Code name: Ranger Target: Maisie Ann Jones Mission: Uncover the whereabouts of a smart, sexy spitfire
RANGER Undercover, confidential, and dangerous, the new K19 Shadows lurk where others won’t, ready to act in a moment’s notice. When Maisie Ann Jones disappears with a serial killer on the loose, it doesn’t look good. The others have turned up dead.
I refuse to let anything harm this woman, after all, she stole my heart. I’m determined to find her, save her, and take down anyone who gets in my way.
MAISIE A teenage crush. At least that’s what I thought it was. But when Ranger comes barreling back into my life, nothing stops how I feel or what I should want—I just want him. I’m a Dartmouth grad who took over my family’s business before I turned twenty-five. I don’t need a man. I’ve never been a damsel in distress. Until now.
But I’m worried that he’s met his match. Will this serial killer destroy the only man I’ve ever loved?
This was very bland. I stuck it out for as long as I could but I only made it to 32%. The plot dragged along. I couldn’t get into the characters either. It’s a shame because I wanted to see what happened in the story but I just can’t do it.
I didn’t find myself invested in the characters - at all. They felt very one dimensional to me. There were lots of others who came in and out of the book from previous story lines and I felt like I was missing out on an inside scoop not having read any other of this author’s books.
The plot was fine, but felt rushed through the entire book. There was far more ink dedicated to Maisie’s business plans than the suspense part of the plot. I also didn’t feel like there was a whole lot of romance in this book. It was very superficial, fast and not very believable, even for a work of fiction.
I realize I am in the minority with my review, so maybe it’s just me. It was a quick read that was free in KU, so I’m only out my time. Hopefully you like it better than I did.
Very good book. Ranger was so into her, loved him and so protective of her. Maisie was such a strong woman, so many strengths. These couple was beautiful despite the fact that they married each other within a week of being together was way too fast but each for their own
What a great read! Ranger and Maisie have known each other since schooldays. When fate puts them back in their home town together the sparks fly. Both have their own issues they are trying to work thru, but find their attraction hard to ignore. As Ranger helps Maisie make her dream of bringing their old home town back to its glory disaster strikes in the form of an old boyfriend. How they make it to their HEA makes for a fast paced and intriguing read! Really enjoyed it

Code Name: Ranger is books 1 in the K19 Shadow Operations by Heather Slade and WOW what a way to start this series.
Ranger and Maisie have know each other for a long time, started a relationship and things are going smoothly until Maisie is kidnapped. Now Ranger and the other K19 operatives need to figure out who kidnapped her…a serial killer or an unscrupulous ex…can they find her in time or will she disappear without a trace…
Suspense, kidnapping and so much more…will keep you turning the pages to see how it all ends…
This was great! I couldn't put it down. Maisie and Ranger have amazing chemistry and loved seeing their relationship move from friends to more. There is some action and adventure that had my heart racing.
There is a good balance of intrigue, fun, and romance. Ranger is keeper and Maisie like the girl next door with excellent business skills. The plot takes a twist I didn’t see coming and ends as a cliffhanger.
Wish I could give this book more than 5 stars. This book will take you through so many motions. Ranger and the rest of the team once again shows you what it takes to get a job done, while the same time showing what it means to be family. Can not wait for the next book!

I thought this was a good story of Ranger and Maisie who knew each other when they were younger and meet again. I liked the connection between these two and enjoyed their story.

