As if I ever could.

Stephanie Rose is a badass New Yorker, a wife, a mother, and lover of all things chocolate. Most days you'll find her trying to avoid standing on discarded LEGO or deciding which book to read next. Her debut novel, Always You, released in 2015 and since then she's written several more—some of which will never see completion—and has ideas for hundreds to come.
"One shot, one dance, then I’ll let you go. Please." Yeah, no. There would be no letting go in this book. This was my first read by Stephanie Rose, and I loved both the story and her writing, so I'll surely be coming back for more.
"Are we going to play this game?" I leaned in. "Pretending you haven’t been watching me all night the same way I’ve been watching you. Maybe you’re the one without the mirror, because you’re fucking gorgeous." I really liked Sadie. I loved how she wasn't shy about what she wanted, especially when it comes to sex. And Mason... jeez, did she ever have a shot at resisting this guy? I wouldn't have lasted as long as she did.
"The things I want to do to you," he growled. "And I’d let you. Come home with me." Mason is Sadie's best friend's brother. He used to be just a kid, but he's so much more than that now. It's not only his body that's changed, but he's flirty, charming, and swoony, so that's the whole package in my book. She literally falls into his arms, and that is the trigger for this book.
"Sometimes taking what you want can be a dangerous thing." "So, you miss me, and you want me." It was supposed to be a one-night thing, but none of them can get over it. They keep in touch, and everything about their relationship is definitely steamy but so romantic at the same time. It's obvious how they feel about each other. The dangerous bit? How do they get over the 'best friend's brother' situation? How do they deal with the fact that his job has him traveling all over the place, all the time? Can they do this?
"What I want is you, like I said, however I can get you. As long as I have you to look forward to, I can deal with the in between." When I started this book, I was only going to read a couple of chapters, and then I couldn't stop. Mason, and well, both of them, kind of sweep you off your feet. What matters is finding the right person. Everything else will just fall into place.
The Boy I Shouldn’t Want is an age gap novella from The All American Boys Series and it was so good. Sadie and Mason were amazing together. Instantly a connection and tantalizing chemistry from the moment Sadie literally fell into Mason’s arms. I enjoy a heroine who knows what she wants sexually and Sadie doesn’t disappoint. These two were on fire. Mason was just yum. A good and down to earth guy with a crush. Sadie and Mason keep their one night stand and them still having contact a secret from his sister Autumn who’s also Sadie’s best friend. That leads to a lot of stolen moments which was definitely steamy but also romantic. They do get to know each other more before Autumn finds out. A lovely slow build of communication before the bang.
The characters were fabulous and there’s an Easter egg for readers who’ve read No Vacancy. I like how the characters somehow connect throughout Rose’s other books so for me it was an added bonus. With The Boy I Shouldn’t Want Rose has yet again created a hero I’m drooling over.
Wow Baby - When I read the blurb, it ticked all my fluffy bunny, non-angst, instaloving heart. However, I did not expect Mason to be soooo HAWT.
Things I loved: You get a slice of best friend's brother - hide the relationship. Adorable and HAWT - did I tell you HAWT hero who is so very romantic. A worthy heroine who just puts everyone first.
It was fun to read and able to devour in an evening.
Who should read: Romance reader in the mood for just a fun, sexy story where the hero sweeps you off your feet. Mason is waiting.
BLURB: It was supposed to be simple—dinner with my best friend’s little brother as a favor. No big deal, right?
Wrong.

What a great story! Helping out a friend should always come with such sexy rewards! I loved Sadie and Mason. Their chemistry and charm. Their shared worries over his sister and their quiet desire to be together. Sweet moments, hot scenes, and a fast paced well rounded read! 5 gimme-what-I-want-even-if-I-shouldn't-want-it stars!

This book gave me so many happy feels!! I don't know why I am like this but whenever I see a book where the FMC is older than the MC, I automatically think I am not going to like it. Bad experiences in the past I suppose. All that has changed with The Boy I shouldn't Want because of Stephanie Rose. She didn't make it utterly cliche like it is a lot of the time and she never had that moment of well he is younger so you can't expect him to be all in forever. Give him some time to come to the conclusion that he does want her forever. Don't mistake what I am saying Sadie and Mason had their own set of problems they had to work through before they got to their happily ever after. It just wasn't that it is because he is "too young".
