was a lot of droning and not enough about h & h together. The end was rushed and the epilogue was even more confusing. Spoiler alert, they’re not done, there is another book. Not sure I want to read it. So unfortunately I gave it a 2 stars only because I like this author.

Series: Ruthless MC #5

⚠️Check triggers before reading⚠️

On Stephanie's 21st birthday, she finds out her dad made a deal to hand her over. Why? Because he owes a blood debt to a ruthless MC President named Hades. Stephanie knew Hades before he was President. They saw each other one time were lovestruck. But tragedy struck before they had a chance to explore their feelings.

Hades never physically harms Stephanie, but he does some really awful things to her. He has feelings for her, which complicates things around settling the blood debt owed to him. Stephanie shows kindness to him (frankly he doesn't deserve it), but he is weary as he believes her to be a liar like her father. Hades frustrated me because he refused to see how sweet Stephanie is and let what her father did influence how he viewed her. I had a hard time connecting to him or rooting for him. I'm hoping Theodora can redeem him in part 2 because I want to love him.

Stephanie is the best part of this book. She is put through the ringer and I don't know how she didn't completely break. She does what she has to do in order to survive, but even then the fire inside her is still there. I loved her intelligence and her ability to adapt. She was sweet to Hades and you could tell she did have a level of care for him. I hope she gets to be happy with her sister one day 🥺

The premise was there for this story, but for me the pacing is what made this a challenging read. The time jumps were confusing at times and I had to reread parts to make sure I understood what was going on. The epilogue confused me (I thought it was all a dream at first) and it took me a beat to figure out what was going on. I am very intrigued about what happened that influenced that cliffhanger. We only got bits and pieces to give us some insight. I'm very curious how we went from the Bayou to a completely different state and look forward to part two.

Thank you to Theodora and Valentine PR for the ARC!

This was different?! Hades and Stephanie / Persephone get the full treatment, after having been supporting characters in the series previous books. I must admit I have been curious how TT was going to redeem Hades from the abysmal man he has proven to be thus far. The readers get to see Hades' backstory and motivations. However I just can't accept this as justification for his abhorrent treatment of Stephanie. I leave it to other readers to make their own decisions.
I found the cadence / transitions in the story to be a bit different to previous books. I anticipate seeing if TT can win me over with Hades transformation.

I am dazed and confused by this story. There is a story within a story and a cliffhanger. I was looking forward to this story mainly for the backstory of these characters. A blood debt owed should have been Stephanie/Persy's father to pay. When Stephanie had a chance, she should have picked up a bigger object and beat him with it, yelling, "I am not my ancestors!" at the top of her lungs. I wasn't ready for this at all.

I received an advance reader copy of this book from the author. I am under no obligation to review the book. This review is purely from my perspective, and all opinions are my own.

Not rating this because I was only reading it to see if the author would be able to make a believable HEA or even make me want to see these two characters be together in the end.

She didn’t. She tried but it can’t work. This is a bridge too high to cross I think.

That being said, I am curious about the twists promised in the finale….

This is one book you don't want to put down.

Viewers be warn.

This book ends on a cliffy. Which is more, more and I do mean MORE then upsetting!

I waited such a long, long time to finally read their book. Just for it to be a 2 parter, and for it to leave me with more questions then answers!

But I'm more then curious about a lot of things so it's a pain I'll have to go through.

Other than that let's talk about this book. There is so much stuff that happens in this book that is blantly unforgivable. For one I don't know how I feel about Hades or his younger sister. And I'm not trying to mention it, but dammit I gotta.

The most unforgettable shit that I read is the fact they treat her like an animal. It's like a wtf moment. The whole eating like a dog in a cage. That shit really took me out. Had me at work turn my head trying to hide my facial expressions. I was beyond upset about what she is put through. Especially when they get a hint of how much she cared for their mother. It's just a WTF moment!!

I honestly don't know how she could forgive them or even try to help his little sister.

Don't get me wrong this book is more then worth the read. To the point where I was ducking and dodging people at work just to read it. Finish this baby before I even realize it and still ended up shouting "wtf you got to be kidding me! A fucking cliffy!!" Much to the amusement of my coworkers.

Listen books like these don't come by a lot so when you come across one you stop everything to read it. Today was most deff one of those days where you should've call in sick, to get ur read on.

I really enjoy this book, even with the things that had you shaking your head at. There is so many times in the book where I'm mumbling Hades better take out her father.

Overall I really really like this book, and cannot wait ot get my hands on the 2nd part. Which I plan on taking the day off, no interrupting allowed!

The blurb made this book seem right up my alley, but it quickly became apparent that it was along the lines of plots that I have never been able to get into. Instead of just a debt-owed/captive type story, it was that of a slave who was humiliated. This continued for most of the book, then all of a sudden, they were falling into bed and in love. I never felt their connection above that of maybe lust. We then jump to an epilogue, and they're married, which was fine, but there was a whole new storyline going on, one which we have no idea how we got to. It seemed like nothing more than a set up for book 2. A book 2 that I didn't know existed, as there is no mention of this being part of a duet or continuous series in the blurb. There were also chapters throughout by people who we have no idea who they are or how the connect to Stephanie or Hades. After hearing the epilogue, I assume they will come into play in the next book, but I honestly have no interest in finding out how they relate to this story. The audiobook was well done, with both narrators doing a good job, especially with the accents.

I received this book as an ARC and it blew me away!

Hades-wow! Never have I hated a man as much as him at first-how do you hold a grudge and take it out for so long on the wrong person? How do you torture someone that you feel something for like this? How do you break someone down and want them to want you but even still- you can feel the passion and emotion between the 2 characters. I am dying to know how this story ends- OMG! I almost cried when I got to the end because I needed the second part of their love story now and immediately.

