Deception Duet #2

Slaying the Dragon

Rate this book
I should have resisted him, but I was too weak to fight the devil himself.
And Tyler Burnham is the devil.
He used me.
He lied to me.
But he loved me.
He still does.

Mackenzie Delano never wants to hear the name Tyler Burnham again.

Never wants to feel her soul ignite from his simple touch.

Never wants to be reminded of how foolish she was to let him into her life and her heart.

Unfortunately, it’s not as simple as she wishes. Not when he managed to do the one thing she never thought possible…

He taught her how to love again.

Except none of it was real.

Or so she thinks...

Tyler Burnham thought he experienced loss and heartache before, but that was nothing compared to the excruciating pain consuming him every minute of every day since he watched Mackenzie walk out of his life.

As he tries to make peace with the role he played in betraying her trust, he tries to find a way to prove that his feelings for her are true.

That the love they shared is real.
That he would walk through fire to keep her at his side.
That he would sacrifice it all...his career, his fortune, his life...to protect her.
That he would gladly slay the dragons that have tormented her for too long now.

As he digs deeper into the conspiracy surrounding her father and the tangled web of secrets unravels, he realizes he may just have to.

"There's no black and white, only varying shades of gray hiding a kernel of truth."

Slaying the Dragon is a most apt conclusion to this story. The suspense continues onwards as secrets are revealed, discoveries are made, and a family comes together, while lovers are reunited.

At the ending of Chasing the Dragon (book 1) both Mackenzie and Tyler's world come crashing down around them. The perfect little love bubble that Mackenzie was living in, was shattered as the truth of Tyler's betrayal was discovered. The utter devastation both characters succumbed to was heart wrenching and painful to read. Mackenzie became a broken, shell of a person.. Barely surviving, and an emotional wreck. Despite, it all, she still loved Tyler. Still wanted to be a part of his life, with hopes that they could get closure and move forward and have a future.

The way T.K. Leigh portrayed the broken and devastating emotions of each character was superb. She made the reader gravitate towards the story and kept me on the edge of my seat. Constantly making me wonder if Mackenzie would stay true to herself and continue to be the strong woman she has been developed as. And, I must say, she definitely stayed true to herself.

When Tyler returns, his newest mission is to recapture the heart of his lost love. Mackenzie is his lighting strike, the air he needs to breathe. Without her, living has no meaning. Returning, Tyler and Mackenzie struggle to familiarize themselves with the other. Full disclosure, the truth and communication. Tyler had to work hard to get back in Mac's good books. This was such a descriptive part of the novel. Where they reunited and started all over again. The discomfort at times, the pleasure, the familiarity and unyielding love that shone through each of their eyes. These two knew how to overcome obstacles and turn the negativity into team work. Tyler became the epitome of a doting lover, and ever remorseful of his past actions.

I loved how the entire plot came together, even as it unravelled more. With some devastating surprises, and some even more joyful discoveries. Tyler's family shone throughout this instalment. His mother Colleen is such a wonderfully strong, and inspiring woman and mother.

Slaying the Dragon is one of those books that will emotionally devastate the reader, emitting strong feelings towards the characters, and leaving the reader vulnerable to the entire tale. Even mystified at the suspenseful outcome. This story continues to prove that only friendship and love can survive all trials.

Always remember, perfection is a fallacy.

Love was finding that one person who made you laugh, cry, smile, hope, crave, want, lust, and grow. I had that with Tyler and I refused to let it go. I knew I would do everything to keep this man at my side...

My beautiful, caring, selfless mystery man.

**Note: This is not a standalone and must be read after Chasing the Dragon.**

T.k. Leigh once again douses her readers with raw emotions, intrigue, suspense and romance in her newest release Slaying the Dragon, which happens to be the second and final installment to The Deception Duet. Slaying the Dragon picks off where it last left off and readers are left reeling with the hurt, pain, betrayal, and loss that Tyler Burnham inflicted on Mackenzie emotionally.

#SlayingTheDragon

When Mackenzie discovered the real reasoning as to why Tyler got close to her, she never accounted for the emotional mess that Tyler would inflict on her heart. Those weeks she spent with him was forever ingrained in her heart and something that memories couldn't erased. Her heart, body, and mind belonged to him emotionally and physically. She ached for him especially when he disappeared from her life for almost 4 months. Four months where she was questioning her sanity if Tyler was ever real. Was their love ever real? So when Tyler returns home, he tries to earn back Mackenzie's love and trust. And he will stop at nothing until he slays all the dragons that stands in their way.

