Just as they’re finding their footing, all of Robert’s worst fears come to life and he falters under the pressure. Niall takes the challenge to show Robert that he’s a safe place to lean on, but when his own life begins to unravel, he places his heart in Robert’s hands. I freaking loved this story. This was one of the kindest and warmest stories I’ve ever read.
ALL the five stars for it.

Robert works, mostly from home, as a web designer, this way he has more time available to be with his son Garrett. His seventeen-year-old son is who he’s living for, he’s the most important person in his life. Garrett has health problems and Robert is at his side always. It’s them against the world.

Robert has a new art director Niall and when their eyes meet there’s something. Only Robert will not give in, there is no time and room for anything like this in his life.

Robert has a support team, his best friends Jared and Sam, and Garrett’s boyfriend Presley.
They all look out for Garrett, and not only for Garrett, but these awesome lively and noisy guys also look out and wish the best for Robert. After they understand Robert is smitten by Niall the guys include Niall in their very special circle and Niall is head over heels.

The unconditional love Robert feels for his son and what they’ve been through is heartbreaking.
I couldn’t keep my eyes dry. That boy who he loved from first sight, his precious baby, now already seventeen, is the best that ever happened to him.

Niall has his own tragedy in life and this all is wonderfully entwined with the other aspects of the story.

The beautiful person Robert is, he made me cry several times, so much warmth, so much love, my heart swelled reading about this man.

This story is so utterly pure and warm, with people who felt so real in the most beautiful way, I wanted to live with them. They took my breath away.
Two selfless young boys who grow wise by what life gave them, what a team!
Friends with the best intentions who intervene are the most precious ones!

It’s a beautifully balanced story, the development was also wonderfully done, the content made me speechless. The characters stole my heart immediately, everyone has a solid place in this story, read it, and be amazed about their lives, they have so much to tell. I was deeply moved and cried my eyes out. I will return to this story more than once, I know for sure!

Look at the title… if you can feel the art of living, gosh.
What a story. Be still my heart!!

When I finished reading the Gift of Believing, I could not wait and hoped Robert would get a book. Now as much as I say this is a stand alone, you really should read The Gift of Believing because you really get to see more of Robert and what an awesome father he is to Garrett.

Robert is single and never had any relationships. His first priority is his son that has an illness. There is no question as to his love and care on Garrett. Niall is brought into the company Robert works for an is now his boss. Niall is dealing with his own family issues, I hate to say drama when death is involved.

These guys were super sweet and caring. Niall understood what Roberts needs were when it came to his family. Garrett will always take priority. I enjoyed how Niall slipped right one in with Robert, Garrett, Presley, Sam, and Jared. What an awesome found family. Love and support is the theme here and you see that from each and every character.

We met Robert in The Gift of Believing (Garrett and Presley's story, go grab it now) and he has put his personal life on hold for Garrett, he doesn't trust easily. Niall is new at work and has his own family issues but they are clearly attracted to one another.

These two are so sweet together and they don't stand a chance with everyone fighting for them to work out! I love this little extended family and I have my fingers crossed for a happy ending for some of the others and their complicated lives too.

Good story! Robert is the best dad ever, and Niall is the most patient man ever. Together, they make a great team. The side story of Garrett and Presley. Is just as engaging.
Garrett’s condition is almost heartbreaking. The fear Robert and Presley feel for his health is tangible. Robert’s sense of guilt for wanting something with Niall is also heartbreaking. Thank goodness Niall never gave up!

THE ART OF LIVING is a standalone, but it does have some of the same characters from The Gift of Believing. This is not an issue, take my word for it.

Robert is Garrett's dad and has always put Garrett first. He's had to be mum, dad, carer, you name it, and he's not prepared to let Garrett down just for the sake of getting some. Niall has his own issues to deal with, mainly a younger brother who wants him to forgive his absentee-dying dad. With so much going on, will Robert and Niall be able to be together?

This was a warm story with a gentle writing style that I thoroughly enjoyed. The issues Niall faces are unfortunately too close to home for me, and I can tell you his emotions are spot on. This hit me hard when I was reading it as that wish for what might have been.

Apart from Robert misguidedly pushing Niall away, this story is low angst. There are some steamy moments but all as part of the story, rather than just because. The characters are wonderful, and I really hope that Sam and Jared have their story told.

A great emotional novel that I thoroughly enjoyed and have no hesitation in recommending.

