Wow, when characters even start to speak flowery, I’m out.
I had a hard time with the flowery language in this. And the dialogue was so unrealistic. When that’s the case I can’t get on board with the insta-love. I cringed every time they spoke to each other. Even during sex scenes.. OMG did that feel uncomfortable.

I reckon I deserve a medal for finishing this!! Quite franckly my eye sockets hurt....
First it begins with Insta-attraction. Okay, I can live with that. But to be in love by a simple touch that creeps up your elbow.?? No, I don't get that at all. Then I'm trying to accept their insta connection, what's with this calling each other baby and sweetheart every freaking time.??? It realllly put me off.
Then we have the issue of gay men and their right to adopt kids. I'm all for that of course. There is more than enough kids in de world that need love and getting care of. But East's child lived with his mother. How in the hell were these men going to find the time and afford to raise another broken infant!! Too much..
I don't know if my taste in books have changed so much but I didn't enjoy this book at all. I'm so disappointed. Especially when I see all those 5 star review, it is most possibly me and not the book.

This is just uh...just not for me. There is no reason other than insta-lust for Kes and East to bring Denver into their life. I am 100% on board for a menage between consenting adults but polyamorous relationships need to be based on more than spit roasting. In this book all three go immediately from Insta-lust to insta-love and into a relationship that their families just go along with (which is great, but unlikely)
What is really throwing me off is the dialog. Besides the insane over use of the term "baby"...EVERYONE has a weird British accent even though they are in the mid west somewhere. Dodgy, fuck wit, a right mess, spilt, etc... It's completely tripping me up.

3.5 stars. Denver returns to his parents' property after his partner cheated on him and left.
Soon he gets involved with Kes and East who are a couple. Kes and East want Denver and not just for one night. Denver is afraid to be the third wheel.
I loved this story, three men finding their forever. It’s a long ride, halfway everything was going pretty well, and then there were things happening, for me unnecessary. I would have been content with how it was fifty percent. Still, it was all lovely to watch.
The connection between the three of them felt real, ditto the struggle from Denver. At some point, his actions got a bit repetitive.
There is a lot of sexual activity, attractive, scorching, and love gets more and more involved.
It’s a largely written story, for me a bit too large, entertaining, emotional, and with intense sexy scenes.

Holy shit, this is painfully awful to read. I really hate 1st person- present tense, and this is one of the reasons why.
I take. I glance. I observe. I walk. I see. I...want to throw my kindle because every single freaking paragraph is so damn awkward and clunky I can't deal with it. Don't even get me started on the dialogue or the MC inner thoughts that sound so unnatural it's almost robotic. No one talks like that.
I really don't get where all these 5 star reviews are coming from. If I kept reading I'd give myself an aneurism. I tried, but I'm out.

Völlig unvorbereitet wird der Chirurg Denver von seinem langjährigen Partner verlassen. In seiner gewohnten Umgebung bleiben kann er nicht. Also löst er alles auf, kündigt und nimmt sich eine Auszeit. Sein Weg führt ihn zurück in seine Heimat, wo ihn die Familie bereits mit offenen Armen und natürlich auch besorgt aufnimmt. Für eine Weile zieht sich Denver in eine der Hütten seiner Familie zurück, lässt nur seine Familie und seinen Hund an sich heran und leckt seine Wunden.
Coopers Ridge ist ein verschlafenes Nest, das auch nicht unbedingt für seine Weltoffenheit bekannt ist. Und doch haben es Kester und East geschafft sich eine Existenz aufzubauen und auch offen schwul leben zu können. Denver ist für sie kein Unbekannter. East hatte immer eine Schwäche für den Älteren und Kester und Denver tauschten sogar in ihrer Jugend einen Kuss. Doch dann haben sich ihre Wege eben getrennt.
Für Denver ist es durchaus ein kleiner Schock als er erkennt, wie sehr sich seine alte Heimat verändert hat. Kester und East werden zu Freunden und das Knistern zwischen ihnen dreien ist nicht zu übersehen. Doch Denver hat sich doch eben erst die Finger verbrannt und will nicht schon wieder verletzt werden.
Denver’s Calling ist eine nette und sehr erotische Unterhaltung. Das ist Stärke und Schwäche von JJ Harper. Ihre Helden sind einfach extrem potent und JJ lässt ihre Leser auch an jeder sexueller Interaktion teilhaben. Das ist manchmal schon zuviel.
Die Geschichte selbst wird sehr flüssig und angenehm erzählt. Gegen Ende hin gibt es wieder einmal etwas zuviel Drama. Das hätte nicht sein müssen. Dafür sind die drei unterschiedlichen Männer sehr gut beschrieben und ihr Charakter wird gut herausgearbeitet. Man lernt sie schnell kennen und versteht auch rasch ihre Beweggründe und Zweifel.
Insgesamt hat mir der erste Teil aber sehr gut gefallen. Leider konnte ich (noch) nicht in Erfahrung bringen, ob die ganze Reihe von diesem Gespann handeln wird, oder ob es in den nächsten Teilen auch neue Protagonisten geben wird. Potential wäre auf jeden Fall da.