I adored Sadie for so many reasons, but Mason came in hot with this one, dang! I was swooning all over the place before I was even 25% into this book. He knew what he wanted, and he was not afraid to say so even if that meant keeping a secret from his sister. There was never a moment I wasn't completely all in for them.
As if I really need to say how wonderful this narration was but I will. Stella Hunter and Jason Clarke are one of my favorite duos. Over the last few months, I have heard them in several different roles, and I will always ship them together for any romance duet narration.
I never wanted this story to end but as with anything, nothing good lasts forever. Looking forward to hearing more of The All American Boys Series.
Such a great sexy, quick read! I loved Mason & Sadie! When a one night stand turns into so much more - I loved how forward Sadie was and Mason was just 😍😍😍. Read it!!
The title of this book, “The Boy I Shouldn’t Want,” makes it pretty clear that it’s is a forbidden romance. Older woman, younger man who happens to be the brother of our heroine’s best friend. But my oh my what a difference a few years makes, as the boy in the story has grown into a very sexy, swoony man!
Sadie and Autumn met in college and now live in New York in separate apartments. Autumn is devoted to her career as a nurse, and although a great friend, is not one to turn down overtime just to have fun. Sadie had met Mason, Autumn’s younger brother a few times in the past, but when her BFF asked her to take him out on the town for his birthday while he’s visiting from Chicago so that she can work, Sadie shows him more than a good time. There is no questioning will she or won’t she after she sees him again after a decade. You go girl!
What I liked best about this novella is how well the author describes their desire for one another. You truly feel the sexual tension now that Mason is 25 and Sadie is 31. He didn’t pull any punches when they went out on their first non-date, telling her exactly how he felt. Stephanie Rose does an amazing job describing their sexy times with sizzle and class, as these two had undeniable chemistry, and their one-night stand turned into so much more. The heart wants what the heart wants, and the author beautifully describes the special relationship they share and how they continued to communicate and grow closer after their night ended.
I loved how their time apart due to their jobs and living in different states helped them to reflect on what was important in life, and how when you find the right person, it’s worth the risk to take a chance and make it work. His big grand gesture to see her again had me melting, and it was rather humorous that they were still trying to keep their relationship a secret.
Mason was so vulnerable and honest with his feelings and I admired him so much. Sadie would have been a fool to pass on such a gorgeous, sweet, smart, attentive, devoted, caring man, and I laughed when she was trying to tell Autumn about her boyfriend and kept getting interrupted! Glad Autumn also took a chance and reprioritized her work-life balance to find her own HEA. This quick read is low angst with lots of feels and two romances in one!
Falling for her best friend’s younger brother is not something she planned. Nope. She thought he’d still be that lanky boy she met years ago at her college graduation. Sadie was wrong! Her and Mason were instantly attracted to one another! But now the question is can Mason get Sadie to take real chance on him? Is she willing to take that chance on him knowing it will be a long distance relationship? I greatly enjoyed these two characters. :)
Every time I get a new Stephanie Rose book to read I’m so excited! Mason and Sadie didn’t disappoint!! I loved every second of their story. I just wish, like I do every time it’s a novella, that it was longer!!
Stephanie Rose has a way of writing words that make you feel giddy. Her words make me mush and melt. Great banter and a great sex, is exactly what I need in a book.
Sadie and best friend Autumn live in New York. Autumn a nurse fills in for someone and wants Sadie to still go out for dinner with her brother Mason. (How Autumn worries for her “baby” brother is adorable) Mason works in promotions and travels for his job. He is five years younger than the beautiful, curvy, Sadie. I absolutely adore that he kinda always had a crush on Sadie. I was pretty much hooked as soon as it started.
“My friend’s baby brother grew up hot, and I’m going to have to adjust.”
When out to dinner, the sparks ignite. They are like magnets to one another & the way it is written, will make you swoon and get you hot! ***** “One shot, one dance, then I’ll let you go. Please.”
