I was born in a suburb of St. Louis, Missouri named Bridgeton. During my time in Missouri, I explored the Ozarks, swam in the Mississippi River, played kickball and endless games of hide and seek with the neighborhood kids. Spending summers in Kentucky with my Grandmother, Ruth, are the fondest childhood memories for me.

At the age of thirteen, my family moved to Wisconsin to learn to farm. Yes, learn to farm! That was interesting. Taking city kids and throwing them on a farm with twenty-eight cows purchased from the Humane Society because they had been abused, was interesting. I learned to milk cows, the ins and outs of a breeding schedule, feeding schedule and the never ending haying in the summer and trying to stay warm in the winter. Our first winter in Wisconsin, we had thirty-six inches of snow in one storm and were snowed in our house for three days! Needless to say, I wasn’t loving Wisconsin.

I am now married with four children and three grandchildren. I have learned to love Wisconsin, though I still hate snow. Wisconsin and the United States are beautiful and my husband and I travel around by motorcycle seeing new sites and meeting new people. It never ceases to amaze me how many people are interested in where we are going and what we have seen along the way. At every gas station, restaurant and hotel, we have people come up to us and ask us about what we are doing and offering advice on which roads in the area are better than others and great rides others have been on if we are interested.

I come from a family of veterans. My grandfather, father, brother and two of my sons and one daughter-in-law are all veterans. Needless to say, I am proud. Proud to be an American and proud of the service my amazing family has given.

Superbad female RAPTOR Agent!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: 💙💚❤️💜
Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📘📙
World building: 🌏🌍🌏🌎
Character development: 🤓😉☺️😍
Narration: 🎙🎙🎙🎙🎙
Narration Type: Dual Narration

The heroine: Charlesia (a.k.a. Charly) - She works for RAPTOR, a civilian organization that goes after people who hurt children. Charlie is former military and lost her arm in combat, though she can do everything she did before and some things even better. She is so stunning that most people don’t even notice she is missing an arm because they are too busy looking at her face and body.

The Hero: Sam - he is a detective for the police department. He met Charly in the last book. He is like 6’9” tall, blond and built like a mountain. He is a good match for Charly who was former military and now is in a dangerous business. Charly was attracted to Sam from the start and he to her.

The Story: Charly is working a kidnapping case when she hears some noise from the house she is surveilling, then a gunshot. She finds a little boy chained up in the living room and a dead man next to him. Sam is the first detective on the scene. It turned out the little boy was actually a little girl named Olive that Charly had rescued before, only for her mother to sell her again.

I don’t know if I missed it in one of the previous books or what, but I wanted to find out more about RAPTOR. The last book did say that a bunch of the people that work there were unhappy with their previous jobs and all quit on the same day when they started RAPTOR. They also seem to always be helping or rescuing children, but I didn’t catch why the name RAPTOR in all caps, is it an acronym? If so what does it mean and why is every employee disabled in some way. Diego had severe PTSD, Van was blind in one eye and now Charly is missing one arm. The book does say that they are all disabled, but doesn’t mention why.

This audiobook was told in dual points of view via dual narration. It was narrated by Rose Dioro and Troy Duran, two of my favorite narrators. Troy Duran has a deep, sexy voice which I really enjoy, and Rose has a light feminine voice and is great at showing her emotions through her voice. Both are always great, and they had been doing a terrific job on this series so far. The story and the romance are interesting and I liked both characters.

The Softer Side

PJ Fiala RAPTOR Bk 03 Craving Charlesia

I've enjoyed the journey that led from Big 3 Security to GHOST to RAPTOR*, each series getting better than the last. Each book getting better, even when more gripping and devastating. This book keeps with that progression and definitely deserves all the stars. ❤️🌟❤️

Charly, known for being a badass, shows her softer side very early on as she walks into a self-defense situation. 💔🔫 My heart broke right along with hers. 😢

I really loved seeing her tender heart as she tries to do what's best for Olive and search for Haylie. I also love how Sam is there for her every step of the way.

"It wasn't soft last night."
-- Charlesia "Charly" Sampson

She and Sam really are amazing together! In addition to the sparks they generate, they get each other, stand up for what they believe in, and are all around supportive of each other and those around them.

