Shocked by the death of his brother, Jett is even more surprised to find that his brother was married with a young daughter.

I loved how Jett and his family eagerly welcome Holly and Clara into their lives, and doing their best to make her feel at home while getting to know them. Jett is a traditional oldest child, with a strong sense of responsibility and he wants to do everything he can to help his brother's widow and daughter. He is great with little Clara, and I loved how his mother and sister quickly befriend Holly.

A heartwarming and engaging read, with good character interaction, and strong faith. I loved how this story involved Jett's whole family. Holly is a devoted mother and a strong woman who owns up to regrets. I love a good cowboy romance, and this one is top notch. Highly enjoyable.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

“You’re the rock your family leans on, Jet. I lean on you, too. It’s incredible, really, to have someone so solid to rely on.”

Another wonderful addition to the Wyoming Ranchers series. I enjoyed Jet and Holly’s story so much that I devoured it in just one day. I think this one is at the top of my favorites list.

Holly’s had a rough luck with her past and has made decisions she’s not happy about. After her husband’s sudden death, she must move forward in order to supply for her daughter, Clara’s, needs. She decides to contact her late husband’s family in order to find closure. In this process, she discovers many surprises. Will Holly find the closure that she needs? Will her in-laws welcome her?

Jet Mayer has many family obligations in running the ranch and hasn’t really thought about finding the right person to make him happy. When he finds out his brother Cody has a widow, he wants to do everything he can to provide for them. Holly is very stubborn and independent so it’s really hard for her to accept Jet’s help at first.

I really enjoyed how the Mayer’s were really welcoming and wanted to include Holly and Clara in their lives. The Mayer’s are a really caring family. I enjoyed watching everything as it played out. Ms Kemerer once again had good character development that kept me intrigued in the story. Her use of faith, forgiveness, and hope plays a very important part in these stories. They keep me wanting more. I recommend this story. I received an advanced copy from the author. I was under no obligation to leave a positive review. All opinions stated here are my own.

Quick Review: A Cowboy to Rely on by Jill Kemerer

Delightful read. A life cut short ends up revealing lies and a stolen identity. Two broken lives are brought together to heal with romance burning in the candle light. I enjoy Jill's books. There isn't a sermon written in them but the themes of God's love and grace and present throughout. The mention of God giving life during a conversation with a friend was simple but powerful. I would definitely recommend you checking this out. For me, it was a quick read with depth but not so much that I couldn't read it while parenting several crazy kiddos.

I did receive an ARC of this but I give my reviews freely and honestly.

'This I know. God is for me. Always and forever. Amen.'

Jill Kemerer adds to her Wyoming Ranchers series here and tells a wonderful, sweet story. I do enjoy a good cowboy story and Kemerer does them very well indeed. She is always good and I enjoy her books so much. I can highly recommend this book. Great characters, good plot, sweet romance and good spiritual thread. And I saw some secondary characters whose stories I would like to read. Hint, hint.

My thanks to the publisher and author for a digital copy of this book. The review here is my own.

Finally, a 5 star Love Inspired book! It's been a long time since I read a Love Inspired book that met my 5 star standards, and this book really was a treat; I ate it in less than 24 hours!

💙Quick summary:
Jet lost his brother, Cody, to a car accident.
Cody had secretly married Holly, and after his death she gave birth to his daughter, Clara.
Jet finds out about Holly and brings her and the baby home to their Wyoming ranch to meet the whole family.
Jet and Holly end up falling in love, even though they both think it's wrong because she's Cody's widow.
Really great trope, and it was written pretty well!

⚠️SPOILERS AHEAD ⚠️

I LOVE the two main characters. Jet is perfect and Holly isn't annoying like most Love Inspired female characters are!
Everything in this book made sense, from Holly feeling like an outcast, not part of the family, very protective and scared for Clara, and lost, to Jet being overbearing on his family and him feeling so much grief about losing his brother, Cody. Most Love Inspired books have all these dramatic elements in their plot, but aren't written in well at all! Kemerer actually wove these bits and pieces into the story in an easy, realistic way. It made the book way better and more deep than most Love Inspired stories.