“Fucking kiss me already.”
“What are you doing?” “When you go home with a goddess, you’re suppose to worship her.”
“Be a good girl and ask for what you want.” *****
It’s a short, sweet, and spicy book. It’s a feel good book. I found Sadie so relatable how she fluffs her hair, checks herself out, how she was all boobs and butt made me smile. I liked that she made mistakes in her past, but sex in the bedroom she owned!! Mason is dreamy. He is a good, hardworking man, who loves his sister and everything she has done for him. When reading, I found myself rooting for him and loved a big gesture he did to get his girl to him.
PS. Mason proves that he is no baby, I drooled over him, and the way his 🍆bounced against stomach.
PS. If you have read No Vacancy ;) there is a little gift.
Forbidden fruit is always the sweetest. Is it because it’s forbidden, is it because it just appeals to our own taste buds or is it because people pass judgment on whatever they think and we follow and hide what we’ve tasted? I’ll tell you in this lovely story it’s because it’s just true!
I’ve never been so happy to see the age gap romance where the woman is older because it seriously happens. I’m here to tell you I can attest to it!
In this story sometimes people can’t get out of their own way. Mason is wise and mature beyond his years. He knows what and who he wants and isn’t afraid to go for it. Sadie is a little more complicated. She’s mature, established in her career and almost immediately attracted to Mason.
Although there’s nothing wrong with their developing relationship, social norms and family ties make for an uncomfortable pairing in Sadie’s mind. I can honestly see why. Sometimes it’s hard to ignore the social norms and what we put in our own way. The hardest job may be convincing ourselves even when all the chemistry is there.
This book brought all the feels, complications, heat and swoony moments. I truly enjoyed it. I also loved the secondary characters and some from past stories. This author never fails to deliver in every aspect. It’s definitely on my reread list!!
I feel so spoiled, I just read a new Stephanie Rose book and just a few weeks later I get another one!!! If you've followed my reviews for awhile you'll know that Stephanie is of my auto click authors because I know I can depend on her for a smart, sassy, fun and cool heroine and a gorgeous, strong, dedicated and sexy hero!
This is a perfect best friend's younger brother/age gap steamy romance! Sadie and Mason are amazing together and their chemistry is everything, there was none of that awkward, getting to know you stage, even though they had briefly met years ago it felt like they had new each other for years, their banter is everything, the glances, the touches, the sexual tension? I could read about them all day!!
Autumn (Sadie's bestie and Mason's big sister) was the only thing that made me nervous, Sadie decided to keep her and Mason's first encounter a secret and I was so nervous that this decision would cost her the one real friend she felt she had in her life. Especially as the encounters continued and the secret grew.
The Boy I Shouldn't Want is alluring, exciting, sultry and passionate, I couldn't put this novella down!!
The story begins with Sadie falling for Mason, as in literally falling but thank god this gorgeous specimen of a man was there to catch her. There is no denying their chemistry… there’s only one problem, he’s her best friends brother. They’re so good together that they’re worth fighting for.
📚I’d want to be gentle, but if I was lucky enough to get my hands and mouth on her, I knew I wouldn’t be.📚
With lines like that, it’s hard to want to claim Mason as a new sexy book boyfriend. By the end of the book I’m pretty sure I doused and went to book boyfriend heaven. But no surprise there because Stephanie Rose always writes the best heros.
This read is the perfect afternoon or anytime of day escape that will have you fanning yourself (especially the hotel scene🔥),laughing, and swooning hard.
The side characters are wonderful because I’m dying for more of their story too! Just saying Stephanie… I’m not above begging for more😂
The Boy I Shouldn’t Want was a best friends younger brother novella that brought all kinds of deliciousness. Sadie and Mason brought the chemistry tenfold. Right from the start you could tell they were going to be a good match from their undeniable connection. I liked their flirty banter and their easygoing nature. They were just a perfect fit.
For this being a novella it wasn’t rushed and just flowed easily. The only thing I wish was for this to have been longer because I wanted more, more, more.
*I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC of this book*
(audiobook+ebook) It isn’t easy to review a novella, because it always feels like it’s too short, or like it goes too fast. It was a bit of all of that for this book.
