Having read and thoroughly enjoyed volume one of this informative series, I was quite eager to peruse the contents of the second one, billed as 101 questions and answers that were "odd and awesome" on the book's cover. And yes, the book lives up to its billing. It's just as fascinating as the other one, featuring short paragraphs that answer various questions and explore different topics as well as the "Instant Genius" and "Now You Know" features. The book uses colorful photographs and illustrations for visual attractiveness and to keep readers' attention, features that are quite effective and make it hard to resist keep turning the pages to learn more or to get the answer to the question. Among various topics explored, readers will learn about what attracts mosquitoes to some humans, the length of the Great Wall of China, where to find the tallest rollercoaster in the United States, and what it means if your cat spends time staring at you. All of this information goes down smoothly and makes readers wish the book was even longer. I hope the publisher will consider more of these since they are perfect for those who enjoy browsing or sharing snippets with family and friends as well as those who collect interesting trivia. Since the questions are on one page, followed by the answers on the next one, readers have a chance to guess at the answer, sometimes whether it's true or false but also sometimes from three different choices.

This the second volume of Bellows' cleverly structured books with a very engaging format readers can dip in and out of. Each page presents one of 101 totally random questions -- sometimes true/ false and other times multiple choice-- with the answer revealed on the next page. Like her first volume, she has selected a number of questions readers will be interested in from many different fields. Answers are explained in relatively brief descriptions. Additional inserts called Instant Genius provide additional information. The book provides excellent photographic support. Like Volume One, it would be another fun volume to have around to fill a few minutes by reading a few questions and answers. This book also begins with a detailed table of contents so you can find a question you want to explore easily and has a thorough index for locating additional information.

This book provided hours of interesting entertainment for me and my 6 year old granddaughter. She couldn't get enough of it, and after reading all of the weird and random questions we went through it again to see if we could remember what we had learned. The multiple choice format intermixed with with some True False statements makes it fun to guess and then turn the page and find out the answer along with an explanation that was accessible for young and old alike. The questions are largely science based but include a few other random topics such as the Great Wall of China, Rosa Parks, and Harry Potter. The common denominator of the questions is that format of the book with large colorful photos with the questions in bold varied type and the well-organized information is engaging for all ages. It would make a fun and educational activity to use in a classroom as well as sharing at home.

Covering a wide variety of topics, these questions and their answers are highly entertaining, usually educational, and occasionally useless but interesting. I don’t need to know if it’s illegal to have a pet rat in Alberta, Canada (it is), but it is interesting to note that “set” has 430 definitions in the Oxford English Dictionary, and no, this collection doesn’t list them! Still, kids and adults alike will be a hit on trivia night if they even remember half of what is in this book.

I'm a sucker for weird animals facts. Look no further for stats and information that will blow your mind. Adults will know many of them already but this was the perfect book to take to an elementary school visit. I read pages aloud while kids worked on their post-storytime activity.