"You're my heart. The air I breathe. My everything. I don't care what it takes to prove it was real. That it is real. Still. I will beg every day for the rest of my life to make you mine. You can tell me no every day for weeks, months, years. I don't care how long you want to hurt me, to tell me you never want to see me again. I deserve it."

Since this book is the conclusion as to what will happen to Tyler and Mackenzie, I really don't want to say much and spoil the book for the readers. But I will just say this, T.K. Leigh will shatter your heart emotionally but slowly she will piece them back together. And as always, she never fails to deliver a suspenseful story that is full of shocking and surprising twist and turns. Slaying the Dragon was an emotionally gripping sexy suspense story that will tug all the heartstrings. So if you are looking for an edgy, sexy, steamy, and dangerously addicting suspenseful story, then I highly recommend you to read The Deception Duet series. As always, T.K. reminds us all that love isn't a fairytale. It isn't perfect. But love is about overcoming obstacles, fighting to be together, facing challenges and slaying the dragon together.

Amazing epic conclusion full of suspense and mystery, that took me on an emotional journey. It definitely kept me on the edge of my seat and guessing until the end. I was anxiously awaiting this one as the last one left me full of questions, That being said I was not disappointed with how this one played out. The story moved at a great pace and I did not want it to end. Tk knows how to draw you in and keep you intrigued. You can feel the emotions coming through each of the characters and that makes them seem so real. If you like a good mystery with a dash of steaminess this is right up your alley! Cannot wait for more from her...

Slaying the Dragon is a dark, dangerous, spicy, suspenseful, and sensational story that elicits an adrenaline-rush of a high. An emotional roller coaster of a read that winds you through a powerful plot with so many twists and turns and chills and thrills, Slaying the Dragon ensnares you and enthralls you from beginning to end. I was filled with angst, happiness, sadness, fear, and anger.

This oh-so-descriptive and impactful story is like watching a masterful mix of a movie that is an all-in-one adventure, romance, mystery, and thriller. The writing is sophisticated yet sexy. The book burns right into your heart and soul. Pure addiction.

Mackenzie ‘Mack’ Delano is left gutted after Tyler Burnham betrays her trust in Chasing the Dragon. She relinquished control for the first time in her life…for him. Mack has to forget intriguing and incredible Tyler, who not only melted her panties, but her heart too. Tyler delved deep into Mack’s heart and may have left a permanent scar behind. She is wearing the badge of betrayal, and must find a way to move on and away from Tyler, despite the portion of her heart he still has captive.

“I needed to wash my life of his existence so I could return to the old Mackenzie, the one who maintained complete over her feelings…My brain never wanted to see him again, but my heart wanted it to be real because, for that brief moment in time, it was so real for me. He had become my lightning strike, just as he had sworn I was his. But lightning burns.”

Tyler is like a lost soul too without Mackenzie. She is holding his mind hostage while he must give her the space she needs, even if it is tearing his heart apart.

“My betrayal and deception tormented me, reminding me I would never be worthy of anyone’s love again, especially Mackenzie’s. Regardless, I wasn’t giving up.”

"I had barely spent five minutes with him, but there was something about his uninterested demeanor that fascinated me. He was confident and sure, unmoved by my tried-and-true diversion techniques to get a guy to leave me alone."

Two lost souls hold on to each other’s hearts but may be reunited sooner than they think, as danger and darkness surround them from the outside. Hopefully, lightning strikes twice before it becomes a staggering storm that could get deadly.

Slaying the Dragon is not just an amazing and adrenaline-rushing read; it’s an nail-biting, edge-of-seat hanging adventure. The incredible T.K. Leigh flawlessly wrapped up this powerful piece of perfection, leaving me with an aching hangover.

You'd think that after reading each and every one of T.K Leigh's books, It would be easier to review them. Well, you thought wrong because this woman left me once again with no words.
I'm not sure what the hell is going on in this little head of hers, but HELL I love this little brilliant head!
I received an ARC for an honest review and I'm so grateful for that because I had the time to process everything. As you all read on Chasing the Dragon, the roller coaster and the cliffhanger at the end was mind blowing! So don't except less with this one…
Slaying the Dragon continues Mackenzie and Tyler's story after the revelation of Tyler's deception on CTD. They're both staying apart from each other for a while and struggle through it. But when the struggle becomes too hard, forgiveness and trust becomes their main one.
While they're trying to figure out how to re-build their relationship, the investigation about Mackenzie's father is getting more and more complicated and new revelations makes them fight for everything they have.
I can't say nothing more about the plot without revealing spoilers so get yourselves ready for a hell of a ride with this breathtaking story, full of suspense, surprises and heart warming love.
Oh, and TK, if you have more of this perfect Burnham Blood around you, you know where to send it right???
I'm still single… Just sayin'…
Thank you, again and again and again for being such a genius!

