Grumpy sunshine heat when good girl nurse is forced to room with the surliest deputy in a small town!
Carina Alyce is the pen name of the Amazon best-selling author and full-time triple board-certified physician who started writing dramatic medical romances after twenty years in the trenches of health care. She promises she never had sex in a call room – the mattresses are not comfortable – or had a fistfight with a patient – though she did work as a fight doc at the Octagon. Her MetroGen romances are sexy, snarky, and real with all the heat and drama of the lives of our first responders.
She writes the MetroGen Downtown series that tackles the personal and professional challenges facing our front line providers. Her stories have the drama of Grey’s Anatomy, the comedy of Scrubs, the sexiness of Outlander, and the medical details of Forensic Files. They feature fast, witty dialogue, strong women with goals, and quirky ensemble casts because the hospital is full of smart weirdos who are willing to save your life.
When not working or writing, she is a brown belt in judo, an avid reader, and an attending surgeon in stuffed animal veterinary medicine for her six kids. (No one trusts her husband’s medical skills because he’s just a lawyer.) You can join her Prescriptions for Love Newsletter here!
I'm NOT a sports fan and Kyra and Ryan love their local sports team, so that part of the story didn't resonate for me. I enjoyed their banter, and their mutual love and commonality of sports, they were die hard fans to the max.
While I enjoyed the romance element, it was a bit overshadowed by all the sports talk. Ryan knew what and who he wanted, and I appreciated both of them being honest with one another. It was clear from the start that Ryan was a keeper, and I loved this hero because when enough was enough, he made a very, very difficult decision. At one of the pivotal moments, I was all smiles when Ryan didn't immediately acquiesce. Let's talk epilogue, it was everything!
Overall, I enjoyed this story, and I'll definitely be reading more from this author.
This is book four in The Metrogen After Hours Series and it is Kyra and Ryan's story and omg it is a must read. Kyra and Ryan speak to each other on line and then they meet up in Vegas for the first time and the chemistry between them is instant and strong. Kyra is a nurse and she loves order in her life where as Ryan is a doctor in the ER and loves the busy and chaotic emergency room where he has to make quick decisions. Kyra and Ryan are the total opposite of each other but they are also perfect together but will Ryan be able to convince Kyra to take a chance on them being together or will they both miss out on having a happy ending only time will tell. I really loved this fast paced story and it kept you on your toes while reading it and I couldn't turn the pages fast enough to see what would happen next as it was so addictive. I have read all the books in this series but I have to say that this book is my favourite so far and I couldn't put it down. Carina Alyce is an amazing author and writer and she certainly knows how to keep her reader's attention and addicted to her books and I definitely recommend you read this book, series and other books by her and you will definitely not be disappointed.

This was quite a wild ride! It's a very fast read and moving along at a lightning-quick pace just adds to the dizzying feeling of the story. Things turn on a dime, there's so many people, and there's a great deal of detail not only about the Cleveland Browns but also ER and NICU medicine. After a while I kind of gave up on making complete sense of it and just went along for the ride. It feels like it's very necessary to read the whole series to have an idea of who's who and what's happening (and I still don't understand the diary entries from the chaplain?)
Befuddled as I was at times, I'm not at all sorry I read it. My favorite part was the vivid detail in both the football and medical parts of the story. There's a real sense of place and community in the writing that feels so authentic. I would definitely encourage readers to read through the series if they're looking for a fresh, intense whirlwind of a story!
Many thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review!
Roulette: A Strong Woman Medical Romance by Carina Alyce is the fourth book in the MetroGen After Hours Series and inhabits the same universe as the MetroGen Downtown Forbidden Love Duets. One of the best parts of this series is the constant overlap and catching up with couples and people from previous books. Of all the books I have read in these two series, hands down this is my favorite. The book’s construction easily pulled me in and the initial connection/meeting between our two main characters was so cute and so much fun! Kyra Washington and Ryan Yates are polar opposites; she is a very organized and composed nurse working in a neonatal unit and he is a laidback, adrenaline junkie working in the always hectic atmosphere of the ER; he is also a bit of disciplined gambler. They meet while cheering for the perennial losing team, the Cleveland Browns. I do not watch football but amazingly the banter between these two die hard fans was fascinating. I actually learned a great deal about the history of the Cleveland Browns. When they meet, they are both in costume and based on their love for the Browns, strike up an online friendship, sight unseen. When these opposites finally connect in real time and real life, will they be able to forge a lasting relationship? The commentary/diary entries from the hospital chaplain made for charming transitions between chapters. I liked Kyra but I LOVED Ryan and I was totally rooting for him to beat the house!

Roulette is the story of two serious Cleveland football fans who decide to take a chance on love while never giving up on their beloved team. Ryan Yates is an ER doctor who chose Cleveland, for team reasons, and it doesn’t hurt that he meets Kyra Washington a kindred spirit on game day when he interviews for Metrogen. The story gives us time to get to know Kyra and Ryan and their quirks, their love of football and how they are with their friends and coworkers at the hospital. Ryan is a man on a mission because he knows that Kyra is the one. Kyra is more reserved when it comes to love and commitment. Events happen in the story that pulls them closer together but also tears them apart. Can their love survive their differing personalities? Will their jobs in the same hospital cause friction and separation? Is the Cleveland Browns a strong enough reason to stay together? All the drama and love of a hospital couple will be answered and FYI TV and a real hospital setting is vastly different. This was a good read and the medical terms and actions won’t way you down.

