Strictly At Work by Sudha Nair is a fluffy romcom set in a co-working space. Simi is a Marketeer for a furniture company where as Ranbir is an analyst at a financial start-up.

Both Ranvir and Simi work at BizWorks, a co-working space / setup where their paths meet and sparks start to sparkle between them. Simi is already being pushed into an arranged marriage with Karan, whom she does not even like.

Whereas, Ranvir is in a live-in relationship. The book is a sweet and simple, straightforward love story to pick up with a hot cup of cocoa. Looking for a feel good book with some drama and Indian touch, then this is the book.

I felt that the book was not ended properly. It was rushed and could have been better. The time spent on building the chemistry between the two main characters was missing. It was rushed and alot of other things were focused on more. Overall a good one time light read.

A sweet story of two people who are attracted to each other but cannot commit because of their prior commitments.
The characters are realistic and their conversations even more so. Both Simi and Ranvir are likable characters, and so are Abhi and Deepa. I loved Simi’s relationship with her brother and also her mother.
This story is about friendships, family and work relationships. The language is simple and the story is a happy read.

A love story setup in the workplace which ends up to be a complicated one.
Simi, a clumsy girl fell in the arms (or maybe in love) of Ranvir on the very first day of her work. Later Ranvir & Simi became good friends but there were feelings from both the sides which they both couldn’t fathom.
But there was a twist in the story, Ranvir was in a 5 year old relationship and Simi was soon to be married to her childhood friend.
Will they both meet or will they end up heartbroken?

Reading this book wasn’t much fun because the story was predictable and just another typical Indian Love Story. I needed some closure on parts about what happened to Parul, Ranvir’s Girlfriend? What happened with Aayush, Simi’s brother?
The book was fast paced and I finished it within 24 hours ( quite an achievement).

Recommended for all the beginners who love reading romance genre!

A forbidden office romance is perhaps one of the most interesting premise when it comes to a rom-com. However, to make it truly stand out you need characters that are fleshed out and have impeccable chemistry together and yet manage to have a kind of individuality that makes you root for them separately as much as together.

Strictly at Work has all the elements that could have made this book work perfectly but the end result was messy where all the segments instead of complimenting each other, ended up overlapping.

Ranvir and Simi find themselves being attracted to each other even though they are ought to be committed to their respective partners. As, Ranvir has been in a live in relationship for almost five years and Simi is being pushed into an arrange marriage. Even though I was able to sympathize with Simi because of how she was being forced with someone she didn't even like. I didn't like how Ranvir's relationship was handled.

People fall out of love and I'd have loved it better if this book explored that aspect of human relationships with a positive approach rather than rushing the love story between the main couple.

It didn't surprise me because the characters weren't developed out of this relationship so it was hard for me to relate to them and understand their motivations.

The families of the characters were majorly involved in their story to add some drama to the mix but it just made things more cluttered leaving little to no space for development.

That being said, it lives up to it's promise of being a breezy entertaining read.

Overall, I think it could've been better but I can see the appeal and I think many people will actually like the book. It just wasn't my cup of tea.

When you put together a workplace romance in a co-working space where finance meets marketing, and mix in a bag of friends, dating troubles, office parties, meets at the food court, matchmaking, live-in relationships, and family drama, you have a fun, delicious, drool-worthy romcom called Strictly At Work that's all about love, relationships, and the choices we make that define who we are and who/what we're drawn to in life.

I had a heck of a lot of fun writing this book. I do hope you enjoy it too! :)

I believe I picked up Strictly at Work at the perfect time—just when I needed a break from the emotionally heavy and mentally exhausting reads I'd been immersed in. This book felt like a breath of fresh air, a gentle reminder that love stories don’t always have to be grand or dramatic to be deeply moving.

The story follows Simi, a spirited marketing professional at a furniture company, and Ranvir, a thoughtful analyst at a finance startup. Their paths cross in BizWorks, a bustling co-working space in Bengaluru. As their interactions become more frequent, an undeniable spark ignites between them. However, both are entangled in personal commitments—Simi faces pressure from her family to pursue an arranged marriage, while Ranvir is in a long-term live-in relationship. Amidst these complexities, they must decide whether to remain just colleagues or embrace the possibility of something more.

What made this book even more captivating was the deliciously slow-burn romance. It’s the kind that unfolds gradually, with soft moments, growing tension, and emotional depth that kept me hooked until the very end. The buildup felt natural and real, making their connection all the more satisfying.