I just loved reading about Garratt and Presley in Abrianna Denae’s The Gift Of Believing as they were such sweeties and I can’t help but love them, so when I heard that Abrianna was writing a book from Garratt’s dad’s point of view I was excited. You could see in Garratt’s book that his dad worried about him a lot and that it must have been difficult having to worry about if his son was going to make it through each day, but his dad was a fighter.
In this book you get to experience all of the feelings and process how Robert handles everything that he goes through with Garratt and it’s such a breathtaking story. You can tell that Abrianna poured her heart into this story because it shines through the words, it’s clear that both Robert and Niall are close to her heart and it’s great that she was able to give them both a story.
It’s never easy having your child be ill and you not being able to help them, and you feel that with Robert as for all of Garratt’s life there’s been times when Robert hasn’t been able to help him and has had to sit there and it breaks his heart. But even still with having to look after him, Robert has always put his happiness and life on hold because in his eyes no one else could ever come first as Garratt needs him. You learn a lot in this book and it’s such a moving story.
There is nothing that I can fault with it, everything just flowed as it should have.
I’d highly recommend reading this because Abrianna is so talented and she always writes from the heart.

Robert has always been there for his son Garratt, he may have become a little overprotective of him, but honestly who can blame him. With his job allowing him to work from home whenever he needs to, he has everything working for him, but when he finds out that he’s got a new boss he’s worried that everything that he’s got going for him will change and that his new boss won’t be as understanding as his old boss about his home situation.
Yet, when he meets Niall (his new boss) there’s something that catches his eye, although he can’t work it out.
When his friends Sam and Jared interfere and try to meddle as they can see something is clearly going on, he tries to defuse everything because the only thing that matters to him is his son and nothing will get in the way of that.
With Niall under Robert’s skin, will he find a way to make him open his eyes and let him see that he can go ahead and grab at life???
Will Robert push away his own happiness because he’s so used to it being just him and Garratt???

The heart of this story rests in the kind of love that makes people stronger-- that brings them together, shores them up, and helps them to face the best, and the worst, together. Both Robert and Niall are deeply relatable characters, and I liked the steady strength each possesses. They have a lot in common, as both are, essentially, caretakers at heart and have had their lives shaped around looking after loved ones-- Robert for his teenage son and Niall for his younger brother. The magic of them finding, in each other, someone to take care of them as well, is real and profound. I think my favorite part of the novel, however, was more than just the developing bond between Niall and Robert-- it’s Robert’s whole intensely knit, complex, beautiful family, both biological and chosen. Garrett and Presley are magic together, and I loved Jason and Sam as well. Watching Niall find his place among them was heartwarming.

Most of the time books are a source of entertainment for me. However, every now and then I come across a book like this. It not only hit my heart, but it soothed my soul. I didn’t realize just how much I needed this.

The book is quite different from what I expected. I love the found family theme, and the author truly highlights it. It’s not just a superficial aspect of this book. Abrianna Denae goes the extra mile to showcase the importance of found family. Sometimes it’s in humorous ways, but there’s also the touch of knowing someone is always there for you. I also love how with the single dad trope, this book doesn’t just become about the two main characters but it continues to show the relationship between father and son.

This is not a typical romance book where it’s just between the two main characters and only peripheral side characters. This is a rich story line that portrays all facets of relationships. 5 heart melting stars.

The Art of Living is a wonderful short romance by Abrianna Denae. I haven't yet read the prequal, The Gift of Believing but I definitely plan to.

This is a boss/employee romance that is totally sweet.

Robert's whole world revolves around caring for his ill teenage son. He doesn't date. He does most of his work from home. And he worries. A lot.

But meeting his new boss Niall starts to change things. His new boss is understanding, supportive, and totally loving. I adore everything about these two together.

The Art of Living is beautifully written. Even the title is perfectly fitting for this Abrianna Denae gem. This book is compelling, riveting, and all consuming. It's a short quick read that will leave you totally satisfied.

And now off to read The Gift of Believing to learn more about Garrett and Presley.

CONTAINS SPOILER I read this book in the series first. The story held my attention all the way through. The characters are interesting and I had to really enjoyed how actually similar Niall and Robert are. They are both willing to prioritize what’s important. The secondary characters are entertaining. Roberts best friends go the extra mile for him and Garrett and made the warmheartedness stand out in the story. My only complaint is the ending or epilogue is 5 years later. All of sudden they are married. Garrett has had a lung transplant. They have a daughter. All this with no explanation just it’s five years later and here we are. I’ve enjoyed this author’s stories before so I’m not sure why this ending is like it is.