If you are going to write a trio story and make it about porn level steamy sex, then focus on that and do it really well. If you are going to write a story about a trio romance, then make that story work, make it about the relationship and the emotions and make it believable. If you want to do both, then you better work really damn hard to make both aspects flow well together without either overshadowing the other.
This book seemed to want to do both, but didn't pull either one off effectively. There were no real grounds other than lust for the basis of the relationship between the three men. Just "You're hot, let's have sex, now I love you." There was so much teen angsty type of drama and overreactions from all three characters, I never felt they were well adjusted, successful adults that had the maturity to pull of the genuine difficulties involved with a poly relationship. Just because a character says "I love you" doesn't make the reader believe it.
The steam level fell utterly flat. Again, you want to do high level sexy, then you need to do it. Don't toss in some mediocre, cookie cutter stuff that feels contrived, make the characters talk a little dirty and then move on like it is nothing. I have no problem with down and dirty steamy, honestly love it when it is done well, but this just had me skipping those parts because it felt like the author had an obligation to put them in and managed to work in some buzzword sexual terms to make it sound better than it was.
The complete and utter acceptance of them and their lifestyle from everyone except a single little bit part is just an easy out for an author to not have to deal with realism in any way. Toss in the mess of the whole parenting/fostering thing that was so incredibly contradictory and unrealistic, it made my brain hurt and you end up with a book that is trying really hard to be something it's not. Oh and lets tie a giant ribbon of nope on it with the insanely confusing British terminology that got sprinkled in here and there in a book about a bunch of characters that were all born and raised in the heart of the American small town ranching world.

Horrible editing. Some words are actually made up. To further my frustration, I realized she is yet another British author writing about American characters living in the U.S. I don't understand that. England is a beautiful country, yet their speech is very different from the U.S. If you don't have a grasp of American speech patterns, phrasing, etc., don't try it. The same story can work in England and the author doesn't come off sounding like someone speaking English as a second language. Singular/plural agreement is frustratingly haphazard. The characters have no disernable voice; they all sound like women who CAN'T use contractions or curse. Men curse and say "I'd", "won't", "didn't, etc. Even gay men. Make them sound like real people, not robots.
Oh, the story. Nothing to get excited about. I had such a hard time with the bad writing and weakly-voiced characters that the storyline faded into the background. Didn't bother to finish.
I hate writing a bad review, but I believe the author can do better. All of this is fixable.

DNF @ Passed 50% (I didn’t pay attention to the number before I was passing this back to Amazon like a hot piece of coal!! I don’t feel like getting into why I didn’t like it (I think everyone else is doing a good job of doing that), and so we’re just going to have to continue on with the simple knowledge that this book (and in all likelihood, this author) just aren’t for me!!

I liked some aspects of this story like the super hot sex scenes, but mostly, it felt a little off.
The sex scenes were great but there were too many of them...can't believe I said that :D
Kes and East were already an established couple and they were very quick to want Denver. It was very insta-love on their part...and for them to be so sure it would work out.
Denver is constantly doubting himself and his relationship with East and Kes.
There was also a bit too much drama and the switching POVs for all three of them got confusing.

