The more he uncovers, the less he really knows. So far answers to Daniel's past have taken him from the moon to Earth and Mars. Each memory recovered leads to yet more questions. Everything is about to change. When the survival of the humankind is threatened Daniel will have to put his own crusade for answers on hold. The last two members of the Pack Protocol will be found along with an intergalactic enemy hell-bent on mankind's demise.
I'm Jonathan, a husband, father, and writer. I write because that's what I was born to do and I love doing it. Because of the support from awesome people like you, I get to do it full-time.
“They can kill our bodies. But they can’t kill our spirits.” “Nobody gets out of this life without scars. Nobody.” What a blast! The war for mankind, a daunting reality and prospect. What a revelation! “It’s horrifying, dreadful, amazing, and shocking all at once.” If I thought the other installments were fantastic, this one is fabulous! I’ve only got exclamations for this story. And the cover art is one of the best in the series. Yanez has clearly outdone himself writing this premise. He’s got a prodigious imagination that I admire. Looking forward to reading Vendetta #4 soon!
This book should be sub-titled Fast and Furious (oh wait, that title's been taken!), so break-neck is the speed of the action in this new adventure, Fury, which is Book 3 in Jonathan Yanez' excellent apocalyptic survival series, Forsaken Mercenary.
Mr Yanez is like Marmite - you either love him or hate him (I love him by the way!) - but boy, he's endlessly versatile and creative when it comes to post-apocalyptic shenanigans! His hero is totally believable and relatable as he battles against ever-more-deadly and ruthless adversaries and adverse circumstances, (though on the plus side he also a team of allies, who are becoming more and more familiar) to try and reach home and the welcoming embrace of his family, from whom he's separated by half a continent. Will he put his Jason Bourne-like quest for the truth about his mysterious past in this Total Recall homage, that has already spanned Earth, Mars and the Moon in the previous two novels in this amazing series, on hold? Can he make it home?
Read Fury - by Prince of 'What if..?' Thrillers, Jonathan Yanez - an edge-of-your-seat thriller that will have you chewing your fingernails up to your elbows with the tension generated by this gritty futuristic drama...you'll never guess how it ends!
I am glad to see Daniel connect with Preacher, Then Angel and the others, it's better he gets more from them and knows they are still his family. Having the entire human race at risk isn't easy, having to work with the three who ordered his fiancee 's death even harder. But he has changed. He can do it because there is no other option. The allies he has made along the way may not be optimal, except for Sam, but they each have skills and are tough by necessity. Hoping he can get them to fight by his side and put differences aside,p he starts contacting them, he has enough in his mind with an alien species and then She shows up and throws another bomb for him to digest. The Order is the last group, first the cemetery, than the Order. And now for an altogether more important reason!
The story got really big--and really disappointing. Without any spoilers, I can say that the tech and characters got really simple and dumb. Instead of anything closely relating to cleverness or plot, they just blindly charge into everything and literally end up in hand to hand fighting--in a sci-fi world. There are situations with totally unrealistic plot points just to get them back to a hand to hand fight.
And as the world got big, it got basic. No creativity at all in the new realms. (Can't say more without spoilers).
I will try one more, but I'm on the edge of quitting this series.
I absolutely love when series transform from one thing to another. At the end of book 2 we are told aliens exist. So we went from a character battling against corporations in a futuristic landscape of a colonized moon and mars to now facing an impending alienate attack. It just keeps getting better and better. I also feel like this novel had more bulk than the first two books. The first two felt more like a TV episode or novella, a well rounded story that focusses more on one thing. This one felt more like a movie where we have multiple layers of plot going on - Which makes sense as the first two books set up a lot. Can't wait to jump into book 4
The stakes are high and as things start to come together its a constant page turner and of course the characters developments are working out great. Really enjoying the series and hopefully their will be a lots more to come.
An excellent series, I not looking forward to the last book! I always enjoy a first person book, keeping track of the characters is so easy, no thinking required, just go with the action :)
So, Daniel Hunt, former of the Pack, is now running with Preacher, another member of the Pack. Daniel is still not certain that he wants to be part of this “Pack”, although it seems that he was very much a part of it in his past live. Of course he has no memory of any of that past life. Bits and pieces of it are coming back because he keeps running into his former Pack associates. Preacher just happens to be the latest. Daniel is getting a lot of information from Preacher, but not the kind he wants to know. While the Pack was created, funded and fielded by the Immortal Corporation, Dan knows they also ordered the execution of one of their own, namely Amber. Amber and Daniel were deeply involved when the Pack existed. When she was killed on order of the Immortal Corp., Daniel was taken out of the equation to prevent him from trying to take out everyone. His memory was wiped and for the last five years, he had no idea of who he was.
Now, he’s in a transport ship going to the far side of Mars to look for an undiscovered alien colony! Since Mars and Earths moon had been colonized a long time ago, no one had ever dreamed of their being aliens. The idea of such was hard to accept and the Galactic Government wasn’t going to do anything about it if they didn’t have proof. So, Daniel and Preacher were going to see if they could get some of that proof.
Only, they got captured. And that’s what this story is about. They find out a lot of information about these aliens and none of it any good. They are growing their own army and it’s going to soon far exceed anything Mars has to stop it. it certainly isn’t going to be defeated just by the Immortal Corporation. How Daniel and Preacher get the proof they need is a good story. They are eventually joined by Angel and Jax who along with Sam (Samatha), Echo, Preacher, Daniel and Amber formed the Pack. These people weren’t your ordinary mercenaries. No, they had all been “enhanced” by the Immortal Corp. one way or another. While Daniel was incredibly strong and fast, he could also heal amazingly fast too. The others also had certain abilities which made the team almost unstoppable when they had a mission to complete.
Still, Daniel decides he might have to put his desire for revenge against the Immortal Corp. aside for awhile. This alien threat is real and it is almost more than humanity can bear. If humans are to continue to exist, they must unite against this very large and capable alien army.
Great writing and excellent story. I can’t wait for the next book in the series.
Well I've read every book in the series so far and now I'm off to read the next book in the series in the next book after that before I even go to sleep sleep is a crutch ..
This is an OK book. Don’t particularly care for the main protagonist.
I like some of the story elements in the series, I also like the artificial intelligence, I do not like that Daniel is operating under a handicap i.e. lost memory. This puts him at a great disadvantage. He doesn’t even know what all his abilities are. And why would the author keep the artificial intelligence X on the outside of his ear leaving her vulnerable to any miscreants in the series. In my opinion Daniel does not seem to be the smartest knife in the drawer. Sometimes he seems to be slow witted and slow acting and very headstrong. This sometimes seems to be to his detriment. Not a good look for a hero. If I was a Facebook user I would definitely ask these questions of the author. Like I said it’s an OK series and has some value to it, I will do every view after I read the next book.
I didn’t see that one coming! Jonathan has a great writing style and knack for creating a detailed and exciting storyline. Great character development, plots and subplots. If you haven’t started reading this series yet, put this on your must read list.
Recently a lot of the books I’ve read seem closer to game scripts, this series bucks the trend. There’s a strong story with likeable characters all wrapped up in well written prose. An excellent series that I’m thoroughly enjoying.
Well another great storyline from Jonathan Yanez. Things are starting to really hot up in Forsaken Mercenary really looking to Vendetta which I have already downloaded from Kindle lol
Wasn't sure what to expect most of the time when you get past the 2nd book the story goes flat this time well thought out story line very unusual am looking forward to the next book