Another thing that I love throughout this series, and undoubtedly in this book, is how every member of RAPTOR has a disability of varying kinds. Some, like Charly's, are physical and obvious to the naked eye, and some are more internal. No matter the source, they are empowered to find a productive path forward, helping children and just maybe finding love along the way.

I have to say, I really love the epilogue! It is absolutely perfect for them. 😍 ❤️

I received an author's copy of the audio book. The narrators Rose Dioro and Troy Duran. I've listened to at least a dozen books with them narrating, and I continue to enjoy these two.

Story: 5 stars
Narration: 4 stars
Listening Speed: 1.5x

*You don't need to read all three series. While the books within each series are standalone, in all three cases, I'd recommend reading the books in order for that particular series.

Wow, this book was really a great read. It jumped right in to the suspense and action from the first page. I really enjoyed these two characters – Charlesia (Charly) and Sam. They made a great team and a fun couple. I loved how connected they were and how well they worked together. Their strengths complimented each other and they did not let their fears or weaknesses hold them back. There’s a lot of heavy subject matter dealt with in this book, but there is humor, light hearted moments and family and friends to help balance the intensity. This story will easily pull you in from the beginning and it’s loaded with action, suspense, danger, drama, friendship, romance, some twists and surprises, and steamy scenes. And don’t forget to click to download the epilogue at the of the story. It’s a fitting, perfect end for this couple. You definitely don’t want to miss out. I’m really looking forward to Promising Piper.

Intense, Phenomenal and Gripping Read!!

I am already a fan of this author - but this story in particular struck a nerve and consumed me until I finished it! Wow! I definitely need more stars to do this one justice.

An interesting dichotomy of our hero Detective Samuel Bowers, working for the police department and having to follow the rules. Then our heroine Charly. with a prosthetic left forearm and hand, ex-army and currently working for a private company which can sometimes bend the rules.

Both are working to stop child trafficking and solve a murder.

“Her arms wrapped around his neck. Her right arm was soft and warm, her left arm was firm and cooler. When she moved her left hand the faint hum of a motor inside her arm buzzed by his ear, and if it were anyone but Charly, he’d feel differently, but he liked that she was different. Unusual. But so seyx, and they had their jobs in common. She was spunky, smart, drop dead gorgeous, and right now, she was in his arms.”

Absolutely brilliant. A must-read!!

I enjoyed Sam and Charly’s story. These are fun characters to spend time with. They pulled me in from the start. I found this a very intriguing story that had me wondering how the mystery part was going to end. I loved how both the mystery story and the romance ended. Both were very fitting for the characters and the story.

While this is the 3rd book in the series, I read it out of order. For better enjoyment, I recommend reading the series in order (as the characters appear across the books). If you don’t, you can enjoy the book as a stand alone and not be completely lost.

I was hoping for more from the romance part of the story, but I’m not overly upset or disappointed that I didn’t get it. Especially as I’m hoping that we see more of Charly and Sam in the other books in the series and their HEA. I am looking forward to reading the other books in this series.

I listened to this book on audio and really enjoyed it. The narrators did a really good job. They are easy to follow and understand regardless of the speed at which I listened. They did a really good job with subtle changes in their voices when speaking for other characters.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Another amazing story by P.J. Fiala. The main topic of this series is such a delicate subject but she is such an incredible author and shows through her words the care she treats it with.
Both Charly and Sam have dangerous jobs. They do not have the normal 9-5 jobs. Charly, along with her colleagues are trying to and successfully rescuing children who have been sold. Unfortunately, this subject is one that does indeed exist and P J Fiala’s portrayal of it is incredible. Although Charly is missing her right arm it does not make her any less capable of performing her job. She is determined to rescue these children. Her drive and determination is what makes her so good. Sam is a detective with the police department and also good at what he does. He worries about Charly when she goes on an assignment not because she is a woman but because he cares about her and does not want her to come in harms way. Charly never thought she would find love after her injury but once she met Sam, she felt something she never felt with anyone else. She works with men who are good looking and muscular, but she looks at them as though they are her brothers but when she looks at Sam there is nothing brotherly about it.
I truly loved this story and my heart cheered every time a child was rescued. This story will have you on the edge of your seat unable to put down. A subject that you don’t ever want to think about but written with such care and pure talent that you cannot put it down. A true 5-star read.