Words practically escape me... Slaying the Dragon is raw, edgy, unpredictable, and deliciously sexy!

It is skillfully written with an excellent story-line and characters that aren't just characters, but are real people; people with real feelings, real struggles, and real strengths. People you can't help but care for. From the cover to the very last page, T.K. Leigh has written a story that is captivating, intriguing, addictive, sexy, intense, gritty, thought provoking... a beautiful, overwhelmingly, emotional story of love and healing, second chances, moving on, family, and ultimately, love. It is a story that once you start reading, you won't want to put it down and it will stay with you for days after reading it.

Slaying the Dragon has every possible thing you want in a book... angst, drama, secrets, lies, action, suspense, turmoil, deceit, corruption, deception, cruelty, mystery, murder, revenge, fear, guilt, sadness, heartbreak, regret, forgiveness, pure unadulterated lust, scorching long love scenes, swoon worthy moments, and so many twists and turns thrown in, you will be hanging on the edge of your seat till the very end.

5 "Turtledove & lightning strike" stars

The continuation of Tyler and Mackenzie's story was still full of the key elements that made the first book a success. Mystery, suspense, passion, all-consuming love.

They say that it takes ages to learn to trust someone but only one lie to ruin it.

This was basically the premise of Mack and Tyler's story. For someone who had a hard time trusting people, Mack's world crumbled when she found out about Tyler's deception. But not everything is always black and white; more often than not, we are dealt with gray areas. The circumstances surrounding them were not as simple as they seemed.

Will their love for each other prove to be stronger than the mountain of lies on which it was built? Can she find the truth amidst the lies?

What I enjoyed most about this book was the fact that there was a lot going on - conspiracy, military cover-up and a whole lot more - but it never strayed from the love story between Mac and Tyler. All the elements of the story were done in a cohesive and solid manner that kept the story running smoothly and allowed the events that transpired to develop in a logical way which the readers can easily follow. At the same, at its core was this one great, all-consuming love between two people who were caught in the crossfire.

Even when all the necessary descriptions and suspense were taking place, it did not take over the whole story. It was brilliantly incorporated in the pains, love and sufferings of Mac and Tyler. The way the characters' broken and devastated emotions were portrayed was brilliant. It was easy to feel and imagine what they were going through.

There was something the author did that really threw me for a loop regarding one character in this book. If only for that, I gave my hats off to the author because not only was it unexpected, but it was a total contradiction to what I believed in when I read the first book. I'm not making any sense, I know, but trust me when I say it was the mother of all surprises.

The author definitely knows how to draw you in and keep you intrigued. Suffice it to say that just like the first book, the conclusion to Tyler and Mac's story was a sure hit for me.

I wanted to approach this book like it was a high-priced antique. I wanted to look at the beauty of the cover and the intrigue of the synopsis. I didn't want to rush it. I wanted to savor it. With this being the conclusion of Tyler and Mackenzie's story, I knew once I started, I would NOT be able to put it down. I would devour it whole, and I would look up and it would be over and I would be sad. My plan was to take it slow, but after staring at the cover and re-reading bits and pieces of Chasing The Dragon, Book 1 in the series, where it all began, I shot my plan all to HELL! There was no going back, and suddenly I didn't care anymore. I wanted, NO, I NEEDED their happily ever after like I needed another breath. T.K. Leigh has THAT much power of me. It's scary really! She is just too DAMN good at what she does!

T.K. Leigh once again, works her magic in the last installment of the Deception Duet series. She knows how to reel readers in from the get-go. With unforgettable characters and a suspenseful, sexy, and adventurous storyline, you will be hooked until the very last word is read. From the very beginning, there has been twists around every corner. I know you have questions. I had A LOT! Fear not, my romantic suspense junkies, SLAYING THE DRAGON will pull you from every single direction, making you crave more with every turn of the page. With its lively plot, heated sexual tension, surprising twists, and engaging characters, Leigh's latest is another WINNER!

If you are looking for something sexy, edgy, captivating, and emotionally gripping, the Deception Duet by T.K. Leigh is definitely for you! It is a MUST READ in my book, and it will always have a special spot on my bookshelf where I can look at it from afar and pick it up whenever the mood strikes, which will probably be quite a bit.

Slaying the Dragon is the second book to Tyler and Mackenzie’s love affair and I’m totally in love!