JJ Harper is now going to be an auto buy author....This is just perfect..I loved Kes, East and Denver....They were just perfect together......Kes and East are already a couple and when they both meet Denver the sparks just fly......I fell in love with Denver from the start and his broken heart just broke me too.....He needed a fresh start and boy did he get one....Throw in East's daughter and they have a family....I loved the secondary characters too and I can't wait for Carter's story....A truly great read and one I'll be re-reading x

New to me author. This is a mmm contemporary story set in the USA. I couldn’t get into the story. No connection with any of the main characters. East and Kes are already a couple and they bring Denver in as a third.

December 31, 2022A new series by one of my favourite authors Three words. BRING IT ON! In this opening book we get to meet the intriguing trio of Denver, Kes, and East. The interesting and difficult thing to do is bring a third person into an existing relationship and it’s one where they are married and obviously very happy in what they have and not looking for anything extra, but isn’t that when things hit you the most, when you least expect them?
Denver’s world had literally fallen apart, his long term relationship has ended and all he’s left with is his dog and hope in his heart that things will get better.
Returning home to lick his wounds, he never expects to find himself being attracted to one man, let alone two.
The dynamic between Kes and East is handled well, as they try to adapt to work out how to accept another into their world.
Yes, it would be easy to go for the cliqued and obvious, but the way it plays out says more about the three of them and the love and connection they feel for each other.
The sex scenes between the two and then three of them are well written and HOT, but so are the emotions which help to balance the dynamic.
I really cannot wait for more from Cooper’s Ridge and it’s men.

I absolutely loved the first 20% of this book, and the sex is super hot. For me though the back and forth between Denver and his men got to be too tedious, just over and over "how can these men love me", "ok let's make it work", "but, what if people judge us?", "Ok, let's make it work.". Too much, way too much. And it would've been beneficial to have an American beta or proofreader, it pulled me out of the story often all the British slang for a group of American men in America. I really wanted to like this book way more than I ended up liking it, which bums me out. But I am intrigued by the character set up for the next book, so we'll see.

Missed the mark
Okay so let me start with what I liked...
The back ground of these guys was solid. I liked their stories. I liked the premise of their relationship
Now moving on...
I love a good ménage story. To be good. It has to be written well, has to have more depth than sex, and has to be convincing...this was none of that. It could have been a great smutty ménage that had no story or it could have been a great one with a great storyline. I feel like the author tried to do both without finding a groove or good balance. The sex was over the top and the insta Love was as well. I wish there was more meat to these men because it had the makings of a great story

August 3, 2018Not rating; at 17% I gave up and skipped and skimmed parts of the rest. The writing style didn’t work for me. The dialogue does not flow naturally and there’s little to distinguish the 3 characters “voices”. Needs a good editor as well.

Wow wow and wow again!
It’s no secret now that J J Harper writes a great love story and has cemented her place as a great author in the MM world, but here we have an altogether brilliant romance that centres around a MMM relationship and it’s breathtakingly beautiful in its delivery.
Denver comes back home to lick his wounds after his long term relationship irretrievably breaks down, it is here that he bumps into Kes and East and is surprised that they are not only in a loving relationship but that it’s openly accepted within the very small community of his hometown.
He is confused at first not understanding the signals the two gorgeous guys are giving off but very soon and after a night out the guys have some intense and very hot Fun together 🔥
It is from here that we have the basis of a building relationship between the three men.
We see and feel their intense connection to each other, we see how the community reacts to their triad, they all undergo periods of both uncertainty and fear but despite it all they stay strong together.
We of course have misunderstandings... it is J J Harper after all!
We have outside interference, we have misconceptions and we have the real daily struggles but most of all we have love... so much love my heart bursts with it. We have some great secondary characters such as Cal & Ellie and the bar staff that we begin to get to know.
It is not easy and I’m determined not to spoil any of it but this book suckered me in completely and I was enthralled throughout... I felt it all... I smiled...I sighed...I cried and then towards the end I even fist pumped a little!
So add this amazing book to your TBR list today because it’s her bloody best book yet and her writing is flawless!!!

