Heart of a Lion: The Wild and Woolly Life of Bobby Layne by Bob St. John

Get it right, Goodreads.

Once upon a time the Detroit Lions were a good football team. One of the best. Bobby Layne was one of the reasons for Lions greatness in the 1950's. Alas, success in the NFL that predates the Super Bowl is almost as if it never happened for many.

The book is a standard athlete bio. Nothing groundbreaking but a solid read. St. John chose a unique timeline starting with Layne's pro career and then going into The Blonde Bomber's early years and college career after before wrapping up his final years on this mortal coil.

Before there were NFL legends like Joe Namath, there was Bobby Layne. An excellent step back in time to view one of the great competitors in the NFL and the man who lead Detroit to multiple NFL titles.
