The first word that comes to mind for this book is bland. The story was complex but the delivery didn't make much of an impact with me. The characters came across as bland also. It was a good police procedural and the correct steps were covered. The book was more interesting for me after about 40%. The story has a good bit of violence in it. I guess I'm not impressed with gangs and drug dealing. I won a kindle copy in a Goodreads giveaway.

Cold Consequences by David Rohlfing is the second in the Detective Sasha Frank series. I liked this one a bit better than the first one, although both of them were good. Frank is very methodical and ties everything up neatly in wrapping paper and string. I would rate this one as a 4.85. While there are certainly vivid descriptions of many deaths, nothing is overly graphic. Frank's methods of unraveling complex plots is presented in such a way that I find myself admiring his style and can see myself emulating him.

No sexual content. I would recommend the series as a step above a cozy murder mystery and appropriate for most readers. Good reading on a beach or sitting next to a fireplace as the snow falls outside. Basically, good stuff!

I very much enjoyed this book. The characters were interesting and had shades of grey in some places. The plot began with what happened and why and then the detectives had to figure out who did it and who was killing off their suspects at the same time.

This book was an interesting twist on a murder. The reader knows right from the beginning, who did it!! Then we watch as the murder investigation unfold. It gets more and more complicated. Different factors affecting the investigation, constantly changing. An interesting look at a police procedural, including the legwork involved. I won this book in a Goodreads Giveaway.

Great twist on a murder mystery. You know right from the beginning who did it then read how the investigators solved the case. Well written characters.

In Cold Consequences (A Detective Sasha Frank Mystery), David Rohlfing tells us who the killer is by page 4! Sweet, but troubled, Ashley has an opioid addiction. It is really heartbreaking knowing her story and knowing the drug dealer who killed her didn’t care. I was flipping the pages so fast wanting them to get caught it was crazy. I was yelling at Detectives Sasha and Darcie to just hurry up and find the evidence. It was painstaking having to watch them go through potential suspects who just taunted them. There are multiple twists in the hunt for Ashley’s killer. Ashley is a privileged former soccer star who suffers from chronic pain. She drives her nice white BMW to meet her supplier of her pain medicine. It was funny meeting the drug dealer because I was thinking “oh, he’s a nice drug dealer who cares about his family”. And then I’m like, “oh my gosh, how can he be a good guy if he’s dealing drugs”! Ashley is shot after she obtains her (“beans”) pain medication. Sasha and Darcie are the detectives assigned to her case. They are determined to figure out which of the suspects on their list could be the killer. I had such compassion for Ashley’s family, admiration for Sasha and Darcy, and even empathy for a few of the drug dealers. There are A LOT of characters in the book, but knowing who did it helps. There are a lot of criminals getting away with a lot of things. My Dad worked for a Sherriff’s office solving cold cases after his retirement as an anthropologist/military officer. Those years were the ones when I kept asking him, “please can we not discuss dead bodies, crack whores, and crying families at Thanksgiving dinner!!!!” My Dad was a lot like Sasha, he couldn’t rest until he brought closure for the families. In Cold Consequences, that is one thing every single character has in common- the quest for closure. I didn’t read the first book David wrote called Deliberate Duplicity but I was able to relate to all the characters just the same.

⚖️ JULY REVIEW + BOOK TOUR ⚖️
[Cold Consequences || David Rohlfing]

Thank you to the author, publisher River Grove Press and @booksforwardpr for this arc for an honest review. This book releases next Tuesday, July 27. I highly recommend all mystery lovers to check this one out!!

Cold Consequences is a prequel in the Detective Sasha Frank Mystery series by @davidrohlfing. The 1st book is also out, Deliberate Duplicity.

My biggest complaint is the BLAH cover to this book, my complaints pretty much start and end there..I was hooked from the first page.

I love a mystery where we believe the detectives are investigating one thing, while meanwhile things are happening and brewing on a side timeline for a big final reveal.

I thought that I had everything figured out until the end when I was thrown for a final loop. I loved the detectives, and look forward to more in the series.

Not only were the protagonists enjoyable, the antagonists were realistic and the plot never came to a halt. The book kept moving nicely from start to finish.

