When Chloe was thirteen, Sebastian saved her from falling off the cliff outside of his home. During that brief moment of being cradled in his strong arms, a wicked flame burst into existence inside of her. That flame has built into an inferno during Chloe's five restless years away, confusing and arousing her without cease. Now, once again she stands in front of Sebastian, asking to be saved, but the kind man she met at thirteen has hardened into a mean recluse. When Sebastian offers Chloe help in exchange for her body, there's no choice but to accept. Too late, he recognizes the sweet girl he once pulled to safety—the girl he has now coerced into his bed, handling her without the gentleness she deserves. Devastated, Sebastian sets out to win back Chloe's affection and keep her forever. But will she welcome him back into her arms after what he's done?
I am glad that Jessa Kane publish new novella every month but i really wish she would calm down a bit when it comes to daddy kink.I mean..i can tolerate it and have tolerated it in all steamy books i come across that has that trope but Jessa Kane is making it not-sexy-at-all in her later books. It becomes down right gross and creepy at times.
Sweat is beginning to form on the hollow of my throat, my hands flexing on the arms of my chair. I’m getting…almost dizzy, my eyes straying continually to the clock. Where is she? I need a fucking hit. I need to feed my addiction.
And that's how I started today's review!
Hmmm.... So I didn't know what I expected from this. All I do know is that it was just okay. There were a few instances that took me off guard, i.e.;
“Did I accidentally put you through puberty too soon, Chloe? Did you run back to your mommy that day five years ago with a confused pussy?”
Yes. This is actually what the heroine vocalises while she's riding the O-wave. Listen, I get it, the daddy kink is real, and I enjoy a lot of questionable shit when reading smut, but ffs, this is not sexy to me. DADA?? WTF. Who gets off on this??
I don't want to get preachy and I don't expect my smutty novellas to teach me life lessons, but I also don't enjoy it when it crosses the line from titillating to plain gross. It's not romantic to me when a young woman calls a grown ass man "DADA", especially in the heat of passion. I want to read about two consenting adults, who sure, have kinks, but when those kinks make me feel as though a grown man may be taking advantage of a young, naïve child, I tap out. When a man gets off on a woman calling him by a name used exclusively by babies, it feels less like romance and more predatory. Urgh, perhaps I'm overthinking this, but I wasn't feeling this dynamic at all.
I've said this before and I'll say it again, Jessa Kane writes well and her stories always feel like she's bringing something new to the table. This is really hard to do when the basis of your story is not character development, but insta-love and more so, insta-lust. So I appreciate her range. But while this book might work for many, it just didn't work for me.
Lastly, I'm surprised by the grammatical errors and story inconsistencies. Jessa, you can do better than this - get a proof reader.
This was over the top short instalove the hero grumpy recluse Sebastian barters with eighteen-year-old Chloe to spend time in his bed for a roof over her and her brothers head discovering she’s a virgin doesn’t even really slow him down though he does feel guilt on realising she’s the girl he saved a few years ago.
Chloe is all overdramatic I’m so bad and wicked while Sebastian is the definition of a dirty older man. He instantly falls in love with her and decides he wants to keep her. I’m actually a fan of daddy kink and age-gap if it’s done right but here it’s just felt a bit weird and very abrupt and random and when Sebastian brutally takes Chloe’s virginity it also felt very unrealistic on her part.
There was no build-up and not much plot development and the characters themselves felt very one dimensional. it was hot in places especially if you like a more raw dirty feel which I normally do but not without some plot included as well but this lacked soul and that ultimate connection. some of that may have been due to the length of this but short doesn’t necessarily have to mean limited.
This also felt strangely out of time like it was meant to be modern-day but almost had an almost older vibe. Also, the brother Curtis went from being described as two years old to then three the next morning and is strangely grown up very self-sufficient and extremely vocal for such a young toddler. I was disappointed as I’ve read a novella by this author before which I enjoyed but with this, I didn’t feel the connection to the story one bit.
"The Way She Burns" is the story of Chloe and Sebastian.
The hero saved the heroine's life when she was a teenager, and hence became the hero of her dreams. Years later, when she comes orphaned and struggles to feed herself and her baby brother, she decides to approach him for help. He asks for her body in return.. and to his shock, she agrees.
It was good in parts but had too much of cheesiness for me. There's a lot of daddy smut in this, as well as a tiny typo (hero calls the boy her brother before he even discovers the child's identity).
"She know I’m nasty !!! She like when I pull it” or something DaBaby said!!!
This book held the kink flag so high I thought it was a surrender. But let’s focus on the important things. Chloe is in desperate need of a home for her and her little brother. So she goes the only place she’s ever felt safe on the cliff right outside of Sebastián’s home. He saved her once when she was 13 years old and she needs him again. But what can 5 years in complete silence away from the world do to someone. It can make them cold and when she meets up with Sebastian again he isn’t the man that made her feel safe.
Chloe must give her body in order to have a place to stay and she is willing to do anything at this point. What she does not realize is that she will also give her heart. This book was raw and passionate and at times even a bit too much. Chloe thinks that because of her wicked desires she is being punished by the things happening to her.
What she doesn’t know that Sebastian is even more wicked and he will make all the bad things in her life go away. This book was spicy 🌶 as heck and made me swoon at all the right times. Please give this hot and dirty book a quick read I promise you won’t be disappointed 😍🥰.
