Ornithologist Madison didn't expect to capture a bird on her first evening in the woods. She definitely didn't expect that bird to turn into a sexy, naked man right in front of her eyes. Not that she's complaining.
Hawk shifter Simon's task was simple. Scout ahead to check on the scientists in the nearby forest, then report back while other shifters lie low. Getting caught in a net was not part of that plan. Neither was getting freed by his fated mate. Not that he's complaining.
An ornithologist should be a bird shifter's worst enemy. But together, Madison and Simon hatch a plan so shifters and scientists can use the woods--and so they can build a nest together--no matter who has a problem with that.
And maybe they'll figure out how to create the perfect s'more along the way.
Ruffled Feathers is a short and sweet shifter romance that's the perfect quick lunch break read!
Zoe Chant loves writing paranormal romance. Over a cup of tea (or something stronger) she whips up sexy tales of hunky heroes and adventurous heroines to tantalize and satisfy her readers. Sizzling hot romance, no cliffhangers!
While series should ideally be read in order, all of Zoe’s books are standalones and can be read in any order. This includes books within series.
Another short, sweet story about a shifter finding his mate. This time we have a hawk shifter, trying to protect his secret from some outsiders, and an ornithologist that is investigating the migration routes of birds, that just happens to caught more than she bargained for.
This story focus on how a scientific mind has to adapt and accept that fated mates exists and that love at first sight is possible, add a close community of shifters and the dangers scientists represent to them and we find ourselves in a situation that is not as easy as it could be, but since this is a short story, we don't find that much drama and everything works well, but not for that the book is any less good. This shifter bite is perfect for when you need some relax and want to read something good.
This is a cute shifter romance novella, in the Shifter Bites series. It was very short, so there wasn't time for as much character development as I normally like. It gets 3 stars from me.
I liked both Simon and Madison, and thought they were good for each other. I did think, though, that she would have been a little more shocked than she was when Simon first shifted from a hawk to a man.
My main problem with this novella is that it was just very short. I prefer longer books, so that there is room for more character development. This novella features instalove, as is typical in shifter romances.
My rating system is below. 1 star -- Hated it, or did not finish. I usually only give this rating if some of the content is truly objectionable to me, like if one of the main characters does something really awful, and gets away with it. 2 stars -- Didn't like it. This rating usually means that I thought the writing wasn't very good, the editing was terrible, I didn't like the characters, or it had other major flaws. 3 stars -- I liked it, but had some minor issues with it. This rating means that there were minor editing issues, the story needed more character development, it was just too unrealistic, or had some other fairly minor issue. The majority of books I read get this rating – I do not consider it a bad rating. 4 stars -- I liked it a lot. This is a high rating for me, and I rarely give a higher one. 5 stars -- I loved it, and will probably read it again. Very few books are good enough to get this rating from me. The ones that do are usually classics.
Madison is an ornithologist who's in town to study birds in a specific area of the forest, but that usually means that the shifters in town can't go out especially the bird shifters. Madison is surprised to catch a bird her first night out, and even more shocked when the bird shifts into a man. Simon's a hawk shifter who supposed to scout ahead and see what the scientists were up to. He never expected to get caught in a net by his fated mate. Can a scientist and a shifter make a life together? And can they work things out so scientists and shifters can share the woods?
I really enjoyed this book which was a quick, fun read and a sweet shifter romance. The book was well-written with wonderful characters and, yes, it could have been longer but things were still ended well. I was drawn into the story and kept hooked from beginning to end. I'm looking forward to more from Zoe as I always love reading about shifters and fated mates. I highly recommend this book.
I love this author and her series BUT, this was the worst book to date that I couldn’t drive right into the storyline. It was so choppy, nothing flowed and you are trying to figure what the heck is going on. It took half of the book to get into the mood to read it. It was worst than pulling teeth. The idea of the story was adorable but the ending was as clean as a knife cut. The story was done. Nothing to warn you it’s done. I feel like this was a full length story that got cut n pasted together to fit in a book cover that was 10 sizes too small. I’m really not a fan of short books but I always give my favorite authors a try on them. I hope you enjoy it more than me. I’m glad I could read for free on my unlimited or otherwise I would have been so sorry I wasted money on it.
This is a cute story about a hawk shifter spying on an ornithology scientist who gets caught in her net. Of course she is his fated mate! But many in the town of shifters worry about the scientists finding out about them. It makes sense to me. I would love to see this continue with more stories set in this town or area. Will they be able to work things out? Read this to see!
The pace is fast and the tone is hopeful with a character oriented storyline that has some suggestions of steam but no major details. The characters are vibrant and endearing. I hope to read more about this town some time. Enjoy!
