She’s not one to let her guard down, but he’ll prove he’s worth the risk.
When Devyn Groves needed a place to get away, she left her Midwestern state and headed for Texas, to the town where her Delta Force brother is stationed. It was supposed to be a brief stop, a safe and temporary refuge on the way to wherever she decided to settle next. Fast-forward over a year later, and she’s made amazing friends, is working part time as a vet tech, and is no closer to leaving. But there’s always the possibility…which is why she keeps Lucky, her brother’s teammate, at arm’s length. Even though it’s the last thing she wants to do. Troy “Lucky” Schmidt fell for Devyn the moment he met her. She’s beautiful, smart, funny, and stronger than she thinks, especially after beating a serious childhood illness. Unfortunately, she’s also skittish around him, and seemingly not interested in a relationship of any kind. But Lucky isn’t one to give up easily. With a little help from her brother, he slowly breaches Devyn’s defenses…in a way even the headstrong vet tech can’t resist.
But when the very reason she fled her hometown shows up unexpectedly, Lucky suspects Devyn’s ready to bolt once again. Neither believe she’s in any kind of danger…until she is. Now Lucky, and the rest of his Delta team, have to band together to save one of their own.
** Shielding Devyn is the 6th book in the Delta Team Two Series. Each book is a stand-alone, with no cliffhanger endings.
New York Times, USA Today, and Wall Street Journal Bestselling Author, Susan Stoker has a heart as big as the state of Tennessee where she lives, but this all American girl has also spent the last fourteen years living in Missouri, California, Colorado, Indiana, and Tennessee. She's married to a retired Army man who now gets to follow her around the country.
Devyn went to her brother when trouble came to her door, and ended up falling in love with one of his best friends…but could either of them keep her safe?
I was really hesitate picking up Shielding Devyn. I usually like Miss Stoker's books. Her story of alpha male heroes is ny go to if I want something hot and sweet.
In Shielding Devyn, I can not decide if I like Devyn or hate her. She is a very confusing heroine. I think Miss Devyn tried to put so many aspect into her so she became complex. Instead Devyn is confuse, stupid/ naive, annoying, damsel in distress. All at once.
Lucky barely saved the story with his loyalty and swoony perfect boyfriend. He just happened to know what to say/ act in the right moment.
I am also in dilema giving this book rating. I do not hate hate the book but I wish something better from Miss Stoker.
I did like Lucky and Devyn finally getting their HEA but I have to say I think this was the weakest from the series so far. I think it's just a me thing though because I seem to not enjoy the characters that this author teases throughout her series as much. Devyn and Lucky we already got to see interact and could tell they would get together in the previous books so maybe I got too excited for them or that took my excitement about them away, it was honestly a little hard to tell. Their story seemed to lack the same intrigue the other books have had and overall I was just a little bored with them.
It makes me nervous for Sierra's upcoming story which I believe will be the last book in the series.
Susan Stoker hits another one out of the ballpark with this great novel that is full of action and romance while dealing with real life issues like addiction. Love the relationship between Devyn and Lucky. Stoker makes us all wish we had a "Lucky" to take home!
Amazingly done. Devyn and Troy's relationship is sweet. Troy not wanting to betray Devyn and yet staying loyal as well to her brother really stood out to me. Honestly just like many susan stoker books i wish there was more.

Lucky & Devyn's story itself isn't as intense as others by this author. They've known each other for about a year, we've seen them dancing around each other throughout the series, and when they get together, it's a sigh of relief. We're ready for them to have their HEA! I adore Lucky & his interactions w/ Grover & the rest of the team. Devyn's relationship w/ Grover (Fred) is also done really well, and I enjoyed the banter she & Lucky have with each other.
Their relationship just ... fits. And there are some SUPER CUTE scenes with them & the pets Lucky adopts. I love love love Angel & Whiskers!!!
The trouble that comes knocking on Devyn's door, however... although she doesn't think it's as serious as what the other women have been through, for me, it was almost MORE frightening because of the way it's executed. You'll have to read & let me know what you think!
Excellent story, as always, and the look into the next two books made me - as always - want them both NOW NOW NOW. LOL I can be patient, tho.
Devyn is Grover's little sister whom we met before in the series. She has a secret that could cause conflict in her family and she doesn’t want to be the one to cause it. Battling with cancer almost causes her parents to get divorced. Her secret caused her to run away. She doesn’t feel safer than with her older brother Fred, aka Grover.
Lucky couldn’t get his best friend’s sister out of his mind ever since he met her. He wanted to get to know her more, but she kept him at arm’s length. Wanting to figure out what’s making her skittish, Lucky takes her brother’s advice; adopting two pets and calling Devyn for help.