loved it

Loved this fast paced story. Lots of stuff going on but it flows seamlessly. Also love how well the RAPTOR team and law enforcement work together, no high and mighty attitudes or dirty cops, just a lot of good police work and investigating. Charly and Sam’s relationship was hinted at in the previous book in this series so it was nice to see them come together after a few months of skirting their attraction. Then their relationship developed really fast while in the middle of an intense investigation that started with a little girl who Charly had helped recover on a previous mission at her previous job, only to find out that little Olive had been returned to her mother and sold to traffickers again! Charly and her team are aghast to discover there is no follow up in cases like Olive and her sister and they were returned to a dangerous situation when they were given back to their mother. But now that they have Olive they’re racing against time to find her sister before she is move and they loose their tenuous window. Detective Sam Bowers is involved because the house Olive was found in also contained many caches of weapons, ammo and notebooks detailing the gun smuggling and human trafficking. Together Sam and Charly follow the leads to track down Olive’s sister before it’s too late.

Charly is an operative for RAPTOR, and agency that finds and helps abused, kidnapped, missing, and trafficked children. Following up on some intel about a suspected kidnapper, Charly comes upon a murder scene. She finds a child that shot his kidnapper. She is determined to help this broken and abused child. It turns out, this child, along with her sister, are children Charly has rescued once before. How have they gotten into this situation again and can she find the sister before it's too late? Sam is the local detective that responds to the scene. He and Charly have been dancing around each other for months but now she may be in danger. Will she let Sam into her heart and let him help her find the missing children?

Another wonderful book from Fiala. This book is full of broken people finding their way in the world and sometimes finding their way to love and happiness. This is an action packed thriller about the ugly world of child trafficking. It is riveting story with wonderful characters, a compelling plot with twists, and a happy ending. Charly is a kick butt operative who will do whatever it takes to keep kids safe. She is tough, courageous and an overcomer. I loved reading her and Sam's love story.

Opppps I meant Craving Charlesia….no I really meant craving Sam, the detective who is a gentle giant and has been wanting Charly since he met her. He’s afraid of rejection until one day he finally decides to let her know that he wants her. Unfortunately it’s in the middle of a case Charly is working on and finds a scared young girl, Olive, who she has rescued before. Charly is determined to find Olive a good home and before she does, she promises to find her sister Haylie, who was also sold to child traffickers. Charly has a lot on her plate and Sam is beside her every step of the way, helping on the investigation and all in with her, in every way that counts….now they just have to find Haylie and make sure both girls are finally safe.
A great read with steam…oh my steam, suspense, emotional scenes and great characters. I loved these two, little to no drama and they fit perfectly. Charly, a strong woman who knows how to take care of herself and doesn’t let her handicap slow her down. Sam, a giant of a man but a teddy bear when it comes to Charly…sigh and swoon and sigh and swoon some more. The story flowed beautifully with a heart warming ending where the girls are concerned and especially the ride Sam takes Charly on….sigh and swoon once again.

The whole package?

Firstly, I need to say how much I love RAPTOR, the job they do, the people they fight for and the challenges they overcome...amazing accomplishments with operatives who leave you in awe.
Charly may be damaged, she may have been knocked down and no longer feel complete, but she is back up and fighting, determined to fight for, find and rescue those who cannot rescue themselves. She is totally focused on the mission, always....well until recently....until Sam. Now she is distracted, focused on his wide shoulders, his strong arms, his muscular legs, his gorgeous smell, his.....well everything! It's funny how she no longer feels broken with him, he sees all of her and she finally feels...complete.
This is a great battle of wills, not only between RAPTOR and the traffickers, but also between Charly and Sam as they find a way through their emotional baggage and dangers of their jobs to a future.... together. Every book in this series pulls you deeper into RAPTOR's fight, it's fast paced, packed with action and, at times, horrifying but it is also addictive. I read this in one sitting, on Kindle Unlimited. I am already both dreading and eagerly awaiting Piper's book which is released in January.

