All’s fair in love and war. The problem is, I want no part of either. I want peace with the Bratva. Safety for my wife. And love? That’s never played a part in any of this. But the harder I fight against it, the more she pulls me in. And now I know that she’s carrying a secret. One that could change both of our futures forever. I made Sofia a promise. They’re all about to discover just how ruthless of a man I can be.
Ruthless Promise is the final entry in the Promise trilogy, part of the Mafia Princes series, and is not a standalone.
This book contains graphic violence and sexual themes that may not be suitable for all readers. Ruthless Promise is best suited for fans of Nicole Fox and Rina Kent, who love their heroes damaged and their romance dark.
Prepare to be captivated by the sensational world of M. James, the mastermind behind a genre-defying realm of romance and intrigue. With a pen dipped in passion and a heart that beats to the rhythm of forbidden desires, M. James weaves tantalizing tales that will leave you breathless and yearning for more.
Follow her to the dark side where strong heroines fearlessly navigate treacherous paths and damaged heroes find solace in their darkest corners. Her words will wrap around your senses like a seductive embrace, transporting you to a world where love and danger dance a wicked tango.
M. James resides in the suburbs of Chicago but lives for the big moments that make life interesting. Although writing brings her passion and darkest fantasies alive, watching suspenseful thrillers with her two dogs and loving husband brings her excitement in the most exhilarating way. Nonetheless, getting lost in a dark mafia romance along with a tall glass of wine makes any day a bit juicier.
From enemies to lovers to forbidden romances, M. James' stories of passion, intrigue, and betrayal will keep you hooked until the very end. If your appetite craves the intoxicating prose of Rina Kent or the allure of Sophie Lark, prepare to be entangled in M. James' captivating new series. But be warned, dear reader, for her world is not for the faint of heart. It is a world where inhibitions are shed, and inhibitions are tested. It is a world where passion reigns supreme, and where the pursuit of love can ignite a blaze that consumes all in its path.
2.5 🌟 Totalmente innecesario tres partes de este libro, trama aburrida, Luca súper bipolar sobre sus sentimientos con Sofía, todo predecible y nada de otro mundo. Ideal para sacarte del bloqueo porque se lee súper rápido
This book starts with an incredibly loud, world-shaking bang and the aftershocks keep coming. Except after a lull in the action they build and grow in preparation for the grand finale. There were so many twists in this storyline I could barely keep up but it never felt overdone or like James was reaching for the next big thing.
With so many events taking place in this book James would have been forgiven for slacking with the gutwrenching emotion I now expect her to convey or letting the steam blow away. But no! This book had my heart in my mouth, very nearly made me cry (and I. Don't. Cry.), and had me squirming in my seat.
This was an amazing conclusion to Sofia and Luca's trilogy but I hope that this isn't the last we hear o them - I'm convinced there's still more to their story. And Caterina. And Ana.
The final installment in Luca and Sophia's story brings everything full circle. There is so much deception and lies going on throughout this series that is finally divulged. People that Luca trusted the most are the very people that have been plotting against him the entire time and has caused the death of so many people. There were definite red flags in book one and two that made me suspect a certain character, but once you read enough of these books, those characters start to stand out.
Luca and Sophia's relationship has a rough ride throughout this book with Sophia getting kidnapped and almost dying. It also has poignant moments when Luca takes her on a real honeymoon to an island where they spend time as just Sophia and Luca., making love and having the chance to actually talk and fall in love as man and woman, not Mafia leader and captive. Luca's character really starts to grow on the reader in book three until it doesn't. He behavior becomes erratic as more people die and has this on again, off again relationship with Sophia. His timing sucks when Sophia is finally released from the hospital after being kidnapped and tortured and confronts her the minute they walk in the door of the mansion. His frustration of not being able to control her is exhausting at times. Communication is still a huge issue between these two and Luca can go from 1-100 in anger (when he feels vulnerable) pretty quickly resulting in conversations that go nowhere These two need to learn to communicate if they ever expect to make it. Luca does show his sensitive side in book 3 toward Sophia and the reader starts to believe that he loves her, not just obsessed with her.