The two of them are trying to make the pets comfortable. As the days go by, Devyn’s secret shows it weighs. With Lucky she feels safe, so he could keep her secret away from her brother. Her family had suffered enough because of her. She doesn’t want to add more.
Hope, loyalty, family, and love are found inside this book. The story was so heart melting. Two skittish pets and a woman to match their skittishness face the most patient man. He has to gain their trust and protects them.
Shielding Devyn is the sixth book in the Delta Team Two series by the talented Susan Stoker. I'm loving this series! Devyn is Grover sister and she moved to Texas a year ago. As soon as Lucky saw her he knew he wanted her. He's been trying to get her to notice him and when she finally does, he's all in. He knows he needs to take it slow with her, but it's going to be worth it. Lucky just needs to find out what she's hiding and how he can help her. Devyn just wanted to protect her family, but she realizes that's not what she needs to do anymore. When she's in the wrong place at the wrong time, Lucky and his team have to do race the clock to find Devyn before it's too late! I love Lucky and Devyn and I was on the edge of my seat for most of the book! Well done, Susan! I'm addicted to this series and can't wait for Doc's story!
I've not read anything bad by Ms. Stoker and this one's no different.
A great hero and heroine and a great book. Like all of his teammates he moves slow, but when he does it's hot. Oh my, the scene where he got his pets....so sweet. I wasn't sure what kind of danger Devyn would get into, and it was one I hadn't read before. Looking forward Ember's story, and bless Sierra's heart she's still stuck in that cave.
I loved this story I like how she writes her characters down to earth and not over the top. Lucky was amazing with being tentative and caring when it came to Devyn. I really like how Lucky went and adopted Angel and Whiskers and gave them a second chance that made my heart happy. Can't wait for Shielding Ember. Susan's writing is spot on that's why I keep coming back for more
Holy crow I loved this book! Stoker once again deals with difficult subjects with sensitivity and compassion… and gives plenty of action and sexy times on top of that. Definitely going on my reread list.
Vet tech Devyn Groves has been keeping secrets and avoiding trouble, until trouble comes after her in the next book in Susan Stoker's Delta Team Two series.
We've been waiting for this book since Devyn showed up in the series, and she and Lucky have been slow burning for several books. It's great to see their relationship reach the next level. Plus, the animals are completely adorable, and Lucky's relationship with them makes him seem like nearly the perfect man.
The suspense part of the novel could be better integrated in with the romance part of the novel, but other than that, this is a really great book.
Shielding Devyn is book 6 in the Delta Team 2 series and I can admit I did not want to put it down and if I could’ve gotten away with not doing chores or dropping the kid to school, I probably would’ve finished it in one sitting😁
Suffice to say I really enjoyed finding out why Devyn left Missouri and moved closer to her brother but I also loved the hints for what’s coming next. There was also one moment where Devyn’s brother Spencer does something really selfless that had me close to balling😭 Spectacular story and a must read❣️
I'm never disappointed with a Susan Stoker book and this one is no exception. I love Lucky and Devyn! Even though I knew they would eventually get together I have been looking forward to their book for a while. Great characters that compliment each other. Those rough and smooth edges fitting like puzzle pieces. Another great read and addition to the series!
Shielding Devyn: Delta Team Two: Book 6 is by Susan Stoker. As usual, Susan does a magnificent job of writing about Delta teams. Usually, the main characters meet under the most dangerous circumstances and usually abroad. This time, she takes a different approach and it still works. Devyn had come to Killeen, Texas because her brother Fred, also known as Grover, was stationed here with his Delta team. She had made up a story that her boss had hit on her and she fell and needed to leave Missouri. The truth lay with her brother, Spencer. Spencer had been borrowing money and stealing from her to feed a gambling addiction. In an argument, he had pushed her and she fell, causing bruises. He knew she was the only one in the family he could guilt into helping him. However, she had reached her limit and left to get away from him. Fred was happy to see his little sister, except for the bruises, and helped her find an apartment and a job at a vet clinic. He introduced her to his buddies and their wives. He knew from a previous visit, that Troy “Lucky” Schmidt was attracted to his sister and, after warning bodily harm if he hurt his sister, gave him permission to date her if she wanted. He also hoped that Lucky would be able to get her to talk about what happened in Missouri that caused her to leave. Devyn was cautious with Lucky as she knew he and Fred were close and told each other everything. It wasn’t until he convinced her that he wouldn’t tell Fred that she finally told him about Spencer. After giving him her trust and his keeping it, Devyn fell in love with Lucky and they were together as much as possible. She still worried about Spencer and possibly learning his body was found due to the gambling debt he owed. She had reason to worry.
