Promise Me #1

Promise Maker

Rate this book
SOLARI BRIGHAM
I met him as a little girl, then again at sixteen.
He made me a promise, and my heart believed.
But he’d lied.
Just when I’m about to move on, the unthinkable happens, and I’m left terrified with nowhere to turn.
Desperate for safety, the only one able to protect me is the one person who didn’t keep his promise years ago.

DOMENICO MARTELLI
The bringer of death.
That is what they call me.
So it is understandable why Solari shouldn’t be with a man like me.
Though difficult, I was willing to stay away and continue watching her from afar.
Then tragedy hits, and the first one she calls is me.

In my world, power and brutality intertwine.
The kind of violence Solari never imagined.
When she learns what happened two years ago, will she accept me despite my dark side?

Note: This isn't a bully romance. It is adult interracial romance with some mature language and scenes.

So this is one of my go to authors because I always appreciate how honest the relationship is between her characters. I also like the fact that her characters are clear that they want to be together. This book was a departure from her usual H/h relationships.

The story is about Nico and Solari, Nico makes a promise to 16 year old Solari that he’ll come back for her in 6 years and marry her. Eight years later Nico never comes and Solari life is in danger and needs Nico and his family’s protection. That’s the gist of the story but most of the plot is centered around Solari being hot and cold regarding her feelings for Nico. She’s not a very likable character due to her wishy washy feelings and sheltered upbringing.

She was willing to give up her whole life after meeting him one time as a 16 year old but when he finally asks for her hand in marriage she’s reluctant because they don’t know each other well??? It didn’t make any sense. This is a slow burn romance but has heat towards the end of the story and the characters have great chemistry.

While the book doesn’t end on a cliffhanger, there will be a part 2 released next month. This book doesn’t spend much time on them actually being a couple and we don’t get to see Solari’s character mature. She’s in her mid twenties but operates like an emotional teenager due to her lack of experience. I’m looking forward to reading the conclusion of these characters and seeing Solari's character grow.

::: SPOILER-FREE REVIEW :::

Rating: 5 STARS ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I absolutely loved this book. The title totally stunning…everything about this story is in some way summed up in that title!

It’s Godfather & Cinderella!!
It’s thought-provoking.
It’s about love.
It’s about loss.
It’s about the mafia.
It’s about promises.
It’s about sacrifices.
It’s about heartbreak

Even after a few days, I am still thinking about the story, the writing and the characters. This is really a love story between two people with totally different lives that are thrown together by, I guess, fate.

Solari's father was involved in some really messed up stuff. He tried to shelter his daughter from the ugly side of his life. When he gets murdered by an enemy, Solari needs protection and calls the only person she knows, Domenico.

The characters are so human and believable. You get pulled into their lives and see the good and bad sides of them and the struggles they go through.

I loved this book so much. I just kept turning page after page…..you know the kind of book you never want it to end but you so want to know the ending? This is was one of those.

Passion and desire. Love and lust. Pleasure and pain. Want. Need. Utterly CONSUMED.

The sexy scenes in this book were well written and off the charts hot. 🔥🔥

What I also enjoyed about this book is how I never knew where the story was going. Who were the real good and bad guys? Would Solari & Domenico find happiness together?

I'd definitely recommend this book. Its definitely worth a read!

This is somewhat in the mafia genre with quite some small but beautiful Italian dialogues.

--> Recommended for readers who want Mafia but not the darkness (there is a tiny bit but not in detail) and who want romance and passion. <--

Solari has been sheltered by her father from the blood and cries. After her father's murder she is exposed and in demand by enemies. Turning for help towards the man she'd been waiting for six years, who never came for her is the only way to protect herself.

Solari and Domenico are fire together! Damnn🔥🔥 The yearning between the two was noticeable and I liked that the major part of the issue was easily solved.

This book took a turn for the good and I'm really happy I decided to read till the end.

Domenico is such a romantic, aaah! The way he courted her, brought the chemistry out and showed his love was all really amazing! He's been in this life since he was a child and even after years, the bloodshed disturbs him in his thoughts.

Solari was a bit annoying at some parts of the story but luckily at the end she did become smarter. She's the fresh air for Domenic.

I liked how we got to see the connection growing and how it wasn't easy for either of the main characters. There isn't anything really new but at the same time it isn't boring. A part of the mystery is revealed very early but the story progressed on a smooth pace.

Didn’t Finish!!