The last few chapters of the book seem to go to hell when the people within his organization just keeping building on the lies they are feeding Luca and he believes them instead of believing Sophia. Her character certainly does plenty of damage by not being truthful throughout this series and she too does some pretty stupid things.
Once the traitor in Luca's organization is revealed, things start to happen quickly. Sophia must fight for not only herself and Ana lives, she must fight for the life of her unborn child and the man she loves. Luca and Sophia finally get their well fought HEA (kind of) with Sophia making most of the sacrifices, but are ones that she is willing to accept. Peace for the Italian Mafia and the Russians comes with a great price for one of the main characters that Luca agrees too (he just lost a H point for that). That story is the next book that will come out later in November 2021.
What an ending!!! I am left with all kinds of questions, and left wanting more. I had a feeling about Franco but didn't guess that situation at all! I didn't see the ending coming and was blown away. The relationship between Luca and Sofia was fraught and had you guessing all the way through, I honestly hoped and prayed for a HEA but really didn't know which way it was going to go. I feel another book ;) would help clear up the ending haha

An amazing conclusion to Luca and Sofia’s story! The twist and turns keep on coming in this book and the spicy scenes keep on coming 🔥🌶🥵
I have thoroughly enjoyed this series. Amazing world building and great character development- at times I hated Luca and Others I loved him …. Just like Sofia!
And the ending!!! I guess that means more books to come - I can’t wait to here about Caterina’s story and where that goes!!
This was my favorite of the 3 - the storyline was much more developed. The characters were well developed since the 1st book. I really hope there will be a 4th because this leaves so many questions unanswered. Also glad Sofia finally grew a backbone!
Sofia was weak and meek she was frustrating and her character was unlikable. Franco was so transparent I could tell who he was just from the first lime in meeting him. Luca started strong but well. The only one I like was Giovanni and he died....
O Boiiiiiiiiii!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The book was a whole ride of drama and i loved it.... This book was far better than the 2nd one in the series. At first while starting this specific I didn't had much expectations from it but by the end "i fall in love with it" especially the prologue took my brain and most of the liking came from there like how casually Victor said... "So I would ask for one more thing, to keep the peace. I want Franco's widowed wife. I WANT CATERINA ROSSI" it honestly blew my mind. The book ends on a cliffhanger with a new book "captive bride" on the way. I do honestly feel bad for Caterina. Don't know what written in her fate but will look forward to it. And about the plot twist so yeah I had already guessed about the one in Ana's time period like who did this to her or more specifically who beaten her but after Luca's confront to Sofia I thought that nahhhh!!!!! Franco is innocent at the last he just did his work to keep the TraITOrS!!!!!!! but the tables turned around. so now what lefttttttttt........ ahhhhhhhhhh.......... oh yeah at the scene of luca in hospital and colin by his side I thought he changed and he'll ask for forgiveness 'don't know why though i felt that but i just did' and you already what happened after that..... BUT BOIIIIIIII THE ENDING. I guess the writer did a pretty good job to leave it ona a cliffhanger 'eSpeCIAlly LiKe ThiSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!! (I became a fan of it) The book is between 4.5-5 stars from me
HOLY FREAKIN WOW! I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS TRILOGY! This story starts out with a bang and the aftershocks just keep on coming. It's so intense and exciting it's a rollercoaster ride of emotions I didn't want to get off of. I was consumed from the very beginning. I had my suspicions about a few things throughout to series and one in particular I was right but it was so much more than I thought. There were many moments that had me bouncing in my seat trying to read faster to find out what happens next. It's full of heart pounding moments. The angst and suspense made me jittery inside. At times I had tears in my eyes for poor Sofia and for Caterina and especially Ana. Sofia is thrown into a life she never wanted but she had no choice but to do as she was told. It was choose Luca and live or don't and die. But I'm thinking being with Luca would be no hardship. He's so smokin hot the sun gets jealous in his presence. Lol. Loyalties will be tested. Love will be tainted. Boundaries will be crossed. Hearts will be shattered. Lies will be told and secrets will be revealed. And hang on to your panties ladies because Luca and Sofia set the sheets on fire. I can't wait for the next book. I can't wait to get more of Caterina's story. And I really want more on poor Ana and what's in store for her future. I EXTREMELY RECOMMEND THIS TRILOGY TO EVERYONE!
