When someone tries to kill her sister, it’s time for Julie Cavallo to don her sleuthing cap!
The Provence sweet shop owner rushes to the home of her twin sister in Paris. Julie’s main question is: Who would want Cat, a professional medium, dead? Unfortunately, Cat doesn’t have a clue. But since when has the absence of clues deterred Julie?
Soon enough, she uncovers a suspicious death, unsolved disappearances, and a spiritual community with a dark secret to protect. By the time Julie realizes she opened a big can of worms, she’s in too deep. And her life is in danger.
Cue the handsome captain Gabriel Adinian, Julie’s longtime crush.
Why is he in Paris? Probably on assignment for the Gendarmerie Nationale. Or maybe a private matter unrelated to Julie. But what if he’s taken leave to watch over her? Then, Julie hopes he’ll do a little more than watch—professionally and… otherwise.
Can Julie, with the help of her friends, solve the far-reaching case and cheat death once again?
Chanticleer Mystery & Mayhem Book Awards First Place winner, Ana T. Drew is the evil mastermind behind the recent series of murders in the fictional French town of Beldoc.
When she is not writing cozy mysteries or doing mom-and-wife things, she can be found watching “The Rookie” to help her get over “Castle”. She lives in Paris but her heart is in Provence.
Note: I received a copy in exchange for an honest review (it is not an in-advance copy as the novel has already released).
This novel is a part of series, which can be read as complete standalones. But to enjoy the whole Cavallo experience, reading the books in order helps.
I loved Julie Cavallo! Her amateur sleuthing skills, her psychic powers, and her snarky but straightforward and loveable attitude! Also her family, her gentleman caller (I am still so old in many ways), and the endless mysteries she hunts down!
I loved this mystery! It's set in Paris, and a perhaps-maybe phoney- psychic is found dead. Going through a lot of goose chases, unfamiliar stories and clues, confusing new leads, and of course some scares to delight as well! - truly a sensation to enjoy.
This is a merely light mystery, not too hardcore like police procedurals (although those are always my favorites but this one really lightened my own mood as well after a crazy month), but definitely one for the books.
I truly enjoyed hanging around Julie, her family in an unfamiliar setting like Paris and solving the mysteries - and yes may or may not have increased my interest in becoming a sleuth myself.
So yes, I am definitely looking forward to another story of Julie Cavallo with all my heart and excitment.
I was granted complimentary access to The Perils of Paris by Ana T. Drew as part of my participation in a blog tour for this title with Goddess Fish Promotions. Thank you to all involved in affording me this opportunity! I really love this series. My thoughts are my own and my review is honset.
Julie is in Paris. Between her twin sister who has a dangerous stalker and her grandmother who has lived beyond her means for far too long and is now in very deep trouble with the banks, this trip is going to be anything but relaxing! Who wants to kill her sister?
This book is full of identical twin antics that I found quite entertaining! (Blame it on growing up with movies like The Parent Trap but I love twin plots.) Add it Cat's medium abilities that made this feel like a particularly fast-paced and deadly episode of Ghost Whisperer, and this was really my kind of paranormal mystery!
I must say I missed Julie in her home element baking mouth-watering sweets and treats that I always wanted to lick right off the page. This was a great cozy mystery in its own right, but it didn't feel like part of the Julie Cavallo series. She was in his sister's territory and the plot hinged on her sister's abilities.
I'm looking forward to finding out what sort of mess Julie gets tangled up in next, though! Keep this coming!
Julie Cavallo hurries to get to her twin sister in Paris when she hears that someone is trying to kill her! Cat is a professional medium. What would lure a killer to come after her? When Julie and Cat go together to talk to a suspect, they find the dead body of a woman in the bathtub -- it’s Priscilla! There is no blood in the water, no wounds, no signs of strangulation, but she is definitely dead. Who was responsible for murdering Priscilla? Is there a connection to Cat or even Julie? Is someone trying to protect a secret? Will Julie and her friends be able to solve the case?
This was a good story line that draws the reader in from the very beginning and will keep you eagerly reading until the end. It moves along at the perfect pace which creates an intriguing mystery for Julie to solve. Grab your copy and follow the clues!
I enjoyed reading this book. This is a fast read with enough twists and turns to keep you interested in the story. I enjoyed the characters and the setting in Paris. I am looking forward to reading more books by this author. I received an advanced reviewer copy of this book.
You don't have to leave the comfort of your living room to travel across the world and solve a mystery alongside Julie and her wonderful friends in this cozy mystery. There are plenty of twists to keep you guessing, and the characters are great. You can't help but love Cat and Julie from the start. I must warn you, once you start reading, you aren't going to want to put this book down!