I got through about 50% of the book and couldn’t go anymore. I hate hate hate stopping in the middle of a book. But Solara’s naivety and lack of understanding I just couldn’t do it! If people are shooting at you or are even threats to your family what were they supposed to do?? I wanted to like this book and was rooting for the the two mc’s but i’ ll never know their ending.

Before I dive in thank you Symone for reaching out, I always love to support my indie author community when I can, so it was a pleasure to dive into your read!

As a huge lover of Mafia romances, it was fun to dive into something new and a little different.

Solari and Domenico Martelli made a promise to each other years ago, vowing that when he returns years later they will be together and wed. However when that day arrives and he isn't anywhere to be seen...only for 2 years further to pass by Solari loses hope of ever seeing him again.

Yet when tradegy strikes and Solari is told she can only trust Domenico it leaves her falling back into his arms if only for security.

They both battle fighting their feels to uphold a promise, however it's hard to do so when they have been waiting years for this reunion and secrets kept them apart.

There is the Mafia touch of action and drama, along with a beautiful love story that brings together the aching pain of wanting someone yet not being able to have them if only for those reasons in the back of your mind.

Despite all they defeat the odds and secrets and truths unveil in the only way Mafia romances can - much dramatic effect - however it leads to a happy ending that is well deserved.

I enjoyed the story and if you're looking for something you can binge that has some drama, romance and a tug of war that leads to many rolls in the sheets, then this is for you!

Firstly thank you to Symone for reaching out and providing an ARC copy in exchange for an honest review...

Promise Maker is an interracial mafia romance, one witb plenty of angst, action and spice!

Domenico made a promise to Solari when she was 16 that he would come back for her but he didnt, now with nowhere else to turn to Domenico is the only one who can protect her.... because of this there is a kind of slow burn, push and pull between them and i really enjoyed the growing connection between them.
Solari's father sheltered her from the mafia world and Domenico is known as the bringer of death.. Solari's innocence and pureness with Domenicos darkness and bruality makes for a great romance!

I really enjoyed this book, the characters were great, there was plenty of angst, very spicy scenes and heart racing mafia action.

"I hope I'm rooted in her soul, haunting her the way she haunts me."
⭐⭐⭐⭐ Heart Racing Stars

Promise Maker is a thrilling interracial mafia romance that you devour in one go. It is an action-packed, suspenseful, heart-racing and delightfully sinful book.

The book is spoken in dual perspective, and it captivated me from the first page.
In this story, we meet Solari and Domenico. They live entirely different lives. Solari is sweet, innocent, naive and untouched by the organized crime world. Domenico is vicious, hot-tempered and threatening and grew up in a world of kill or be killed. Aren't they perfect for each other😏🤩

So, in Promise Maker, Solari's father is involved in illegal things and tried to keep the ugly side of his life from her. When he is murdered by an enemy and betrayed by someone close to him, Solari needs protection and calls the only person she knows, Domenico.

Well, Domenico makes a promise to protect Solari, but she has a hard time believing him considering he did not keep the first one. You know that saying [Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.] You can't fault the girl!

"Martelli will find a way. They don't just make promises. They keep them."

The question is, can Solari deal with a violent, brutal, murderous man like Domenico.

I really enjoyed reading this book. The intensity and passion of the characters🥵 . Solari is trying to cope with the death of her father and the threat to her life, and Domenico's need for Solari to see what lies beneath his darkness all creates an unputdownable read which I crave and love.

"There's a magnetic pull. A raging fire beneath my flesh. Agonizing hunger."

These two were perfect for each other. Solari's lightness and innocence and Domenico's darkness and brutality made for the perfect blend of romance. If you enjoy Bad Boy / Good Girl Romances, Mafia Romances, or Steamy Romantic Suspense books, Promise Maker is for you.

ARC received in exchange for my honest review.

4.5 Stars. (BW/WM). Kindle Unlimited Edition e-book. Italian Mafia Romance. The hero, Domanico "Nico" Montelli, is the a third generation Italian Mafia boss whose duties often require him to commit acts of violence and murder. The father of the heroine is ex-mafia and best friend of Nico's father. Solari Brigham, is aware of her father's connection to the Montelli family; but has been sheltered from the particulars of that life. Nico first meets and falls for Solari when she is ten and he is twelve; the next time they meet, Solari is sixteen and Nico promises to return in eight years and take her back to Italy and marry her. Eight years later, he returns with his father but does not acknowledge his promise. A few days later, a Montelli rival attacks and kills Solari's father but she is rescued by Nico and taken back to Italy with him. This is an interesting and enjoyable book, the storyline fluidly moves along, the characters are well developed and the author developes Nico's and Solari's romance and sexual chemistry on page via the characters interactions and dialogue. There is action and intrigue; however, the romance between Nico and Solari takes center stage and is not overshadowed by mafia business. Solari is a virgin and has saved herself for the promise of marriage made by Nico and Nico has obtained from sex with any other woman from the time that he made Solari that promise to return for her. This book concludes with Nico and Solari surviving an attack made at Nico's estate during their honeymoon.