He is confused at first not understanding the signals the two gorgeous guys are giving off but very soon and after a night out the guys have some intense and very hot Fun together 🔥
It is from here that we have the basis of a building relationship between the three men.
We see and feel their intense connection to each other, we see how the community reacts to their triad, they all undergo periods of both uncertainty and fear but despite it all they stay strong together.
We of course have misunderstandings... it is J J Harper after all!
We have outside interference, we have misconceptions and we have the real daily struggles but most of all we have love... so much love my heart bursts with it. We have some great secondary characters such as Cal & Ellie and the bar staff that we begin to get to know.
It is not easy and I’m determined not to spoil any of it but this book suckered me in completely and I was enthralled throughout... I felt it all... I smiled...I sighed...I cried and then towards the end I even fist pumped a little!
So add this amazing book to your TBR list today because it’s her bloody best book yet and her writing is flawless!!!
I’m not sure how J J keeps getting better and better but she really does....I cannot wait for more lady ❤️

‘Amazingly hot’ and ‘brilliantly written’ is how I would describe this book. One of JJ’s finest.
Denver is a hot Dr who has just been through a horrible breakup. Entering the local bar with his brother, the last thing he needs is to be seeing Kes, the first boy he ever kissed in high school. Especially when he’s stood openly kissing his boyfriend.
Kes runs the local bar and is in a relationship with East, the local builder, who also happens to be doing the renovations at Denver’s parent’s ranch. The instant connection between all three men is electric, but with Denver just getting out of one bad relationship does he really need to start up another? And not with one but two men. Never has he been so confused.
I loved how this played out. The angst of if they’d give into their feelings had me hooked. And would a town, just accepting gay couple relationships, be open to a triad one?
This is a moving story with ups and downs, of everyday life and the complications of making it work for all involved. It is written to its full potential, with off the richter hot and amazing sex scenes that just “blow” your mind. There’s also heart breaking scenes that made me “swallow” on more than one occasion.
This is not the first book I’ve read of this author and it certainly won’t be the last. She is fast becoming one of my fav M/M authors and I can’t wait to read Carters story. Brilliant!!

3.5*s of sexy trio
This is the first book in a series, and I am going to be adding the next one to my reading list. This is definitely a sexy read, with three men heating up the bedroom, and almost anywhere else they may find themselves!
I liked the story line and the interwoven plots, although at times I found it to be a little disjointed. The ending though was super cute and may have resulted in a tear or two. I did have a bit of an issue with the changing voice - we get to learn about the thoughts of all three men, and at times, particularly early on, the scenes are repeated from a second viewpoint. This worked, although I was glad that it didn't run through the whole book. Partly this was because a number of issues were laboured already, and even further repetition would have caused me to reconsider continuing. But, as I mentioned the chemistry between these guys is hard to ignore. So I had to know whether they could iron out the issues and move forward together.
It is always good to read a new author and get a different slant on a romance, so I'm glad that I read Denver's Calling.

Denver's Calling, book 1 in the Cooper's Ridge series by JJ Harper. You can never go wrong by reading a book by JJ Harper! She knows exactly what she is doing! The characters are amazingly well developed, the interaction between them all, is incredible.

Denver Sinclair moves back home after over ten years away for school and work, needing a time out to clear his head.
East Brookman and Kester Dereham are in a loving and committed relationship with each other.
There are literally sparks between the three of them, when they meet again. But can the town be that open minded?
It's a beautiful story about three different men, that have to overcome different difficulty with themselves and each other. That with hard work, communication and love really can make anything work!

This is a romantically sad sexy emotional MMM book that is well written, it was so good I absolutely love this book.
When Denver is dumped by his boyfriend he goes home to a town he never thought he would be back in. When he settles back in he meets a few people from school and gets comfy in his life again. When he takes a job at Kes's bar he starts to come back to life what he didn't expect was to have the chemistry with Kes and East that's shoots sparks in him. When Denver can't keep he's hands off Kes and East anymore he struggles with his feels coming into an already committed relationship and struggles to express his feelings to them which cause a few hiccups.
Kes and East have a great relationship but when Denver comes back to town the chemistry hey feel from him is intense and they know that they want him in there relationship. Witt the ups and downs that come with the three of them in a relationship will they find there HEA together.
This book is absolutely fantastic it had me crying keep some tissues handy you will need them.