Even if shifters weren't involved I find it hard to believe how unfeeling Dr. Brown had been for years. Madison and the mayor have the right idea of open communication. When each side sees the other as a person and just an enemy; when each side respect the other and their needs; when the town understands what is happening and why progress can be made. The whole town may not be thrilled about bird migration but the scientist's willingness to share with whose who are is good.
Zoe what were you thinking ending the book there when there is so much more to the story.I couldn't believe it when I got to the end of the book but was expecting another 30-40 pages.
I liked the story but am disappointed that there's still a lot of story left out for what I can only guess was the easy way out. I disappointed you took the shortcut, its not like you. Now I have to wonder if future books will be treated this way.
The narrative is solid with relatable quirky characters, yet there is no true spark. Over the past six months, I have read every Zoe Chant title available to me on Amazon Kindle. This is the first one to only slightly touch on the deep physically romantic intimacy I have come to expect from this author. As sweet as the protagonists and storyline were, I'm left disappointed.
Simon & Madison are fated mates. Madison is human and a scientist, so she doesn't believe it right away. Simon has to do some wooing.
The sex is implied rather than explicit in this novella, and there are no villains or disasters. If you want a quiet little romance to read on your lunch break, this might be a good pick.
I really enjoyed reading this story. There were so many different parts that made me smile. I liked the working together for a singular goal, the romance, and the love that blossomed. It kinda feels like there could be more stories branching off of this one. That would be so cool!!
There's a human in their shifter town and she's here to study the birds that migrate through their woods. Not good news for the town's bird shifters, but great news for hawk shifter Simon. She's his fated mate! The town isn't as thrilled to have the ornithologists in their midst. Will their secrets be safe? Perfect lunch or bedtime story. Enjoy!
I enjoyed the story. Made you think about scientific studies a bit and how accurate are they. Personally I think that he really should have seen that net to begin with and never got caught if he was paying attention but then how would the story work out! Lol as always I like them a bit longer but its a fun quick read.
Humorous romance story About a shifter and his mate
Simon met Madison a human bird scientist while he was spying on her in his hawk shifter form. He got caught in a net and had to shift. The secret was out!
They had to let the mayor know what happen. Simon's hawk wanted to hunt for mouse or a nice juicy mole.
This book showed the life of a shifter and his mate.
A shorter story of fated mates and an unexpected meeting leading to a happy ending. In a few pages, the readers meet the inhabitants of a shifter town and a scientist who accidentally discovers their existence. No angst or thriller elements in this story, only a sweet love story focusing on the developing relationship between a shifter and his mate.
This was a short and sweet fated mates story with hawk shifter Simon finding his mate in ornithologist (bird scientist) Madison. Simon and Madison had a very cute relationship and I enjoyed how Simon didn’t push Madison too quickly to accept they are fated mates. Also I loved how chill Madison was learning about shifters and how she instantly wanted to protect their secret.
What an interesting cute/meet for them. Then to find out she's his fated mate. For a scientist, she seemed open to the idea of shifters. Her meetings with the mayor helped in straightening out the anxiety between the townspeople and the researchers. It also helped with them getting their HEA.
This is a well written short story with great characters. I usually don't read avian shifter stories, but I like Zoe Chant's stories, so I got this one. This one is worth your time. I think you will enjoy this one I know I did. This is one for that lazy afternoon you have been promising yourself. Go get it and Enjoy!!!
Simon is a hawk shifter and Madison a scientist that studys birds! What happens when they meet and Simon realizes they are fated mates? A great short romance book!
I really enjoy Zoe Chant's shorter works. They are quick to read, and every bit as much fun as her novels. The only thing that I am not thrilled with, is that I want more!
This is a good, short but enjoyable story. Bird man meets bird lover, and she finds herself studying more than his feathers. Nice bedtime reading, won’t give you nightmares.
A fun, quick read. Zoe Chant always has great shifter storylines, but being short it has little conflict or depth. Quickly drawn in to the characters. Always hoping to learn more about the town in other books.
This is a cute and fun story! Super enjoyable! Very nice to read a story about bird shifters. I hadn't thought about migratory or regional issues before. Keep the stories coming, please!
I have heard of Shifters wanting to meet and catch their fated mates, but this is definitely a new twist on that scenario. lol What a fun and fast paced "quick bite!"
An Ornithologist and a Hawk Shifter - what an appropriate combination! As soon as I read the description, I was caught by the humor in the pairing and, also, how perfect it is. The love story happens amidst the backdrop of a shifter town weary of these university scientists that invade their forest every year. I enjoyed their chemistry and how their budding relationship affects the town.
As part of Zoe Chant’s Shifter Bites series, it’s a perfect after dinner length. (It’s advertised as a lunch break series, but I find it takes longer than that for me). Regardless, it’s an enjoyable novella with a lovely HEA and well worth the hour or two of time.