The Burnham boys are hard, determined, controlled and intense lovers. When they find the woman they love and desire, it’s a fight to the finish to make the situation work. Tyler is much like Alex in this.

T.K. Leigh takes us through the highs and lows, the twists and turns, and the ups and downs of figuring out whodunit and how the pieces of the puzzle fit together. I’m a fan of love, and she always gives us that in her books—it may not be an easy road, but we get there.

It was love, of that I am certain. It was for me anyway. Yes, it was messy, chaotic and wild, but aren’t the best love affairs just that?

This is the perfect line to sum up the way I feel about life, love and Tyler and Mackenzie’s story! This was an epic, wild, messy love affair! I can’t wait for more of the Burnham boys later!! ~ Heather, 5 stars

~~~
This is not a standalone and must be read AFTER Chasing the Dragon.
Tyler and Mackenzie. Oh, how I wanted to throttle you both at times while reading this book! They made mistakes we all have made, but it doesn’t make it any less frustrating.
I am not going into a summary at all with this review because if I do, we will be here all day. This book has so many twists and surprises, it’s like walking through a maze and never finding the way, until at last, you happen to see a sliver of light. And what you see in that light, is not at all what you expected.
There is also a love story behind all the mystery. And in that love story is a message of forgiveness. One that sometimes we all need to remember.
I have read every single book published by this author and have seen how the writing style has grown and progressed. I do have to say, though, that it was a little hard to follow at some points, and the characters (at least to me) seemed a bit immature. ~ Devlynn, 4 stars
Slaying the Dragon is the second book and the conclusion to the Deception Duet. Let me tell you this was rightly named the Deception Duet because this book keeps you glued to the pages wondering just who is deceiving who. From page-one my heart began to race and my blood pressure was rising with all that begins to unfold for Mackenzie and Tyler.
Slaying the Dragon is filled with so much emotion and tension, both sexual and otherwise. What's great about this duet is that not only do you feel Tyler and McKenzie but you feel the secondary characters as well. All your questions will be answered and you will definitely be surprised at some of the answers.
I could not put this book down and was sad to see it end. This is a definite five star must read!!!
T.K. LEIGH WILL SURELY SEAR THROUGH YOUR HEART & SOUL HOT WITH THIS HOT 5-STAR ROMANTIC SUSPENSE THRILLER!
“Slaying The Dragon: /slang/ …Today, the phrase has been broadened to mean overcoming a seemingly insurmountable obstacle, either internal or external.”
SLAYING THE DRAGON is the second and final novel in the Deception Duet. The novel begins immediately where CHASING THE DRAGON left us in suspense over the all the discoveries and secrets were uncovered.
"There's no black and white, only varying shades of gray hiding a kernel of truth."
Even though Tyler Burnham’s betrayal has left Mackenzie Delano a devastated woman, she still loves him and still wants him to be part of her life in the future. The two weeks they shared was the best two weeks she has ever had in her life, but was just a dream or did she find her “lighting strike”?
“The truth is, no matter how much I say I’m over you, you’re still on my mind. The truth is, despite it all, I don’t hate you. The truth is, despite it all, you made me feel, and I’d rather have felt something so f*ck*ng intense for you than to never have that memory at all. The truth is, despite it all, I still love you. And I always will.”
Tyler honors Mackenzie’s request to stay away, but Tyler is working on an assignment with his brother, Alexander Burnham, with the security company. While the assignment was only to be for a month, security took longer to ensure so the time was longer than planned. During the time away on the assignment, Tyler could not stop thinking about Mackenzie on their feelings for each other. So Tyler decides to returns with a new mission – Mackenzie’s Heart, to regain her love and trust again, because he realizes he cannot live without her.
“I’d rather wake up to an empty bed without you in it than wake up next to the wrong person every day for the rest of my life. You are it for me. You’re my turtledove, my lightning strike.”
I do not want to give anymore away, so when the facts start to unravel do not be surprise if the conclusion is a little SHOCKING!
“Grief is like a storm. It can be calm and refreshing, a way to finally close one chapter of your life. Or it can be as unforgiving as a hurricane. It can bring our world into the abyss of darkness and turmoil.”
Author T.K. Leigh’s romance novel, SLAYING THE DRAGON, wrecked my emotions with a roller coaster with many twists and turns feeling: SUSPENSE, LAUGHTER, COMPASSION, SADNESS, JOY, ANGER, TRAGEDY, DISTRUST, DANGER, FRIENDSHIP, FORGIVENESS, and LOVE.
“…there was an evil dragon who tried to keep the prince from his love. The prince knew he had to protect this woman from the monstrous beast who was trying to tear them apart, so he set upon a quest to slay the dragon and free his love.”
I rate T.K. Leigh’s novel in the Deception Duet Series, SLAYING THE DRAGON - 5 AMAZING STARS!
“I’d rather wake up to an empty bed without you in it than wake up next to the wrong person every day for the rest of my life. You are it for me. You’re my turtledove, my lightning strike.”