I feel like we've been waiting for this one for a while now. Devyn's been around, Grover knows something is up with his sister, but couldn't get her to talk and Lucky was instantly smitten with her. So finally we get to learn all. Part of me was a bit let down when Devyn's secret of why she ran to Texas came out, it wasn't all that bad, but more what made it worse was the betrayal by someone she should have been able to trust. I liked that Devyn finally shared and did so with Lucky. I also liked how before hand Lucky and Grover talked and how Lucky told him that he might not be able to share what, if anything Devyn told him, that that relationship would come before their friendship.
When things went bad, like they always seem to with these books, I found myself so mad at the person that caused it all for so many reasons, but most importantly for the inaction they did for 2 days, 2 days that Devyn was in danger. Luckily the guys pulled out all the stops and were able to get to her in time.
Things were all sunshine and rainbows in the aftermath. I was glad when the girls had a come to Jesus talk with Devyn and then when Devyn faced her fears and Lucky called in everyone else to help, made it more of a party, which took the pressure off.
And with as much happened in this one, I want to talk about Angel and Whiskers. How cute was it that Lucky picked them and how both he and Devyn did what they could to make them feel safe in their new home. I hated how that almost got messed up, but knew that Lucky and Devyn will work with them to make sure nothing like that happens again.
This is book 6 in the Delta Team Two series. Lucky, a Delta force operator, met Devyn, the sister of one of his teammates, about a year ago. Devyn moved to be near her brother. The reason she gave was an unwanted advance from her old boss but that was not the real reason. For Lucky it was love at first sight but Devyn has put up barriers so he’s settled for friendship. After being friends for a year Devyn decides to stop fighting her feelings and agrees to date Lucky. Watching Devyn and Lucky navigate their fledgling relationship while dealing with rescued animals and family secrets is an engaging, emotional, heart breaking, uplifting, loving, heart pounding roller coaster ride of all the feelings. On their way to their HEA, Devyn and Lucky grow and strengthen beautifully as individuals and as a couple. This book shows that sometimes the things in our lives that first appear to be disasters turn out to be unexpected blessings instead. This book has a little bit of everything just like you would expect from a Susan Stoker story - sweet moments, strong friendships, fan your face sexy times, real life issues, imperfect characters, dangerous high stress situations, and so much love. Susan Stoker continues to be the queen of military romance. And Lucky loving on traumatized animals causes all the swoons.
I cringed Everytime they say our men, their women, something they have, you'll also understand. We get it you're a tribe no need to mention it every page. It's like they're playing typical house house like children. The romance was quick. I guess you have to read other books if you want what they said on the blurb. Cause in the book it's instant. Time to time it felt like written by a bot. You know those rpg games? Yeah like those. Aside all of this I'm pretty interested for Sierra's story. Cause her story feels different. She's one of them not a newbie who came one of those men's life and changed everything. But I shouldn't expect something over the top cause at the end it'll turn out just like these stories.

I’m not sure how this series manages to have delta force cinnamon rolls but somehow that’s where we are, not that I’m objecting. Lucky is very sweet with both the pets and his patience and thoughtfulness with Devyn. Devyn has a fabulous way of confronting her fears and it is good to see her have someone truly in her corner. Another great feature of this authors writing is none of this don’t touch my sister energy that almost always feels frustrating. I can forgive/understand the actions of a key character but the delay is unforgivable, that is unjustifiable, to knowingly allow suffering through cowardice hard to come back from. Normally I love an Easter egg but I’d be happier if he does not reappear, sorry to be cryptic but I didn’t want to completely spoil
Devyn and Lucky have been skirting around their attraction for a while. When it becomes clear Devyn is dealing with something and won’t share lucky take steps to make her realise she has support. When Devyn finally confides in him, he’s shocked but obviously supportive. When they begin to build a relationship and get comfortable being with each other, Devyn suddenly disappears.
Thoroughly enjoyed it. Susan never shied away from the realistic details of a story and I like the fact she addresses this. I loved the plot, everyone can relate to issues with family whether small or large. I love Lucky’s patience and care with her and also with Angel and Whiskers and how there is a parallel between them and Devyn. Another great one for the bookshelf.