I also appreciated how the book brought in meaningful subplots that added richness without overwhelming the main story. The portrayal of Simi’s brother Ayush and his queer relationship was heartwarming and handled with quiet respect. Ranvir’s sister’s journey—leaving an unhappy marriage after a moment of violence and finding the courage to start over—was equally moving and empowering.

Sudha Nair’s writing shines in its simplicity. There’s nothing extravagant about the plot—no whirlwind romances or dramatic twists—just two ordinary people navigating life and slowly, sweetly falling in love. And perhaps that’s what makes this story so special: its relatability. It's easy to see parts of yourself in the characters, to feel their hesitations, joys, and quiet moments of connection.

The story is soft, romantic, and grounded in reality. It doesn’t try too hard to impress; it just tells a beautiful, honest tale—and sometimes, that’s exactly what a reader needs. For its subtle charm, emotional authenticity, and sheer relatability, I happily give this book 4 stars.

After this lovely read, I know that whenever I’m in need of something refreshing and heartfelt, I’ll definitely be looking forward to picking up more of Sudha Nair’s books.

Ranvir works at a Finance startup as an analyst and Simi works at a furniture company ‘Fintura’ in the marketing department. As Simi is elated to move to the new co-working space Bizworks, she bumps into Ranvir on her first day at the new office. As Simi’s best friend Deepa starts dating Ranvir’s friend Abhi, they four keep meeting for lunch and snack breaks.

Ranvir is in a live-in relationship from five years with his college-mate Parul, while Simi is being prodded by her family to marry Karan, Simi’s family friend. The attraction is mutual between Simi and Ranvir, though they are also aware that they are committed to their respective partners. Will Simi and Ranvir realize their true feelings for each other forms the rest of the story.

The concept of love blossoming between strangers at a co-working space is fresh and makes for a good backdrop. For all of us missing our workplace, the gossip and daily fun associated with it for the past year, this story will bring in warm memories and nostalgia. Both Simi and Ranvir are characters that are relatable, real and contemporary. Even the extended traits and hobbies of the characters like crocheting and doodling are well woven into the narrative.

The inclusion of families of the protagonists makes the story a wholesome entertainer while touching on how our decisions often are influenced by our immediate family, their support or lack of it. I would have loved more of Parul, beyond her constantly planning for a holiday. This is my fourth book from the author Sudha and though all are love stories, I love how each has a different backdrop.

All love stories generally have few options for an ending, hence the narration takes the center stage; the first half is fun and establishes the characters, while the second half caters to the emotions. Pick this one for a breezy, entertaining read, especially if you prefer contemporary love stories.

I would have hated it had it been some other time and space of mind. But knowing that I wouldn't like it much, I picked it up because I was in dire need for some romantic comedy in my life. So even if I didn't like it much, I couldn't hate it either.

Simi is a typical Indian daughter working as a marketeer for a furniture company. Ranvir is an analyst at a finance startup. Ofcourse they weren't meant to meet given their totally different job roles and companies they work for -but - they DID MEET - IN A VERY BOLLYWOOD STYLE (falling in the arms, dupatta stuck in his watch, spilling coffee and all of that)

Simi's company has just shifted to Bizworks, a very expensive looking co-working space. At the very first day, she appeared at the workplace looking like a mess. To add to her misery, her charger stopped working. That's when Simi spotted Ranvir and borrowed his charger. Oh how a charger can play an important part in your love life!

As circumstances brought them together, they realised there's a spark- a connection- an attraction they can't seem to ignore. Alas that Simi was being forced into an arranged marriage with a childhood friend (or foe). Ranvir on the other hand was in a live-in relationship with his girlfriend. What follows next is quite a predictable ending but with cute little twists along the way.

My views:

What I loved?Cute romance/attraction/sexual tension

What I hated? How Parul and Karan were kicked out of the story just when it was convenient *inserts face palm* Like, why? Why did it take Ranvir 5 years to figure out that he is actually not happy in the relationship? And that Parul was actually a b***h? I mean, why had he fell out of love just as soon as he met Simi? I did sympathize with Simi when she was being pushed into liking Karan when none of them were interested. But what took her so long to figure out Karan is just an a**h*** with a primitive mindset? I mean, when he insulted Simi's brother about his sexuality, Simi should have kicked him out then and there. I clearly didn't like her as the protagonist. The ending was very obvious. Infact the whole story was pretty much predictable. But like I said, it was a guilty pleasure at that moment. Had it been not, I would have given if a 2 star.