Charlesia Sampson is an operative for RAPTOR and she survived an explosion when she was in the Army which now means she has a prosthetic and yet she is gritty and is definitely NOT a damsel in distress. But when she is arrested for murder everything changes. Detective Sam Bowers found it hard finding her at the scene of a murder but when the truth became clear he sees her differently. Then it becomes a joint effort to uncover the murderer and find a missing child - but can they do that while hiding their need for one another because this detective is definitely craving Charlesia?

I loved this story which had the mystery of the murder, the missing child, the associated other crimes and the romance between Charly and Sam. It was a regular mystery as the reader was on the same journey as the characters following the trail and trying to work out who, what and where. Sam and Charly were a lovely couple who just belonged together and it was great to see them finally let their attraction free and build into something so special. I loved the ending and how they became a single unit. Definitely a HEA. Easy to read and feel the thoughts and emotions of the characters. Contains sexual content.

Raptor #3

Charlesia Sampson “Charly” is a Raptor operative and a disabled vet but doesn't let that hold her back. She is working a case that involves a missing child which turns into child trafficking. When she shows up at the house of a suspected child trafficker she finds a dead man and a child holding the gun. This is the same child she had saved before and was placed back with her mom only to be sold to child traffickers. Det. Sam Bowers arrives on scene and was afraid that Charly shot the man. Sam and Charly work together to bring down the traffickers and to find Olive’s sister.
Sam and Charly have great chemistry together and work on building a relationship.
Knowing that Sam has to work within the boundaries of the law while Charly doesn't, will that create problems for them? Will they be able to find the missing sister before she is sold? How will their relationship turn out?

This story is emotional and covers an issue of missing children and trafficking.
Another great story and handling of a tough issue by Ms. Fiala.

The first time Sam saw Charlesia he knew she was the one and then she was gone, he wasn’t going to let her slip away again if he had anything to do about it. They were per say working the same case " child trafficking “ he was police and she was RAPTOR. The main focus were the children but sometimes love can get in the way.

Charly knew she had to save Olive and her sister Haylie since she had a previous engagement with them and she wasn’t letting them slip away from her again either.

Who would have thought that this kind of crime was going on right under there nose for sooo many years, they find out. Never mind the child trafficking there are gun and drugs sales as well and Charly wants to solve them all. Sam doesn’t have a good feeling about Charly working what she is working BUT if they want to be together he will have to go with the flow because Charly has no intention on quitting !!

Can they make this work or will there jobs get in the way of LOVE !! What an exciting story !! Crime, Cases and LOVE !! Emotions everywhere ….

PJ Fiala’s newest edition of the RAPTOR series entitled Craving Charlesia: A Protector Romance is another realistic look at child trafficking and gun running. She blends romance, danger, and evil into a credible tale of happily ever after. Charlesia Sampson or Charley as everyone calls her, a military veteran, and Sam Bowers, a police detective, fall in love amid a criminal investigation. It’s an instant love as the two have been attracted to each other for months. The plot is about two little girls that Charley has already rescued once before. They are again in danger because their mother sold them for drugs; no one in the system checked on them when they were returned to their parent. Now that Charley and Sam have found one of the females, most of the narrative revolves around looking for the other. Fiala writes some of the most realistic stories concerning gritty topics and gives enough details to attract readers, but not turn them off the narrative. The characters are vulnerable, personable, and relatable, and once readers get to know them, they are invested.

P J Fiala is always a must read for me.

Charlesia "Charley" Sampson is a disabled vet works with the RAPTOR crew rescuing children. Sam Bowers is a local police detective. They have been interested in each other since they first met but have not acted on that interest.

Charley finds herself at a home of suspected child traffickers and encounters a child she saved once before that has shot the man who was holding her captive. Sam Bowers is the detective sent to the scene and finds Charley there. They both work to hunt down the people running the illegal operations and bring them to justice while also looking for the child's sister.

Charley and Sam acknowledge their interest in each and and a wonderful love story plays out along side the action and suspense of the case they are both working.

PJ Fiala knows how to write romantic suspense and give you a story and characters that will be with you long after the book ends.