Our favorite sleuth Julie Cavallo is back and ready to solve a few cases. When Julie learns that someone is trying to kill her twin sister she races to her side to protect her and find out who is out to harm her sister, Cat who is a professional medium.
Things start to turn deadly when Julie and Cat go to question a suspect and find a dead body instead. The more Julie dives into the case the more dangerous it becomes for the two sisters.
The mystery and suspense alone are enough to keep those pages flowing. As each clue is revealed I was racing to the end to see who wanted Cat dead and why.
Who was responsible for the dead body the girls found? What was their motive for committing murder? What did the dead body have to do with Cat and or Julie? Did the murder have anything to do with Cat or Julie for that matter?
As I have said before I just love the Julie Cavallo Investigates mysteries. The characters are all great and seem so real. The descriptions are so vivid I see it all in my head as if I am a part of Julie’s world.
The Perils of Paris pulled me into its world from the first page and once I had read that first page there was no way I was going to lay it down until I had read the last page. I am now sitting here contemplating the next book in the Julie Cavallo Investigates mysteries and whatever it entails. What does Julie have waiting for us on her next case?
Once again I highly recommend The Perils of Paris to all those cozy mystery fans out there! One-click your copy of The Perils of Paris today!
This is a brilliant read. Wonderful well written plot and story line that had me engaged from the start. Love the well fleshed out characters and found them believable. Great suspense and found myself second guessing every thought I had continuously. Can't wait to read what the author brings out next. Recommend reading.
I read a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest review.
A fun cozy mystery with engaging characters in the city of Paris that immediately pulled me into all that was happening and kept me glued to the book until I read the last word. I love Julie Cavello and enjoy her dynamic with the other characters especially her twin sister Cat. If you enjoy must-solve mysteries, don't miss The Perils of Paris. I received an advance reader copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving my review.
Ana T. Drew The Perils of Paris: a Provence Cozy Mystery (Julie Cavallo Investigates) Julie, her twin Cat, their sister Flo, their grandmother Rose and Julie's assistant Eric, all have a part in solving Julie's latest case of finding Elodie, amongst dodging killers. As in her previous books, this one had great world building, and lots of colorful characters. I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review
Anna Anna T Drew is a new author for me; and, I enjoyed The Perils of Paris. I was intrigued by the clever identical twins and the special gifts they possessed. It was interesting to see how they worked together to unravel the mystery. The author completely surprised me by some of the twists and turns. I enjoy reading books set in different parts of the world and learning about them; so, was a real treat to read this book.
This is the first book of this author I've read, and I don't plan on it being the last. This story has everything. mystery, humor, and romance, it's well written and very entertaining. I can't wait for more from this author. I received this book 📚, as a FREE ARC copy to read and I voluntarily leave this review.
I enjoyed this one a little more than her previous book. The nudity and some profanity, I could have done without. Nevertheless, the difference in culture was not as apparent and the book was easy to read and down right Hilarious at times!
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I loved this latest Julie Cavallo Investigates Mystery. The suspense and humor was perfectly wound together. I'm glad to see a little more romance for Julie. Her and her team did a great job on the latest mystery.
The Perils of Paris: a Provence Cozy Mystery is the fifth book in the Julie Cavallo Investigates series. This engaging cozy mystery has well-developed characters, humour, kidnapping, danger, drama, and mystery. I read and reviewed this book with no obligation.
The Perils of Paris: a Provence Cozy Mystery by Ana T. Drew is the fifth book in the Julie Cavallo Investigates series. Julie Cavallo is an amateur sleuth, as are others in her family and a co-worker from her bakery. The story takes quite a few twists and turns as Julie and her sister, Cat, a psychic, try to figure out a murder and piece the clues together of this whodunnit. Of course, the more they look into the death and other potential crimes, the deeper the danger and the trouble they and others get into.
The Perils of Paris is the first book I’ve read in the Julie Cavallo Investigates series, and it was easily a standalone story. The characters have a depth to them, as does the storyline. There are several clues, shady characters, crooked cops, and others in authority who are dishonest. There are wonderful descriptions of Paris and the various settings that are vivid and formed pictures in my mind. There is closure with solving the various mysteries and when those in danger get to safety, but the story ends abruptly. The cover is whimsical and playful, just like parts of the story. Ms. Drew is a new-to-me author, and I look forward to reading all the books in this series since I enjoyed her writing style.
