Prince Lloyd wasn't always a prince...in a previous life, he was a sorcerer, of sorts. So when he was forced to reincarnate, he decided to continue his studies, prince of the realm or no! But his new life has its own sets of challenges...including being a 10-year-old! What's the 7th prince/sorcerer to do?!
The popular digital-first isekai adventure comes to print!
In his previous life, Lloyd only wished to study magic, but his status as a commoner lead him to an unfortunate end. After being ruthlessly done in by the very magic he so desperately desired to master, Lloyd opens his eyes to an amazing new existence as the 7th prince of the Kingdom of Saloum. This time, he's been born with unmatched magical potential! With a new lease on life and the resources to make any dream a reality, Lloyd sets out to become the best sorcerer in the world! There's just one small problem... He's only 10 years old! How is anyone going to take him seriously like this?
This felt like a pretty standard reincarnation kind of story. Unnecessary fan service, a grown man remembering everything once reincarnated, and now he wants to destroy and understand the world through magic. I don't think I will continue with this one.
I have some really weird feelings about this book, and I think it all comes down to discrepancy in tone in the depictions of women. This book spells it out clearly that Lloyd is not interested in women, to the point that he wouldn't even nurse as a baby. It makes some sense that Lloyd would not view those around him sexually as he is physically only 10. But what I quickly got fed up with is that every single woman is hypersexualized, which we can easily assumed isn't how Lloyd is viewing this world. I get that this is made for the male gaze, but this fanservice is honestly a detriment to the story,
I really liked Tao because I liked the idea of Tao's sexuality playing against Lloyd's lack of sexual interest. Also he Qi puns honestly had me laughing while I was reading this.
I probably won't continue this manga, partially because the hypersexualization and partially because I can already see it getting repetitive.
It had its cute moments, though they are few and far between -- pretty much everyone has an overly sexualized appearance .... including the titular young seventh prince. AND the palace maids / weapons instructors all view this young boy that way as well.
Title is misleading. There is no "perfecting [his] magical ability" -- Lloyd begins excessively and uninterestingly overpowered and only gets more so. There's no real refinement of technique, just dumping more power behind things. He faces no real challenge in anything he does -- other than avoiding the interest of the maids.
I somehow managed to finish the volume (it was short), so it gets a two-star at least, but I'm hesitant to even give it that. Treat it as fan-service featuring a feminine young boy and exaggeratedly buxom women interested in him, nothing else.
This one was not really my cup of tea. It was well written and drawn, but too much like a video game for young teen boys. The video game stats and adventure style as well as random gratuitous nudity are not my preference in stories.
I received this book from Netgalley in exchange of an honest review.
This was one of the new manga from Kodansha that I just HAD to try out. I mean the title is already one thing (it is glorious), but the blurb and the cover also looked very nice and so here we are! Finally had the chance to read this one last night and I enjoyed it really a lot.
Meet Lloyd (which in my mind I kept pronouncing as Laloyd as Garmadon in Lego Ninjago does), a boy who is the seventh son and a prince. Well, he wasn’t always a prince as we can see in the pages before he is born.. he was originally a worthless sorcerer and got executed. But with reincarnation comes some nice perks, and I am sure that being the seventh son also helps. Lloyd is superpowerful. Like crazy overpowered (something another character finds out). A little fireball may seem harmless, but in Lloyd’s hands it is a weapon and will destroy things around him. XD And there are other instances in which Lloyd does things that are just not normal (100s of spells for instance in one go). I am still not entirely sure how I feel about Lloyd. For most I really like the little guy and I love how hard he is studying, and hello, how can I not like a character that sneaks into libraries when he wants to read but actually has to do combat training. XD But sometimes, I am not sure, I wonder if the little guy will stay good or if he will turn to the dark side when he gets older. It also doesn’t help that he can put up some really menacing faces when he is doing magic or thinking of something. So yeah, I kind of hope he will stay good as that would be the most fun for me.