For me, this was less about the relationship between Robert and Niall and more about the idea of found family.
Robert and Niall each come with a lot of baggage that is mostly dealt with in the book. There's a bit of an age gap between them but Niall has had a difficult life and is very mature because of this.
It was very sweet but I felt the feelings confession was a little premature

Prepare to fall in love with these guys. I love the underlying theme of family in this book and how love can adapt and be exactly what you didn’t know you needed. Niall is perfect for Robert and Robert just takes his time learning that very fact. We also get plenty of page time to see more of Presley and Garrett.

Heartstrings and real people dialogue

This romance gives a wonderful human element to letting yourself be loved and feel worthy. Watching Niall and Robert follow their hearts was lovely. The authentic angst about the baggage we carry and if/how we lt others in was heartfelt.

I really enjoyed reading this fast reading well written romance it was so very good. When I found out I was going to be a father it was a dream come true, a family of my own but my son was born early with a host of medical issues, my wife decided it was to much and left. Through it all I was always greatful for Garrett having my son in my life was everything and when he met and feel in love with Pres our life was even better. Now these two think I should find a love of my own and after meeting Nial my new boss they think he may be the one, but only if I can let go of the past and move into the future.

Abrianna Denae, in "The Art of Living" does a beautiful job of creating a story and characters that grow within the story as well as within your heart.

Robert is the father of Garret, first seen in "The Spirit of Believing". This story is more than just a romance between Robert and Niall, but about the relationships between everyone including father and son, as well as the meaning of family and love in all forms.

This book is definitely more than just a typical M/M romance, it's a beautiful story about people. Abrianna Denae has a wonderful way of portraying her characters that makes her stories a must read on your TBR.

An emotional story which is more about the relationship between a father and son, than anything else. The romance between Robert and Niall really became the side story very quickly. Still, it's a moving read, about a group of guys finding family. Garrett (Robert's son), and his boyfriend, Presley are very cute together. Part way through this book, I decided I wanted read how they'd got together. It's worth reading their story, The Gift of Believing, before you read this one. Overall a sweet story where the author describes the complexities of relationships, and the emotions of all those involved in the story. 3.5 ⭐s

Robert Harper has dedicated his life to his only son Garrett. He has had health issues since he was born and when his mother walked away, Robert knew that he would always be there for him. And given his precarious illness, he’s been his number one priority. He’s able to work from home because his employer has been understanding about his single parenthood of an at risk child. He only goes in for important meetings. And at one of these important meetings, he meets the new Art Director, Niall Ross, and there is a spark. Of something 😉

Niall has worked hard his whole life – being both mother and father to his younger brother Ian. His father abandoned his family because of his mother’s issues and then she sunk further into addiction and then was gone too. His brother has decided to connect with their father – and Niall wants no part of it. It’s now causing problems in their relationship.

Robert’s best friends, Sam and Jared, can tell that Robert has a thing for Niall and they are determined to get them together. Their interference is the best thing to happen to both Robert and Niall since neither would have been willing to take the risk on their own. There is a bit of a slow burn for them – what with Robert’s worry over Garrett and Niall’s conflict with Ian due to the pressing nature of their father. But when Niall’s family issues come to a head, Robert is there for him.

Garrett has been doing well, but when Robert and Niall aren’t there and he has a crisis, Robert goes completely off the rails. His friends and family have to talk him down and Niall continues to be there for him. Niall has the patience of a saint. He understands Robert’s misplaced guilt and anger at the lack of control of his situation. Luckily for both men, Niall isn’t willing to just give up 🙂

I really enjoyed this story. I’ve not read any books by this author before, so it was a good introduction I think. Niall and Robert are both likable and believable characters. Robert’s love for his son was so much a part of him and actually makes him MORE attractive to Niall given his past with his own father and mother. He’s extremely impressed by Robert’s willingness to put his son first and understand that is the way it should be when a child is involved – let alone a sick child. Robert’s fears of not being there for his son are clearly communicated and he’s honest and forthright about where his priorities lie – not that he doesn’t care for Niall, but that for him, Garrett will have to be first since he needs Robert so much. Garrett is a mature kid for his age and I think when a person has grown up with that kind of illness it seems to contribute to a different perspective on life. I also loved Sam and Jared, Robert’s best meddling friends 😉 They really want Robert to be happy and live a little. I honestly can’t wait for their story – which I hope is coming soon 🙂 Recommended particularly for fans of stories featuring more mature characters who finally get their HEA.

Let me start by saying that the author recommends reading the first novella in this series and I don't find that you need to read it. In fact, I really wish I hadn't. it was a really hard read. However, while serious, this one isn't nearly as difficult.

