★★★★★ "Dangerous, haunting, twisted, powerful; this is what true dark romance is meant to be." -The Flamingo Bookshelf Review-

Two captive dancers.
One cruel master.
A single performance to determine whether they live or die.

Anya
I've served the four families since I was kidnapped three years ago.
I've accepted my fate, knowing that escape is impossible.
My villainous master abuses me, but I've learned to live this lonely life.
I've become complacent in my misery… then my master brings home another captive for me to train, and his presence changes everything.

Ezra
I was violently taken and brought to kneel at her feet.
She demands that I dance with her, but I refuse to recognize anyone as my master.
Yet when I see the horror of her existence with my own eyes, I know I have to save her.
I could never have expected her to break down my walls… I could never have expected to form an unbreakable bond… I could never have expected to fall in love.

This is a dark romance series involving many triggering elements which may be upsetting for some readers. A complete list of tropes and triggers can be found on the author's website.

Brynn Ford is a USA Today Bestselling Author of dark romance for daring readers. She writes emotionally heavy love stories that will twist your soul and shatter your heart before pulling you back together with a hopeful happily-ever-after.

Brynn's books are dark, sometimes disturbing, and often overwhelming. But they're always brightened by an insistent, spicy romance that will live rent-free in your head long after you've turned the final page.

When Brynn isn't obsessively writing, you may find her binge-watching favorite shows while eating far too much junk food or fanatically reading, always seeking to lose herself in the emotional roller coaster of a damn good story. She's a firm believer that her characters continue to live outside the pages in the minds of her readers. Stories don't end just because there aren't any more pages to turn.

So, "The Four Families Trilogy" by Brynn Ford just kicked me in the feels. I'm giving it a solid 4.5 stars because, wow, it was intense, but also, I need a moment to recover.

This trilogy was my first taste of Brynn Ford's writing, and let me tell you, it was like an emotional rollercoaster I wasn't fully prepared for. The series totally deserves a 5-star rating for its crazy plot twists, deep characters, and the insane emotions it stirred up. But, I'm knocking off half a star because, seriously, the trauma Anya and Ezra went through is still hitting me.

Let's talk about Nikolai. Man, I hated him, but at the same time, I kind of didn't. He's a mess, and I guess that's the point, but I wanted to see him suffer a bit more for the chaos he caused. Props to Brynn for making me feel all conflicted about this dude.

Book two was probably the darkest pit of despair, with Anya and Ezra getting separated. The "mine" and "yours" thing they had going on hurt. Like, not cute hurt, but full-on soul-crushing hurt. It's beautifully painful, and I'm not sure whether to cry or give them a hug.

The trilogy wraps up on a happier note, but damn, at what cost? Brynn Ford outdid herself, making me question everything I thought I knew about dark romance. I always thought Pepper was the queen, but Brynn left my heart in tatters.

My only gripe is that Vigo, the bad guy, didn't get what I felt he deserved. Sure, he's a compelling villain, but I wanted to see him suffer so much more for his evil deeds.

Anya and Ezra, though, they're my forever favorites. Despite all the craziness, they stuck together and survived. "The Four Families Trilogy" is a wild, and I don't want to say beautiful, but heartbreakingly beautiful ride that's going to stick with me. Brynn Ford, welcome to the dark romance hall of fame.

whoa!!

This is one book ( trilogy) you don’t want to pass up! Oh lord I don’t even know where to start. If you like dark romances , this is the one for you. Please heed the trigger warnings.
This book is dark , it will break you, put you back together and break you all over again. I almost skipped to the epilogue so many times because I just couldn’t stand not knowing what was going to happen. It is best going in with no spoilers . There is so much heartache, angst, and love all mixed in the most horrific of situations. The chemistry was off the charts and” bedroom “ scenes were some of the best I’ve ever read.
I am new to this author and I can honestly say that I will be reading more of her work. You will feel such a deep connection with the characters. You will feel what they feel and struggle with their struggles . I really liked how it is told in different POV’s. It lets you get the full picture and doesn’t leave you wondering about what’s going on inside the characters mind. This is possibly my best read of 2022!!!

If you are looking for a captive romance that glosses over the atrocities of kidnapping, human trafficking and slavery, this isn't it. If you want to read a dark romance in which the villain is redeemed and begins to see the error of his ways, this isn't the story for you. If sexual, physical, emotional or mental abuse is a trigger for you, it would be best for you to stay far away from this series.

If, however, you want to read a beautiful love story built upon hope between two people who live through unspeakable things, then you will enjoy this story. If you want to read about realistic experiences one has after being abducted, then you will appreciate this series. If you want to feel a wide range of emotions and serious reading hangover, then pick up Counts of Eight, the first book in this trilogy.

I did an individual, more in-depth review for each story in this series, if interested.

Unbelievable to think that such cruelty could possibly exist, let alone that four families could persist in this cruelty for generations. Believe the dark content warnings, they are real. This is a well written, heartbreaking set of stories following the different families and their talent slaves. I was definitely hooked on the story and read all 3 of the books without stopping. There were many times I wanted to reach into my kindle and strangle one of the characters slowly, to repay them back tenfold for the atrocities they put their slaves through. If you can handle darkness, this is a great series of stories. I am already reading book 4, a spin off of the series.

The pain and strength to read this took its toll. Very dark and dreary and for the most part it seems like all hope is lost. There is a hea but you will have to work through all 3 books to get it.