Wow. Wow. Wow. Finished the trilogy in 3 days. Could not put it down
Saw the traitor plot with Franco, I’m always suspicious of ‘the right hand man’ in films and such, so expected this. It was that, or Ana the best friend. I just didn’t understand why it was so important that Viktor not get his hands on Sofia, he wanted to Wed her, I expected her to be the key to the Italian’s downfall if used against them, a secret or something. So confused with that.
Loved seeing Luca thaw to Sofia, loved that he finally decided to let his feelings be heard to her out loud. Was also realistic in terms of, he didn’t tell her they’d leave this life behind and run off into the sunset.
And I mean the sex scenes, recently purchased a kindle & the kindle unlimited subscription to go with, I’ve read just other a dozen books. When I talk about the book to my Husband he said it sounds like we’re paying for me to read porn! I’m no prude, this book could make a sailor blush, certainly makes my eye brows shoot up. Something different isn’t there about reading every detail in a book than it is watching something like this play out on screen. In terms of the sex scenes, blows all the other books I’ve read out the water, by far.

WHAT. so many thoughts. that was bad. first of all why is he being an asshole to her when she literally was just on DEATHS fucking DOORSTEP. she was just tortured and youre gonna be a dick to her you can go kill youself. fmc in danger is actually the best trope ever and so so so so so incredibly hard to screw up. the one rule is the mmc has to freak out and kill everyone in sight and be an asshole to everyone except the fmc. the first two were spot on but then he had to go and ruin it all and be a dick to his wife who was just severely traumatized god i just hate men so deepy. that entire book i was rooting for her to run away from him. also why did she just completely forget how much of an asshole he was to her after he was nice to her for 10 seconds. like have you learned nothing. i also literally can not decide which character i hated more. i think the best character in that trilogy was the unborn baby (i hate babies) anyways that was kind of a trainwreck but who am i kidding i enjoyed that so deeply it was so entertaining and i read it so fast. books that turn my brain off are my bffs which makes this trilogy my bff even though it was ridiculous. its a toxic relationship.
Luca & Sofia’s story concludes with them fully understanding each other’s needs and wants. It was not an easy road for them to find each other but the conclusion was worth the wait. Sofia is internally struggling to accept that she is a mafia queen and she must put aside her fears for the greater good of everyone she loves. Luca is struggling as well to manage these new feelings for his wife that he never felt possible. However, they are also dealing with all their enemies and murder plots that could destroy everything they have finally come to want out of their marriage. This book is filled with hot sex scenes and violence but it also sets it up perfectly to continue Caterina & Viktor’s story as well. I’m excited to see how Caterina is going to handle being promised to the Bratva. Happy Reading!
Soooo let me start by saying thank you to author. It’s always easier reviewing a book than writing it. Having said that, i didn’t consider this as a dark romance because 98% of the first two books were all about Sofia the indignant immature stupid little girl acting foolish. I absolutely HATED the way Sofia’s character was written. I love strong SMART STRONG women not ignorant childish girls. These books are supposed to transport us to these characters and places 🤔🥺I promise you that I skipped or fast forwarded (Alexa reads for me) most of all Sofia’s chapters. There was nothing cute or sexy about a petulant girl behaving so stubborn and indignant as if she was a man! Bravado my butt! Ruthless promise was much better and finally tied up all the loose ends that author dragged on in the previous two books.