This is a fun, romantic, but sometimes difficult to understand story. Whenever I thought I had figured out the two main characters - what made them tick, what their preferences were, how they would react to each other - something happened that seemed totally out of character.
The story begins with two people meeting each other by chance, but before long finding out they have much in common. As their lives are drawn together, it becomes obvious that there is a mutual attraction. They don't fight it at first, but one of them has to have rules...which ends up complicating everything.
Their work life is at the same hospital and their fun life is supporting the same football team. They seem to bond on every level, but not so fast. There are rules which must be followed. The one who must follow them seems to be a natural rule breaker, but when the rule setter wants to look the other way, he says stop. That's against the rules!
This goes on and on, causing major friction, which doesn't get resolved until the end of the book. But it was worth the painful wait. Nice story!
Roulette: A Strong Woman Medical Romance is a cute love story and part of Carina Alyce's MetroGen After Hours series. MetroGen is an interesting romance series. The series centers around the doctors, nurses, and firefighters in a large Metropolitan area. In Roulette, Ryan and Kyra meet adorably. They are both attending an annual parade put on by Cleveland Brown diehard fans. He happens to be donning a T-Rex costume. The uniqueness of their relationship is that they are perfect for one another, and one knows it and is ready to go all-in, and the other is not willing to take the risk, despite what the heart says.
This was a quick read: nothing too deep and nothing over the top sex-wise.

Roulette: A Strong Woman Medical Romance MetroGen After Hours Book 4 by Carina Alyce
Kyra and Ryan meet online as they are both obsessive supporters of the Cleveland Browns football team. When they are both in Vegas they arrange to meet up. They couldnt be more opposites. She Is a calm, organised, in control Nurse in NICU and unknown to her he is an ER adrenaline junky doctor in the same hospital.
A fast moving read with loads going on.
A constant page turner - great characters and marvellous storyline.

Truly enjoyed Ryan and Kyra’s story. It's like you go back to the beginning before Noah and Erin. To see how Noah put things together. From the beginning, there is a camaraderie between Ryan and Kyra; you could tell Kyra was afraid to put herself out there. In a way I understood all sides of what happened with Carver, it didn't matter what he did the odds weren’t in his favor. Kyra’s opinion and attitude in that heat moment weren't needed, it wasn’t her business to mind.
Ryan and Kyra draw you into this intriguing story. She loves order and and prides herself on it. Ryan is an ER doctor who makes tough decisions and thrives on the chaos and adrenalin. They meet online but come face to face on a girl's trip to Vegas. Ryan is certain that Kyra is his one, but can he get her to stake a claim on him for a happily ever after? Ryan and Kyra will have you in their corner placing bets on them finding their way to happiness!

Vegas, football and ER romance Again, a book that needs some free time, because it is almost impossible to put it down before the last chapter. Next to the wonderful romantic (steamy) story there is a lot of football insides, Vegas tips and the ER dealing with a terrible traffic accident. Again, meeting people you’ve met before in other books in this series and beyond, means reading through happenings from a different point of view. Reading them like that gives them a 3D experience. Again, lots of laughter and feel-good moments. Recommended!
Kyra and Ryan are Cleveland Browns fans. The Dinosaur meets the Cheerleader fan and a long distance friendship begins between LA and Cleveland. When this long distance friendship turns into a at home in Cleveland relationship can it last? Nice story and catch up with the Metrogen/Cleveland Fire Dept personnel.

The fourth book in the MetroGen After Hours series a book I was not putting down until I was finished there is so much going on in this story. Neonatal Nurse Kyra Washington and ER Dr. Ryan Yates' story had me smiling at somethings as I read. I would recommend. Unfortunately this one was one of those books in a series that seems necessary to read in order. I had no idea who most of the characters were, or why I should care about them, and it distracted me from the main plot. A lot of the drama seemed manufactured, but htat could be because I didn't understand the setting.
This is the fourth book of the MetroGen After Hours series. Kyra and Ryan have a good connection . This book have a good storyline and a nice page tuner .

Great storyline and character development made this book a hot and enjoyable read! Extremely entertaining, captivating, and interesting sexy read. I could not put it down. Wonderfully written with strong, intriguing characters. I want to read more from this author.
This was a quick, enjoyable, immersive read. The characters were interesting and the plot was punctuated with just the right amount of drama and conflict to work with the narrative pace of the story. A solid four-star read.
I really enjoyed this story about Kyra and Ryan. I loved how they met, their interactions, their crazy love of football and how honest they were with each other. Loved it.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5 Sizzling from the first scene, Roulette combines opposites-attract romance with workplace drama and heartfelt charm. Kyra’s no-nonsense nurse personality pairs perfectly with Ryan, the adorable, neurodiverse ER doctor whose confidence and vulnerability are equally magnetic. Their connection—sparked by football fandom and solidified in late-night hospital moments—feels surprisingly intimate, even as the pace stays fast and fiery. Ryan’s instant infatuation is balanced by Kyra’s guarded pragmatism, and watching him win her over is as satisfying as it is sweet. This romance blends steamy scenes with emotional payoff, and its layered take on neurodiversity and love at first sight adds refreshing depth.
