He saw the real her.
The main purpose of her life was to help others so working with her physician father answered that calling. You could tell right from the first chapter how hard it was for her to be taken seriously. When Ellen meets Coin Dowding things, start to change for her and the two of them grow close. Like all good stories the main characters have some challenges but one of them just may be ending Ellen life. I like the story it was well-written with great characters and a wonderful ending. I highly recommend this gem of a book.

All her life Ellen has helped her dad with his medical practice, and dreams of being a dr. Unfortunately nobody else has the views of her father. When they receive word the Duke of Garvey is seriously ill and needs their help, Ellen sees it as a chance to prove her worth as a dr and a healer. The son Colin, the Marquess of Birks, is delighted to meet Ellen. He looks forward to her coming by with her father to take care his father. Colin's mother is anxious for him to marry, and keeps pushing various young ladies of the ton at him. But Colin wants to marry for love, unfortunately he can't convince his mother. On the night of a ball given by his mother for Colin to choose his wife, Ellen disappears in the night. Her father shows up at the ball demanding to see Colin. His mother is upset when Colin says he's going to help find Ellen and demands he stays with their guests. But he goes against his mother's wishes and joins the search anyway. Can they find Ellen in time? Who took her and why? Is Colin going to loose the woman he loves and wants marry? Read this book to find out these answers. This is my favorite book so far by this author. Even though I was given a copy of this book by the author, it in no way influenced my opinion and this is my honest review.

A really fascinating storyline. Emily Barton has always wanted to be a physician just like her father. With his father’s condition deteriorating before his eyes Colin Dowding, the Marquess of Birks, decides to engage a physician from the middle classes. There is an instant flame of attraction between these two from different backgrounds. Can such a love really endure when everything is against them? Not least his mother who keeps placing ‘proper’ young women in his path and an anonymous letter which threatens Ellen’s father. A really gripping story, well written with marvellous characters, this will keep you engaged right up to the end. I received an ARC and am leaving a completely voluntary, unbiased and honest review.

A 5 Star Rating

In "Lady Physician" by Hazel Linwood, Ellen Barton has worked with her father, a physician, as an able assistant or apprentice physician for years. She has worked and studied for years because she endeavors to become the first female physician in England. When the Duke of Garvey becomes ill, Ellen is given the chance to be his primary caregiver because her father has responsibilities to other patients.
The Duke's son, Colin, is impressed by Ellen in her care and knowledge of medicines during her care of his father. He also finds himself drawn to her personally. Of course, no romance is without it's bumps and lumps but that is what good writers do; give us good stories. This one rates 5 stars.

An amazingly gripping story with a difference.

This is an amazingly gripping story that has a very unusual plot. The characters are portrayed brilliantly with the courage and determination, to overcome their fears to achieve their desires. This is a story that is clean and sweet that has the main characters having a very tumultuous journey full of emotion, before they can attain their happiness. The extended epilogue is a beautiful way to complete the story and bring an insight into their later lives. I read an ARC copy.

I loved reading this book from beginning to end. Ellen Barton is passionate in being a lady physician and working alongside her father who is a physician. Her father receives a request from Colin Dowding, the Marquess of Birks, to help his sick father. Ellen and Colin are from different social station but there is an attraction between them that his mother does not like. This story takes you on a rollercoaster ride of twist and turns and terrifying events. There is mystery, suspense, intrigue, surprise, courage, heartbreak, heartache, deceit misunderstanding,, distrust, deception, compassion, love and romance. An awesome book to read. Loved it.

True love wins

What an incredible story about a young woman trying to work in what was supposed to a man's world. In the eighteenth century it seemed impossible for women to be anything other than wife and mother. Yet there were some really remarkable women who changed people's perception about gender biased opinions. Loved this story about Ellen and Colin finding their happily ever after.

Doctor Please

Nosy, overbearing Mamas. Loved the characters and the story
which depicts a woman actually having a profession. Gentlemen
should be stronger and tell everyone they will run their own life.