Promise Maker by Symone West was an action, emotions and passion packed interracial mafia romance. It had the heat and adrenaline rush of a good mafia romance along with an alpha antihero and a heroine who is equally sweet and sassy.

Solari was given a promise by Dominico Martelli at age of sixteen that was never fulfilled. Eight years later her life exploded and before dying, her father asked her to contact his best friend the Martellis for protection. Dominico has a reason not to fulfill his old promise but now he has a new promise. To protect her. To have her. And to never let her go. But will Solari want a man with darkness and violence?

My sole reason for picking up this ARC was the cover! I love that the characters are all mature by the time the real story starts. I feel for Solari's pain and confusion. She lost her father, enemies are after her life and their business and she has been taken to Italy away from her regular life in USA. She is angry. Frustrated. But her heart is still beating for the man she waited for. I love how she resists and pushes back and reacts fiercely to Dominico. Now Nico is your typical alpha mafia heir and then he is not. He leads a life full of violence and brutality and he definitely has a ruthless side. He can be deviously charming and persuasive and I loved how he was at same time controlling and nourishing with Solari. He wants to control his darkness and Solaris helps him. There were definite struggles and battles but they soon crossed the line of hate to love. The chemistry was quite filthy and if you love dirty talking alphas with dirty ways, you will definitely love Nico!

Promise Maker by Symone West was a beautifully written mafia romance. You get all the drama and feels and then some more.

I love love love finally reading a multicultural mafia romance!! It’s very rare to see a woman of color as the female lead in a Italian mafia world. Solari, our female lead, is a brown-skinned, curly haired goddess. I love the dynamic between her and Dominico (the male lead), they make a really good match and the chemistry is off the charts.

Solari is a great character, strong, and independent. I did find her to be a bit naive with her expectations of Dominico knowing he’s a mafioso. But other than that, I really like her. And her internal monologue is hilarious!!

As for Dominico, he’s devotion to Solari is admirable. Even when she puts up walls between them he doesn’t give up. He would literally kill for her, even when she expressed how much she hates that he kills and how it affects him. The plot is well developed, the idea that Dominico promised they’ll marry six years in the future (not a spoiler, it literally happens at the beginning of the novel lol) got me so intrigued! The mafia world was well developed too, it felt quite authentic.

It was a great ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ read! A sexy, fun and fast mafia romance book 📚

Frustrating

I enjoyed how Dominico and his family were written however the book was very hard to enjoy at times because of Solari. She was painted as an entitled naive brat. First of all, her father was wrong. He thought he was giving her a peaceful life when all he did was giving her a fantasy. He was a gangster at some point who now owns a shipping yard so even if he went legal, his daughter was always vulnerable. He should have been more honest and taught her how to defend herself. As it was she was a damsel in distress. Second of all, she kept saying how Nico didn’t fulfill his promise but neither did she. She didn’t learn Italian. Lastly her refusal to come to terms with her father’s violent death, Matthew’s betrayal and the need for Nico to be violent at times was irritating given how she was in a life or death situation. With her know it all attitude she caused Nico’s driver and other men’s death.
Shame I would have really enjoyed an empowered heroine, even if she was very young.

Thank you Symone West for reaching out to me! I absolutely love mafia romances and I hadn't read one in forever. I just want to start by saying how much I love Domenico. Total book boyfriend material! I haven't found me one of those in forever.

The chemistry between Domenico and Solari was just incredible. No matter how many walls Solari built, Domenico just wouldn't give up. She took time to come around with some things but Domenico never gave up on her. Solari was definitely a strong, beautiful character, which I absolutely loved!

This is definitely a lighter read than I'm used to but I loved it! But, Domenico has a darkness to him that I absolutely fall for! Every. Single. Time. I was provided an ARC for an honest review. This review is based off my opinion and mine alone.

Solari meets Domenico as an 8 year old girl. Then again at 16 where he tells her to wait for him and he will come back and marry her. At 24, Domenico has missed the deadline by 2 years and Solari is mad because she waited for him.