Some subjects are harder to read about than others, and child trafficking is one of those – there is something shattering about the almost matter-of-fact way the children in this story note the ages of those who “move on” and the fear for those others. Yes, in the main this is the story of Sam, the police detective, and Charly, the RAPTOR operative determined to fight the traffickers and bring them to justice, but it’s also the story of children facing unimaginable horrors and their courage throughout. Sam and Charly haven’t acted on their attraction before, but, when he finds her at a crime scene, that changes. There is so much in this book, from the inability of an overworked system to safeguard the children it is there to protect, to the sheer courage of those children, to the definite heat between the main characters, and the love of their community. Long-time PJ Fiala fans will love it, and, if you’re not one of that group, you soon will be.

I received a complimentary copy of this book and I am voluntarily reviewing it.

WOW!!! The action was intense with this one. I completely fell in love with the main characters and a few of the secondary ones as well (Olive was such a darling!!!) The plot of this mystery and intrigue romance was so well written that I felt compelled to read late into the night to see if Charly and Sam could save Haylie in time. There were so many different twists and turns that the plot isn't a "cookie cutter" type of plot. I was so enthralled with each page. This story kept on going even when others authors could have ended it. I loved it that I hated when it was over.

This was written in my favorite dual POV format. I love seeing the characters' thoughts. It really helps me to connect with them and fully understand them.

There were some sexy times here so if you are easily offended, you could skip over.

I was really looking forward to this love story as we learned about the noticeable attraction/interaction between Charlesia and Sam. Charly’s teammates had picked on her and made comments when Sam entered into other books which was just intriguing. Sam is a detective, him and Charly often end up at crime scenes but they don’t have a lot of interaction until this case. These two find love while they are working together to find missing children and put away criminals. There are a few plots in this book and I couldn’t stop listening until all my questions were answered. I found myself laughing between the more intense moments. I listened to it in just a little bit over one day because I got interrupted by life obligations. Thankfully I had gotten to where they were wrapping up the case so it was a decent stopping point. If you’re looking for great characters (brought to life by the narrators), HEA love story and suspense then you’ll enjoy this one.

I received a free copy of the Indiana-based steamy post-military novel Craving Charlesia: A Protector Romance {RAPTOR book 3} by PJ Fiala and this review was given freely.

An action-packed and emotion-filled attraction finally realized romance is poignant and tragic yet at the same time so heartwarming that it brought tears to my eyes.

Charlesia Sampson finds herself re-rescuing nine-year-old Olive Tomms, who had just killed her captor, frustrated with the lack of long-term safe placements by Social Services for Raptor’s rescued children, and teaming up with the attractive Detective Samuel Bowers from the local police department to find Olive’s missing sister Haylie and stop the human trafficking ring.

18+ for steamy scenes is recommended and a box of tissues is suggested.

A great addition to this series. Sam is a detective and Charly a RAPTOR operative. Their attraction to each other was there from the first meeting but it took a while before he finally asked her out. Even though Sam can appreciate that Charly is able to take care of herself, he has a hard time holding back his protective side (and with good reason). I loved how Charly wasn't going to cut him any slack though, especially given all the training she has gone through.

This story seemed a little more emotional for me with Charly's reactions to the child they rescued at the beginning of the story. There were some twists and turns as Sam and Charly both worked on aspects of finding who is trafficking the children among other things. The chemistry between them is also undeniable. Loved this story and can't wait to see what happens in the next book.

After an injury ended her military career Charly found a new home at Raptor and she has made it her mission to rescue the children who find themselves in dire situation through no fault of their own. Her latest lead takes her to a home where she reunites with Olive, a child she helped previously, and even though she is safe once again the same can’t be said for her sister.

Sam is a police detective who has been trying to deny his attraction to Charly for a while. He isn’t about to let her pursue the search without him, but will he finally realize that they make perfect partners both personally and professionally.

Charly and Sam take us on an adventure filled with romance, intrigue and action that is sure to touch your heart as they fight to save those that are most vulnerable and find each other along the way.