I love seeing Lloyd go through the daily things of a 10 year old prince. From having to bath with the maids (which is hilarious on its own but now imagine it being an adult man in the body of a child, he is trying very hard not to look at all the things around him XD) to combat training with his mentor (who is one of the best characters in the book) to being around with one of his brothers (no clue where the rest of them are). In the mean time, all Lloyd wants to do is study, practice magic, and the likes.
Somewhere mid-way we get a new character, someone who has immediately regrets ever meeting Lloyd. Namely a demon. Who thinks that Lloyd is an easy target because he is a kid. Oh boy, I just felt so sorry for that poor demon. And also later in the manga as the two get closer and Lloyd gets more inventive with ways to keep the demon, I was just thinking that someone should free that demon and bind it back to the book it came from. I did like the demon though. How he tried being evil but found out it was better to be normal. I did think it was a shame that he lost his cute form so soon, I wouldn’t have minded seeing more of that.
Then later on our prince goes on an adventure and we meet an even better character and one that I hope will pop up more often in the next volumes. Tao. A girl who is martial arts specialist and truly can kick some big fat ogre and other ass. I had a laugh though at how one-track-mind this girl was, she saw a hot guy (Lloyd in his disguise) and instantly went to try and make him her BF. You go girl! Good luck. XD
The art. Well, I would have loved it was just a bit more consistent. At times we get AMAZING WOW art (the Lich and some scenes with Lloyd), but at other times it gets very ugly with weird looking chibis. It is just a shame as it did affect my reading pleasure.
But all in all, I laughed, I cheered, and I was curled up nicely in my bed enjoying this manga! I definitely want more of this!
I liked this manga. I had my eyes set on it for quite a while because I thought the title and the cover where interesting.
Overall, the manga was quite funny. Indeed, Prince Lloyd is very cute and does not always realise that what he does is impressive for the people around him, which create funny reactions. He is already very powerful so I wonder what will happen next. The only thing that annoyed me was the fan service in one of the scenes (why, just why). The story is nothing out of the ordinary for the moment but I think it works. At least, that’s what I like.
I recommend this manga for a bit of laughing and entertainment.
4/5
Thank you Netgalley for this eArc in exchange of my honest opinion
Firstly, I would like to thank Netgalley and Kodansha Comics for providing me with an e-arc in exchange for an honest review.
This is a typical reincarnation story where a man died in the hand of a great sorcerer and he was reincarnated as the 7th Prince of a kingdom with his memories still intact from the past life. The prince was very interested or more correctly obsessed with sorcery and spends his time to perfect his magic ability. Rather than normal activities as a child, he was more interested to become the great sorcerer in the world.
Not much to say that this wasn't my favourite kind of story. I like the idea of reincarnation, the curses and his ability but the fan service seems a bit too much for me. If the author focused more on the characters, it will be so much better. But I have to admit, the sorcery and the demon curses were fascinating to read. Plus there is an element of qi the author try to incorporate here and that can develop into something more. The artsyle was very good in my opinion, they were amazing to look at. The main character's interaction with the demon he conjure are actually quite entertaining.
Its an interesting read for me so far but will have to check volume 2 to see how it fares for me.
There are lots of isekai light novels / stories out there and this one is no different.
Your guy is isekai-ed and starts off as a baby (which i like and prefer). He's also good in magic and has this usual take on ladies who wants them to appear sexualized at times (and i'm not a big fan of that as a girl myself).
I'll probably not continue reading this yet as of now and will just wait if this will be better in the future as I've seen lots of this already.
Still gave this 2 stars as the art is magnificent and there's still a chance for the story to be great in the future.
This was my typical pick up, has the word reincarnated in the title, so I wanted it no matter the plot. The actual series so far has been pretty standard for the isekai genre, but I still enjoyed each moment, I'm looking forward to reading the next two volumes I currently own!
So, bear with me. I know I Was Reincarnated as the 7th Prince so I Can Take My Time Perfecting My Magical Ability, Vol. 1 is an incredibly long title, but it still managed to catch my attention! You've got to admit, that title is very descriptive!
In fact, the title very neatly sums up the core plot of this series. Prince Lloyd was lucky enough to be reincarnated with all his memories – which means he was born instantly knowing that he had a deep love for magic.