This is a review of the August 18, 2021 version.
There’s a lot happening in this book! I think the author was a little overly ambitious in all the different topics she tackled in crafting this story, but we still ended up with quite the romance.
Recently single after a horrible break-up, Denver flees to his parents’ lake property in his hometown to lick his wounds and re-evaluate his life and career. While recuperating in the small town, he meets Kes and East, an out couple who seems to want to add him as a permanent third.
Denver has to heal from his breakup, and his confidence is shattered. He needs to find a new job, overcome the worries of being in a poly relationship, and really just mature as a person. Much of the story is spent on Denver’s self-growth, healing, and self-acceptance. But in order to complete that journey, the author throws a lot at him. There’s a ton of misunderstandings, a bit of melodrama, and a few major events in a relatively short amount of time. But Kes and East are more stable and stay the course, supporting Denver as he yo-yo’s all over the place and finally decides on how he wants the rest of his life to play out.
Overall, a great read – just a little overly ambitious in the content.

First off I loved this book...I was a little nervous at forst but this author truly told this story with such class and grace.
I loved the characters Kes is the protector, the caretaker, East is the sexy one that fly off the handle quickly and Denver is the insecure one, he is the one who doubts himself and this trio relationship. It is a fabulous story that touches on all my emotions, I laughed, I had tears and my heart broke but in the end it was so worth it all.
The writing was good, the characters were top notch and I loved a few of the side characters too. This story is told in different POV so it really gave me the opportunity to get to know them all well. I look forward to more from this author.

When I’ve first heard about JJ Haper’s new book I was surprised and a little bit concerned that it was an M/M/M Romance, not really my kind of book. And not because a threesome makes me uncomfortable, but because in the past I’ve tried to read some books and I didn’t like them very much: no plot, only sex (preferably rough).
Denver’s Calling has pulled my heart into the story from the beginning.
Two men, East Brookman and Kester Dereham are already a thing. A very happy couple, they are a family, completed by the presence of Ellie, East’s daughter. Kes is running his bar and East has his own business in construction. Being a gay couple in a small town isn’t easy. They've had their fair amount of struggles to be accepted.
Happy and settled, life for them takes a sudden turn the day Denver Sinclair entered Kes’ bar.
Denver is a brilliant doctor, a surgeon, in a big city. Betrayed by his partner, the man he has loved for so many years, and by his friends and colleagues, he decides to take a break and return to his parent’s in the small Cooper’s Ridge. He’s looking for a peaceful place to mend his broken heart. The moment he entered Kes’ bar he doesn’t expect what will come next.
Kes and Denver instantly clicked, an attraction they can deny. Kes is determined to have all, East, the love of his life, and Denver. East is willing to try this new kind of relationship, but nothing is easy. Denver is afraid to jump in Kes and East’s relationship, feeling he will never be enough for them, the third, the less important, or finally have what they have. East has some reservation, not about Denver, but about Ellie. She’s so young and she has already gone through so much. Making all this work out will be a challenge. Will everyone be ready to fight for their love? Will they be brave enough to go through the storm, the misconception of a small town, and find their happy ending and raise a totally new family?
I loved each of the characters: the protective Kes, the impulsive East and the insecure Denver. Three men so different, but with something to give to each other. Even if the love at first sight between them, and a family so accepting, were not so much convincing to me, their relationship and the plot work really well. Not to mention the sex. OMG, two are hot, but three are hot as hell!
JJ Harper has been great to create a story that is credible, with ups and downs, touching some serious subjects with grace a sweetness. Denver and Phoebe story has made me cry.
I liked the alterning POV of the three men, and see the story and feel the emotions through their eyes.
I suggest the readers to enjoy the ride with Denver, Kes and East with an open mind and an open heart.
Everything is possible, but dreams come true only with hard work, modesty and love. That’s what I’ve learned from these three amazing men.

I loved these guys! I think East is my favorite, but Kes is so sweet. And Denver, I want to listen to him play! Ok, ok, they are all my favorites! I loved this story, it had so much going on that just reflects what the reality of that type of relationship would entailed. And I cried! That poor baby! I enjoyed every minute with this book, my only complaint is that I wanted more! Thanks for my arc copy JJ! Can't wait to read about Carter!
