I think MacGregor got bored writing so many of these. Makes sense, considering how formulaic they are. This most recent trio of Screech Owls books (20, 21, 22) seem to be MacGregor trying to switch things up a bit just to get some variety. Aged them up in 20, this silly terrorist gimmick in 21, and 22 just had a chapter from each kid in first person perspective. I’d continue with the series even without these things MacGregor’s trying out, but I totally get it. No shame in trying something new after over a decade into a series.

These are great chapter books for kids who like Hockey!! What fun books with mysteries that are appropriate for kids 9 and up!

Each book has a an exciting hockey game and a mystery to solve. The characters in the books are very relateable for kids of this age and engaging. I love that their are both boys and girls on the team and they all contribute!

The stories also contain lessons on teamwork, sportsmanship and friendship! Terrific lessons for all kids!

There are a few times when I thought the content was a bit off for the age, but then when you compare it to modern video games, movies and tv shows, it was mild. Kids today are ages ahead of their past counterparts and these books reflect that.

Hockey fans will find a lot to love here. The play-by-play is really fun to read even for non-sporties like myself.

Did not think the diary ramblings of the would-be terrorist were an appropriate addition for a young reader. I realize it's a reality in the world, but feel such "information" would be better discussed outside this story. When reading this to my grandson at night, I chose not to read him those sections and just briefly discussed with him at the end of the book about what the would-be terrorist's machinations were.