“Life is always as it is meant to be, and it teaches you something even if it doesn’t feel like it in the moment” - pg. 252

This is was such a sweet workplace romance. It was fast paced, so I finished it in a few days. I loved the small chapters since I feel that it makes easier for me to read in parts.

The story follows Ranvir who is an analyst for a finance startup and Simi, a marketeer for a furniture company. Simi bumps into Ranvir the first day that she moves to a co-working space called BizWorks. Simi’s bestfriend Deepa starts dating Ranvir’s bestfriend, Abhi, and the lives of the four get intertwined. All’s well for Ranvir and Simi, right? But Ranvir is uncertain in a five year old live-in relationship, and Simi is being pushed into an arranged marriage with a guy she doesn’t like.

The language is simple and easy to read. All the characters were pretty likeable, well developed and portrayed. The conversations that took place in the whole book were realistic. There are moments that will make your heart flutter.
The concept of two people falling in love in a workplace backdrop is fresh and the author did a great job building up the tension until the end.

I liked Simi’s and Ranvir’s relationship to their respective families. The side plot including Simi’s brother was a nice addition too.
An absolute mood booster, this one will leave you with a satisfied feeling. :)

Overall, if you like a simple love story with a touch of family drama, easy language and narration, this one’s for you!

I love reading work place romances and currently I would love to dive myself into Romantic or Young adult books because I am just getting off my long reading slump.

Strictly at work is mainly about two protagonists who while struggling in life with their current partner situations fall in love with each other. Simi who is in marketing department of a furniture company works in the same co-working space shared by Ranvir who is a analyst at a finance start-up. Being forced to be married to someone Simi has never liked, she finds herself attracted to Ranvir only to find that Ranvir has been in a live-in relationship with his girlfriend for years. Ranvir who seems unhappy with his girlfriend finds himself falling for the simple and sweet Simi. In the midst of liking each other but being stuck with different partners, they team up together as a match maker for their friends.

The story is predictable yet soft and on-going. It’s kept light and yet it brings you on the crunch in some places where you find yourself rooting for these characters togetherness. There were some places where the grammatical errors were evident as well as a scene was repeated from both Simi’s and Ranvir’s perspective which only led towards lengthening of the story. At one point, the name of the character Karan’s Mother Bhavna was changed into Babita at the end and it was really confusing, an error which truly needs to be rectified. Otherwise, it was a breezy read.

As said, Strictly at work is truly a story about love, relationships and defining choices.

'Strictly At Work' by Sudha Nair is an Indian Rom-Com.

Simi, works at a furniture company in marketing department along with her best friend Deepa. Their office (situated close to Simi's house) is stuffy and uncomfortable, so they are transferred to a new office at Bizworks.

Ranvir, works at Bizworks too but in different company - Fintura along with his best friend Abhi. Ranvir lives with his girlfriend in living relationship.

At Bizworks, they all (Ranvir, Simi, Deepa & Abhi) bump into each other. With time they become good friends.

Simi & Ranvir knew Deepa & Abhi had feelings for each other but no one wanna confess or take one step ahead. So they (Simi & Ranvir) came up with a plan of bringing them together.

Simi want to be with Ranvir (Ranvir too has feelings for her) but he is committed and unfortunately she is soon going to marry Karan (Arrange Marriage)💔

Will their plan of bringing Deepa & Abhi succeed? Will Simi & Ranvir end up together or will be left with regrets only..?

🄼🅈 🅅🄸🄴🅆🅂 - I love the plot and the Indian Culture, Tradition, Songs (DDLJ), etc feom the book. The author has talk about Indian weddings and Festival, which made me visualize the scenes. The part which I loved from the book was the scenes from Holi. Also, the author has talk about women empowerment like how a woman follows her passion, knowing her worth and doing what she desires over just tolerating domestic violence. Apart from that i loved how it ended.

I recommend this book to the everyone especially the readers who love reading Romcoms. I bet you will love the way it ends😍🤍

Book 84 of 2023 - Strictly at Work by Sudha Nair - A monsoon workplace romance filled with family hijinks and expectations

Indian romance books have always been my guilty pleasure, so picked this up when the world around me closed up on me a bit as I needed a mood boost.