I like how Holly and Jet both got over their own personal problems and noticed that they needed to change up their lives and let go of them + their pain from the past. Jet actually took Holly's advice and became better for her instead of having a pride issue and sticking to his ways.

I loved the part where Jet was all upset and against Holly meeting his single guy friends! 🤣
"Yeah. Sounded real great. Now all his single friends would meet Holly—not that any of them were looking for a girlfriend, but her kind personality along with her
pretty face would turn any guy's head."
The jealousy was cute, Jet. 😉

Kemerer writing in how Cody had lied to Holly about a lot of stuff was a really good addition to the story. It makes sense and helps you root for Holly & Jet, instead of being sad that she lost Cody.
"While old stories weren't the entire reason she'd fallen for Cody, they'd been part of his appeal. The real Cody wasn't who he'd led her to believe he was.
She looked at Jet, still upset years later from having to make a snap decision that could have killed his dog, and she knew the truth.
She'd married the wrong brother.
She'd been in love with Jet all along."
💙Ooooooooooooo this part of the book grabbed me!! I loved it.

I really liked how respectful Jet was to Holly the entire book (I also loved how they always either met in person at the end of the day or talked on the phone to see how each other's days were!) about her being his brother's widow.
"I love you, Holly. I know you were my brother's to have and to hold till death do you part, but I can't keep pretending I don't want you for myself. So, if you're not over Cody, tell me and I'll accept it. But if you have a little bit of feelings for me-"

The end of the book where Jet and Holly were finally fully recognizing and talking about their mutual love was great; it wasn't too rushed or cheesy (like other Love Inspired books. Can you tell I read these a lot? XD).
Holly:
"When I met you, I was lost. Confused. As desperate as I've ever been. But you treated me with kindness, as if I mattered. And you were patient, understanding, especially about Clara. You took me in, gave me a job, gave me a family. The family Cody kept from me. I can't help but wonder if I was in love with the wrong brother all along. I was happy with Cody. I don't want that to ever be in question. But I love you. You're it for me."

I of course love how Holly married her brother-in-law. It's satisfying, makes sense, and it gives Clara a Dad, yes, but he's also her real blood! Very cool.

I've already read book #4 in this series, "Depending on the Cowboy" (Blaine's love story), and it was trash (1 star), so that's awesome that this one was so great. Weird how authors in the Love Inspired lines can't stay consistent. Some of their books are great and some are trash, HAHA!

TLDR: Great tropes, actually written well, and a great ending that isn't too rushed or boring.
Love how he proposes with his grandmother's ring (that Cody had previously stolen from Jet to propose to her. She has the ring back now and it symbolizes the love she has for both brothers)!

SO glad I read this.

For Jet Mayer the surprises just don't seem to end when he accidentally tracks down his late brother, Cody's wife - and baby. He doesn't have time for this, not with calving season coming, yet the responsibility and obligation is undeniable. He has to take them home to the rest of the family, a family that Holly thought didn't exist. In fact, a lot of what Holly thought she knew isn't adding up but the overwhelming desire to get to know Cody's family, especially Jet, is too much to fight. As Holly and the Mayers fill in the gaps together, she and Jet are forced to reckon with their independent feelings towards Cody and their mutual attraction to each other. Can Holly open her heart again and can Jet make peace with his late brother's memory in time for them to make a forever family after all?

This was such a sweet little romance. I adored watching Jet and Holly's relationship bloom despite the confusion of their situation. Author Jill Kemerer has a talent of making strong characters who are believable. Both Jet and Holly are tough-as-nails, albeit in different ways, yet they aren't immune to their own insecurities. Jet's process of grief is not only relatable but it's also obviously sincere. He's concerned about unintentionally replacing Cody yet furious with his brother's charade. How could he not be? Meanwhile Holly is trying to be brave for her little girl and stay true to herself at the same time. Talk about a damning debacle. In addition to her beautiful characters, I loved Kemerer's writing style and the scenery she creates. I want to work at the ranch/candle shop and fall in love with a rancher too! I gave this book four out of five stars and would recommend to anyone seeking love after loss romances.