An interesting twist on a murder mystery where you know from the very beginning who committed the murder. Ashley Cummins is buying drugs from her dealer when the deal is interrupted by two thugs and she is murdered. Ashley, who became hooked on opioids after an injury, was the daughter of a wealthy family and the granddaughter of a retired judge. Detective Sasha Franks and his partner Detective Darcie Lyman are assigned the case and the pressure is on to find the murderer and close the case. They begin questioning drug dealers in the area and that is when things begin to fall apart. The dealers are being murdered before Sasha can get them to talk. As the dealers fall one by one, I had an idea who might be involved, but there was an intriguing twist at the very end. I really enjoyed this fascinating read as the dealers faced their “cold consequences”. I received an advance review copy at no cost and without obligation for an honest review. (by paytonpuppy)

Ashley Cummings belonged to a very rich and well known family. Unfortunately she had developed an addiction to Opioids which was was previously prescribed to her as a painkiller. Her serious addiction lead her to buy drugs from illegal places. During one late night dealing both her and her dealer were attacked by some other known drug suppliers of that area and in attempted robbery Ashley was shot.
Continuing his investigation new evidence unravel and his suspects either dissapear or end up dead. How did that situation come to be? Will he able to solve the mystery behind this incident or will he find himself to be one of target for these people. Read "Cold Consequences" to find out more about Sasha Frank's adventures.
Who doesn't like to indulge in a good mystery novel once in a while ? Anybody would admit mystery novels contain a certain type of allure and this time "Cold Consequences" by David Rohlfing has certainly attained some points for having such good story with impressive characters. Everything from the plot to the characters were satisfactory to read. Would definitely recommend this for people who like to read about mystery or thrillers. Even if you don't now is your chance to find out about the world of mystery.

What a delight to read a book that has no bad language or sex scenes! And on top of that, it’s an excellent story. I haven’t read anything by this author before but I will be reading his other book. There are numerous murders in this book without gorey details. The characters are real-life, some of them with no conscience. It was easy to feel the frustration as the detectives ran out of clues to solve the murders. I knew who the killer was, as we are told in the first pages of the book. I was turning the pages fast to see if it would all come together for the detectives. There were lots of complications for them along the way, and the ending of the book was a complete surprise. If you like a good who-done- it mystery, consider reading this book.

Cold Consequences is David Rohlfing's second book in the Sasha Frank Mysteries. I received a copy of the book through a Goodreads Giveaway. After having read and greatly disliked Rohlfing’s first book in this series, Deliberate Duplicity, I didn’t know what to expect with the second one. Well, it was a million percent better. This mystery is well written, with a complicated plot and interesting characters. The story starts with one murder, then turns into several and they all seem to be connected to the first. The story moves along at a nice pace with a twist at the end.

I received a copy of this book from Goodreads in exchange for a review.

Detective Sasha Frank is very methodical in his approach to an investigation. The murder of Ashley Cummings, is no different. Is it a place of ‘Wrong place, wrong time’ or is there more going on? A drug deal gone wrong? A random killing? In addition, Ashley is the granddaughter of a well-respected judge. Can her family keep out of the investigation long enough for Detective Frank to get to the bottom of the killing?

A very step-by-step approach to the investigation. Detective Frank slowly and methodically builds his case to a very surprising ending. Well-paced and intriguing.

Cold Consequences by David Rohlfing
This is a Sasha Frank mystery. Detective Frank is the senior detective at the Bloomington Police Department, near Chicago. Ashley Cummins succumbed to the allure of street drugs when she was unable to get her pain killer prescriptions refilled. This led to her murder.
Sasha and his partner, Darcie, found themselves investigating a murder that continued to escalate throughout the book. The plot was intricate and plausible. The death of a child, regardless of age, can lead family down dark paths.
Rohlfing did a great job in keeping the action moving and the end result hidden until the very end.
I enjoyed the book.

Keeps you thinking! The author seems to have hit his stride with his second book. He starts out by telling you exactly what happened and who was involved and then the story takes off from there! Very well written and entertaining! I am looking forward to the next book in the series. I highly recommend!

“Cold Consequences” is a superb, action-packed vigilante justice mystery with a high body count. I loved it! “Cold Consequences” was even better than David Rohlfing’s debut, “Deliberate Duplicity.” Senior Detective Sasha Frank is a most unique and very likable hero who is very dedicated and sharp-witted. I look forward to more installments in this highly intriguing series.

Cold Consequences is David Rohlfing's second book in the Sasha Frank Mysteries. It was quite well written - even better written than the first, Deliberate Duplicity. The complicated plot was intriguing (I kept trying to connect the murders to find the person behind them all). I loved finding someone's behavior described as 'deliberate duplicity' near the end of the book! I can't wait for book 3 in the series. Add David Rohlfing to your list of authors to follow as I have.

It was definitely different. I developed the impression that it was some sort of strange police story especially since we knew from the beginning what happened to her. As I continued reading, it became obvious that something strange was going on concerning this death. I thought I had it figured out but I was definitely wrong. I never figured it out.

Too much information could possibly spoil the book for some people. It is worth taking the time to read.

Cold Consequences starts with an overdose case that evolves into so much more. It does so in a believable way. I like the storyline and enjoyed the characters, especially the MC Detective Sasha Frank. I'm looking forward to reading more in this series.