If you like cozy mysteries set in foreign locales that transport you there, The Perils of Paris could be a book for you. With wonderful characters, family and friends, I was pulled in from the first page to the last.
🗼Twins on the hunt for a killer: plenty of twists👥
Entertaining, lively and unpredictable: the words I'd use to best describe this cozy murder mystery that begins with attacks on two Parisian psychics. As amateur investigator/baker Julie works to save her twin sister Cat from danger that could prove fatal, she persists when the Paris police seem disinclined and searches for a missing young woman and her father who may be key to the case.
The investigation proved exciting and drew me in, right up to the perilous climax. Julie is so adventurous, resourceful and up for any challenge as she demonstrates, working her way into the confidence of magnet fishers(!), meditation center and hospital staff, all in a day's unpaid work to keep her sister alive.
I had one issue with the story. I felt, at the beginning, as if the first chapter or two, maybe a prologue, had been left out of my copy of the book. It's a writing technique that just had me annoyed until the action and detecting kicked in. Oh, and I would have liked more scenes with Julie and her romantic interest, gendarme Gabriel.
Though not strictly necessary, I think this story would be more enjoyable after reading previous books in the series as it does obliquely refer to previous cases.
I read a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest opinion.

This was my first time reading this author, but not my last. I love Paris overall, and expected to love the story just for that alone. Overall, I found it pleasant, engaging, funny, and filled with the basics that one expect from a cozy mystery. The characters are likable, the mystery is just deep enough to keep me reading, but not give me a headache, and the humor kept me laughing at key points.
One thing that seriously annoys me is when the actual character's name is not mentioned during the first few chapters out of a sense of familiarity with the series. If you have read the prior books, great. If this is your first encounter, then it would help, even as you are helping out your twin sister, to actually have the name come up.
The humorous twists and turns are what have kept me reading. Other than the issue with the name, I will happily read future novels by this author.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This is my honest opinion and not a recap of the story. This is the first book I've read by this author, and it was super enjoyable. Does just fine as a standalone although it is part of a series, I didn't have any problem diving in, learning the characters, or keeping up. Well written so you can figure out the backstory/relationships without having to go back to anything prior. Just the right amount of humor, snarkiness, and suspense fill this book to keep your attention and bring it all to a satisfying conclusion. If you like a good mystery and fun characters in a cozy, this is the book for you, and you'll want to go back and read the others as I did, solely because I enjoyed this book so much and guessed that I'd have a similar experience with the others. I encourage you to give this book/series a try.
The Perils of Paris is the fifth book in Julie Cavallo cozy mystery series but it can be read as a standalone.

This was another interesting mystery solved by Julie. Seeing the different sights in Paris through her eyes added to the story. I loved how she figured things out, followed the clues, and managed to rescue Elodie. Protecting her sister and solving the murder of another were definitely well worked out. Her relationship with sister, Cat, and heartthrob, Gabriel, made her more real. I enjoyed this story.
I received a copy of this story through Goddess Fish Promotions, and this is my unsolicited review.
Julie is back in Paris her hometown, and back to stay this time. She meets up with her twin sister, Cat, a psychic, and when Cat has a snapshot vision about a client, they decide to investigate. But by the time they get to the client’s place, they find Priscilla dead in the bathtub. So now they have a murder to solve. The investigation leads them on a merry chase, and gets them noticed by some very bad guys. It’s sort of a mystery in a mystery! Lots of twists and a close call! It’ll keep your interest from start to finish! I received a free copy of this book from BookSirens and leave this review voluntarily.
The Perils of Paris is Provence Cozy Mysteries book 5 in the Julie Cavallo Investigates by Ana T Drew. Julie is with her twin, Cat, and they get involved in a terrible situation. I thought that this cozy was also a thriller. There is murder, crooked politicians and police, kidnapping… so many layers and mysteries plus a promise of romance. The author writes great characters and I believe that each book in the series is different and very interesting. I received an arc for free and I am leaving my review voluntarily.
This cozy mystery is a pleasant light read that cozy mystery fans will enjoy. The setting is, of course, Paris. This is where the main character’s sister lives and she is in danger. This is a fast reading story. Pleasant but not complicated or deep, as expected for this genre. Thanks to the author, I received a copy of this book. I leave my review voluntarily.
As always, they solve the mystery and have a couple thrilling brushes with dangerous situations along the way. BUT this installment gives us the character growth we've been waiting for! (That's enough of a spoiler. If you're a fan of the series, you'll be delighted!) I'm starting the next installment of the FERJ adventures right now!