The characters could have been more developped. I honestly can’t remember much of their traits, as they were more functions than fleshed out people. It doesn’t mean you can’t relate to them, or at least to their situations. And their actions, while expected, were often cute or sexy. Mason has some very swoony moments, for instance.
Likewise, it goes quite fast. From a past crush, to a one night stand, to a long distance relationship, to love. In the span of a few months, while barely seeing each other most of the time. Okay, that’s not completely true, as Sadie and Mason communicate almost daily, which still feels a bit weird after just one date.
And they have the most complicated relationship. Not only Mason is Grace’s best friend’s brother, but he’s younger than her. And on top of that, they never see each other because they live on opposite sides of the country. I guess staying commited to such a relationship is a proof that they have feelings for each other. But then, both Mason’s sister and his age are quickly non issues.
It sounds like I didn’t enjoy this book, but I did. There were really good scenes between the characters. But to be honest, it’s the narration that brings it to another level. Both narrators were cast perfectly. It’s a short and entertaining listen for sure.
Quickie
- Series: standalone (but part of the All-American Boy series, and linked to other books by the author) - Hashtags: #novella #best friend’s brother #reverse age gap #one night stand - Triggers: N/A - Main couple: Sadie & Mason - Hotness: 3/5 - Romance: 4/5 - + Mason was top swoony - – fast instalove was understandable for a novella, but I’d have loved for them to have a more developped relationship
I absolutely LOVED The Boy I Shouldn't Want. Loved it! Stephanie Rose takes a familiar trope in falling for a best friend's brother and gives it a spark that makes it irresistible. As Sadie and Mason meet after some years, the electricity is potent between them and how they managed to get through a last-minute dinner is beyond me. These two were made for each other, with Mason crushing on his sister Autumn's bestie from the time he was merely a teenager. And with her in the flesh in front of him once again, that crush quickly turns into love, on both their parts.
All grown up and knowing what he wants almost immediately, the passion between him and Sadie is off the charts explosive. The fact that he travels constantly for his job and she has just gotten comfortable again in NY means distance. A lot of distance. But I loved that we find out they've been texting and calling almost daily since that incredible dinner date and that theirs is not just an affair of the physical but they truly do click in every other aspect as well.
The big reveal to Autumn is not easy and I was completely frustrated for Sadie, in particular, since she really was ready to commit to telling her everything but just couldn't find the time since her bestie finds a man of her own to have fun with during this crazy weekend together.
But in true Stephanie Rose fashion, we aren't kept waiting too long as Mason finally gets his girl for good with an epilogue that made me sigh happily. This book is truly the perfect combo of steam and tenderness with an unforgettable couple who define the word soulmate. I enjoyed reading it immensely and happily give The Boy I Shouldn't Want a big 5 stars!!!
It was supposed to be simple—dinner with my best friend’s little brother as a favor. No big deal, right?
Wrong.
That lanky boy I remember from our college graduation is nowhere to be found. When I meet him at his sister’s apartment, I’m facing a sexy, broad-shouldered, absolutely gorgeous man. And we’re supposed to spend the evening together. Maybe have a drink. And then go home. Separately.

Fast forward a few months to a trip out west to a music festival—my surprise gift for my bestie’s birthday. But apparently, this trip isn’t the only surprise this weekend.
Mason is here. He still wants more—he still wants me. His sister has no idea that her little brother and I have become…something. Something I’ve spent months running from. Something I can’t deny.
I’ve fallen for my best friend’s little brother.
But how do I make my head and my heart stop feeling like he’s the boy I shouldn’t want?
Loved Mason & Sadie's story! As you can tell from the title this is an age gap novella. Their journey wasn't an easy one, but so worth it. Lots of hot chemistry between these two. I really enjoyed their story!
In the interest of full disclosure, I’m a fan of Stephanie Rose and her work. I was not familiar with All American Boy series until Stephanie announced she was writing a book for it, so this is my first book in this series.