Robert is a single dad and is son was born a premie with one lung. It's always been up to him to take care of him and his dad guilt prevented him from pursuing a relationship. Niall spent his entire life caring for his little brother and is struggling now that his brother wants a relationship with their absentee father.

Their romance is sweet, but not easy. At times one, or both, had second thoughts and did their best to push the other away. However, Robert's friends and son ensure that the two of them stay together.

The book doesn't focus on the illness of his son, but there are moments that may be triggering if you are a parent of a chronically ill child or if you were one. Other than that, it's a nice read.

I received an ARC, but all thoughts and opinions are my own.

This book was a lovely short story romance. After meeting Robert in The Gift of Believing, I knew there were going to be some heavy moments in this book, but they would make the story wonderful.
As a father to a chronically ill child Robert has always put his romantic life on the back burner. All he ever needed was for his son to be happy and healthy. For 16 years he lives and breathes for his son but he has never found someone to take care of him and hold him up while he is taking care of Garrett.
Niall is a younger man and also Robert’s new boss, but that doesn’t stop the instant connection both men feel for each other. When life events shake the ground that Niall stands on he knows he needs Robert more than anyone. He also needs the friends and family he has gained by having a relationship with Robert.
Both men go through their own trials during this book and they overcome them by leaning on each other and not fighting for their love when one starts to push the other away.
One of the shining moments for me was seeing Robert not only be a father to Garrett, but helping both Garrett and Pres with their health struggles. Robert is a rock for both of them and having him help through this moment in the book was breathtaking.

Having Jared, Sam, Garrett and Pres meddle in their relationship to get the men together was full of laughs. There are heart breaking times are you would expect when reading about a family who has a child with health issues, but it is a great read to so see that both Robert and Garrett have a wonderful support system when it all gets to be too much.

I truly enjoyed and I am hoping I will be able to read Sam and Jared next!

Independent reviewer for Gay Romance Reviews, I was gifted my copy of this book.
Robert and Niall find themselves working together. But Robert works mostly from home, looking after his son, Garrett, who has some major health issues. Niall is dealing with his own personal issues. They keep crossing paths though, and soon turn to each other in time of need. But can they stay together?
I liked this, I liked it a lot. I think I might have actually enjoyed it more, had it come out clean. I just felt the token sex scene was thrown in, it did not need it though.
I liked Robert’s friends and how they, along with Garrett and his boyfriend, gang up on Robert, and indeed, on Niall too, to get them on that first date. They fall fast, I think, for each other, but for me, maybe too fast for the “I love you’s” to appear.
For me, though, the stars of this book are Garrett and his boyfriend, Presley. These guys are so freaking cute together! So perfect for each other. They have their own story, before this one. I would not have read that, ordinarily, as its tagged as Young Adult and I tend to avoid those, but I think I would like to read it. Presley, especially, is an interesting young man, and some things were raised here that I need following up.
But Robert and Niall’s book was a sweet romance, that passed a few quiet hours at work.

This is a beautiful story! <3

The Art of Living is the first book I’ve read by Abrianna Denae and I loved it. It’s just the kind of story that I love to read…one that stirs up my emotions and makes me feel things.

Robert’s son, Garrett, has been fighting health problems since birth and now that he’s in his late teens Robert still can’t let go of the feeling that he has to be there every minute in case Garrett needs him.

Niall has his own issues. He and his brother are on the outs with each other and it’s wearing on him. He’s very attracted to Robert from the time they first meet. He really admires Robert for how he cares for his son.

This story really got to me in places and made the tears fall (that means I loved it). It touched my heart so much because of how the characters all cared so much for each other. This is a standalone story but I wish I’d read Garrett’s story – The Gift of Believing – first simply because I’d like to know how he and Presley became an item.

There were two very interesting secondary characters, Jared and Sam, and I really want to read their story. I don’t know if the author plans to write it but if she does, I’ll be reading it. I don’t often give new-to-me authors a five-star review for their first book I read but this one deserved every one of them.

A copy of this book was provided to me at my request but my review was voluntary and not influenced by the author.