A few things I love about this book:

The plot, the story movement was stunning, with the rainy weather making it a perfect read to pick up in this weather.

This book brought back a lot of nostalgia too, reminding me of older days looking at the relationship between Ammamma and grandkids.

The workplace ambience was another stunning interlude to the whole story, with the chemistry of the characters mixed, making it a fun read too.

This book was filled with family love, but there were new age changes too. I loved the way those changes were handled unlike in those olden days, where every small change had to be a fight. Here every problem was dealt with a mixed approach - understanding and intentions behind it.

The romance between Simi and Ranbir was built up very naturally, that it wasn't mixed up with the need to run away from other unsolved problems. Even if there were few problems mixed in, they were dealt with maturity, that I loved the book even more. I got hooked on the story more as I kept reading.

All in all, a really beautiful book. I would recommend this book to everyone. Sudha Nair has been a favorite of mine since Wedding Tamasha, looking forward to reading more books from her.

Rom-coms are like a breath of fresh air, bringing a gush of emotions. Occasionally, I like to indulge in rom-coms, for a change of mind and this time I wasn’t satisfied with my experience. Strictly At Work, is a story about two individuals (primarily) Ranvir and Simi who meet at the swanky co-working space BizWorks (a dream working space!) While both of them meet by chance, initially, they end up meeting regularly developing feelings for each other while being in relationships (a perfect arranged marriage and a live-in relationship).

The book is based on their endearing encounters which bring them close and realise they true feelings. The story has a few supporting characters which could’ve added value to it, if they were described a bit more in detail as the author tries to bring “a sense of identity and self-worth” through their presence and circumstances.

The writing is lucid and flows abruptly at wrong times which made the book a bit boring for me. I would have loved to read detailed character arcs for the supporting characters and well crafted situations which would highlight “love” in a mature yet light hearted manner, I found unnecessary detailing, a bit tiresome, it felt like the story was aimed to “have-it-all” making everything a bit typical.

This one was a one time read for me, I hope it works for all those who read it.

Simi, a marketing professional for a furniture company and Ranvir, a finance strategist for a fintech startup, meet at a co-working space through the most unexpected circumstances. As their lives get intertwined, they start falling for each other. Sounds like a perfect love story, right? To complicate the situation, Simi is undergoing the process of arrange marriage while Ranvir is juggling a, rather toxic, live-in relationship.

📝
The plot was well paced, uncomplicated, a little clichéd and predictable at times yet engaging from the start. I liked the way the author built up the storyline, specially with background stories involving the personal lives of both the protagonists and their families, making it quite relatable. Said that, I feel the ending was abrupt as the expectations were raised throughout the book.

It was an easy read as the language was very simple. The narration was smooth and was able to capture every emotion really well. The characters were well developed. The author smartly used the friends of Ranvir and Simi to give a humorous touch throughout but there was more scope for Simi's marriage prospect in the storyline.

On the whole, this is a good light read for beginners and those who like romance.

This cute book is a story about Simi , a clumsy, old school girl in the modern world who loves hers friends, family and loves to crochet in her free time.

On the other hand we have Ranvir who is every girl's dream guy, he cooks because he finds it theraupatic, he lives with his long term girlfriend and is sincere with his work and relationship.

Both met at workspace which deals with all kinds of business and they became friends from small events that make them come closer, whether its Abhi and Deepa or there family dynamics where they suggest each other good advice. Things got changed when Karan, parents who are Simi parents friends want there child got married to each other but Simi doesn't like it things were not good from start because Karan was prejudice and proudy guy and considered himself superior to other, but Simi brother love life came to light, real colours of the family shown and they break the wedding on the other hand Ranvir sister condition change him and so does his broken relationship.

With all the mess they found each other and there shy, unconventional love found a way for both and it was a happy ending for everyday. The story was slow and dragged a bit, writing was easy to read and cute read

A good rom-com will sometimes help me to relax a bit with light reading in between heavy novels. In that way, Strictly At Work helped me take a break from feeling overwhelmed with everything around me.

This is a typical Indian romance novel with two people falling in love but not accepting it until a third person or even a fourth person is involved and then everything messes up altogether. A complicated triangle love story with fun moments, meaningful family bonding, and a little bit too many cringe moments. A big red flag was the fact that the male love interest already is in a live-in relationship with his girlfriend and then when he meets this cute yet messy girl, he plays the victim card and somehow things end up in a way that the girlfriend becomes the villain and leave these love birds without knowing she deserves more.

