Jana’s life had been easy until the Elodians invaded Earth. Hiding with her younger brother for about a year in a cellar wasn’t ideal, but they survived. Then rescue came in the form of huge, horned warriors called Klagan, who promised they’d be safe. Fighting the Elodians came naturally to Cyok. A Captain in the Klagan military, he spent his life surrounded by battles. When his latest mission took him to Terra, or Earth as the humans called it, he never expected to find his mate. He also never expected for his mate’s younger brother to disappear from a Klagan warship. Jana’s hellbent on finding her brother. She refuses to lose the last of her family to aliens. Cyok will do anything for his mate - including go on a crazy mission to search for her brother. Not only are they trying to navigate uncharted planets, but also the bond that connects their souls... This is the first in the Klagan Warriors story with a HEA, no cheating and no cliffhangers.
I adored this story! The near insta love between our leading people is sweet and romantic, and the story continued to have twists and turns all the way up until the end. The author clearly worked hard to come up with amazing ideas, each alien species has a name, a world, and description. The story and details were thought out and so creative. I chose to give this a 4-41/2 star rating because there are points where it felt as if there were parts missing. My other struggle was discerning whose POV we were reading from. There were chapters and section breaks that switched to different people, sometimes in the middle of a paragraph, and it was difficult to keep up with. This book is a wonderful to start to what I presume will be a great series. Lots of twists and turns, plenty of steamy and sweet romance, and some big issues to take care of. I can't wait to see what's next!
This was a most enjoyable book and each character added there part to the story about earth being invaded by an evil race Elodians who pretended to come in peace and soon took over killing the men and taking the females into slavery to be sold off. Jana and her brother Ray have been hiding in the bunker that her father had made being a preppier for well over a year after everything one was killed or taken. Now her brother wants to do something nice for his sister birthday and takes her outside to watch the sunrise and breathe in fresh air and all is going well until an alien steps forward and tells them that he is here to help them and that his name is Captain Cyok and he is on earth to find survivors as peacekeepers but got there to late to stop the Elodians from killing all most everyone and offers to take them back to his spaceship called Fearless where they will be fed and have a safe place to stay. Jana feels she can trust this sexy alien man but doesn’t understand why but she does and Ray agrees with her and also because he is hungry. Cyok meets Jana and Ray on his last sweep of the area and he is very drawn to the gorgeous female and wants to protect her and her brother with his life but it’s much more than that he wants her to be his forever mate but how can a human be his mate he doesn’t understand but decides to put these thoughts away for another time. Now safe on the ship they meet other humans that have been saved and they get along very well and become fast friends but her thoughts always return Cyok is it because she hasn’t seen or been with a male in a long time and that why she wants him or is it the way he looks at her with a longing that makes her feel this way. There is so much more to this book there’s shopping, clothes, hot steamy nights, kidnapping, death, survival, suspense, surveillance betrayal and love are just the tip of the iceberg that’s keeps you riveted to this amazing book. Brilliant book
I thoroughly enjoyed this fantastic story featuring Cyok, an alien Klagan warrior, and Jana, a human female. This story is set on Earth after an alien invasion that has left Jana and her teenaged brother, Ray, hiding in an underground bunker built by their father. After a while Ray wanders outside the bunker to explore their surroundings. During Jana's first time outside the bunker, the siblings come across an alien (Cyok) and immediately Jana regrets leaving the safety of their bunker. Cyok turns out to be a friendly alien who is on Earth to rescue any survivors. Reluctantly the siblings decide to follow Cyok into his spaceship and they find many surprises on board. Jana and Cyok develop a friendship that quickly evolves into a romantic relationship. In the background of their budding love, we see something stirring up - something that Cyok is keeping a secret, even from his general and fellow warriors. We get a brief glimpse of life outside the spaceship and get to see different aliens. While there wasn't much world building, there is definitely the potential for more of it in subsequent books. There is some action towards the end and a twist of events that keeps you glued to the pages. Overall it was a very sweet story of a devoted alien male and how he meets/finds his human female mate. I received an ARC and this is my honest opinion.
The world is decimated by aliens that capture and sell into slavery. Jana and her brother Ray survive in a bunker, but the food is running out. On a water run, they are surprised by another alien, who claims to be the good guy. Can they trust him? Do they have a choice?
Cyok is intrigued by Jana. She is unlike any other alien he's ever met. Jana is showing him things that he enjoys doing with her. When she goes missing, he goes in search. Cyok has a secret, a secret that no one on board knows about. Not even his captain. Will that come back to haunt him later?
It was a fast-paced story for sure. So fast that sometimes I forgot whose POV I was reading. I felt like the twist at the end should have come sooner in the book, but that is me.