My Review:
Over the 5 months since I read Book 1 Chasing the Dragon – I had forgotten too many of the salient details I needed to make sense of Book 2. Busted - I will admit to brain slippage… as well as to reading too many books in between. I felt totally bewildered when I started Book 2 the first time, so I felt the need to actually reread the first book to comprehend what was happening with Book 2. But as I reread Chasing the Dragon anew, I was reminded of what an excellent job she had done, and what a gifted writer T.K. Leigh actually is. I bow down to the goddess. And this time I was not fuming and foaming at the mouth when I finished Book 1 with its heinous cliffhanger, as I now had all the answers waiting for me with Book 2 on my beloved kindle. Oh happy day – this is how is it SUPPOSE to be!
So now, smirking with self-satisfaction, I start Book 2 fresh with the knowledge of all that had gone before. And I was fascinated by the mystery, sucked in by the complicated and well-paced plot, and unable and unwilling to put the book down for long, despite the constant interruptions of the universe attempting to conspire against me! The writing was superb. The story was delicious, intricate, and intriguing; and I was committed, engaged, and engrossed. And as it finally answered all those nagging questions, I can now sigh with the fulfilment of a mystery solved while a steamy and passionate love story and HEA also transpired. Oh yeah, good times!
DAWN'S REVIEW
5 STARS
This book I have been waiting on from the day that I finished the 1st book. And it DID NOT DISAPPOINT!! I couldn't wait till this book to come out so that I could find out what really happened. But dang I wasn't expecting what I got. When you read this you are trying to figure out what really is happening and who is really is the whole time. Who is willing to kill to keep a secret that people are trying to bring to light. Who is willing to go to such great lengths to really uncover the past to keep it in the dark. This is one of the thrilling stories I have read and I couldn't get enough of it. Go take the ride and try to solve this mystery while falling in love with this couple coming to terms of a past that neither of them ever saw coming to the future.
TATIA'S REVIEW
4.5 STARS
We pick up where we ended in Chasing the Dragon. Lots and lots more drama in this book. I had to know what happened so I immediately became so engrossed in it and obsessed with reading. I literally read every second I could. If I was cooking dinner then my kindle was right beside the stove with me hunched over the counter. Thankfully, dinner didn't burn. So big thumbs up to the dinner gods there.
I felt like Mackenzie/Serafina could not catch a break. Between her life leading up to this point and finding out about Tyler the way she did, she's a strong girl for even continuing on. Thank goodness for her best friends, Brayden and Jenna. Sometimes that's all you need: a big bottle of your favorite wine and your best friends to trash talk whoever made you feel this way.
I felt like in Slaying the Dragon, the drama and action was just everywhere. I actually would have liked to of had more of the end part of the story, seeing how Mackenzie was once things calmed down and she was really able to settle down and enjoy life a bit. BUT, T.K. Leigh did a fantastic job creating a story that you can truly get lost in, one that has you on the edge of your seat trying to figure everything out and who is behind it all. You never really know who is telling the truth. It all just went to show that when things seem too good to be true, they usually are, and that how true the saying "keep your friends close and your enemies closer" really is.
I have anxiously been waiting for this book to release, dying to find out what Mackenzie is going to do with the knowledge that Tyler has deceived her. Will she run and never come back or will Tyler find a way to explain why he kept so much from her?
As usual, T.K. does an amazing job of weaving a tale of suspense, passion, deception, emotion, forgiveness, redemption and sexual tension, and it just leaves you breathless, not feeling like you'll ever get enough of the story to satisfy your thirst for these two broken but beautiful people.
T.K. weaves a tale full of twists and turns, planting clues along the way that cause you to follow one path, thinking you've figured out what is going on, when all along, the true story is heading down another path, one that eventually intersects with the one you're on and when truths are revealed, you're blown away with how complex and multi-layered this book is.
You have to read book 1, Chasing the Dragon before attempting to read this one or you'll be completely lost. So many questions from book 1, and even more in book 2 are answered and I had to constantly remind myself to slow down, not rush through the book to find out what happens. If you do that, you will definitely miss out on the true love story that develops between Tyler and Mackenzie. It is a beautiful love too, and the emotion between them is pure and soulful. Is it a strong enough love to survive the lies and deceptions that have occurred? And let's not forget the danger that Tyler is trying to protect Mackenzie from, all the while not knowing where it is coming from, who is behind it.
