I really enjoyed the previous books but this didn't have any of the things I liked. There was very little dungeon diving and exploration, very little slice of life, not much leveling and it felt like it was only getting started at 85%.
Another fast fun read for the little series that...
... Turns a bit grim. Truth be told I'm surprised at the amount of work Tao Wong has been putting out. This did feel a bit rushed but it also kept its solid story and pacing in such a way that felt natural for the series. I do think perhaps the author might have had other plans for the series and now knowing that it is limited to nine books it has to feel that he called an audible. In any case the story is still fun and a fast read. It is a literally RPG but with not so much focus on the stat sheet per se. It exists it's there but we really don't see it at this point in book 7. It does remain appropriate for young adults and above.
The world building in the series feels as if it has stagnated a bit. That could possibly be because we've only seen a couple cities and a bit of a journey story in the last offering. I also feel this because the series started out with a feeling that it was going to become a massive world. Reading book 7 it does have a feeling that the author returned to the series after having decided to finish it off. Finishing up System Apocalypse, which I probably won't read, and the Thousand Li series going stong, which I absolutely love, I can see that he had too much on his plate but he did not short change the audience in keeping up with the fun here.
There have been some heavy plots despite the short nature of the stories and they seem to be coming to a head here. When I say a fast read this can easily be gone through in in three or four hours of relaxed reading. There's action plenty and a bit more intrigue here. It does feel like the first third of a story not really a full story. Still for what it is I have to give it high marks. I do think that I would have enjoyed a much more In-Depth series in this world as Wong has shown is talent at.
Fast paced page turner with interesting characters that you can instantly root for. The only problem with this series is that the books are way to short lol. I could read them forever and not be bored. I really enjoy most of this Author's books
Yet another step in the Adventures. These books seem relatively short, so progress seems quick. We meet new people, and suffer with the team. The end of the series is rushing towards us, and perhaps before the end, more goodbyes will occur.