This was a very sweet story of Ranger and Masie Ann, it's awesome to see an alpha fall hard and fast. Their story sucked me in big time, and then wham, it happens, all hell breaks loose. Totally awestruck on how they are dealing with it together. I absolutely love the in-depth characters and how they interact, they are family, tried and true. It's always a wild ride when you read any of Ms. Slade's books. I would definitely recommend any of her books and series. 5++ stars.
Ranger and Onyz are in upstate NY for a previous case. Ranger bumps into an old friend, Maisie. She is the owner of the old amusement park that they use to hang out in when they were kids. There friendship turns into a relationship. They both have the same ideas and feelings of revitalizing the Lake area. Ranger belongs to a special ops group of K19 Shadow Group. Onyz, Diesel and Ranger are part of this group. Maisie and Ranger decide to check out area tourist area to get ideas to incorporate some of it st their lake. While away they decide to elope. The same way her Grandparents did. Come to find out it was the same place. While they were away she had a meeting with some potential investors. To help with the vitalization of the amusement park and the Hotel. Maxim an old boyfriend, but inscruplpous person, showed up at the meeting. He had swindled many people our of their investments. But some how the charges where dropped. She couldn't stand being in the same room with him. Thank God Ranger was with her. When they returned, they waited to tell everyone they were married because she wanted to tell her Grandparents first. But getting abducted changed all that. Some one from her past, Maxim, kidnapped her, drugged her and raped her. They thought she was abducted by the same man that had kidnapped three other women and the murdered them. Ranger and his crew did everything they could to get her back. He had drugged with a date rape drug. But with all the technology they were finally able to find her and apprehend Maxim. Maisie was happy to see Ranger, but felt guilty for what Maxim did to her. Ranger stood by her and was there for when she needed him. Their love was stronger than anyone could have imagined. Dr. Fasano was the psychologist, who was going to help them work their way to the way they were before the rape and kidnapping. Ranger and Maisie know that it will be a long road but they will take one day at a time. Maxim, is going to be transferred to the FBI, but are ambushed and Maxim is murdered. He had dealings with The Bonnano family and they were afraid he would try to work out a deal for a lesser charge. They try to contact the Dr. Fasano to reschedule but she didn't return their calls, so they thought she was ghosting them. She is the next victim in the kidnapping of the Serial killer they are looking for. Great story by Heather Slade.
Really choppy writing at first, & I didn’t feel the love between them, at all!
It was really bizarre this book. Owen/Ranger grew up in the same town as Maisie, and when she was 18 he wanted to claim her as his. So he was 22 at that point, and in the military then the CIA and he hasn’t seen her for years, but decides she’s his??? Even stranger is that Maisie says they never talked and Ranger never even noticed her! So fast forward years later and he can’t wait to see her, the girl that he never got over. 🤨 Maisie is just as bad. They go out for dinner a couple of times and they’re falling for each other. Then they get married!!! I just didn’t feel this crazy love that they had. At the beginning of the book the team of K19 are camped out in the small town where Ranger grew up. They’ve been threatened by someone, but the author never explains it, so we just have to guess. As it’s never mentioned again about how much danger they’re in.
Then out of the blue Maisie is kidnapped. In a bizarre plot, that really didn’t make sense. There is a massive trigger warning to this book, as something really really bad happens to Maisie.
I just didn’t enjoy this book. The writing was terrible in places. Maisie was having a conversation with Ranger and one of his team, and she asks one of them if they’re married, he says yes but separated. Because you can’t tell who is talking, I thought it was Ranger who was married! Then there’s his team who call Maisie ‘sis’ so I was wondering if one of them was his real brother! One of them is his blood brother, I think. I’m still not sure!!!
Ranger is book One in the K19 Shadow Operations. Gotta tell ya Ms. Slade has her work cut out for herself for her next books she’s going to have to work pretty hard to out do Ranger! All of these reviews are spot on this is an excellent story. Ranger aka Owen Messick is second in command of Shadow Ops - him and his team are all being kept at his family lake camp under protection of threats against their lives, so Ranger is back on his old stomping grounds, he is anxious to see if his one regret in life is still in the area and still single Maisie the girl he has never forgotten. Yup…There she is! They get together again and start up again and discover they both have feelings for each other the chemistry they had all those years ago is still active and strong. Maisie is taken/kidnapped right out from under the team in the bright of day all of this while the team is also in the depth of trying to find a serial killer. Is Maisie’s kidnapper the serial killer? Will Ranger and the team get to Maisie in time? Or…could her kidnapper be someone from her past? The story is well written nice smooth flow has twists and turns, off the charts chemistry, funny, characters are compassionate, witty, characters show passion, protectiveness. I highly recommend this story. I received an Advance Reader's Copy and am voluntarily leaving my honest thoughts and opinions.
Ranger and Maisie have known each other since they were children. They both went their separate ways and come back together years later. Ranger immediately feels a connection with Maisie and wants to see where it goes. Maisie has always had a crush on Ranger and is over the moon when he asks her out.
Maisie is trying to revitalize her hometown and is working on getting investors to assist. She asks Ranger if he wants to help her look at other properties to see what could be incorporated into her dream.
There is one possible investor that Maisie has no time for and wants nothing to do with, but she needs financial backers. Ranger immediately dislikes the man and asks his team to look into him.
Ranger and Maisie enjoy visiting properties and end up at the same place her grandparents were married. The relationship between Ranger and Maisie is so strong that they end up getting married.
Everything is going well until Maisie is kidnapped for ransom and Ranger and team go on the search.
This book has twists and turns, tough subject matter but overall was a good read.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Ranger is second-in-command to Onyx in K19's new group, Shadow Ops. These guys are all about working behind the scenes, keeping a low profile, and their first case is taking on a serial killer who already has left three victims behind. Just a few weeks into Ranger's romance with Maisie, a woman he's known since they were teens, she's kidnapped and the hunt is on.
I loved the backstory of their romance - so sweet, so swoony! I adored the romantic twist and loved the family connection. I loved Maisie as a character - a very strong woman with a plan to revitalize her childhood community and breathe new life into the resort area she loves. Ranger is everything a girl could want in a hero - devoted, protective, supportive, truly the wind beneath her wings.
This story does have its difficult moments as the author doesn't shy away from the trauma that is inflicted upon our dear heroine. But the scenes that follow are some of the best I've ever read as Ranger and Maisie work together to facilitate her recovery. Their HEA was written in the stars, and I relished every bit of their story. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
This book opens with a glimpse of the now, then goes back to establish everything. If you've read Onyx, this will be a bit familiar but from a different point of view.
There is a major threat against the K19 group and the men here have been ordered to shelter in this small town until the threat has been eliminated. As a result, with Onyx in command and Ranger as his second, a new unit of K19 has been established this one Shadow Operations.
Ranger's family has always been a part of this lakeside community of camps (cabins) and along with his team they are making it their headquarters. He's trying to make the best of the inactivity and when they are invited to dinner at the Jones' he remembers Maisie and the attraction between them. Now he's wondering if it will be the same.
Now Maisie is taking over the family business and has big plans to revitalize the area. Unfortunately there are other things in play she doesn't know about.
Ranger escorts her around to examine what makes some of the surrounding areas so successful and they wind up doing something very unexpected.
There are so many surprises, plenty of intrigue and of course some sizzling heat.