The book starts off with an interesting trope. It is not just a secret baby trope, but also a wife no one knows about on one hand, and a whole secret family on the other hand. Cody Mayer may have upset me at first for keeping the truth about and from his wife and family, but by the end of the story, all I could feel was compassion towards the young man who himself never had a chance to learn that he became a father. This was interesting how Cody's presence was woven into the story up to the very end.

There are also two other tropes intertwined in a way I have never read before. The most powerful and conflict-generating one was the forbidden love tope. But it had nothing to do with feuding families, race, nationality, or lopsided social status. All the denying for a possible happy future takes place in the minds of the main characters. And it proves to be quite a battlefield because the characters also follow the friends to more trope.

There's a lot going on, but it does not get confusing. Quite the opposite, it is very enjoyable and encouraging to read how the characters overcome their fears, see themselves grow and mature, become more courageous, realize their shortcomings and mistakes, and prayerfully try to change and fix situations.

The Mayers' sisters candle business scenes are a treat. I could almost smell the candles through the pages.

Great book 2 in the series. I love the characters

Jet goes to find the woman who briefly attended his youngest brother's funeral. What he finds is an unknown sister-in-law Holly and his surprise niece Clara. He convinced Holly to come home and meet all the in-laws she hadn't even known about. While she is there she falls in love with all of them but especially Jet. However, it all seems too good to be true, and that is when things always fall apart for Jet it seems. Jet is struggling with his feelings for his brother's widow. She makes him feel so much more than expected, but she is his brother's, if that makes sense. Can they both come to grips with a new reality, or will they lose everything?

The pace is engrossing and the tone is uncertain yet hopeful with a character oriented storyline that has some kisses but no steam. The characters are vivid and engaging, including all the secondary ones. The Christian ideals are subtly woven into the story, but still play a part. I would read these books in.order, but know that I think the true next book in this series is a part of the K-9 Companions series called The Prodigal's Holiday Hope. Then you can read book 3 in this series! Enjoy this gentle cowboy romance.

Have you ever read a book where you wanted to call up the author and ask, "How did you get into my mind?!"

This is my third Jill Kemerer book and I already knew I would love her writing. Specifically, I love how her action beats breathe life into her characters. And, of course, the romance.

But "A Cowboy to Rely On" ... woohee! I feel the way Jet does when it comes to control issues, "new experiences" that are just out of reach in a world of lots of responsibilities. And I also get Holly, too, and being passed up as less-than. So, pretty much every page I'm sucking in my breath and saying a prayer because -- ouch! Oh, Jesus, I need You!!

Listen to these quotes and see what I mean:

"He wanted everything to stay the way it was."
"He didn't believe it turned out all right if you gave up control."

And then, because this is Kemerer, we have this too ...

"He asked God for the light yoke only He could give. From now on, he wanted to be in step with Jesus."

And being shaken up (and brought together again) is why we read, right? Oh my goodness, I'll be reaching for another Kemerer book soon!

We’ve all experienced a time in our lives where we feel forgotten, overlooked, or on the outside, so Holly is easy to relate too. On the other end of the spectrum, Jet is doing everything he can to keep his family from more harm and pain.

The Mayer family is so likable, I just wanted to hang out with them throughout A Cowboy to Rely On by Jill Kemerer. This book takes a different approach to stolen identity when Holly discovers her deceased husband wasn’t the man he presented himself to be. Not in a criminal way, but in one that presented the man in a better light than his past would show.

I appreciated the friendship Holly and Jet formed while each tried to fight their attraction. And bonus: Big strong cowboy with a sweet baby girl. That’s like catnip to this particular reader. I’m looking forward to visiting Sunrise Bend (and hopefully the Mayer family) again soon.