This is the third book in the RAPTOR series, a Military Romance. This series is interconnected with the excellent GHOST series. Charlesia (Charly) and Sam's story is emotional, entertaining, fast-paced, suspenseful and breathtakingly captivating. Charly is a special operative in Team Alpha in RAPTOR, a group created to save children from traffickers. Charly is strong, smart, brave, and determined. Sam, a detective, is very handsome, and protective. The characters are well developed and interesting. The storyline is filled with suspense, action, and romance. Rose Dioro and Troy Duran did an excellent job with the narration. I enjoyed it. Looking forward for more in the series. If you like Military Romance/Romantic Suspense, this series is for you. I HIGHLY recommend it. #StoryOrigin

I love this Raptor series. Very believable, and my emotions go all over the place. Human trafficking in our world is very real, so I read these journeys with bated breath, wondering how much truth is mixed with the fiction.
I know there's going to be a happy ending at the end of each book for the mains. Charly and Sam were so good. He with the law and her with justice for the kids, sometimes those lines get blurred, need to get blurred too.
These two had danced around their attraction for months, it was awesome to finally see where they could go and what they could do together. Her, being an amputee, didn't matter to Sam in the least. It was beautiful, just like them working together for the kids, always for the kids.

Charlesia Sampson is a kick-ass asset whose passion is to rescue children who have been sold. Charly has a very personal stake in this as her sister Haylie was sold to child traffickers.
When Charly arrives at a house she believes a kidnapper is holding Olive the missing child she is seeking she finds a dead man and Olive holding a gun. When Detective Sam Bowers arrives on the scene he mistakenly thinks Charly is the murderer. After clearing up the misunderstanding Sam and Charly join forces to rescue the missing children. Ms. Fiala has done it again. She has written a thrill-a-minute romantic suspense well worth reading.

I received an ARC from the author and I am voluntarily leaving my honest review.

Charly was injured in the Army and now works at RAPTOR rescuing kidnapped or trafficked children. They rescue a little girl and come to find out this is the second time she has been rescued. Her sister was sold too and Charly promises to find her.
Sam is a detective and is called in when they find the little girl, Olive. Sam has met Charly before and they have flirted with each other. They get closer working this case and start to fall for each other. The traffickers scheme is falling down around them but can they find Olive's sister before she's moved?
Action. Sex. Edge of your seat suspense. Each book can be read alone but they each lead into the next. Sam is big, burly, and handsome. Charly is beautiful and smart. They are perfect together.

* Read as part of the RAPTOR boxed set 1-3 *

Totally not disappointed in this one, I was waiting anxiously for Sams story even asked P. J. Fialia if he was getting a story cause i fell in love with him in Saving Hadleigh. This is Sams and Charlie's story and from start to finish it was packed with all the feels. It has the suspense, romance and (sigh) a HEa. I can not say enough about this storyline and this series other than it is so good and i highly recommend it. This is the RAPTOR series and I would recommend that you start with the first of the series. It is about a company that uses disabled vets. Again I say great job P.J. Fiala .

WOW…..This series is truly amazing!
P.J. writes with her heart and soul. I can just feel the characters emotions with every page I turn.

Charlesia Sampson a RAPTOR operative and Detective Sam Bowers have worked together on several cases and the sparks that fly could torch a building. But the timing has never been right for something more. Until Sam finds Charly at a crime scene. But looks can be deceiving and she has a very determined detective in her corner. Sams tired of holding back he’s ready to make Charly his.
Charly devotes her life to hunting down child predators. She’s had her eye on Sam for way too long not to take the next step. And when Charly and Sam team up to stop this child trafficking ring there’s no stopping them.

Charley and Ben
Charley is a trained R.A.P.T.O.R operative.
Ben is a local police detective.

Ben and Charly have been attracted to each other (the sparks are there).

Ben and Charly work together on a case with the unsavory element of society,
who hurt and abuse young children.

Olive and Hayley have been rescued by Raptor, but Charly finds
that Social Services doesn’t follow up and they were given over to the unsavory by their parent again.

She and Ben are determined to find both girls and than shut down the unsavory to protect the innocent.

I recommend this book, it is has suspense, twists, turns and lots of emotion.
P J Fiala does not disappoint.
Great book Great job P J Fiala !!!

What a great addition to the series! Charly (Charlesa) lost an arm while in the military and joined RAPTOR to help rescue children in all kinds of danger. But when she goes to find a missing child, she walks in on a murder scene and finds out the child is one she has rescued before but her sister is missing. Local detective Sam, knows Charly has nothing to do with the murder. Despite his attraction, he has never acted on it but working closely together to find the missing sister makes that harder than ever before. What a fantastic story of danger, action, suspense and romance! You don’t want to miss this one!