I can't wait for everyone to read the conclusion to Mackenzie and Tyler's story. I hate to say this, but Tyler has most definitely become my most favorite Burnham brother!
I was privileged to receive an ARC of this book from the author in exchange for my honest review.
Firstly, it is essential that you read Chasing the Dragon first to appreciate this book. Slaying the Dragon is a great conclusion to the Deception Duet series, the author brings us a brilliantly crafted suspense filled espionage style read that pulls on every emotion with an angst filled yet hot love story at it's core. I have to say that for me the author has outdone herself with this series, I have been a fan from the off of her writing style and ability to build on the angst and to and fro type of story and this series is all that and much more.
I was heartbroken at the end of the last book for Mackenzie and I was more than angry at the Burnham men for their treatment of her and I was really looking for some redemption in this book. So I was sad to find Mackenzie still left reeling from the fall out of her brief fling with Tyler and though he did redeem himself somewhat with his regret, the anger I felt all came flooding back for her as things progressed initially and Mackenzie once again put her shutters up. Though I loved the way that the angst between the two built up and that Mackenzie was strong enough to face up to the reality of their situation and wasn't an instant pushover in forgiving Tyler.
I loved the way the story played out and I think it was brilliantly executed, we are kept on the edge of our seats as the secrets are slowly uncovered and we're kept guessing until the end as to who was responsible. In the midst of the chaos of the truth and lies surrounding Mackenzie's father, she and Tyler are struggling to try and move past the broken trust of how they came to be but as they are pulled into the path of danger they are forced to face up to their feelings. I just loved Tyler and Mackenzie's story and yes he did manage to redeem himself fully, eventually.
A brilliant series and I really cannot wait to see what comes next from T.K. Leigh.
Slaying the Dragon is the final book in the Deception Duet by T.K. Leigh where every question the reader had after the cliff hanger ending of Chasing the Dragon. Tyler Burnham and Mackenzie Delano left the reader questioning the fate of their relationship due to the never ending sea of lies and deceptions that they fed each other since their clandestine meeting. Will they make it work or is their relationship doomed? Will Tyler actually let Mackenzie go like she asked?
When Tyler walks away as Mackenzie asked him to, his heart breaks because it is the last thing that he ever wanted to do. With his brother Alex, sending him to the other side of the world, Mackenzie is never far from his mind, and although he desperately wants to come home and try to make it right, Alex insists that it is too dangerous. Tyler resorts to keep a journal of his thoughts, hoping that one day Mackenzie will read it and know how much he loved her and still loves her despite everything that has happened between them.
Mackenzie finally realizes that she made a mistake in sending Tyler away, and decides to go to him, only to discover that he has apparently vanished into thin air. When she receives news that she never expected, she tries to move on with her life, forgetting about Tyler and what they shared, only to find herself thinking of him every moment. Rebuilding the walls around her heart that Tyler had torn down in such a short period of time, she doesn't expect to see him again.
Will Tyler return to Mackenzie? Will he fight for her? Will they finally discover the truth surrounding Mackenzie's identity after all these years? You will have to read to find out!
2 sleepless nights. Some amount of tissue. Snacks and drinks. Those are what you need while reading this book.
What does a girl have to do to escape the demons of her past? Change her identity, relocate, and start over. She tried to stay on track, on schedule. Suddenly this man enters her life, and everything she tried to hard to avoid was shoved right in front of her. What she doesn't know, there was a hidden agenda to why this man wanted to be close to her. But they both didn't expect to fall in love quickly, therefore upsetting the balance of both their lives. Lust, love, then lies. Trust was lost, hearts were broken.
In my opinion, this series is better than The Beautiful Mess. The intricacies this story has - how Ms. Leigh worked everything out, I just do not have the words. I can just imagine the research she has done, written notes on what she wants to happen, and maybe a flowchart on her desk on how she worked this all out.
I've shed tears, my chest heavy and hurting. This rivals the roller coaster of emotion I felt in The Beautiful Mess, but this seems heavier. Love. Lust. Loneliness. Fulfillment. Happiness. Just a few of the things you can expect to feel while reading this book. Every single character had an important role to play. Even little Melanie had her moments!
This book might be the best read of 2015 for me, and the year isn't even over yet! Murder - Mystery - Romance - Suspense, it's all there!