Code Name: Ranger by Heather Slade is book 1 of the K19 Shadow Operations series. It is a spin off of her K19 Security Solution books. It you want a steamy romance with action, twists and high tension then grab this book.
Ranger and team are lying low in a lake town where Ranger spent his summers. He reconnects with a girl he couldn't ever have but has never forgotten, Maisie. These two have such a sweet chemistry but it heats up as the story progresses. Ranger launches into full protection mode when Maisie is abducted. Is she in the hands of a serial killer and can he save her in time?
This book is non stop action and surprising twists. I found the story pulled me in and held me through to the last page. If you are new to the K19 series there are many men and women that are on the team with Ranger. Each has a special skill and I bet story to match. This new series will be added to my must read list.
another hot hero 4.5** Heather Slade's series of alpha security and protection novels are a great combination of romance and drama. Ranger has been attracted to Maisie Ann for years. After their first kiss things stalled because the following day she left for college but now she's back and he is determined not to lose out a second time. His narrative in regards to thoughts and feelings for her is at odds with his persona and it is refreshing to see the gentler side of him. Their love is fierce and getting married seems the perfect thing to do, until she is kidnapped and things rapidly go downhill. A serial killer is lurking but Maisie's abductor is different and her creepy ex Maxim. The aftermath is going to be difficult for this couple but they are strong in character and in their relationship to survive.