Set in Sunrise Bend, Wyoming and populated with realistic, engaging, and relatable characters, A Cowboy to Rely On is the second in Jill Kemerer’s Wyoming Ranchers series. Kemerer is a pro at writing small-town, sweet and charming stories that warm the heart, and this one fits perfectly into that scenario. Jet Mayer is a fantastic hero—family-oriented, loyal, and compassionate. When he discovers that his deceased brother has left a wife and daughter in destitute circumstances, he brings them to his family’s ranch to heal and get back on their feet. Holly is resourceful, hard-working, and independent, but she realizes she needs some help. Jet’s family is just what she needs. Little Clara steals everyone’s heart and adds to the enjoyment of the story.

For a delightfully charming, sweet and clean read, this book is sure to melt your heart and leave you wanting to meet more Wyoming ranchers.

This is the second book in Jill Kemerer’s latest series, a Wyoming Ranchers Romance. This series is about a group of young ranchers that have sworn to remain unmarried. The author has good characters, good storyline, and writes with heart.

Jet Mayer is surprised to find out that his late brother, Cody, was married and has a child. Jet meets Holly and her baby, Clara. Holly is sick, unemployed, and barely getting by. He takes her to the ranch to meet the family, a family that Holly didn’t know existed.(Cody had told her he was an orphan!) One has always felt unimportant and tossed aside, the other feels like they need to control everything in order to keep the ones he loves safe. Can they learn what it means by “God is for us” and how walking in step with God can mean letting Him lead.

Jett is the kind of cowboy we are all looking for. He's responsible, humble, hardworking, and easy on the eyes. When he finds out that his recently deceased brother left behind a widow and an infant daughter, what else would a man like that do, but step up to help them?

Holly struggles to trust after a lifetime of people fading out of her life when things got tough. She's used to going it alone, and she'd determined to take care of little Clara as best she can. Relying on Jett and his family doesn't come easy to her.

The fact that she was married to his brother is a conflict that they both fight against. Forbidden love, of a sort, but it's handled in a tasteful way.

Kemerer had me from the opening scenes of this book. I loved the entire premise. Jet seeks out his dead brother’s widow to get some closure only to find Holly sick and in desperate need of help with her baby.

Kemerer writes wonder and diverse male main characters and Jet’s character delights readers. He is honorable and wants to help all those around him. Yet he must learn to examine his motives for his behavior and come to terms with the loss of his younger brother.

The romance that blossoms between Jet and Holly was handled delicately by the author. Each character tries to reconcile with the idea that they are falling in love with someone who would have been off limits if Holly had not been widowed.

The secrets revealed as the story unfolds made it very difficult to put this book down. I read it in one afternoon and evening because it hooked me so deeply. I would strongly recommend this book to fans of contemporary, inspirational, clean, Christian romance.

Genre: Contemporary Romance, Inspirational Romance, Christian Romance
Location: Wyoming
Romance: Very clean. Light kissing.
Faith: Strong message of applying faith while working through grief and accepting help from others.

Author Jill Kemmerer always gives us a good, clean, heartwarming story and they usually contain an adorable child. This one is no different! Throw in a handsome cowboy and you have a relaxing must read.

Secrets don’t stay hidden. God doesn’t let us continue to feel alone and unwanted. Often, love is just around the corner. If you enjoy a relaxing, quick read that has depth both relationally and spiritually, then I highly recommend A Cowboy to Rely On.

Holly finds herself in a very difficult situation. Sick and unemployed, she needs a way to provide for herself and her infant daughter. What a shock to find out her late husband has a wonderful family that he never told her about!! Her brother-in-law, Jet, is just as surprised to learn that his brother had married and kept it a secret. While Holly has an uncertain future, Jet has a past that deals addressing. The two find a true friend in the other, and the start of something more!
Beautiful story of fresh starts, forgiveness, and how faith in God can make all things new!

I couldn’t put it down

“A Cowboy to Rely On” is another great book by Jill Kemerer. This story of Jet finding out his brother, Cody, had been married and had a precious baby girl none of his family knew about… As Jet convinces Holly to return to the family’s ranch and she becomes involved in the women’s candle making business, they both struggle to deal with their pasts and learn to trust God for their future.