Now, ten years later, he's still obsessed with learning everything he can about magic, spellcasting, and any other detail that could possibly ever come to mind. The series itself is both written and illustrated by Yosuke Kokuzawa, and as it was the cover that originally caught my attention, I knew right away that I would enjoy the art style.
This plot thread will certainly sound familiar to manga and anime fans. So, while the premise itself is pretty common and easy to predict, I did find myself really enjoying the insanity of it all. Prince Lloyd's character is super OP (which will probably become a problem, as he is only ten and is pushing the boundaries of magic), but that actually adds to the insanity of it all.
There are lots of funny details and moments strewn about, and I'm not ashamed to admit that I Was Reincarnated as the 7th Prince so I Can Take My Time Perfecting My Magical Ability (I need to find a shorter term for that!) had me laughing out loud pretty frequently.
So, to Prince Lloyd and Yosuke Kokuzawa, I thank you for all the laughter and entertainment. It was worth reading, and I think I'll even pick up the second novel when it becomes available.
Thanks to Kodansha Comics and #NetGalley for making this book available for review. All opinions expressed are my own.
ARC received from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
I Was Reincarnated as the 7th Prince so I Can Take My Time Perfecting My Magical Ability was an absolutely hilarious manga, but probably not in the way the author intended. This definitely fits in with my personal rule of thumb; the longer a manga's title is, the less you can expect from it. IWRATSPSICTMTPMMA has an acronym that would make even a veteran BookTwitter user's eyes cross, and the inside is exactly what it sounds like. A peasant with inferior magic desperately tries to claw his way up in a world where your magic depends on three things: bloodline, aptitude, and dedication, and ends up being murdered just in time to be reincarnated as the land's seventh prince. Regaining his memories means ten years later, he's become a formidable sorcerer. Between the maids adoring him, having to hide his powers so he doesn't rock any boats, and releasing a demon to be his familiar, he's got a lot going on in his new life!
I can't say I cared much for the shota aspect, the nudity, or the very video game-esque worldbuilding. I've been lucky to uncover some amazing isekais, but this is very typical of the genre in a way I didn't like. I know I'm biased, since new isekais I read have very high bars to clear, so I gave this book a pity half star on my rating since it is exactly what it appears to be, even if I didn't care for it. In the end, this wasn't for me, but if you're a fan of very typical isekais where an overpowered boy gets dropped into a new life and is surrounded by boobs, this would be perfect for you.
Shota manga series with mature scenes of a bathhouse and lots of nippleless women overly sexualized. The young price, whos 10 btw, is also featured in sexualized poses and is very feminine in design. I'm sorry but this is really drawing on the line of pedo territory. That said, the story intrigued me about a boy who wants to learn and grow his magic abilities. If only the characters were drawn with more decency, the manga would honestly be something really cool to look further into. The fight scene with the Grimiore was awesome and thats something I would love to see more of.
You know what, I'll give this another chance. I'll try reading the second volume and see if I can look past its severe issues so I can enjoy the story. 2.5/5 overall rating!
This is such a twist on the standard reincarnation, I guess I just wasn't in the mood to appreciate it the first time around. I just read it again and enjoyed it so much more! Diving in to the 2nd volume! The art style is unique and kind of cutesy which is a really cool counterpoint to the adorable vs sorcery-maniac main character. It's pretty funny, actually!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advance copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I loved the illustrations and the adventure type of narrative this one had. Prince Lloyd is so cute and his curiosity is so pure. This was a well-written manga with cute and funny characters. I would definitely want to read the next volume.
The title is already ridiculously long, but once you add the premise and the super pretty colour pages (rainbows! So many rainbows!!!), it is batsh*t crazy!
The ecchi / fan service got a bit too much, the fights wild, but the story were wildly inventive and so much fun to read!
This is a weird series with an equally weird MC but the art style alone makes up for it. Yet there are not just the drawings to enjoy but the side characters and the fight scenes that balance beauty with thrill.
I thought this was an easy slice of life adventure of a little prince mastering magic. I was wrong.
It's still a little prince mastering magic but it's suggestive, bordering on shota. Will I continue reading this? I'll give it until volume five before I call it quits.
