Sometimes all it takes is a good fistfight to find true love!
Akamatsu has problems at home, while Seven doesn’t even have a home. When these two strangers meet, fighting soothes their troubled souls, opening up room for something more.
Seven has disappeared, and when Akamatsu goes looking for him, he learns of his shocking past. The two have grown up in vastly different worlds, but the time they’ve spent together still burns brightly. Will Akamatsu fight to get those days back or is the chasm between their two worlds too great to span?
It was worth going through the yakuza plot and all the other dark stuff to see the impact its conclusion has on Aisuke and Seven's relationship. Without giving anything away, let's just say it put a huge smile on my face. The whole series did, and it's gonna be one of the things I think about whenever I need to smile.
I think, at the end of the day, I do like this series. I appreciate that it's willing to go as far as it does to explain why Seven was homeless in the park when Aisuke met him, how it doesn't magically fix things between Aisuke and his homophobic dad, and how both boys ultimately learn that happiness takes work - and are willing to do that work. On the other hand, this has some whiplash-quality tonal shifts (I laughed at the nature hike chapter, but it really belongs in a different manga that doesn't involve children being prostituted and drug lords), so it's a very uneven reading experience.
My final takeaway? If you're looking for darker BL with art drawn by a guy who usually works in shounen/seinen, this is worth it at only three volumes. But it comes with some hefty content warnings and weird tonal changes, so be prepared.
True to the up/down writing to the very end. I liked the ending. But did the roller-coaster-story need to dive so low? Some strange story-lines popped up in each one of these volumes. The cover of these books looks like "bad" boys is just a fun title, whereas Seven indeed was with a very bad group that normally would not let this story ever have the good ending that resulted.
Overall 3.5 for me for this series: Ending - 4.5+ Strange plot inserts - 3.5 Strong trigger-sensitive non-cool stuff - 2.5
The whole series has been a wild friggin ride. I mean wild, literally wild!! I didn't finish it before because the story was getting so dark for me and I was kinda still sensitive back then, but finally, I pushed myself today. AND THE ANIMALS SCENE IS SO FRIGGIN HILARIOUS—I CAN'T!! But, I guess, all's well that ends well, huh.
¡Ya he acabado macarras in love!
I love the way this wrapped up. There's some closure in the bigger plot surrounding these two and it's necessary for the assurance of a happy ending. Which we definitely get. There's so much domestic fluff and joy between these two and together they are a perfect match. This whole series has been a unique mix of tragedy, hilarity, and romance, but it was ultimately a success.
3.5 stars rounded up to 4...i'm glad we got some context and closure in regards to seven's past but honestly i think i would have enjoyed this wayyyy more if the plot from the very beginning was just seven going around talking to animals and helping them out of silly situations while akamatsu trails after him and tries to come up with a reason for them to hold hands. the small moments of domesticity and companionship were by far my favorite - i'd read another entire volume of just these two learning how to love each other in a way that works for both of them - and i especially liked that akamatsu's dad was neither further demonized nor forgiven by his son. there's an uncomfortable coexistence between them that feels very true to life, and i appreciated that little detail a lot.
So I read the series two times now, and there will be a third for sure. I actually got the urge to even translate this whole thing just for fun (and for myself lol).
I don't know what it is about these three volumes, but it hit my very specific preferences somehow. I was looking for a shonen/seinen style BL manga for a long time now and so far this one was the best. I love the relationship between Seven and Akamatsu and just all in all how they treat each other. Also love the fact that Seven is actually from the Philippines because I haven't seen a lot of characters in manga from other asian countries that aren't bad stereotypes. All in all I loved it!
Super enjoyed this cute manga series. Be warned of the triggers, although this was cute, it got a bit dark. Overall, I’m so glad I picked these up and the ending was so cute.
Representation: gay Japanese protagonist, queer Filipino protagonist, Japanese secondary and tertiary characters.
Content Warning: violence, mention of parental death, drugs, organised crime, mention of attempted rape, mention of abuse.
This last volume was definitely a satisfying conclusion to a beutiful story-arc. Akamatsu and Seven have my heart, and although I wish we could have spent more time with them, I am still quite happy with what we got!
No sé si n'he acabat massa convençut. Però viciar vicia.
It actually ended well, with zero deaths?? 😯 Well, aside from the flashback with Seven's parents (and the guy who ate insects in vol2 but he doesn't count).
