Weeks ago I was steadily gaining their trust, finding my place in their lives and their beds. Now, it seems I’m the wedge driving the three of them apart.
I’ve been beaten, starved, and kept in the dark. All to come back to three men who can’t agree whether I’m an ally or a mole. But we have bigger problems to solve.
There’s a new player in the game.
The latest contender for the Dulca throne just so happens to be my favorite cousin. He was my best friend, my partner in crime. If I can get my boys to trust me long enough to keep them from starting a war, my family’s secret weapon could end up being the key to bringing our organizations together.
But I have no clue what Motshan is hiding up his sleeve, and we might not be able to come back from the carnage it could cause.

Liars is book two in the Triad Series and Scars should be read first. I devoured this book. On my dark scale, it’s dark gray.
Did I read this book in one sitting? Yes, I did.
Was I anxiously sitting on the edge of my seat to see what happened after that cliffhanger on Scars? Yes
Did the author deliver a dark book that leaves you wanting more? Yes
Is the book full of steam, spice, and everything dark? Hell Yes. It’s the cherry on top.
Scarlet is one of my favorite heroines, what she goes through and is a true badass. The girl doesn’t break, at all. And don’t get me started on her family.
I love all the Triads, but Elliot is still my favorite. I know, I know. He is an alpha hole; I love them. Sebastian still makes me laugh and is unhinged, you have to love Tristan, fierce and loyal. They would do anything for their girl. We now have a new character in the play and talk about his complexity. He definitely adds bumps in the road.
I am literally and figuratively in shock with that ending. Talk about a cliffhanger. I have so many questions.
The author has become one of my favorite dark romance authors, and for good reason. She doesn’t shy away from details and writes completely out of the box. Her words just flow effortlessly off the pages and have a vivid imagination.
Who’s ready for some more of Scarlet and the Triad?!?! Liars is about to hit KU soon and after the way Scars ended, there’s some answers I couldn’t wait to get!
First things first, Scarlet’s family are a bunch of assholes, can we all agree on that? And after getting kidnapped at the end of book one, I expected a bumpy ride … and oooh lord was it!
But no one stands between Sebastian, Tristan and Elliot and their girl. Even reunited, it’s clear their enemies weren’t going to let them settle. And the introduction of a new character throws some serious new hurdles into the mix.
The real star of this book are the characters! Scarlet, no fear, IDGAF, and all about her guys. Seb with his balance of funny and crazy. Tristan and his loyalty, his devotion to this family they’ve made. And Elliot, the stubborn asshole and his heaps of baggage who FINALLY decides to go all in.
Well we certainly didn’t get all the answers. We got some more questions, a crap ton of steam, some fun banter, and a cliffy that has me totally wanting more!
Oh I made it to 40% before it made me so angry I just had to quit. She was beaten and tortured for weeks and is still healing when “Elliot” starts torturing for info then right after hurting her they have s*x? WTH!? Just no
Overall, I enjoyed this. It kept my attention and was entertaining. I liked the writing and the multi POV. But, unfortunately, I did have a few issues with it (just has to do with personal preferences and my expectations/hopes going into it🙃). I usually like fast-paced reads, but this was a bit too fast-paced for me. And it felt like the cliffhanger from book one was resolved too quickly and easily. There wasn’t enough conflict, angst, or buildup in this for me. And there was too much smut for my liking. I would have been fine with it had there been more plot, action, suspense, and/or character development. It just felt like they all started having sex immediately after getting Scarlet back, and I was like really? Already? With the state she was in and what she had been through? I was not expecting it to go from 0 to 100 so fast. And it seemed like the only way they could connect with each other, showed they cared, or take care of her after her ordeal was via orgasms🤦🏻♀️. There weren’t any deep, meaningful scenes or conversations had, in my opinion. And I kept waiting and hoping for some. Everything just felt too light and shallow… like sex was pretty much the only way the relationship development in this was shown. And it was constant. Like everything was about sex and how hot they were for each other and how they couldn’t keep their hands off of each other. Again, I would have been fine with this, if there had been other non-sex-related scenes in between these to break it up and keep things interesting. Don’t