When Lasser is called out to the fatal hit and run he can feel the anger twisting inside at the senseless killing of the unknown woman. But this is only the start and the deeper the team delve into the incident the more confusing the whole thing becomes.Rea Lomax had been the one to discover the body and she had done the right thing and called for help though now she has vanished. As far as Lasser is concerned it would not be the first time that someone involved in a fatal hit and run had panicked and then gone into hiding.Yet this feels different, this feels wrong and what he cannot fathom is what the victim had been doing running out onto the lane at gone midnight, a lane that snakes over miles of open fields, no houses close by, no pedestrians milling about. As things began to take shape the team come to realise that the victim wasn't simply running, she was being chased and now they are left with the mystery of who she was fleeing from and what has happened to Rea Lomax the woman who called for assistance, the woman who has vanished as if she had never even existed at all? With time running out they must unravel the mystery and delve back through a dark history to hunt those responsible before it is too late for the missing Rea Lomax.
Rob Roughley lives in the North West of England (God's coal bunker, the land of the wedding cake made by placing three meat pies on top of one another and whippets on lengths of string) He is the author of eight crime/thriller novels featuring DS Lasser. The novels are set between the run down streets of a northern town and the beautiful yet desolate west Pennine moors. If you love your crime fiction crammed with square jawed heroes driving flash cars and glorious women who shimmer with inner light, then the DS Lasser novels are not for you. However, if you prefer your characters to be flawed, with a sprinkling of dandruff and old acne scars, the plots to be laced with dark humour, then give them a try. 1 The Needle House 2 The Way that it Falls 3 Tethered to the Dead. 4 Twisted Coming soon: 5 More Equal than Others 6 Vanished Beneath 7 Riven 8 Bad Self
Would you get in a car with a drunk? Rea Lomax's boyfriend insisted he'd only drunk shandy's on their night out. On their way home along a lonely country road her nightmare is only just about to begin - but the nightmare isn't just hers!
This story doesn't take place in the seedier parts of Wigan but in the beautiful outlying countryside of the landed gentry, acres of peaceful pastures, small farms and a hidden country pile no one knew was there. Not where you expect to find the horrors and terror about to unfold!
Yet again Robin teases the reader's imagination as he bumps up the tension on the pages to an explosive finale. All our favourite characters are present and are busting a gut to get to the bottom of this incredibly complex case and hopefully find missing Rea alive. There's the not so welcome like Brewster the sewer rat, popping up where he isn't wanted! Yet again I'm astonished at the originality of this story Robin you have an unparalleled imagination. Absolutely devoured every page with relish! Highly recommended, if you haven't indulged your love of crime reading, into this series you really have no idea what thrills you're missing!
I don't know where you get your ideas from Mr. Roughley but, yet again, you have written a brilliant book. I'm always so excited when a new story featuring Lasser arrives on my Kindle and I read this book in one sitting. I like how the chapters are quite short as that draws me into thinking 'I'll just read one more'. Now I'm bereft as I've finished it. Please, don't keep us waiting too long for the next one. Bravo Robin.
We get into the thick of this one when a drunk driver is told to stop so his girlfriend can get out of the car he leaves her by the side of the road and speeds of in a drunken rage , not long after in a dark country lane he knocks down and kills a lone woman who'd be running in the dark and he leaves he for dead without bothering to check how she is . So that's it an open and shut case so you'd think but that's just the start . We have all sorts even the landed gentry evolved. I won't spoil it by saying anything else about the storyline I'll just say I really enjoyed the read lasser and Co at there best. If you want to know more read the book you won't be sorry
Another fabulous read from Robin Roughley in the Lasser series.
These books really do keeping you reading until the very end with Lasser, Bannister & the team trying to track down a missing woman while simultaneously trying to identify a hit and run victim. Great story but not long enough, could read Lasser all night!!!
I was so pleased to see this book & surprised,I love this series of books & never want them to stop writing them.Robin Roughly is a fantastic storyteller & I love all his books especially the DSLasser series. If you haven't read any them definitely start from the beginning it's a great series of books⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Another great Lasser book, read all to quickly, thoroughly enjoyed it.. i felt the frustration of Bannister and Lasser, then nervous anticipation.. Promised I myself I'd take my time reading this one but once again I couldn't, I just kept turning the pages.... Here's to the next one .
Yet another fantastic Lasser story. Really different type of crime this time, Robin's story writing is just excellent. If you love crime fiction this series of books is a must read. The characters are really brought to life through the writing and the story lines always keep you gripped
Once again a well written and presented story. All the characters are well rounded and part of the package now. The story was very interesting and kept me coming back ( naps broke it up ). Storylines are great because they stick to a format that has kept me coming back for years. Thanks to the author.
Great,I like this one ! it’s got everything, including the kitchen sink !! plenty of pace, lots of sufficiently horrid people, the usual smear of social justice, and we haven’t seen the last of DC Black so there is someone to loathe.
Well robin another lesser read, these books are not long enough. Riveting read from start to finish, what can I say. When's the next one out. Well done again, hope my man Plymouth is going to make another appearance 10/10
Well the 27th book in the series and as good if not better than all the ones that went before.Brilliant storyline as always and Lasser and Ci can not be bested. All I want now is number 28.
I love the Lasser series, the books just keep getting better and better. I don’t have anything bad to say about this book. I would recommend this to anyone and everyone. If ur a fan of the Lasser series, you will love this. I hope there is another one soon
My Kindle broke, restarted reading this book on my new one. Missed reading, so I really loved reading this book. Might be a bit biased! Great story. All the usual characters on form. A page turner at the end with a mini twist.
As normal the book is absolutely brilliant. Fast paced, exiting . The story line is really Good . All the books in the series are amazing. This is one amazing author.
The Lasser books just keep getting better!! The detectives are excellent and are a strong team. DS Lasser runs on instinct. This was a complicated case and it was great watching the team work. I highly recommend this book!