I’m not going to recap the plot. Too many people do that. What I want to review is the things about this book that make it what it is. Good chemistry between the characters, especially the H/h. This book is different from a majority of her others in that the characters have known each other for most of the series. But in this one, obviously, Dev gives Lucky his chance and their relationship blooms from there. Also love the animals in this one and how Lucky finds and adopts them. Also the animals weren’t used in the plot in the way I thought. Refreshing not to know what happens before it does. The dialog was real to life. The sex scenes a little shorter than I’m used to from Susan but still top line. And true to the act which is refreshing. The plot was awesome as was the cleanup afterwards that we often do not get to see while h is dealing w PTSD. All in all great book (even if someone doesn’t get the ass kicking he deserves in my opinion).
These stories are best read in order to get the full affect.
Troy or "Lucky" as he is known to his teammates falls for Devyn Groves as soon as he meets her. She however has kept her distance since moving to Texas to be with her big brother and figure out what's next after leaving her family troubles behind. But those troubles don't stay away forever and now they are knocking on her door. The thing is, nobody thinks that she is in danger but danger has a way of showing up regardless of what you may think.
I really liked Devyn as she has kicked cancer's ass as a young girl and now is trying to find her way through a sticky family situation. She is stronger than she knows as are most of Ms. Stoker's heroines. She and Lucky are perfect together and he is an alpha male but he also is a good friend and upfront. He doesn't play games.
I loved the addition of the dog and the cat, so very cute. I look forward to seeing what is in store for the rest of the team. You can't go wrong with a book by Ms. Stoker.
Trying to keep the peace is weighing on her shoulders, but Devyn is determined to not be the cause of family problems. She ran when she couldn't so no to her youngest brother, but now that he has come to see her, is trouble following? Lucky has wanted Devyn from the first moment he laid eyes on her, but until he promises anything that is said between them would not be repeated to her older brother, she refuses to give up her secret. Many lessons can be learned in this story and again, Susan Stoker has written a book that can't be put down. Loving this series and can't wait for the next one.
OMG I love Devyn and Lucky together. She is hiding things from everyone as to why she came to Killeen. Lucky finally convinces her she can trust him so she tells him why after he promises not to tell her brother, Grover. They decide to quit tiptoeing around each other and start dating. But, her problem won't leave her alone and soon her brother, Spencer, shows up unexpectedly. Because of him she is kidnapped. Will Spencer come clean to everyone about his problem and past relationship with Devyn and what happened to her? Will they get the money for the loan shark and find out where Devyn is? What condition will they find her in since she has been gone for three or four days?
I don't know how Susan brings it. When I got this book I stopped. This book is about Dev, Grover's sister. As a best friend Grover hovered, but his best friend Lucky could take care of his sister. The alpha brother, Grover, silently pass the touch to his best friend.
Welcome to Lucky and Devyn. She is is trying to be strong. Her illness doesnt get get down. I love This book. And for you animal lovers..this book has an Alpha that rescued a dog and cat
This book makes me swoon. So thoughtful. I fell in love with Lucky.
Lucky knows just how fortunate he is to have Devyn in his life, but when she finally agrees to be his, he feels like the luckiest guy in the world. So what does he do when she is taken and they have no way of knowing where she is...he cannot breathe without her, cannot think clearly, cannot live...how is he supposed to just wait.... Dev knows she needs to stay strong, alert and positive, Lucky will find her, all she needs to do is keep breathing....but that becomes increasingly harder to do. This relationship has been brewing for the past year, Lucky has been so patient, knowing if he pushed for more she would run. But seeing them finally come together, especially with Angel and Whiskers too, it's like you can finally breathe after holding your breath for the last year. I love this series, although I am devastated that we have to wait another six months for Sierra's book...especially when we know just how brutal her captivity is!
Omg I loved lucky. He has amazing and total book boyfriend material. Wow. Hotness and so sensitive and caring. Him with the pets was adorable and made me want to cry. Ugh. I really liked devyn but it was annoying when she took so long to tell anyone what was going on. I mean I get not wanting to rock the boat but come one for the safety of your brother when you found about a $50k return I would be worried for his life and safety. Yes I’d stop talking to him and cut him out of my life for my own sanity and protection but not until I knew someone else could offer help. Hiding it only put herself and Spencer in jeopardy. Loved how the girls brought her into the fold. Lucky and Devon were so perfect together. Just having this effortless connection. Laughing and being about to easily coexist. Loved it and can’t wait for ember and sierras book!!!
Troy “Lucky” has had his eye on Devyn ever since she came to town in a mysterious rush, leaving behind her job as a vet tech and some family. Her brother, “Grover” is a teammate of Lucky’s. Devyn is clearing running from something, but she won’t open up about it until this book, which is more classic Susan Stoker with adversity, good friends, a strong team, and love. I read the ebook. 4/5