get me wrong… the sex scenes were well written, but they were so frequent, they became boring and didn’t add anything to the story, so I started skimming them. They just felt like something I had already read a million times over. Idk maybe I’m just getting burned out on RHs and/or books with constant smut? I liked the action/suspense at the beginning and the end and wish there had been more of it in the middle. Or just something else happening besides all the safe-house sex🙃. Sadly, this left me feeling a bit unsatisfied and slightly disappointed. I was left wanting more plot. More action. More suspense. More character development. More non-sex-related relationship development. More depth. More emotion. Just more. Also, I liked Scarlet, Sebastian, and Tristan, but I didn’t really like or connect with Elliot in this. He was interesting and well written, and we got to understand more of his past and why he is the way he is, but idk he was just too asshole-y for me, especially after what Scarlet had been through. Again, this just has to do with personal preferences. Overall, I enjoyed this. It was a fun, fast-paced read with a decent amount of action and suspense, but I was left wanting more plot, more depth, and less smut. I’m still curious to see what happens in book three, though, and how the story ends.😊
I'm not rating these books, because the gore in some of these sexscenes is not something that I want to recommend or play down. Getting off on torturing someone else is not something I'm into and made me skip those scenes. Plotwise this got a little more substance than the first one. I kept yelling at Scarlet for being so trusting of someone she hadn't seen since she was 10, but lets be honest: nobody reads these books for the plot anyway. And we ended with a DAMN CLIFFHANGER AGAIN. Interested to see where the story ends after that ending.
TW: bloodplay, people getting shot and stabbed, torture, kidnapping and being tortured, sexual arousal because of torture (eww).
This was soooo goood. Like absolutly amazing. I physically could not put it down. Started reading it at 8pm finished at midnight. I do not regret a second of it. Totally recommended. 10/5⭐️
4.5 stars. That cliffhanger was brutal, but I get it. You gotta have a dramatic cliffhanger to build interest, excitement, and urgency to read the third book. I liked that everyone is finally together at the end of this. But it wasn’t as much fun as the first. I mean, the first book was just a Little bit better, in my opinion.
I liked Scars a lot, but this book was SOO MUCH BETTER. I absolutely DEVOURED this book in like 2 hours. These guys are HOT!! Especially Elliot - phew. That man is a freak. Did someone say new favorite?? Scar's guys are also such simps - they will do anything for her. And I love it. Dana's books have me in a chokehold. I just love her sm. She understands the assignment when it comes to books on the shorter side that pack a MASSIVE punch. I can't wait for Omens!
This comes out this Friday 11/26!! Definitely run to get it then :)) Thank youu my loves Dana and TalkNerdy for the ARC!!!
I won’t be continuing this trilogy… this book was already pushy enough and I honestly don’t wanna deal with the third one … I like Sebastian, I like Tristan … unfortunately I don’t like Scarlet (main character) or Elliott … soooo, yes, it’s enough for me.
I didn’t write a review for “Scars” back when I first read it because I wasn’t in the business of writing book reviews back then, and I initially didn’t write a review for this book either when it first came out, because November of 2021 was a busy month for me last year. But, in preparation and celebration of the third book in this series, “Omens”, coming out tomorrow (May 6th, 2022), I re-visited the book and decided to sit down and write it a proper review.
“Scars” was one of the first mafia RH romance I read and instantly adored when I started reading RH romances. I loved Scarlett’s spunk, sass, and how much she reveled in her own sexuality. This wasn’t some shrinking violet of a mafia princess being held in her gilded cage until Daddy marries her off to some suitable other mafia family. No. Not Scar. Scar ran away from that life when she saw what her dad had intended for her and ran straight into the life like a character in a Billy Idol or David Bowie song: “You've torn your dress / your face is a mess / You can't get enough / but enough ain't the test”, disappearing into a world so far away from the one of a mafia princess she thought she’d made a clean escape, only to find out there were three young upstarts that had done a lot of diligent homework in tracking her down to hold her for ransom.
Only, by the end of “Scars”, they’ve only held her up, while she’s holding their hearts for ransom even as a then-unknown enemy takes her from them in the night.
