Private Investigator James Benoit Heatley, "Heat" to those few he calls friends, has a reputation for being a bit rough around the edges.
Heat's reputation for doing what he believes is just is well deserved, even if his brand of justice happens to be illegal.
His reputation for not taking women as clients is equally well deserved.
Some say there is a woman to blame and they would be right to do so.
It is with great reluctance that Heat takes the case of a wife desperate to find her kidnapped husband, a case that forces Heat to confront his bitter past.
Murder, kidnapping, and broken hearts lead Heat and his colorful friend Elijah Boucher into the swamps of south Louisiana in this modern detective story.

Science fiction and classic crime novels have long been favorites of author K.C. Sivils. A fan of past noir masters such as Dashiell Hammett and Raymond Chandler, Sivils also enjoys the current generation of storytellers like Matt Abraham, Renee Pawlish and Alex P. Berg.
The combination of film noir and science fiction in director Ridley Scott’s adaptation of Philip K. Dick’s sci-fi classic Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep into the masterful Harrison Ford vehicle Blade Runner encouraged him to consume as much of both genre’s as possible.
When not working at his real job, Sivils enjoys his family, his dogs, writing and rocking out to classic rock bands like the Rolling Stones, New Wave rockers The Cars, and the Godfathers of Punk, the Ramones.
Another great Southern Noir mystery from K. C. Sivils. 'Heat' has sound reasons for his brand of misogyny, all brought to the fore in this Houston/N.O./Baton Rouge thriller. We meet Anna and her children as she approaches Heat to request he find her missing husband, only to find out Anna is the one who got away - and broke his heart, many years ago. It takes some persuasion from people who care for him, but he does eventually take on this job against his better judgment. A very interesting tale, told with a bit of southern spice. Prequel to this series is A Matter of Vengence. I hoping for many more tales starring Heatley.
I have said it before, but I will say it again...I really do like author SIVILS take on detectives. Even if they are in space, in a office on earth or riding a train, just gimme the book! One enjoyable read, with complicated characters (my favorite) and a good story line.
Murder on a Saturday Night - a review by Rosemary Kenny
A James Benoit Heatley Crime Thriller novel by the amazing K.C.Sivils, Murder on a Saturday Night, promises entry into a superb noir crime-thriller world, that's sure to satisfy affocionados. James 'Heat' Heatley is a Houston PI, making a road-trip (under 'orders' from his receptionist, Amy), to a football game in Baton Rouge, with his pal Elijah Boucher, a suspended cop. When Heat gets a desperate call from the woman who jilted him years earlier, he's undecided if he should take on her 'missing husband' case or not. What changes his mind? What happens in the old plantation house?
A riveting tale, full of action, soul-searching, kidnap, judgement, retribution and salvation. Will Heat come through for Anna and save Becca, Katie and Boucher, without thought for himself? Find out by getting K.C.Sivils' Murder on a Saturday Night as soon as the bookstore opens - it's a 5-star winner for sure!
We meet Anna thirty eight, a movie star, having a melt down, with years to cover up physically what is going on. Nick had set the events in motion years before and now they have escalated. The worse was for Becca and Katie the two girls having been kidnapped and realizing their father was no good. Heat did the job that Anna wanted, he still was angry of why she walked away years ago. A story that touches one when children are involved, wanting to protect them, instead they were caught in it. Well done, and enjoyed it. Given ARC for my voluntary review and my honest opinion
I really liked the prequel novel to this new series. The first full book in the series definitely lives up to the promising start. The author did a great job of creating memorable characters in his futuristic noir series with Inspector Sullivan and has started equally well here doing the same.
P. I. James Heatley is a complicated man. He distrusts women but is responsible for rescuing two women from the sex trade, giving them jobs, and encouraging their futures.
What happens when the woman who broke his heart shows up to ask a terrible favor? We just might find out what makes him tick!
James Benoit Heatley aka Heat has a rule. He doesn't help women. Especially someone who broke his heart. But when Anna Deveraux comes to him and asking for help to find her husband who was kidnapped he is torn about what to do. He has two women whom he rescued from a sex trafficking ring that works for him, and they are not afraid to tell him what they think he should or shouldn't do! This story is rather sad but very entertaining. I am looking forward to the next one. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
Heat never takes a case from a woman and then he's approached by one from his past asking him for help. And the reader learns the reason for his neglecting of cases from women. In a page-turner like the best ones, he and his friend Boucher go on a chase from Houston to Louisiana to find a missing husband. And Heat has no idea what he'll do once he finds the man. A crime noir thriller in modern times as if Chandler and Hammett somehow still lived. Highly recommended!