Seven goes to work with Takanami reluctantly (he doesn't like the drug connection, especially because it's such a bad offense in Asia) but has no choice because Eight has the upper hand. Meanwhile, Seven asks Hako to pick up his stuff from Akamatsu's place. Akamatsu asks about Seven and we find out more about Seven's past.
His parents are from Cebu; poor folks hoping to earn money by smuggling. (Sachiko the missing monkey is likely a tarsier... I thought she was a dog when they mentioned her in vol 1. But the implication at first was she's an escaped prostitute. She's not.) One time they brought Seven along while sealing a deal, but things got awry and Seven's parents get gunned down by a trigger happy guard-for-hire. When he sees his dead parents, Seven grabs a gun and shoots said guard-for-hire. Impressed, Takasu decides to take him on.
So bruh. Seven is actually Filipino?? What the hell? I wasn't prepared, especially since his features look stereotypical slanty eyed East Asian. (Look, I got teased for how I looked when I was a child and I wasn't even slanty eyed!) Anyway, I have a nitpicky detail: Seven and his family are Filipinos but they lived in Cebu, which means they should have been speaking Cebuano. There's a few lines they say in Tagalog, which would probably piss off some Cebuanos lmao. (I'm Tagalog though.)
Seven's past aside, things get a little tense in Takasu's group as they find out Eight had found Seven + both boys are connected ti Takanami's drug business. The police have also been asking about Eight in relation to that insect dude who died. Takasu then asks Kanzaki if he has something to confess.
I'm kinda surprised Takasu dealt with all of this as efficiently as he did, but I guess it was an honour among thieves kinda thing? He arranged to meet with Takanami's group and settled everything by ... talking. Honestly, there was more chaos in Double Mints. Eight would have to go to jail, but if Seven so desired, he can leave the family and Takasu would cut ties with him completely. Which honestly is fair since Seven became their ward because of their own fault. Seven decides to leave.
Oh also, Akamatsu is there because Hako tells him about the meeting. Akamatsu tries to convince Seven to leave the group in order to enjoy their わくわくチンコライフ (I choked and also Hako trying not to laugh behind Takasu is my favourite thing).
Anyway, Akamatsu tells Seven it really is his decision and goes back home when Seven asks him to. Then Seven sends him a text saying he's coming home. ☺
So the next few chapters is pretty much them enjoying their わくわくチンコライフ... Seven wins tickets for a trip for two at the mountains. They go to a proper inn and take a walk in the woods. That bit is pure SHOOWA chaos. They keep meeting random animals in the nature course and ends up getting trapped in a hanging bridge with a bear?? The bridge collapses and they almost fall down but the animals they met along the way helped them out??? 'What's this Disney scene'????
It all feels like how we need to warm down after some heavy exercise. We're back to them being funny and random and cute, which tbf is what we're here for. We also see them actually talking about and navigating this new development in their relationship.
The sex scene is so awkward and funny and I'm a big fan. It's also very unsexy, but it was totally made for us to see how these two work out in bed. (Seven interrupting and ignoring Akamatsu's talk of him being on the receiving end was funny though.)
All in all I'm really happy with this and I totally recommend to people who like chaotic boys falling in love. The humour is top notch as always. It's actually not as heavy emotion-wise as イベリコ豚, but definitely still packs a punch.
Really looking forward to seeing more of Okujima's BL works if he makes them. 🙏

¿Verdad, Akamatsu?

Okay so i didn't know the series was going to be finished this volume, like reading it in the beginning felt kind of like an ending type of thing, and not gonna lie i was hoping ti would run for at least maybe like another volume or two but nope 3 volumes all together i guess. I would've rated it with five stars if the scene with the resort and animals wasn't there, or maybe keep the resort but like make them have sex their, i was kind of hoping it would go like that. Honeslty though after the whole animals on the trail thing i kind of fell out of it. i was reading it and it felt so weird and rushed afterwards. Don't get me wrong the ending was great, i wanted them to stick together, to be together, but I dunno that whole things towards the end, getting near the end, i mean even the sex scene of him losing his virginity was so weird. Kind of cringe not gonna lie. But the chaptes after that were okay, i liked those. It just seems like something that needed at least one more volume. Overall i liked the seires, didn't know it was going to be dealing with drugs and murder and such, i wish they flushed out eights character a bit more because honestly if i'm being truthful overall the story was great, the plot felt a bit all over the place in this volume, and also it seemed a bit fast paced. I mean when he said "two months have passed" i was like "huh, it only feels like a couple of weeks", i felt like things were pretty rushed. I wish things were more flushed out.