This was a great mix of a second chance as well as the dangers that the new Shadow Ops team will have to deal with. Maisie and Ranger knew each other when they were younger and now that Ranger, his brother and others are staying in her home town Ranger takes the opportunity to reconnect with her and see if the feelings he has and had for her are still there. I loved the mix of action and attraction along with the escalation of feeling like something was going to go wrong to the panic when it does go wrong as well as how Ranger and Maisie fall deeper into each other as if they had never spent time apart. I laughed and go frustrated with things as well as shed a few tears and felt the anger for Ranger at time and can not wait for the next book to see what happens next for Shadow Ops as they continue to settle into their new lives as a team.

The first book in Heather's new spin-off series has a lot of what made the previous books so great: wonderful characters, action, suspsense, heat, friendship, a sense of family and of course, romance. Yet this one feels different as well. It has a bit of whimsy, but on the other hand, deals Maisie an incredible blow that she and Ranger are slow to recover from. More than on the action, this book puts more emphasis on the emotions of Ranger and Maisie, from good to sad to incredibly moving and powerful. Also unlike previous books, while this book does not exactly end in a cliff-hanger, the threat continues into the next book featuring Diesel, Ranger's best friend and partner and I sincerely hope that we will get to see Maisie and Ranger again then!

Ranger and the crew are held up in the camp near where he grew up, the team is currently under threat. When he sees Maisie for the first time since she went to college, he cannot believe it is her, her liked her a lot then, but now, enough said.
Maisie had a crush on Ranger things were just starting to heat up, when she went to college at Dartmouth. After getting her MBA she is back, planning on resurrecting her family's amusement park and then some. Reuniting with Ranger makes her realize it was not just a crush. The more time the spend together the closer they get, they go up in flames.
When Maisie is abducted by a serial killer, Ranger will move heaven and earth. This is not a cliffhanger for the couple but the story continues with another couple.

If you've been keeping up with K19 family, you'll be excited to venture into this new shadowy world. Excellent start to a new series and it looks to be as great as the others. Wonderful characters that you can understand and you actually want to find an HEA. I love that the story is well plotted and well developed. No stupid people or convenient plot twists. This is a well thought through story, full of adventure and loaded with action. The bad guys are bad, the good guys are good and they are real. Decisions are made that make sense and no idiots to be found. (Can you tell I recently read a book that left a lot to be desired? - This was a breathe of fresh air - I'm glad this author is back!) You won't want to put the book down and if you are driven to go back and read or re-read the previous series. you won't regret that either. Highly recommended.
With a crush dating back to their teenage years, both main characters are ready to take their romance as it comes. When Maisie is taken and a ransom is demanded, Ranger will do whatever he can to get back this woman who has stolen his heart and soul. She is the only woman he can imagine seeing every day for the rest of his life and someone could be hurting her. This story shows the depths this man will go to for the love of his life. I can only say I hope there would be a man so invested if this ever happened to me. This contains deep sadness, traumatic experiences but also heart racing true love. I did feel this was slightly drawn out but I did like their fast blossoming relationship. Ranger's patience and care is so endearing which instantly had me falling for his character.

