How to Use the I Ching: A Guide to Working With the Oracle of Change

Rate this book
"I Ching", the ancient Chinese oracle, responds like a wise old friend. Ask it a series of questions with sincerity and it will give you remarkably accurate advice. Approach it flippantly and it will rebuke you. This new condensed and simplified interpretation, based on the time-honored oracle, offers effective guidance to this divination system which has been used for over 2,000 years. I have studied the I Ching since 1998. This edition is one of the most accurate guides (out of many) I have ever read and used. It still stands out for me. I highly recommend it to anyone who likes to understand the various meanings of the main Hexagrams as well as the six lines of each of the 64 Hexagrams. Much appreciation for it through the years.

Iching is full of knowledge and this book covers it from A to Z. This is not a typical book you read from front to back. This is a reference to use to understand the Oracle.

My favorite book to use hands down!! +++++

This is not a book for beginners. Though it does include instructions on how to divine hexagrams (using yarrow sticks, coins, etc), it requires a great deal of cross reference work, elaboration, interpretation, etc.

There are interpretations for all possible hexagrams, secondary relations, trigrams, etc.

The main use I found for the elaborations was that there was great deal of introduction to Chinese ideograms: what they represent, how they should be interpreted, etc. Each hexagram is accompanied by an ideogram, and the meaning of the ideogram is explained.

This would be more useful, in my opinion, with a good index--but even as it is, it will likely be useful as a reference.

As for its utility in interpreting the I Ching, I can't say: I haven't tried it. But it was definitely an interesting read--and as I say, would make a useful reference source.