***SPOILER FREE***
I'm not going to lie, I was expecting something completely different than what T.k. delivered with the final installment of this duet but I'm glad it was because that just made the read even better and it shows that Mrs. Leigh is anything but predictable when it comes to her books'. There's so much suspense, mystery, heat and palpable energy that radiates of the pages', I couldn't put it down even if I wanted to. It kept me on the edge of my seat and my brain in a constant whirl wind. What made it even better, Tyler. His character truly developed and shined in this book. I can't forget about Mackenzie, the way she handled every curve ball thrown her way, really showed her strength, courage, love and big heart. The amount of detail involved in each chapter is brilliant, intricate and kept me on my toes the entire time. All of my favorite characters' are involved in this story one way or another and I fell in love with one particular person and it wasn't Tyler but Momma B - her wise words and warm ways just make you wish she was your mom. There were parts I wanted to scream because just when I thought I had everything figured out, the rug was pulled out from underneath me. Every bit of anxiety, breath-holding and talking to myself, was worth it!! I was definitely strung out after I finished this book, in a good way of course. My favorite part....well, you'll just have to read it to see for yourself ;)
T. K. Leigh did not disappoint me with Slaying The Dragon. I was so excited to finally have my hands on something that could answer my questions that left me hanging from Chasing The Dragon.
Starting from the beginning I was emotional, Tyler and Mackenzie's relationship was questionable and needed a miracle. Without spoiling anything their love will drive you crazy, make you cry, and at times frustrate the hell out of you, but it's so worth it. I did not fall in love with Tyler Burnham in Chasing the Dragon, in this story his character is different he seemed stronger, weaker when he needed to be and very determined. I have to say he gives his brother Alexander tough competition, I am loving the Burnham brothers.
Mackenzie still drove me crazy, but I love her strong character. Mackenzie faces her challenges with strength and determination. The love and passion that Tyler and Mackenzie have is so strong and steamy, I could feel it off the pages.
All your questions will be answered of why Mackenzie/Serafina's dad is in hiding and who is behind the murders? I can't forget... you will question which characters to trust.
Slaying The Dragon is suspenseful and at times will have you on the edge of your seat it will also keep you satisfied in the romance department.
I am such a big T.K. Leigh fan, my only disappointment is...What do I do now? How am I going to get my Tyler and Mackenzie fix?
4.5 stars
We pick up where we ended in Chasing the Dragon. Lots and lots more drama in this book. I had to know what happened so I immediately became so engrossed in it and obsessed with reading. I literally read every second I could. If I was cooking dinner then my kindle was right beside the stove with me hunched over the counter. Thankfully, dinner didn't burn. So big thumbs up to the dinner gods there.
I felt like Mackenzie/Serafina could not catch a break. Between her life leading up to this point and finding out about Tyler the way she did, she's a strong girl for even continuing on. Thank goodness for her best friends, Brayden and Jenna. Sometimes that's all you need: a big bottle of your favorite wine and your best friends to trash talk whoever made you feel this way.
I felt like in Slaying the Dragon, the drama and action was just everywhere. I actually would have liked to of had more of the end part of the story, seeing how Mackenzie was once things calmed down and she was really able to settle down and enjoy life a bit. BUT, T.K. Leigh did a fantastic job creating a story that you can truly get lost in, one that has you on the edge of your seat trying to figure everything out and who is behind it all. You never really know who is telling the truth. It all just went to show that when things seem too good to be true, they usually are, and that how true the saying "keep your friends close and your enemies closer" really is.
Once again T.K. Leigh has woven such a tale that will leave your head spinning and second guessing everything. If you intend on reading this one... you MUST snag the first, Chasing the Dragon.
When I started to read this one, I had to reread the first few chapters because I swear I was missing something but yet again it was one of Leigh's diabolical twists she loves to throw into play and I was blown away. My mind was still reeling from Chasing the Dragon and to continue on to Slaying the Dragon, it was beyond my wildest expectations. Leigh threw it all in there. More mystery and intrigue. The smoking hot chemistry. As well as the undeniable love that Tyler and Mack share. My heart broke so much for these two for what they were put through. I wanted to yell at some characters. I was laughing at some points. Most importantly, this book left me in a state of awe and shock due to the events that take place and the unexpected twists.
This book just melts off the pages and you devour it so quickly that it leaves you in a serious book hangover. I absolutely love how Leigh entangles these stories of romance and unbridled passion between the main characters with the aspect of crime, mystery and lots and lots of intrigue. I highly recommend this series and any other books by T.K. Leigh as you will not be disappointed!
This is the perfect follow-up to Chasing the Dragon. I don't think there could have been a better conclusion to this twisting and turning story.
