What is that voice in your head was Death, a god-like being
Born different. That phrase has controlled humanity for eons and the ‘people’ of this world see non-beast races as less than themselves. Ophelia on the other hand hates them all, she blames the cultivators for ruining the world. As our MC is a pure blood human with no tails, he is harassed and looked down on by the beastly cultivators. Thankfully for Ophelia that works just fine as the pact they have requires him to kill to grow in power and well he’s has found that to his liking due to the pleasure that he gets after kills. It’s a drug like high that has no comparison for him. He has grown quickly on strength and drawn attention from a powerful sect, now he just has to survive getting in through their gates. Oh and then survive when he shares information that tears apart the sects leadership - in his first week there.
Great story within a cultivation world of a misfit who has the potential to outgrow the planet… with enough deaths.
The first book was a fun, if shallow, litrpg and cultivation mashup. I had hoped the second book would lack the pacing issues of the first, explore the cultivation system and world with maybe some character and plot development. Instead we get smut, poor dialogue, and no plot. I'm disappointed.
This book gave me more “little deaths” than I could count
I really enjoyed this one. Dean did a great job building upon the characters he introduced in the first book.
There were several parts that had me actually chuckling. I especially like the running gag of the slap quest throughout the book.
The stats are done particularly well and you can tell that a great amount of care and effort went into them.
Another aspect I enjoyed was the cultivation. It was well done, and the way the author paired the cultivation with the skill progression really kept me engaged throughout.
This one is pretty dialogue heavy, which may or may not be a good thing in your opinion, but I really enjoyed the interactions throughout the story.
I dont understand all the 5 star reviews. Book 1 Had a complex but good premise, the world building had potential but then it turned into confusion. The characters morals are inconsistent at best and the voice in his head is equally as Bi polar. The plot and villains dont make much sense out side the "i gotta rescue my mom but gotta become a monster to do so but i am morally in the right but i will kill even people that show kindness to me but i will help people and not abandon them but exp......" -_- I finished book 1 cos momma aint raise not btch. Book two....5hrs in with the ridiculous tangents and Subplots WITHIN subplots and deviant powers and forced humor in Spots that dont make sense and how bipolar EACH character seems to me.....yeah i tap out. ANOTHER series i couldn't finish from this author folks. Sigh

I like the story and the characters. My main gripe is that the voice in the MC’s head comments on everything. Every action is preceded and followed by extraneous commentary and conversation to the point that it interferes with plot progression. In this case, less really is more. I hope the author can balance this out a bit in the next book. These interactions have the potential to be really funny and could add a ton to the book if there weren’t so many.
Death's Favorite Warlock book 2 is every bit as funny as the first one. Love the way the main character keeps turning conversations that are meant to be bullying into something that embarrases the ones trying to do the bullying. Lots of snark, plenty of action, and some over the top verbal jousting make this book well worth the read. The LitRPG elements are just a plus.
This one just seemed lesser on most aspects compared to the first. Less philosophical, less murderhobo, less vengeance, less adult, even less progression. I’m also not sure if it’s still trying to satirize cultivation novels or is just fully embracing it now.
I’m not a big fan of harem novels (and didn’t think this would turn into one), but what’s the point of surrounding the MC with women if he isn’t going to anything with them??
I have enjoyed the first book, but the second book not much at all. The saving up of huge amounts of stats just really gets to me, if I had life and death fights ahead of me, I’d put in each point I can, I just find it so dumb. Further the main Mc went from interesting to plain boring, skittish and childish, where is the fun guy from the first book?
I was so absolutely dissapointed when I turned the last page only to realize the book was over. This had to be one of the most captivating and entertaining books I've read in ages. If Charles was into dudes I'd proposition myself just in attempt to get him to turn this series out faster. I need more!
Got really excited for this one. Here I am, 2 days before my final exam, reading this freakin masterpiece of humor and murder wondering about my own sanity. Well done mate, well done. I'm definitely recommending this to all my friends then forcing them to read it.
There is a lot to love about this series. Good action, an interesting system, and memorable characters. Admittedly, the story is a little silly sometimes, and the humor is expansive, but it does not detract too much. Overall, I am very interested in what happens next! Recommend!
Another great read! All of his books have been fantastic and entertaining. The quick jabs and witty banter have me laughing out loud (to the annoyance of my wife). I feel for Miller knowing that his church turned from his righteous brutal murders to a peace loving cult. Excited for more butchering, lightning Qi expressions, and dances in the next book!
I literally laughed constantly reading this book. For everyone who ever borders what us wrong with the main character. Just kill them already read this book. For everyone who enjoys verbal banter and a MC who can destroy them with word twisting there idiot attackers before destroying them READ THIS BOOK!
Less murder hobo-ey than the first book. I don’t know if that is a good thing or not. I do love some good murder hobo content and there is some murder hobo content. There is a lot more background on Ophelia with the inner dialogue which is abundant. These conversations bring a lot humor to the book. I I’m curious to see where things go in the next addition.
What a shame... Great world, mechanics and characters. The never ending references, over characterization of certain situations and the constant flux to justify the MC’s OP balance makes this book a mess. I won’t be reading the next one. A shame… One of the few times I liked the beginning more than when the story stars to move along. Funny but turned cringe-worthy fast… Not worth it imho.
I kinda liked the word play, but some of the humor seemed a bit forced. When the fighting and cultivation portions were the focus it almost brought the story back to fun. I will say I enjoyed the story, but the first book was better. This one had the potential to be better.
This may have been the best novel I've read all month. I loved the main character's development in both emotions and power. His growth regarding relationships was especially satisfying. I'm looking forward to the next.
Great addition to the series, learning more about the world and Ophelias background. Can't wait for more to come and the MCs deepening understanding of the cultivation world.
Being comfortable running around naked because all the fights keep destroying your robes. Yep sounds like a murderhobo to me. I’m enjoying this series and am looking forward to seeing how it grows
Charles Dean hits it out of the park once again with the latest installment in the tale of a young cultivator haunted by death... Or host to the goddess of death.
I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this series. I am presently upset that I don't have another in the series to read. Strong characters, an unforseen plot twist, adventure. A most excellent read.
The world building in this is pretty good and the character writing for the MC the voice in his head is great. Unfortunately it has that issue where the MC collects a girl and older ones are forgotten. I do want to learn more about the world and how it got into it's current state.
This story has a lot of blood shed if you’re looking for a regular hero this is not that book. If you’re looking for a story of a guy who is a dark hero that gets stronger from killing this is the book for you.
4.5, Excellent for what it is. Light, humorous (a bit lewd) and entertaining. There are still way too much stats tables (as in every chapter+ even when not needed), but those are simple and not overly long. It was over too soon, can't wait for the next one.
4.5 stars. Fun, but lacking that extra that would put it over the top. I really don't have much else right now, but I'm straight into book 3, so that's the biggest indication that it was worth my time.
Yep it's official I can't read anymore it's just too stupid and I sane. This is an absolute mess of psychosis. Not worth going forward as it never gets better. It only goes deeper and deeper into the rabbit hole of innuendos and things that should not mix.