Like with all Jessa Kane books I wish it were longer - especially one as spicy and as tension filled as this one. A beauty and the beast retelling in the best way, probably one of my favorites by her.
i keep reading JK books bc they're short + horny KU reads, and she always delivers on those two things. But also every time I really side-eye the fetishization of very young (almost always 18yr old) heroines, especially when the heroes are almost always at least 10-15yrs older— and they often meet the heroine when she's still adolescent.... Like i 100% understand that fiction & fantasy is a space to explore things that is more taboo/you absolutely wouldn't do irl, but also I wish there was some.....acknowledgment of the problematic aspects? Or maybe that they were just a liiittle bit older? Idk I just find it harder & harder to read some of her books bc the intense sexualization of women barely over the age of 18 (and sometimes younger than that) squicks me out, but also I ~do~ keep reading them bc they're readily available...i have very complex feelings
Romance genre: insta-love (at different times for each character though because of circumstances) Length: 67 pages
Plot: Sebastian is the town's grumpy recluse, but Chloe is certain he'll help her; after all, five years ago when she was 13, he saved her from falling over a cliff on his property. Since then, though, he's become a shut-in with nothing good to say to anyone else. Chloe's mom has died, leaving her to take care of her toddler brother. Chloe can't though; opportunity has dried up in her town and she has men literally trying to break down their door to attack her. So she tries to leave her brother on Sebastian's doorstep, but he catches her. He thinks she's older and more experienced than she is, and . Once he realizes his mistake, he starts to make up for it, in the process discovering that maybe his life was not as complete as he thought.
Commentary: Sebastian was a sad character. Grubby, greedy family had turned him into a recluse, but Chloe was able to make him see past that trauma. This was not my favorite Jessa Kane story, and I think that's because Chloe's one defining characteristic was that she was horny. That's all. I do expect dirty sex from this author, but I would have liked a little more from her heroine. However, it was still an enjoyable story.
This book is filled with nasty. It’s too much naughty!
Ok did all the old bitties leave yet? Ok good! This is Jessa doing her best with the naughty reads! Oh my gosh I think we all know a Chloe and hope to have a Sebastian to help that fire!! If you want age gap, Daddy/little play and A-hole to sweet, j/p hero, this is it!
I would’ve loved it even more if Sebastian had to chase her but Jessa once again doesn’t owe me anything with this one! It’s super hot, like 5 fire emojis worth. You may need to grab a toy or a man after this one! Enjoy!
Lots of daddy kink, which ok, was really over the top in this one. “Dada” are u fucking kidding me?! That isn’t sexy. However that bit of cringe aside, I would’ve been fine overlooking it if not for the crappy ending. Yet ANOTHER book from this author where the MCs don’t have any babies, which just feels…incomplete and empty. Yeah, they raise her little brother, but the hero never experiences the wonder and joy of watching his woman nurture HIS baby inside her body, they never experience the bond that comes from having a child of their own.
It’s really weird this authors inability to understand this deep, primal, pivotal connection in romance.
The story was packed full of smut, some of It good, some of it cringe, but the sense of them as a healthy couple building, growing, nurturing a family together just fell flat. And I felt sorry for the little brother. Wouldn’t it have been better to have been given a younger sister, a younger brother? Being an only kid is lonely.
This is one of those really weird Jessa Kane books when you can’t figure out the year it’s set in. They speak about and talk in such old fashioned styles but then theyll throw in a car. It makes my brain hurt a little.
A dirty little read. Heavy daddy kink, some age play and such, and some DDlg vibes. If you’re into that you’ll enjoy this even if you feel like you’re stuck in some kind of time warp.
no I actually think I broke myself because not even this jessa hit and she always hit 😭 I just was honestly confused by what time period this was in and just like idk I didn’t vibe
Sebastian is a ‘Beauty and the Beast’ beastly type character. Sequestered behind the ways of his estate up on the mountain, Chloe sneaks her way into his life. Her mother died unexpectedly and leaving Chloe in charge of her baby brother. Now an 18 year old with her 3 year old brother as her charge, she’s desperate for food and a safe place to sleep.
Sebastian saved her life one fateful night when she was a carefree teenager and Chloe never forgot his kindness. When these two come together the daddy/little games ramp up and to say they’re both insatiable is an understatement.
Finally! A Jessa Kane book that I enjoyed (have previously loved her stuff, but the last ten or so of them have been duds for me). I was considering a four star rating, but the overuse of the daddy stuff eventually got to me, and it also made no sense that she would leave his protection to live in poverty in order to take better care of her brother… like… no one who’s lived in poverty like she supposedly had thinks that that would be better. Also, I’m sorry. But that kid is not two years old. Two year olds are barely walking and talking. For most of this I imagined it being set in 1940s, or some variant of mid-late Victorian era. Really amping up that gothic vibe. I honestly felt less into it when it was being explicitly a contemporary story because the age gap stuff was weirder. But, all in all, enjoyed this wayyyy more than the last ten or so books of hers that I’ve read.
- JK steamy novella! Seb saved Chloe when she was 13 and now she needs his help again… instalove, age gap, daddy k!nk! - feel like this had a bit more plot than usual - the s3x scenes are very good - that girl was brainwashed by her mother jeeeez - they were acc just quite cute together - a nice and easy read! - the epilogue was so hot oh my god - and i kinda liked that they didn’t want kids
Solid 4 stars just for the filthy smut alone. God damn. I swear, Jessa Kane writes the hottest, dirtiest sex scenes I’ve ever read. And she manages to pack so much filth in such short books. This one was less than 70 pages, and I swear I need to go take a cold shower right now.
Low plot, high smut. And I am 100% here for it. I am always on the lookout for new Jessa Kane releases. I just love her filthy imagination.
POV: Dual, 1st person. SERIES or STANDALONE: Standalone. TROPES: M/F new adult/adult, age gap, small town romance. SIZE: 66 (last page) Kindle pages. CHARACTERS: Sebastian (late 20s) & Chloe (18)
A quick novella, easy read, more smut than plot. Daddy & little girl kink play. Could’ve done well for a longer and fleshed out storyline? Yes however also reads just fine for what it’s intended to be.