Then he father is killed and before he dies he tells her to go to Domenico’s family they will protect her. And that’s how the story begins.

Romantic tropes:
- BWWM
- Dark mafia romance
- age gap

Halfway through the book I was exasperated by Solari’s innocence. She put herself in unnecessary situations because she wouldn’t listen to Domenico. Also I wouldn’t call their story a HEA mostly just a lead in to Book 2.

Found this author on Instagram. Read the book on my Kindle App from Kindle Unlimited.

I love a mafia romance and this one was spicy.

When she is 16, Domenico promises to return and take Solari away and marry her but he never returns when promised. Just when she thinks he forgot about her he pops back into her life.
Solari had her damsel moments where she seemed to be a bit nieve but it worked for her. Domenico is a total alpha and will protect her at all costs.
This book was fast paced and the connection the two characters have grows no matter how many times Solari puts up her walls. You are pulled into the storyline and feel like you can't read fast enough to find out how it ends.

Great story

Domenico and Solari were an interesting couple. I didn't understand why Solari was so ill-prepared for Dom's world. Her father lived the life. He associated with the life. Yet, she was clueless. She made dumb moves. She didn't listen. She did nothing to prepare herself. I wanted her to be stronger and better equipped to protect herself. Instead, she was the lamb waiting to go to the slaughter.
Domenico bordered on a crazed stalker. His life and obsession put him in a dark place. His dark gangster demeanor made him hot AF. Add that he was the enforcer for his family. The second hot button checked. Yet he seemed confused about what he wanted. Did he want to be dark and deadly? Did he want to be a normal, sweet loving guy? I guess every Enforcer thinks about walking away at some point.
Overall it held my attention till the end. There is a sequel. I haven't decided if I'm going to read it.

This was my second read by this author. Better the second time. Happy reading 📖!

Promises

I fell in love with Solari and Domenico. Their chemistry was fueled by their intense passion for each other, and the solace they only seemed to find in each other’s presence.

Upon her fathers wishes Domenico attempts to fight the pull, but every moment with Solari only solidifies a feeling he’s failing to fight. Solari has only known one life, and it’s not the type that Domenico leads.

Their meeting in the garden is where it all begins and as we watch time go by we watch walls beings put and obstacles trying to prevent their love.

Shucks

If Solari wasn't crying, she was horny. I don't know if I can read another one of these killing book. There is really no story here, just killing and sex, or talking about it. You want us to believe that Demenico (a fine specimen of a man), didn't have sex in eight years? Get real. I know its just a story, but write the truth. You mean he learned all that kinky stuff by osmosis? Sorry this is going to be flagged. I had learned not to write some things, but this one was hard not to write a PG review

Pretty Good Stuff

When first reading this I thought ,well we are getting somewhat of an old fashioned romance. We in fact get a little of that, some modern and little bit of gangster. The main character the hero Demenico, you like that he doesn't mince words and he is just as overcome with this attraction and admits it. The writer gives somewhat of a convincing story, but would have loved for this couple to have ventured more into his world. Overall you get a little bit of everything and you will love the sexiness of it all.

Promises, Promises

Domenico met Solari when they were children and even then, eight year old Solari had a big impact on ten year old Domenico. Eight years later, Domenico and Solari meet again and this time, smitten Nico makes a promise to come back in six years when he will then whisk her away to his homeland and make her his wife. Eight years later, Solari has not seen or heard from Nico, and she is pissed! Then tragedy strikes, and now Nico is the only one that she can count on!

It's sad 😔 what happen to Solari. Nico had to keep his promise 😤 with her dad even through he wanted to keep his to Solari. I'm glad they were able to ger Luca. He would have just done evil and Matthew as well he wanted power 🔋 and never got it since he betrayed his suppose friend. Can't wait to read the next episode 😍

Domenico was great; he was fierce, protective, loving, and loyal. Solari was a pain. Her character irked me. She lacked real world understanding and common sense at times.

DNF

I couldn’t finish it. Solari was a little too naive and sheltered for my tastes. She also didn’t have an inclination for survival. The way she constantly disregarded needed direction and got somebody killed is insane. In conclusion; she’s annoying, he’s annoying, so I’m good.

This one missed the mark for me. I just didn’t like it at all. I didn’t like the storyline or the characters. Solari and Nico just seemed disconnected and the storyline felt rushed. I almost put it in my DNF pile several times. Will not continue this series which is sad because I love this author.
