I am so glad I picked this book up in a used bookstore because I saw the word “notebook.” Tender and self-aware and honest and searing all at the same time. This is a new favorite, for sure. I think it’d pair real well with Kathleen Collins’ Whatever Happened to Interracial Love—of the time, about marginalized identities, about people struggling in and out of love.

This was before its time in that it is lesbian fiction published in 1982. The title story was the best by far, and the longest, with time to develop the characters. I cared what happened to them. Not so much for the other stories, but I read them anyhow.