This is the first book of the series and very well written. The author does a wonderful job of describing a whole new world, from the different species, the ships and planets, and the food. She also points out cultural differences between all the species. It follows a wonderful plot line of following Jana and her brother Ray after Earth is taken over by a violent species. They are saved by the Klagan warriors and Jana realizes she has feelings for the Klagan captain, Cyok. This is a wonderful world-building, steamy, exciting story. I can't wait to read more about the Klagan warriors and hopefully the other humans in this first story!
I really wanted to love this book, but it often felt as though I was slogging through thick mud while reading it. I love the concept, and the cover and blurb drew me in. However, it quickly became clear that this book needs an editor. The characters, while interesting, felt flat and static throughout the book. Grammar and punctuation issues, especially when it came to dialogue. The absence of dialogue tags where multiple people are speaking made it difficult to discern who said what. Additionally, the lack of consistent details and descriptions kept me from experiencing the story as the characters did.
With a good editor, this book would be absolute fire.
Jana and her brother went thru a lot. Earth was invades by an alien species and they had to guide in a bunker for a usar. It was very dificult but eventually they got out and Discovery that Another aliens were on earth and they were the good guys. Cyok is a captain and he has the take to find and save humans from the evil aliens. What he didn't expect was the atracction he had with a human he saved. They have to walk a Litlle until they get together and Java a lot os chalenges including bad guys that were infliltraded but it is all worth it.
I got an ARC of this book and thought it was a lot of fun. It's not my usual genre, but I have read Ice Planet Barbarians and thought this was a bit like that book. It's a nice read to take your mind off of whatever's going on in the world. Thing I like most about it: there was a great pacing build up leading up to Jana and Cyok's "romance." He didn't immediately swoon over her, and she went back and forth as to if she could even like him. I like how that added a little romantic tension.
A great start to a new series, a little bit of insta love but has a nice mix of sexual tension leading to the spice. A lot of world building was put into, not any a boring way but a way that leads to a lot of exciting possibilities that this series could take. There are some nice twists in this story that you really don't see coming till you're right on it.
Overall a book worth reading and an exciting series to follow.
This is my first book in this genre. I didn’t think I’d like this type of story but I did. I really liked the characters. I was able to connect with them and just had to know what happened to them. The characters and sci-fi world are described in a way that I could picture them. The relationships between all of the characters were great. Sure hope there’s more to the story!!
For a first book in a series, this is a brilliant start. The worldbuilding is exceptional, helping you visualise the characters, and world, without overloading you with detail. The characters are well rounded, and likeable. Loveable, even. Cyok is hot, sweet, and protective. I guess I have a new type, purple and blue guys with horns. Honestly, I devoured this book, and then I immediately downloaded the next! Totally recommend this series and writer!
It was good. Predictable for a lot of it. I don’t feel we know much about any of the characters but the story was good. I HATE Eloise. Every time the character popped up just ugh. She just came off very annoying to me. What probably meant to be endearing made me want to punch her in the face. I think Jana could have been stronger. The story covers a very short amount of time between the two main characters
Alien adventures! After an invasion of Earth, Jana and her brother hide in a bunker for year. They come out one day and are found by a different kind of alien. This Alien is named Cyok and he takes them back to the ship. Jana and Cyok fall for each other, but a bad actor onboard sabotages their budding relationship by putting Jana and her brother in a dangerous situation and sending Cyok on a pointless mission. Cyok finds out the truth and save Jana and her brother. They have a HEA.
Omg, the Klagans are such a wonderful species to read about. Cyok; a Klagan Captain and Jana; a rescued human leads the reader through all the twists and turns that occur when two completely different species unite. Holly Hanzo gives her story drama, excitement, great twists and turns and above all love. A great cast of supporting characters like Jana's brother Ray and others lead us hopefully into new stories. I so enjoyed this book. Can't wait to read more.
This is a new genre for me and I must say I thoroughly enjoyed it. The story is brilliantly written with just enough familiarity to understand and newness to keep it intriguing. This very rare love story in the backdrop of a galactic war is such a treat.
First book in the series, and I felt as if I was drawn into Cyok’s world. Seeing all the new alien species for the first time right along with Jana and Ray. Love, spice, and adventure! Can’t wait to read what’s in store for book two!
I got a taste of Holly Hanzo's writing with her story in Supra Vellum. Since it was Christmas I was able to buy it. It is a fantastic story and I'll get the whole series when I can afford it.
DNF at 32% The writing was iffy, but I held on to see if it’d get better. When the MMC sniffed at the air, and the FMC was all “oh no he knows I’m here” I had to quit lol. We never learned about his sense of smell and why would she assume that he could smell her from across the gym.😭💀
My only problem with this book is that the POV's kept changing without any notice. No new chapter or heading telling you its another characters pov. Very frustrating and distracted for the story.
Jana and her brother escaped the alien invasion by staying in a bunker for a year. Cyok found them and welcomed them aboard his spaceship. Earth needs help and Cyok and Jana are just the ones to help. Enjoy