Having said that, I LOVED this book. Sadie and Mason’s story of falling for the best friend’s younger brother was not the typical age gap romance. As in all of Stephanie’s books, she crafts her characters so that you become invested in them and their happiness. Such is the case with Sadie and Mason. I loved their initial meeting and how the story developed along with their relationship. Mason is SWOONworthy for sure, so you can’t help but fall a little in love with him along with Sadie.
I also enjoyed how Stephanie built up the relationship between Sadie and Autumn, who is Sadie’s best friend and Mason’s older sister. I loved that their relationship was built on love and trust, and there was no animosity around Sadie having a relationship with Mason. When push came to shove, these ladies want the best from each other, and that was really refreshing.
Of course, I loved the mention of Kat and Joe from “No Vacancy”. If you haven’t read that book, do it!
I highly recommend this story. Give it a read and let it put a smile on your face like it did for me.
Part of the All-American Boys series written by multiple authors, this can be read completely as a standalone. It is written in first person from an alternating dual POV.
Sadie is a wonderful character who is intelligent, beautiful, and strong. She has been hurt in the past, but she has moved on. Mason is the younger brother of her best friend. When they are thrown together, sparks are immediate and intense. Mason is a man making his way in the world. I love how hard and fast he falls for Sadie. I love their connection, both emotional and physical. There is a lot of steam and a lot of swoons between these two. I just melted. I kept rooting for them to overcome the obstacles that threatened to keep them apart. The characters are likable and well-developed and their HEA is sweet and sexy. This is a winner, and it definitely makes me want to read more books in this fun series of books tied to the all-American town of Bear Creek, Colorado.
I am voluntarily leaving this honest review after receiving an advance reader copy of the book.
The Boy I shouldn't Want captivated me from the moment I saw the cover. Once I started reading, I couldn't stop! I had to finish it in one sitting. This novella from the All American Boy series is an age gap, best friend's brother, hotter than hot romance! I loved both Mason and Sadie from the first. I was rooting for these two from the first page. The heat comes on early and just keeps getting hotter! I highly recommend this one from Stephanie Rose. I am looking forward to reading more from this series.
I went blind with this book and I loved that I didn't know what to expect about it. I love forbidden and this one was sweet, sexy, hot and fun! Even when the book is not long, it gives you all the good vibes. I hope we have a little more of them later in the future!
Super cute, super spicy quick read! I loved mason and Sadie!! Really great read. I love that autumn was so happy with the outcome. She is a great big sister.
This might be my fav Steph book yet . The torture is your best friend brother off limits and when is the right time to ever tell them you falling for or even slept with without ruining a friendship. Then look them in the eye and try to tell them but your so afraid. This book is HOT, Steamy, Swoony and your going wanna scream but so worth it..
Sadie and Mason so cute so freaking funny and hot antsy read
"You know if you're going for saint, they don't actually make you one until you're dead"
"When Autumn asked me to hang out with her brother tonight,I was sure eye fucking him before giving him a peep show wasn't what she had in mind"
"It was my best friends brother, whom she still thought of as a child despite the fact he was obviously all man now"
"When you go home with a goddess" "you're supposed to worship her"
"I think of you every time I almost fall against the broken arm of my couch"
"I want more than this. More than sneaking around my sister. I'll take you with me on one condition, we tell Autumn this weekend. Or you tell her, however you want to do it. When you're in my bed again, you're mine. So, I need you to be sure."
"You taste good when you come. Like fucking candy."
"Call me crazy, but it may be easier to tell her about my new relationship with her brother without looking like I rode him most of the night"
“One shot, one dance, then I’ll let you go. Please.”
Mason was always Autumn's kid brother and now he’s all grown up, making Sadie question the hooking up with your best friend's younger brother rule.
Rules are there to be broken though…
I still couldn’t shake the feeling this was a huge mistake, but I was diving in head first anyway.
One night of passion with no regrets Sadie & Mason hold their secret close to their chest and throughout the months of being apart they keep in touch...keeping those embers warm for when they hope to see each other again.
An opportunity and a chance meeting sees Sadie & Mason together again only...how long will they keep whatever this is between them a secret from Autumn?
Something gotta give...only how big will the fallout be?
Just how far will love travel?
