Heir to the Crown #10

Triumph of the Crown

Rate this book
Weldwyn has fallen, and with it, any hope of peace.

The army of Merceria, bruised and beaten, returns only to learn of the invasion of its closest ally, Weldwyn.

With the Palace destroyed by dragons, and the royal family presumed dead, Summersgate surrenders without a fight, leaving those within fearing for their very lives. Powerless to withstand the coming darkness, some choose to side with their captors, putting the success of Weldwyn's liberation in jeopardy.

Even as the Mercerian army regroups, opposition at home spreads, creating an explosive situation where enemy soldiers are not the only danger they must now confront.

Outnumbered and overwhelmed, all their cunning and experience may not be enough to vanquish the evil that threatens to engulf the land.

Paul J Bennett (b. 1961) emigrated from England to Canada in 1967. His father served in the British Royal Navy, and his mother worked for the BBC in London. As a young man, Paul followed in his father’s footsteps, joining the Canadian Armed Forces in 1983. He is married to Carol Bennett and has three daughters who are all creative in their own right.

Paul’s interest in writing started in his teen years when he discovered the roleplaying game, Dungeons & Dragons (D & D). What attracted him to this new hobby was the creativity it required; the need to create realms, worlds and adventures that pulled the gamers into his stories.

In his 30’s, Paul started to dabble in designing his own roleplaying system, using the Peninsular War in Portugal as his backdrop. His regular gaming group were willing victims, er, participants in helping to playtest this new system. A few years later, he added additional settings to his game, including Science Fiction, Post-Apocalyptic, World War II, and the all-important Fantasy Realm where his stories take place.

The beginnings of his first book ‘Servant to the Crown’ originated over five years ago when he began a new fantasy campaign. For the world that the Kingdom of Merceria is in, he ran his adventures like a TV show, with seasons that each had twelve episodes, and an overarching plot. When the campaign ended, he knew all the characters, what they had to accomplish, what needed to happen to move the plot along, and it was this that inspired to sit down to write his first novel.

Paul now has four series based in his fantasy world of Eiddenwerthe and is looking forward to sharing many more books with his readers over the coming years.

Anna, her team of trusty advisors and her allies will face their hardest battle yet............... destroying the Dark Elfin Queen. There are a few twists to the story this time - love seems to be in the air for a certain Marshal and a Dwarf Master Smith; Anna is saved by the one person you would be forgiven to think really wanted her dead; and a beloved character pays the ultimate price. Have the tissues ready, for if Anna's 'family' and allies have become yours, you may very well need them.

The war is over in Norland and to prevent the Earls of Norland from going into civil war, it looks like Bronwyn will end up having to be named Queen. Lord Richard Fitzwilliam remains behind in Norland to help them set up a government. Queen Anna who has discovered she was pregnant returns to the capital of Merceria. Mr. Bennett has written another excellent book fighting another war hopefully the next book will be full of peace. The book is well-written and has several surprises throughout the book. I highly recommend that you read this book because I enjoyed it thoroughly...

Treachery! Intrigue! Betrayal! Spies! And an all-encompassing war as the allied forces of Merceria go forth to battle the dark forces of Kythelia and her horde in an attempt to win back Weldwyn. Dragons, magic, family and the highs and lows of conflict bring this story to a resounding crescendo in a truly inspired tale from Bennett. What a tremendous series so far with plenty more to come!

Excellent continuation of the series weaving old old and knew characters together. Merceria is back in Weldwyn fighting off the the clans and a surprise return of familiar characters from previous books. The story shows that truth will make enemies friends and through their combined strength obstacles are overcome. The method of battle will be a sur.

It takes enormous talent to keep a series addictively imaginative ten books in, but that’s precisely what Paul J. Bennett has done with Triumph of the Crown, Book 10 of his Heir to the Crown series. This wild ride of a book, and series, is truly epic fantasy at its best - and easy to highly recommend.

The army of Merceria returns from Norland after a fierce battle to find that Weldwyn, their closest ally, has fallen. Challenges come from within and without as the army of Merceria attempts to regain control of Merceria. Lots of surprises await them, but they have some tricks up their sleeves as well.

Triumph of the Crown is a triumph for Paul J. Bennett. How can you go wrong with a supporting cast of orcs, and dwarves, and elves, and dragons, not to mention magic, and mastiffs. He is a master of imagery connecting you to the story in a visceral manner. I look forward to reading the next book in this series... "Guardian of the Crown."

Wow. The intensity just keeps getting ramped up. Don’t want to give any spoilers but if you thought King Leofric’s defeat was going to stop a certain young queen or her not so young Marshal… well you maay be right…better buckle up though cause you are in for a ride, quite a roller coaster in this one for sure, with some shocking tidbits from opposite ends of the emotional spectrum.

Anna, the Queen is well advanced in her pregnancy, and her consort is fighting to regain his crown in his own realm. the battle is all but won.
The author spins a gripping tale of Battles, betrayals, spies, love as well as mystical and day-to-day animal prowesses that keep the reader virtually glued to the pages as the action and characters progress into this well-written plot. Twists and turns will have the reader wondering what will happen next, to whom and where.
The only negative point that I can find is that the book drags on at places prompting me to skip pages that although relevant to the characters were not interesting to me action-wise. 4 Stars because of certain lengths throughout the book.