That’s where “Liars” open up: with Scarlett in the hands of her apathetic and anonymous captors; and her three boys (Sebastian, Tristan, and Elliot) frantically searching everywhere for her while flipping their lids, blaming themselves, blaming one another, trying to figure out what went wrong, and trying to contemplate what the next steps will be once they get their Scar back. Elliot, in particular, has a whole bunch of issues he needs to work out with Scarlett without interference, since he still has issues with her and wants to clear the air once and for all with her before they move on.
What I love so much about Dana’s books is that she doesn’t waste page space on the mundane. This is the middle book in a reverse-harem mafia romance series. No one’s interested in any deep, philosophical conversations here. No one is in the mood for sweet, intimate conversations about love. There’s no time for it with the stakes at play. With every hour and every day that passes, there are movements happening and deals being made that affect everyone in the book in some way. These people will be lucky if they live to see the next week and they know it. Dana knows her characters and knows her plot. She knows not to insult her readers by insinuating they have time to spend the whole morning in bed laying around talking when the enemy could be taking action against them right then and there. No time to shoe shop when a hit could be going down across town.
Business first, Netflix and chill second.
The dialogue is trademark Dana: witty, quick, intelligent, never too smart for the average reader but never too dumb to come across as patronizing to smarter readers.
The cons? I saw both turns coming a mile away. I’ve started to take this as a ME problem, since I review books full-time. I’ve only had about three books in the last six months actually surprise me with their turns. I’m going to chalk it up to a hazard of the profession. The only other con I have is how quickly it took Scarlett to recover from her torture and imprisonment, but since the timeline on how long it took was fuzzy, I can’t find it in myself to be overly picky.
Make sure you pick up Scars, and then read this book, before you pick up book three in The Triad series, “Omens”, out tomorrow, May 6th, 2022. You won’t regret spending time with Scar and the boys!
I read “Scars”in a day and when that book ended, not only was I devastated that the next book in the trilogy hadn't been released, but I was desperate to read it. So when an ARC for “Liars” showed up on my Kindle, I legit dropped everything and devoured it.
Liars picked up right where Scars ended and I was drawn in immediately. This book does not skimp on the spice while working to develop the characters we met in book 1. I found myself tapping through the pages at lightning speed, just inhaling her words off the “page.”
We finally got to see Scarlett and Elliot together which I was so excited to read. He went from being the brooding man in the corner to true development and revelation of his character. And oh man, their scenes were STEAMY (Finally!!).
The book did not disappoint, and of course ends on another cliffy...when does book three come out??!?
Dana Isaly is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors & for good reason: every time I pick up one of her books, I'm instantly consumed & determined to finish (and each and every time I pick up one of her books I can’t sleep until I finish it!).
**I received an ARC (advanced reader copy) of this book in exchange for my honest review.**
Recomendado 100%
I don’t know how to leave a review for this book without giving away any spoilers. They do have a lot of relationship building in this book. But the twists in this book are crazy! I never seen them coming. I’m in love with this series. I love all the characters! But that CLIFFHANGER now Dana that was just messed up to leave us hanging like that! Y’all need to read this series but check for TW! 20 out of 10 ⭐️ chefs kiss 🖤🖤🖤
I have loved this series so far! The triad may be bad, but they are hot!! Scarlet was rescued by her men after being beaten badly. Now they are trying to help her get better and figure out what her dad is doing. Seb and Tristan are falling fast for her, while Elliot is just letting her in. I can't wait to see what book 3 brings.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I need to start off with a little rant because Liars is guilty of something I hate. Namely, a huge gaping gap between the release of two books in a series. I hate when I pick up a book and it’s been so long since I read its predecessor that I need a TV-style “previously on…” to remind me what the first one was about. I’d love to be one of those people that has the time to re-read the start of a series before picking up the latest, but I’m not. And with the state of my TBR I never will be either.
Despite requiring a recap for Scars (book 1), I managed to pick up the story in Liars pretty quickly, probably helped by the fact that it jumps almost straight into the action without any hanging around. The first few chapters mix between immediately after the end of Scars and two weeks later. While I was still getting my bearings this was a little confusing, but if you’ve recently read Scars or have a better memory than me, you’ll be just fine.