I had the advantage of having read The Gift of Believing first so I was already familiar with Robert, Garrett's dad. That story is the tale of how Garrett and Presley meet but it is not necessary in order to enjoy this story. You would just be familiar with the teenagers' backgrounds. Robert has devoted his entire adult life to caring for his chronically ill son, Garrett, who is now a very well adjusted teenager. He has also basically adopted his son's boyfriend Presley since his homelife isn't that great. He has never really taken anything for himself or had any relationships that lasted in years. This all starts to change when Niall is hired at his firm. Niall has been through a similar situation in his life, caring for his younger brother Ian. These two have an instant connection that just can't be denied. What remains to be seen is whether Robert will actually allow Niall to get close or will he push him away when things get rough. Niall just had to convince him that he is here for everything. This was such a sweet story. I loved how Niall refuses to let Robert push him away and it doesn't hurt that everyone close to Robert keeps encouraging him and interfering. Robert's friends won't let him be alone. I enjoyed it quite a bit and would read it again. I am curious to know the story behind Jared and Sam though.

There are several different kinds of love portrayed in this book. Robert and his son, Garrett, share a love between father and son that is a shining light throughout the story. Garrett is sharing first love with his boyfriend Presley, and it is sweet and pure, strong and supportive. Robert has very close friends named Jared and Sam, who are in love but unable to follow their feelings because Jared is already attached although very unhappy. Robert has great love for his friends who have stood staunchly at his side as he navigates raising a child with severe health problems. Finally, Robert meets the new boss of his department at work, Niall and it's instant attraction on both sides. Niall is several years younger but is very drawn to Robert. Robert mostly shuns relationships because all of his time is devoted to caring for and being there for his son.

The author tells this tale with great sympathy and care. Characters are beautifully drawn and totally sincere. The hurdles in the way of a relationship between Robert and Niall are neatly crossed and a happy ending leaves a beautiful feeling with the reader. I received an ARC and this is my honest review.

This was an incredibly sweet story. Living with a chronic illness is beyond hard, it is almost impossible for people who haven't experienced it, to understand how much one has to struggle each day to barely exist, not to mention do anything else. Author did a great job portraying the ups and downs of struggling with it, mostly from the family's perspective, but there is also some insight into the sick person's state of mind.

Robert was incredible, dedicating himself and everything he has into providing for his sick son. He was loyal, loving and utterly selfless, focusing on providing his son with everything the boy might need so he does not feel like anything is lacking in his life. Granted, he has taken it a step too far, forgetting to how to live and enjoy life himself, which is why Niall came into his life right on time. There is not much action in this one, it is all about the feelings, the deep emotions and connecting with people even when it seems impossible. It is a sweet and emotional read that will certainly touch the heart.

This is a summary of a story about Robert Harper and Niall Ross, two men who have spent their adult lives as caregivers and now struggle to accept love and vulnerability for themselves. Robert has defined himself for seventeen years by his role as a protector and caregiver for his son and is terrified his life is too complicated for a relationship. Niall is finally ready to build a life for himself after years of caring for his younger brother. They share an instant connection, and with Niall's patience and Robert's family's help, they begin a tentative romance. However, when Robert's worst fears come true, he falters. Niall steps up to be Robert's safe haven, but then Niall's own life starts to unravel, forcing him to rely on Robert.

I enjoyed this short story where they explored whether these two fiercely independent men could overcome their fears and embrace vulnerability to let love win. It was also great to read more about Garrett’s and Presley. The troubles that Robert and Niall faced made them more real and relatable. Everything was easy to understand and feel. This was an MM story.

This is a quick and sweet story that deals well with some very difficult issues, has interesting characters and an intriguing storyline. I do wish that I had read the previous book as I would love to know more about Presley and how he and Garrett met. The romance between Robert and Niall is definitely not the main focus of this story but the relationship between Robert and his son is wonderful. Robert has spent the last seventeen years supporting and loving Garrett through his illness and he has a very difficult time even thinking about doing something for himself. Niall has been dealing with some family issues of his own but once he meets Robert he wants to spend more time with him. They have a few obstacles to deal with but luckily Niall is unwilling to give up on Robert. My favorite part of this story are the secondary characters as they are amazing and I hope to see more of all of them in the future.

I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book.

When you dedicate your life to carry others, who carries you? Robert, has dedicated his life to his son Garrett. He has a spot in his office, when he needs to connect with the team, but he usually works from home. Niall Ross is the new art director starting on Wed. They each notice the other. They each drag some heavy commitment responsibility baggage in their lives. It's hard to put down and they are in a bit of their own ruts. They get closer. Will they be able to let go? Will they be able to step to a new phase of their lives? Will they be able to let their responsibilities go and execute some self care? Can they have their own relationship? Will they stay, or will they go? Nice story. Compassionate solutions to comples problems. This story just holds your heart and gently massages. The extended family provides a good support structure. Nicely done. I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review.
