HOW KIDS CELEBRATE HOLIDAYS AROUND THE WORLD is an engaging picture book read about various holidays around the world. The book takes children on a guide through various celebrations from the vantage point of fictional children in each country. For instance, in Japan, Saki takes the reader on a journey through the celebration of Girls' Day, a day when families pray for little girls' health and happiness. In Russia, we learn how Tanya celebrates Easter, with traditional foods and activities. In Singapore, we join Nima who is celebrating the Buddhist holiday of Vesak. Each page spread includes an image of the celebration, surrounded by numbered boxes that call out specific celebrations shown, including foods, activities, and other key events of the holidays.
What I loved: This is a really fun look at different holidays around the world. The inclusion of a character that guides the journey through each holiday is a nice touch to bring a personal note to each page and add a bit of a storyline along the way. The breadth of countries and holidays (15) is also great with just enough detail to get the highlights of the events.
What left me wanting more: The organization of the book is not entirely clear as it hops back and forth between religions around the globe. It's not quite easy to find a holiday you might be looking for and is really a book that is designed to be used to explore more generally, rather than a resource to understand specific holiday celebrations.
Final verdict: A fun exploration of holidays across the globe, HOW KIDS CELEBRATE HOLIDAYS AROUND THE WORLD is an intriguing picture book that explains how 15 different holidays are celebrated in their related countries.

Join fifteen youngsters from around the world as they introduce you to important holidays in their countries or in their culture. From Timkat in Ethiopia to Hanukah in various Jewish households, readers will be immersed in these celebrations, learning about traditions associated with them as well as their significance and foods or practices. Each holiday is explained through colorful numbered text boxes, ranging from 1 to 9 with the numbers in the boxes corresponding with an object in the larger illustration in the center of the double-page spread. Young readers will certainly feel welcomed as they take part vicariously in these festivities and spend time with their new friends and their families. A table of contents with the heads of the smiling young hosts placed in their appropriate spot on a world map helps readers navigate the books' content while also reminding them that there are many special times for celebrating around the world, and no one does this in quite the same way. This culturally-rich book might be useful in helping youngsters learn some interesting tidbits about holidays and opening their eyes to a wider world than their own neighborhood. I had to smile at the description of the American celebration of Thanksgiving, complete with much time spent watching football on television. What on Earth does the rest of the world think of us?
Kids can have a fun and interesting chance to learn about 15 different holidays celebrated around the world in this lovely book. I enjoy this whole series and think this one is lovely. The book includes a nice map so you can see where in the world you are as you "visit" a child there and learn how they celebrate one specific holiday. Learn about Eid Al-Fitr, Easter, Purim, Carnival, the Day of the Dead and many more! Engaging and fun.

Good basic survey of global celebrations, with a map at the start to help children orient each country's holiday. Includes dominant religious holidays like Easter, Diwali, Eid Al-Adha and Purim, but also lesser known celebrations like Timka, Vesak (Singapore) and Inti Raymi (Peru).
