Dragons have been extinct for centuries...can one young man bring them back?
Raphael was born with the mark of the dragon. His foster father taught him a mysterious and ancient magic unlike anything seen since the last dragon left the world.
Now, at the age of 18, he is accepted into a guild of mages with the promise of learning more about his unique magic.
Raphael's strange powers could very well lead to the return of the dragons. The road will not be easy, but Raphael will find friends along the way, each with their own paths of progression and magical fates.
This coming-of-age fantasy series contains cultivation elements and incremental progression through spells, abilities, and equipment.
Cartoonish characters, full of inconsistancies, at one point someone tries to kill the MC, even declares that he will torture and kill him and the woman he's trying to protect, half a day later they are friends because someone else made him say he's sorry. The MC is supposed to be 18 years old, and have heightened intelligence, but he acts like a clueless 8 yeay old, is even chased by a teacher and threatened with homework even though he quit school and at the same time got top marks in his exams because he's so smart. Frankly cliché anime like characters are forced half-hardy into a story that makes litte sense.
I only made it to 76% before the storyline and action just became too ridiculous and unreasonable to continue. Perhaps with a good editor and some rewriting? Character development is minimal, worldview is intermittently constructed and this society is poorly defined. The premise for the book has appeal but in this current construction all of that is squandered.
I quit before the end, mostly frustrated and disappointed.
Well, it's clearly for young people(which i am) but it still felt pretty immature at times, like it was copying too much from children's cartoons. But, overall, it was enjoyable and well written.
A new series that seems to set up for the return of dragons By the MC a dragon magus.Of course nobody seems to know what a dragon magus is or why the dragons went crazy before and had to be killed much less how to bring them back. This a fun story. The hero Is A dragon majors and his powers increase through a form of cultivation Among other things. He is with a ragtag group that also uses the new , non true, magic that is anathema to him and his teacher. Hopefully he will find a way to fix this as the series progress. The characters are all unique and A bit eccentric. The humor is very Manga(ish) though not to bad. I found it mildly annoying and childish at times but didnt ruin the story for me. Overall at fun reading a good start to the series I look forward to the next book.
This is very much a pre teen audience book. The characters and MC's super naivety go well. The author tries paint some grandiose guild or city but its just way to fast. This MC is totally freaking clueless of just life itself, we are not even talking about interacting with people, the history of the world and his own background. BUT the author decides to give the readers 5+ hours of him battling for some random guild he just met and members that tried to kill him. Totally moronic, how about you mr guild go fly a kite in a lightning storm while I try to live my life.
A brilliant and intense page turner of a book. Once I started I didn't want to stop. The characters are interesting and their development of skills and interpersonal relationships was well done.
A lot of the world building and lore is given in snippets and partial revelations that keep you hooked and guessing, wanting to know more.
What can I say? I frikkin love this author and absolutely everything he writes. Action! Drama! Comedy! Romance! Frikkin Dragons! This book has it all! Is book 2 out yet? Please say it is so, because I just finished and I NEED book 2! Anybody reading this do yourself a favor read this book. And when you’re done eagerly awaiting book 2, because you will be. Go ahead and pick anything else, anything at all this author has written. You will thank me.
I love me some dragons. And magic. And being spoon fed. But this book isn’t a spoon feeder - it has so much more to offer and with greater depth. Definitely one to follow.
Please write more books in this series. It is the best story I have read in many years . It is a work filled with wonder , amazing characters and fast paced intriguing characters .
The first 50 percent was a decent book but the rest was not!! The characters where not interesting and to sappy to like ,not interesting enough to get past 69 percent of the book!!
I so loved this story! Rafael waa a very exciting character and Koisi raising him knowing what he would become one day wow! All the characters were amazing they came together beafully! I would recommend this
Finally, a magical hero who can…. No more hundreds of pages of I can’t, I can’t,I can’t and two pages of I did. Raphael finds within himself the courage, strength, ingenuity and magical power to do.
I’ve been into the authors mens fantasy books under the name Dante King for a few years now and really like his work. The DB King books are just as good and I’m definitely looking forward to reading more!!!
Gotta say that I really enjoyed this first book and can not wait to get started on the second book in the series. The author did a fantastic job on the story and the characters. If you're looking for a fun series I think these books will do it for you.
Read 20% of the book. Good setup but character development is all over the place. One minute they are fighting to the death and the next day they are friends, as though the fight never happened.
This is one of the best fantasy books I’ve read in a while. Totally engrossing. The characters are colorful and the story keeps gripped, so you can’t put it down. It totally leaves you wanting more!,,
Definitely worth a read! The story was amazing, and the magic elements were fantastic! I have kindle unlimited, but this is definitely worthy of a purchase!
I just love your books DB King! They bring adventure and joy and sadness but through it all it brings in a beautiful story of life and learning and friendships.
