The Wyatt women seem to be missing a fidelity gene, until Winn Wyatt, that is. All the Wyatt females who came before her left a string of shattered hearts in their wake. But Winn is as loyal as they come, there's only one man for her...unfortunately, that man is her stepbrother.
Kane Harding is like a shark moving forward ....unstoppable. Despite being born with a silver spoon in his mouth, he's followed an ambitious path to success. He graduated from a top college, served four years as an army captain, and is now helming his family's billion dollar conglomerate.
Kane has only one soft spot...his stepsister. But he doesn't trust her as far as he could toss her perfect ass. She's a heartbreaker from the top of her beautiful blonde head to the tips of her glitter-painted toes. And now she's crossed a forbidden boundary and offered her virginity to him on a silver platter. He isn't about to let Winn get her pretty little hooks in his heart. It's out with the caring, protective stepbrother and in with the cold, calculating businessman.
Just a novella and I really didn't like either character. The hero was a jerk and at first the h was pretty sluttish. She got better but he didn't. I never liked him at all. Him getting engaged to the OW and then telling the heroine he wanted her was just a little over the top. This is like a New Adult novel with sex scenes and no romance. I love this author though and will look forward to her next novel. This is not what I would call safe but free in KU. There are no scenes with other woman, except at a party, but he was sleeping with other people after meeting her of course. She was his Step sister and it kind of squicked me out. Just not for me.
This is a short, steamy story that's perfect for that "quick hot-alpha" fix we all need from time to time. I'm normally not a fan of "step-brother" romances due to the ewww factor but (surprisingly) it worked here. It was written in first person with alternating POV between the H and h.
Due to the length, a lot of the story is glossed over with the focus being a small span of time when the two finally get together. The ending was rushed (again due to book length) & I was seriously worried the author would leave me hanging but she didn't. There's a HEA in the epilogue (which should've been the last chapter with an epilogue to follow).
I've now read two of Ms. Cross' books & I like the way she writes & her H's. They are very dominant "caveman" style j/p alpha's & make the book for me. I enjoy the type of H that takes charge, throwing the h on his shoulder and carrying her out of the room. (Yeah baby!) The "mine" mentality works for me. (This book had less of that than My Husband the Stranger but was still here.)
My only suggestion would be for the author to write longer books. Other than that, Ms. Cross, I am a fan.
OK well i did kinda enjoy it but I skimmed a lot, which is saying something as it was only 70 pages. Winn the 'Wyatt woman' (Dum du dummmmm.... cue doom music) and Kane the man who failed in highschool logic. It's kind of a harlequin-style plot with poor wrong side of tracks heroine who is painted with the same brush as the rest of her kin. Rich entitled (but super hot) jerk who misses his mommy etc. They are recent step siblings because her mother married his dad but then things went south and this too is added to the debt on Winn's head. But wait! There's a secret plot with Cancer! SO anyways, Kane goes WAAAAaaaay out of his way to force Winn to sell her body to him for a period of time so he can get her out of his system. And she needs the money. I will try the author again because I did like the characters but the story was too OTT. It was kind of like the characters didn't fit the story.
I really enjoy Ms. Cross's brand of hero. Another short story that I recommend to anyone who also liked My Husband the Stranger. There's nothing too deep going on here, but if you want a quick fix of jealous alpha male, this is worth a read.
super short, the epilogue was so random felt more like the chapter before an epilogue but it was still a nice quick read. The H was very OTT J/P, and believe the h would be unfaithful based on her family. A don't judge a book by its cover romance.
StepBrother who is seemingly annoyed by his stepsisters crush. All the while very protective and jealous. These two had some antics. They were over the top entertaining. I laughed out loud. I got angry. I was even a tinge hurt on the h’s behalf. Book was a good read and it made the time just slip by. I am looking forward to more of the authors books. Very steamy read.
Short stepbrother romance with a few sex scenes. Lots of pulling away and callousness from the hero because he is sure that the heroine will cheat. Apparently her family has a history and infidelity is genetic. It’s fine but not memorable.
I don't know how I didn't discover Emery Cross before but I'm glad I finally did and I'll definitely be reading more of her books. I love Stepbrother/Stepsister books and it's been a while since I read one that really tickled my fancy and this one certainly did. Kane Harding is a recently retired Captain in the Army and he's now running Harding Enterprises, taking over for his Father, Chad. Winn Wyatt is a beautiful, confident, outgoing woman who also happens to be a virgin and she's in love with her Stepbrother, Kane. The women in her family have a reputation for being unfaithful to their men. When the inevitable happens and her Mom cheats on Kane's Dad they get divorced and Winn has to quit college. Something tragic happens and Winn needs a lot of money to help someone close to her. Kane wants Winn badly but he doesn't want to cross that line and he certainly doesn't want to end up cheated on. He figures he can fuck her outta his system and help her with her money problems by getting her to agree to spend 5 days with him. Winn is hesitant but she needs the money so she agrees hoping she'll walk away from it unbroken.
Novella, h has loved her stepbrother H for years. He wanted her, but mistrusted her and went behind her back to make her lose her job. He was mean and it was all very quick. Too quick and too tropey for me. Talented writer, just missed the mark for me with this one.