“Not tonight. We’re not anyone’s friend or brother and where we live doesn’t matter.”
Sadie & Mason…<3 I do love it when those lines get blurred and two characters just fall together. Nothing else matters in those moments, the honest pure and whole hearted scenes that leave you begging for more and crossing your fingers at the same time.
It’s a steady quick read, without being rushed and flows perfectly. I loved the characters, the bonds were clear and fitting in well with the tone of this romantic story.
Fun loving, toe curling goodness, sweet caring and overall a great read!
“Sometimes taking what you want can be a dangerous thing.”
I loved this best friend's younger brother romance! Sadie and Mason are thrown together when Mason's sister had to work and couldn't entertain her brother while he was visiting. It had been years since Sadie and Mason had seen each other. They were not prepared for the changes that were before their eyes, and the heat that exploded between them. They couldn't fight the fiery attraction they felt and had a passionate night together. Sadie felt so guilty thinking she had betrayed her best friend, so she pushed Mason away. But Mason was determined to make her see that he was a grown man who could make her happy, and his sister would understand. This sweet and sexy age gap romance is the perfect example of how a short story should be written. It grabbed me right from the start and wouldn't let go, having a depth that was totally satisfying. I really fell for both Sadie and Mason, they were so perfect together and narrators Stella Hunter, and Jason Clarke endeared them even more to me. The really nailed Sadie and Mason's characters and made them their own. They made this story even more captivating, and seductive, expressing their chemistry with great passion. I loved everything about this charming and sizzling romance!
The Boy I Shouldn't Want by Stephanie Rose is an age gap novella, that's part of The All-American Boy Series. It's an older woman, a younger man forbidden romance. Sadie is 31 and Mason is 25. Mason is the brother of Sadie's best friend. The Boy I Shouldn't Want is a short, sweet, and sexy read. A feel-good book!
Sadie and her best friend Autumn live in New York. They've known one another for many years. Autumn asks Sadie to take her brother Mason out to dinner, she's unable to make it due to her work schedule. Sadie reluctantly agrees to go.
Mason works in promotions and does a lot of traveling. He's in New York visiting his sister. Mason finds out he's going out with Sadie, he's always had a crush on her. When he sees Sadie standing at his door, she's even more beautiful than the last time he saw her.
Sparks fly when they are together, their banter is comical. Age was just a number between them. They share an undeniable chemistry. The sexual tension radiates off the pages. Sadie and Mason instantaneously connected. Can Mason convince Sadie to give them a chance? Is Sadie willing to risk her friendship with Autumn? Will they get a happily ever after?
A best friend's younger brother's romance from Stephanie Rose? Yes please! Give me that taste of the forbidden!
I liked that things between Sadie and Mason were electric from the beginning. There was no denying the chemistry between these two. They were hot hot hot and I was here for it. But their bond went deeper than that. They connected on a level neither one was expecting. Too bad life and circumstance wasn't on their side.
I loved that despite things working against them, they made time for one another. And they were both so open and honest and vulnerable with one another that I couldn't help but root for them. When some well thought out scheming brought them together again, it only solidified how much they wanted to be together. Now they just had to work out the logistics of it all...
Short, sexy and sweet, The Boy I Shouldn't Want was a straightforward romance of two people who did everything they could to be together. Mason and Sadie prove that love is worth the work. Fingers crossed to see them somewhere down the line again soon!
The Boy I Shouldn’t Want by Stephanie Rose is a contemporary romance told in first person, dual POV. It features a heroine who’s slightly older (5 years) than the hero and struggles with her attraction and connection to her best friend’s younger brother.
I enjoyed Sadie and Mason’s story. Although I liked them both as characters, I definitely liked Mason more. Sadie may have been older than him, but Mason behaved with more maturity. The title makes it sound like this is a forbidden romance, but that’s not the case. The only obstacles to Sadie and Mason being together are in Sadie’s mind. She sees him as forbidden and off-limits, and treats their relationship that way. These two have great chemistry, and their time on-page together is sexy, engaging, and fun. I was rooting for Sadie to get over her hang-ups, so she and Mason could find their HEA.