As a psychological thriller this would be a 4. It’s a page turner and completely messed up beyond all recognition. As a romance - dark or otherwise, it’s a no from me - a 1. Maybe I’m getting old, but I can’t sign off on any HEA that starts with someone pretending to shoot someone in the head on the daily to mess with their head and essentially break their mind.
Then there’s the series of humiliations. Look, I love a kidnap fantasy (perhaps more than I should) but the violence and the hatred rendered the so-called love at the end fairly redundant.
Having said all that - I will be reading the next instalment just to fill in all the weird blanks and additional characters that appeared randomly in the book. So I’m conflicted, clearly!

I was really caught off guard with this book, that’s why it took me so long to get to my review. I just couldn’t form it into words when I first read it. I thought Hades treatment of Stephanie was abysmal. I’m talking he tortured her for no other reason then her father owed him a blood debt, come on man. And to tattoo her against her will that was unforgivable for me. I just can’t accept his justification for his abhorrent treatment of Stephanie even knowing his backstory. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that TT can redeem Hades and my eyes with the conclusion of the duet.

What Happened!

Out of all the books this was the one I was looking forward to. The characters that we were introduced in the first book did not add up! And what was up with the Benjamin Character that had nothing to do with the story and Persy's story took a major nose dive highly disappointed 😏

I just finished Hades, book five in the Ruthless MC series and part of the 50 Loving States - Louisiana. This is part one of a duet and, boy, did it leave me wanting more!

When rich, beautiful Stephanie Perrault turns twenty-one, she celebrates at her annual birthday gala, family and boyfriend Lukas at her side. After midnight, her father calls her into his office for a discussion, and a few hours later, she wakes up with no idea where she is or who she’s with. She also has a large tattoo on her back stating, “Property of Hades.” It quickly becomes apparent that she’s with a man she’d seen once five years ago, the don of her housekeeper. Then she’d called him Swamp Boy; now his name is Hades, and he’s president of an MC. Stephanie has been given to Hades to pay off a blood debt. Hades plans to kill Stephanie that first night, but decides to let her live. Their relationship develops over time, and feelings develop in both of them. When the book ends, there are lots of questions still to be answered because we discover that Stephanie has amnesia from a car accident.

This book is so different than anything I’ve read. The writing style is strong with lots of flavor. The characters are written well with lots of development and background. The plot is a good one, and the time jump in the epilogue gives up bits of information while also evoking lots of questions in readers. I want more of Tess and Brady’s story (they have their own book, but I want more here). I can’t wait to find out more about Stephanie’s father and sister and mystery character Amira!

Hades can be read as a standalone, but it is part of an interconnected story. I really liked it! Please read it, and be sure to let me know what you think! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I’m screaming! What the heck did I just read? Everything was rocking along with Hades and Persy’s backstory, filling in the blanks left from the previous stories in this terrific series and then the epilogue hit. My mind exploded! I have more questions now than I did at the start. I love this crazy series with brutal brothers, their captive ole ladies, the fierce brotherhood, and the outrageous antics. Hades has always been the hot enigma with tons of charm and a fierce hold on the mysterious Persy. With all his hotness I just knew he was a bad man. He treated Persy like a slave and I didn’t like that at all. I gathered she got loose at some point, especially with a sighting reported by Vengeance in the last story, but we didn’t get the details of her escape in this story. Oh no, what we got was a WTF epilogue that was a break in reality. I can’t wait for the next part of this crazy story to fill in the blanks. This author has a talented for creating reprehensible antiheroes with just enough hotness that you want to forgive their bad behavior. They do have their moments of swoon-worthy sexiness. Then there is the group of ole ladies with strength enough to match these hardened criminals and win their love. I will say that I melted with the reveal of the inside story about Hades, his past and his feelings for Persy. This is one heck of the a series with wild, wicked brothers that rule their domains and women with a ruthless dominance and cold viciousness. Nobody challenges what’s theirs and lives. The romance is a tenuous balance between harsh authority and sexy dominance with the women being all loved up. This is an absolutely fabulous addition to this crazy series. Loved it!

The plot thickens

I hate cliffhangers! It's a good thing I already have the next book. Hades thought he was acting on a blood revenge, but his captive was an innocent to what happened to his mother. Stephanie was living her life as a spoiled rich girl. She was trying to be a good big sister to Daphne after their mother passed. Her life was turned upside down when she realized her father was a selfish lowlife coward who sold his daughter as a blood debt. For years, Stephanie/ Persephone struggled just to survive her ordeal of being Hades' pet.

Hades/ Galen struggled with his revenge and his love for Percy. He'd wanted her since the first time he saw her at the pool of her family's mansion. It was the same for her. Now the plot thickens. What happened to Stephanie/ Percy? Galen/ Hades appears to have invested well but there are so many unanswered questions. Who is Daphne's father? What happened to AAntoine Perreault? Why was Brady and Countess even in this book, how do they connect? There are too many unanswered questions that only the next book can answer.

The story was well-plotted and written. It was a great storyline based in the bayous of Louisiana which is something that is rarely done. Theodora researched the Cajun/ Creole culture and got it right. Being a Bayou girl born and raised in South Louisiana, I can appreciate the authentic capture of the culture. Many actors/ authors try but miss the mark. Ms Taylor got it right.

NOTE: This book was read and listened to by syncing with Audible.com. The narrators were excellent and made the story come to like. I was impressed with Patrick Zeller's Cajun narration. Few people can get the accent right and he did.