First, let me start with letting you know that this the conclusion to Chasing the Dragon. It is not a standalone. You can't just pick up this book and read it without reading the first book.
I have debated how I wanted to approach this review. I had so many mixed feelings while reading this one. At times, I couldn't stan Mack. Other times my heart warmed for her. My feelings for her kept flip-flopping all throughout the book.
I wasn't much of a fan of Alex's for a while there in this one. I know, shocker. Everyone loves Alex. Well, his deceitfulness causes such heartbreak, I couldn't help but not to be a fan of his. Eventually, he redeems himself though. So, don't worry. I am not anti-Alex anymore.
Tyler. What can I say about Tyler? His heart is as big as Texas and his love for Mack won't ever fade. His love for her is his best motivator. I couldn't help but to love him from start to finish.
Like T.K.'s other books, this book is written with such meticulous intent and purposefulness, I couldn't help but to get lost in the pages. I was hooked from the get-go. With all of the lies and questions, T.K. had my mind reeling and questioning everything and everyone throughout this book.
Wow. This book is great. It is well written, smooth flowing and easy to read. I was completely captivated from the first page to the last. The characters and their emotions are depicted extremely well. You feel what the characters feel. The imagery is so vivid you can picture every scene as if it were happeneing right in front of you. Once I started the book I couldn't put it down.
You do need to read Chasing the Dragon first so you understand what's happening in this book. (Reading The Beautiful Mess series isn't necessary, but it gives you a little more insight to Tyler and his brother Alexander).
At the end of the first book, Mackenzie has just found out that she was an asset in an investigation Tyler pursuing for his family's private security company. She told Tyler to stay away from her and that is where this book picks up. Mackenzie is brokenhearted that Tyler used her to get information about her father. Tyler is beating himself up for hurting her. Will they find a way to repair their broken relationship? Will Tyler and Alexander ever get the answers they are looking for in their investigation into Francis Mackenzie Galloway (Mackenzie's dad)?
I highly recommend this book/series.
I don't know how she does it. She sucks you in with just a few words, and before you know it, you're mesmerized. Addicted. Craving the rush you get from the words on the page.
Words that excite, words that tease, and words that crush your heart.
T.K. is a master when it comes to creating not only hot as hell alpha males, but twisted suspense laced with sinfully sexy plots.
Slaying the Dragon is the follow up to Chasing the Dragon and MUST be read together. It is the conclusion of Mackenzie and Tyler's story and it is breathtaking.
I devoured this book, just like the first one. The story, the twists and turns and the raw, powerful emotion that flows between Mackenzie and Tyler is stunning. The chemistry between them is even stronger than in the first book.
I can't say more without giving anything away, but know this. T.K. has brought us another smoldering Burnham man and feisty female to tame him. She's given us another series that leaves you on the edge of your seat, not wanting to put it down for fear of missing something.
I don't know how she's going to top this series, but somehow I think she will do just that.
Slaying the Dragon is book 2 in the Deception Duet series.in this book we see how Tyler and Mack were affection by all the lies. in Chasing the Dragon Tyler was such a smooth talker. He said all the right things, he showed all the right moves, but once the truth came out Tyler knew he would lose Mack. All his lies catches up to him at the end of book 1.
Tyler is book 2 though... He was broken, hurting, and lost. At the beginning you see Tyler and he is so different. He is lost and he doesn't know what to do.
Mack is heartbroken, shes hurting. The man she gave her all lie to her. Mack is strong. shes a fighter. She knows that loving Tyler will never go away. She is angry and numb.
Fate has other plans for these two. After everything they have gone through... it seems like everything is falling into place for them. The author takes you on a ride with this story. There were so many unanswered questions in book and I'm glad everything came to light in book 2.
Tyler... Le Sigh! He charmed me with his attitude, and his sweet words.
I enjoyed this book. I will definitely recommend it.
Author TK Leigh has done an absolutely beautiful job with this story. I was kept on the edge of my seat with each and every twist and turn. This is one of the best romantic suspense books that I have ever read. The author was brilliant in wrapping everything up and did not leave us wondering with missed details.
Slaying the Dragon was full of detail, suspense, action and just the right amount of steam. This story was huge and I gobbled down every last word of it. Mackenzie and Tyler's characters are complex and their relationship is beautiful and gut wrenching to say the least. There were some unexpected surprise plot twists that I did not see coming. Will Mackenzie forgive Tyler? Whose really behind all of the treachery that leaves so many characters in peril? You MUST read Slaying the Dragon and find out.
Simply put, I was mesmerized by the characters, the plot and the indepth writing. Slaying the Dragon was better than I had anticipated.