Ok I’m not going to lie I knew who had Sophia and I’m pleased Luca did what he did although he could have done so much more. Sophia, Catarina & Ana have lives and pasts they never wanted but those pasts have shaped how their lives now and their futures will be. Luca is too damn hot for his own good and that honeymoon ❤️❤️😍😍 god I wished men like him existed in the real world lol. I have loved this trilogy and read all 3 books in two days I just couldn’t put them down. If I had anything negative to say it was that I wanted more at the end like an epilogue with kids and Luca being a loving and devoted husband and Dad. I am hoping I get to see Luca & Sophia’s lives in more detail in Caterina’s book due on 21/11/21 so waiting patiently for this story to continue.
Okay..... in all three books I just could not like Sophia. Even up to the end she still remained an obnoxious pain in the butt. I felt she was just so scatterbrained. I feel there was one thing the author omitted; not once did Sophia play her violin. I think it would have been a nice touch to add something about that in. What happened to Ana was devastating. She seemed to accept it but dang how awful that was. The villain of this took me completely off guard. I did not expect it to be the person responsible for the death and mayhem caused throughout the three books. I feel the storyline for all three books are excellent. I just could not warm up to Sophia.
Reasons I enjoyed this book: Action-packed Happily Ever After Page-turner Romantic Realistic Scary Steamy Tragic Unpredictable
After the first two I expected more. And when I say more I don't mean more of Luca and Sofia fighting, of being lovey to each other for all of two pages then Luca realizing he loves her so he treats for like crap "to protect her".
I thought for sure this book would be more satisfying but it wasn't. I hated how it was the whole book was and then the last couple chapters were what I wanted the whole book, I wanted them working together to make New York safer for their child but no they acted like children the whole book.
I will not be reading Caterina's book because its the same thing again, 3 books of only 200ish pages each. It doesn't need to be split up like this. Ahhh...
This is book three in the Dark Promise series, be sure to read books one and two before starting this book. Sofia doesn't know who she can trust or how she is going to get away from Luca, but circumstances require she find a safe place away from Luca. Luca finds himself falling for Sophia, that is until he finds out she went behind his back to try to escape, twice. Will he decide she is more trouble than she's worth or will his growing feelings get the better of him? Thus is a great series and I highly recommend it!
This final installment to the Promise Trilogy is everything I could have wanted. Luca and Sophia are both strong willed characters, but in the end they both are filled with love as well. Things are not always as they seem and Luca and Sophia must fight to understand one another. Happily ever afters don't happen for mafia men, or at least that's what they've been told. Can Luca and Sophia be happy? Can he deal with the secret she's keeping? Can she deal with living the mafia life? There is so much more to this story and I can't wait to see what Ms. James does next!
I hate to start a book/series and guess how its gonna end in the last book/chapter! I have to finish it no matter what my mind says! I also hate that Luca's father was Marco and Matteo! The grammatical errors was hard ad well! Overall, Luca is the only reason I completed the series! In the last book, I only read his parts and the quoted/speaking parts of Sophia! I am happy that its over, but hell....now I wanna know Viktor's damn story! If I was new to reading these mafia type books I guess I wouldn't be so critical! I just expected...more!
Skim read it to be done with the trilogy, from the sublime to the ridiculous. I still don't understand why someone would be afraid their partner would do something that they promised to a person who is now dead?! The premise of this last book is clutching at straws to say the least. A contract drafted in fear of a son who is now dead.. so what's your problem??! Stupid.
I had already read Caterina's story before this trilogy. I didn't realise they were connected, if knew, I'd probably have left it alone.
What a conclusion to Luca and Sofias story!! I just loved how the plot and their relationship developed. This had such an intense plot full of lies, twists, betrayals and loads of steam!! I really didn't want it to end, I'm just glad we got the HEA. If your after a dark mafia romance, loads of steam and a gripping plot then you need to read this series!! Of course now we need Caterinas story!!!
I received an ARC from the author and this is my honest review.
So I started off backwards by reading Captive Bride and couldn’t get enough of Catarina and Viktor. I came across this series that is the prequel to it and holy moly it didn’t disappoint!! Sofia and Luca are just as insanely passionate together as Catarina and Viktor woah , I couldn’t put my kindle down !! I love this Author’s writing style she really keeps you obsessed once you start reading her stories.