Another great story from the very talented Heather Slade. This book has action with some twists and turns, suspense, danger and most definitely steam. The characters are so likable and boy do they have some really great chemistry. Code name: Ranger is book one in a new series and what a great start it is. I was hooked and couldn't put it down. Ranger has to lay low with his team in his hometown and just maybe its time to reconnect with the feisty and sexy Maisie Ann Jones, but as things get steamy Ranger must do his best to save her from danger. Maisie Ann can't believe her high school crush is back in town the sinfully hot and handsome Ranger she is hopping for some reconnection, but things don't exactly go as plan. This is just the start of one wild ride you won't be able to put down. I loved this book and I highly recommend it. Can't wait for more.
Ranger is part of the Shadow Ops Team, and on returning from a mission, he comes across an old friend. Maisie is now running an amusement park and hotel she inherited from her family, that they had gone to when younger. Skyrockets go off and they get serious enough to elope, but before they can tell their friends, she is taken by an ex and terrible things happen to her. The characters are complex, determined, supportive and have great banter. The storyline has it all, with drama, surprises, twists, danger, intrigue, steam and rescue. A second plot of trying to find a serial killer keeps coming into play as well and they are not safe from him either. Loved the chemistry and the strength they have to keep going strong. Great ending.

I love that he setting for this series is set in the Adirondacks. The new Shadow Ops team is settling I to Canada Lake. For Owen Messick AKA Ranger it's a homecoming. He has many fond memories of growing up there. One of the fondest is Maisie Ann Jones. Thee was a spark between them but before they could act on it life got in the way. Now, however, he means to change because Maisie is a beautiful grown up woman with big plans he wants in on. Reviving Canada Lake is an exciting prospect and having Ranger by her side, sharing her vision and excitement about the prospects is a dream come true. Magic happens then disaster strikes. The team's first assignment, finding a serial killer, is supercedes by Maisie's disappearance. Are they related? Ranger fervently hopes no. The aftermath tests both of their inner strength, love and commitment.
This is the 1st book in the K19 Shadow Operations Book series by an awesome author. What a way to start to a new series! This is Owen (Ranger ) Messick (second in command of Shadow Ops) and Maisie Ann Jones story. Ranger and the team are laying low in the Adirondacks at his family lake camp. These two first met in high school, but parted ways. Now they meet again and all the feelings and chemistry is still running rampant. But there is a serial killer on the loose, Maisie is taken but who actually abducts her is it someone from her past or the serial killer? Can Ranger and the team save her? Can they rekindle their romance with all this going on? Well you will just have to read this intriguing story. I highly recommend taking the time to read .
** This story may not be suitable for all readers. It may cause some triggers for some** This is a well-written suspenseful romance. It grabs you from the start. She has had a crush on him since high school. After their first kiss, he could not stop thinking about her. When danger threatens their happiness, Ranger must do what he does best, rescue the most important person in his life.
Ranger worked at K19 Security Solutions. His team is laying low because of a threat against them. He’s back in his hometown and can’t wait to see her.
Maisie was back home to save the family carousel business. She wants to re-develop her home town. She’s getting ready to eat when he walks into her grandparent's living room. Owen is still as handsome as ever.
Our heroine has always had a crush on our hero, but until now it has been kept at bay. Similarly, out hero will do anything to protect her. But danger has a way of bringing things to the surface. Are they ready to face the music?
This is the perfect blend of action, thriller and romance in my opinion. We get lots of action and intrigue from all sides while the chemistry between our couple is intense and long overdue. Surprises and twists keep the reader guessing while the action keeps you flipping pages to see what comes next. Will they get an HEA? You will have to read to find out.
A solid plot and great characters makes for a very enjoyable read.
Highly recommended.

Book one ranger. I think i liked Heather's earlier works better. There was a lot of romance in this book, whereas I preferred missions and action. It took a while, but finally, we got to the crime and how our shadows we're going to solve it. I did enjoy the way Heather has put these books together, giving us littte climaxes and little bits of information as we delve into each book. It's enjoyable to hear of past alphas that we have read or listened to and how They are all using their expertise to piece it all together.
I just love Stephanie and J. I have listened to them through all of Heather's works and the accents they both do, just carry an extra bit of special into these novels