Having rescued Scarlet from the clutches of their enemies, the Triad waste no time in getting to know her again. Yes, of course, I mean physically. Isaly writes hot sex far too well to leave it for the end of the book. I really felt for Scarlet’s battered body when the action started, but in her words, “I need this.” You can’t deny a girl her needs!
One-third of the Triad isn’t so comfortable with Scarlet’s return. Elliot and Scarlet certainly have some trust-building to do before they can get on with the rage-fucking that we’ve all been waiting for. Damn! He was far more brutally angry than I expected once he finally got her away from the protection of Sebastian and Tristan. But we all know hate equals lust and a bloody good story.
Scarlet knows what she wants and is not afraid to reach out and grab it. She riles Elliot up so they can both get what they need while he works out his demons. Even more beautiful is the way in which she gets off on being tortured by him. Seriously, I’m going to have to find somewhere to buy a police baton now…
Once Scarlet and Elliot have ironed out their differences, the book slows down in pace. I don’t blame it; the characters have things to do which aren’t exactly action-filled. Like two of the guys finding their girl a Christmas present. The trouble was before I knew it I’d read to 84% and hadn’t even realised the story was ready to come to a close.
Reading the last few chapters of the story, I wanted to hope for a happy for now. I could see it dangly so beautifully in front of me. Instead, I was left with an amazing cliffhanger, packed with death and destruction, betrayal and guns blazing. I’m not sure after that one that things will ever quite be the same for the Triad.
Liars is a well-written book although the pace isn’t terribly consistent. It’s fallen into the classic trilogy trap of a lull before book three. My main issue with this is having to wait until April for the next book, Omens, to be released. If I knew I only had to wait a few weeks it would be much easier to keep this book in my mind but in another four months, it will just be a memory of another story I enjoyed.
WHY YOU SHOULD READ LIARS * The baton (when you’ve read that part, you’ll thank me) * Amazing tension and reconciliation between Scarlet and Elliot * A slightly unhinged but incredibly strong FMC
How am i going to wait for book 3 just when i thought the cliffhanger in book 1 was bad this takes the cake that cliffhanger is the mother of all cliffhangers my heart is shattered into a million pieces! Scarlet and her boys oh how i love them so much! Sebastian i mean you could get over this sweet but psycho he just loves scarlet so much Tristian as much i love them all my weakness is tristian the pretty boy who even tho to the outside it doesnt show as much but i honestly think he fels the deepest for scarlet he would love to keep her to himself but he doesnt for her and how much he cares Elliot oh man its always the quiet, brooding and grumpy ones that turn out to be the freakiest lol! And damn does he deliver in this book!! Scarlet shes still one of my favourite heroines ever she just oozes power. She's fearless, strong and would fight the world for her boys After the traumaof what scarlet is put through you think finally the girl finally deserves a break but nooooooo dana gas othef ideas and those ideas involve lots of pain and fear not to just me to the characters aswell lol! I need answers how am i going to wait like I need book 3 today lol!!
Liars by Dana Isaly is a dark reverse harem romance. This is the second book in The Tirad series.
The book comes with a warning: "This book is strictly for those over the age of legal adulthood. It is a reverse harem with dark themes such as BDSM, violence, lots of bad words, and group activities."
This is Dana's debut series, and it just keeps getting better! I was hooked from the very beginning and couldn't wait to see what was going to happen next. I am absolutely loving the chemistry between Scarlet, Sebastian, Tristan, and Elliot. I really enjoyed getting Scarlet, Sebastian, Tristan, Elliot, and Motshan's points of view throughout the book. It really brought the story to life.
The book ends on an amazing cliffhanger! I can't wait for the next book in the series Omens to be released on April 8, 2022.
I would highly recommend this book if you like dark romances, reverse harem romances, or mafia/gang romances.
To say this series has a chokehold on me atm would be an understatement. I think I cried, screamed, gasped, and threw my kindle no less then 200 times. I’ve read very few reverse harems but I can solidly say this is one of my absolute faves and will be one of my faves for a long time. I loved the suspense, the romance, the spice, the insanity of it all, the way it had me holding my breath for the entirety of the book, Scarlet, but most of all the Triad 🥵 I’ll be eagerly counting down the days until Omens 😍