The plots were too predictable and fell flat but still I kind of enjoyed the lightness of reading it with some lovely moments here and there.

This is a romantic love story of Simi and Ranvir with a lot of twists happening throughout. Set in a metro city, both Simi and Ranvir are workaholics who happen to fall in love while the universe conspired something else. Along with them we also have Zoya and Karan's love story which also has a lot of barriers because of their parents. But it is often said, alls well that ends well. So, here all the characters meet a happy ending and that's what makes this book a must-read.

The plot is interesting and carries one forward with the flow. The author has successfully addressed the issues like the search for 'the right guy' when it comes to weddings, the work culture at offices these days and the mentality of society and family when it comes to weddings. Engaging story with interesting real-life characters is how I would describe the book.
Recommend for all the people who enjoy reading contemporary books with a little romance.

Simi is a marketer for a furniture company, and Ranbir is an analyst at a finance startup. When Simi's company moves to a co-working place, she didn't know borrowing a charger would lead her to developing feelings for a guy. While Simi's family is pushing for an arranged marriage, Ranbir is in a live-in relationship. When their paths cross, sparks fly, guilty touches follow, and read the book to know how it ends. Will Simi say yes to the arranged marriage and live happily ever after? Or will they both find the courage to go for what they want?

The story also portrays a strong friendship between the co-workers. The story will definitely give you subtle hints to fall in love with the Bangalore city. It is a workplace romance and also has a coming-out-as-gay trope.

Overall, it is a quick read which can be read in one sitting. It is my first time reading this author, and I'm looking forward to reading more.

Sudha Nair is a versatile author. She can write about various topics and characters. One of the reasons that I could relate to this book is because of the Character Simi. Some of the things she wanted in a relationship are similar to what I had imagined. Destiny is what brought Ranvir and her together. He was the perfect gentleman even though many may say that cheating is not called for. Even though we may be in a relationship with one person, our priorities and interests change which causes hardship and make us confused. At the end of the day, love, respect, and a beautiful heart are what matter. Deepa, Abhi, Parul, Ayush, Simi's Parents, and Ranvir's father and sister are all very different characters. There will be something about each one of them that you will like a lot. I would recommend this book to anyone who feels like reading something sweet and chic.

When I am in mood to read Indian fiction rom-com books, the first person who comes to mind is Sudha Nair.
Sudha Nair's lighthearted romantic comedy "Strictly At Work" is set in a co-working environment. Ranbir works as a financial analyst at a start-up, while Simi is a marketer for a furniture company.

Simi and Ranvir both work at BizWorks, a co-working environment where their paths cross, and chemistry begins to develop. Now, Simi is being coerced into an arranged marriage with Karan, a man she doesn't even like. On the other hand, Ranvir is living with his girlfriend, who he met in college.

All the characters in the book are adorable, and the story gets predictable toward the second half... and I love how Ayush's (Simi's brother) life plays a subtle role throughout the story.

Go grab a cup of coffee/tea/hot chocolate and enjoy reading this rom-com.

Thoroughly enjoyed the book. Everyone of us, current generation who are working in this culture, can relate to it. Author has woven a good tale involving family and friends. All the characters are someone we would have come across or some even our friends or relatives. Even if we know that it's a HEA, the path leading to it also important. Author has done the job well by keeping up the flow without any boredom.

Author is one of my favorites and she hasn't disappointed me in this book too. Look forward to many such books. Best wishes for a successful future.

A very normal cliche romance story. Predictable story line with nothing exciting happening anywhere throughout the story. Even though contemporary social issues were tried to be addressed , i felt like they were there just for filling some space.

Breakups happen when you fall for another person, that is okay, but glorifying that and accusing the other person for the breakup made me irk. Somewhere something was missing in the whole story.

Just a breezy read.

I’d give this book a rating of 2.5 on 5.

It was full of clichés and it’s a very normal story. It had a lot of elements that can be easily predicted. It wasn’t really an entertaining read even though it’s an easy one to read. The writing too was not really great. It was very basic.
And the title of the book doesn’t justify the story.

Overall, it was a boring read. You can pick it up if you just want to pass time with a light read.
