Meet a green-fingered family whose diverse community is bursting with love in this lushly illustrated and lyrical picture book.
This beautiful and warmly-told story teaches us that love really does grow everywhere, in all shapes, forms, and sizes.
Through gentle, rhyming text and vibrant illustrations , feel the love in a close-knit family who grow plants and sell them in their local market, and discover the types of love that exist in the many homes of their diverse community.
There are kisses from Dad, songs with Grandma, charity from neighbours and playtime with friends. There’s old love, new love and everything in between!
But there’s a new kid who is not quite so sure... Can the gardeners’ daughter be brave and extend the love to him?
Beautiful and characterful illustrations from the exceptionally talented Tisha Lee help bring this book to life, and the gentle rhyming text from Barry Timms helps underscore the message of kindness, charity, and love.
This warm and charming tale, perfect for Valentine’s Day and beyond, celebrates the many different ways love grows to make a brighter world.
Barry enjoys the way that stories bring people together. After many years spent editing children’s books, he is now telling tales of his own. Barry lives by an old water tower in South London and can often be found with pencil in hand, writing or drawing or both. He likes road movies, ghost trains and exploring forgotten side streets.
What a Heart-warming and Precious Children's Picture Book. Not only is the text all in rhyming verse which was cleverly plotted the illustrations are superb.
Love Grows Everywhere is a beautiful story that teaches children that Love and Kindness is everywhere. It uses plants as a way to show children the beauty of love, growth, and kindness. A small act of kindness means everything, from a treasured song, a funny joke, to a hug, or to helping give to charity it will always brighten someone's day.
I think children aged 4-7years will really enjoy reading this book. The younger readers may need a little help with some of the wording but it would make a lovely story time read.
Thank you to Quarto Publishing Group and Netgalley for my copy which I reviewed honestly and voluntarily.
I received an advance reader copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review via netgalley and the publishers.
Love Grows Everywhere is a really sweet book to show children the different ways we can show love and kindness to others, in ways me may not even think we are doing it. This book is a lovely, gentle read with rhyming verses that flow so smoothly through the host of beautiful illustrations. There is so much to see on every page and some great places to stop and discuss things happening in the book as you read along with your child. Books like this are always a delight to read!
5★ “Yes, thought and care are all love needs to help it grow, like tiny seeds,”
What a little charmer this book is! Lots of colour, detailed pictures, easy poetry that actually rhymes and scans, and plants! Lots and lots of plants!
The opening page shows an aerial view of a little world with four corners separated by a river and winding road, as if these little communities are near each other. Of course they aren’t, but they all have something in common. Greenery and people hugging, waving, petting cats, and generally showing affection and good will. Then we see a closer view. “Love grows everywhere, from country farm to city square, from desert village, hot and dry to mountain home where eagles fly.”
Someone brings plants home to a group (a family?) that has pots waiting. We follow a young child with a greenish beanie as they help water the plants and play with the grownups. “A gentle hug, a perfect kiss, a song to bring back times you miss.”
Then the story moves outside, where we see some new people move into the neighbourhood. Note the youngster hanging back by the palm tree, behind the action, while “our” little kid is watching someone from their family (if they are a family) help with the boxes from the truck. “But there are others we might see who need our help or charity. As flowers turn towards the sun, loves friendly smile greets everyone.”
This is followed by lots of vibrantly colourful pictures of the neighbourhood in action – people sharing a coffee, chatting between balconies, smiling and friendly. But all is not well with the new kid on the block. “Love may hide away . . . when times are hard and skies are gray.”
But fear not! The sad child isn’t as hidden as they think. Our little friend from the green-thumb group sees something’s wrong and decides to risk visiting to share some joy. “But if we’re brave, perhaps we’ll dare to show how much we really care.”
Children can be remarkably quick at finding things in common if they’re left alone. Have a look at how these two pair up. “A kind of magic happens then and love begins to grow again.”
I don’t know if you can see that they are watering a flower and reading a book together about plants. “Love grows everywhere. Enough for all. A gift to share. Budding, branching, leaves unfurled, Love will make a brighter world.”
This is a very small book with several very big messages, delivered so appealingly that we want to live here ourselves. There are as many different kinds of people as there are beautiful plants. It wouldn’t matter who you are, you’d fit right in.
Ages range from zero to a hundred (well, near enough) and there are different abilities, talents and relationships represented.
We don’t know where this is or what national or racial identities people might align themselves with. We can’t tell what sex or gender people are.
So?
None of that matters, does it? “Love will make a brighter world.”
It’s a magic little book!
My thanks to NetGalley and Frances Lincoln Children’s Books for the preview copy from which I’ve shared some illustrations.
A simple but charming read that celebrates love and its power. From the lyrical text and vibrant illustrations to the diversity and wonderful message, what's not to love about this book? 😉
'Love Grows Everywhere' focuses on a family spreading love and kindness through their small plant business.
The illustrations are beautiful. The sentence structure, and the poetry aspect are done incredibly well. It may sound silly to say but everything seems to fit together, the lyrics, the words, the illustrations. This story is truly, truly amazing, and I really appreciated how each character had their own unique differences.
I would recommend this story for ages eight and below. If it is going to be used for older readers (beyond the usage of building fluency and comprehension), it needs to be used well linking to topics such as kindness, acceptance, or family.

Thank you to netgallery for allowing me to read such a beautifully written book
A festive celebration of love, in all its forms, written in verse and illustrated in beautiful, painstaking detail. This book is an inspirational dedication to kindness and love big and small. A great read aloud to share with little ones. The pictures are fun to explore and connect the whole work together nicely.
Usually, I don't love when a picture book has a lot going on in the pictures - it can be hard to follow for littles - but this one tells such a beautiful story with the pictures. The written story is gorgeous and fluid and poetic, but the story told within the artwork is vast and wonderful and honestly just beautiful.
This book is about the power of love, and the many ways in which we can love. How love is not about a place, but a feeling.
This is the kind of book that is beautiful all year but will be a staple in our house for Valentine's Day for years and years to come.
"Love grows everywhere" does a great job of explaining that love shows up in many different forms. The author describes many different ways love can be shown, be it by telling a joke to cheer someone up, being a helping hand, giving a hug, etc. The is also a rhyming book, which can be used as a tool to teach children rhyming and have them predict the following words. Additionally, the illustrations can be used as conversation starters, such as "what are these people on the corner doing to show love? can you demonstrate how you can show someone love?"
The illustrations are beautiful and fun. The stories are meaningful and provide a good lesson for children on how their emotions can be handled and why are they feeling these emotions, however I believe they would need to be guided by an adult in order to understand the lesson as it won't be completely straight forward for them.
This is a beautifully illustrated book about love in all forms. It gives kids examples of the different ways it can be shown and nurtured. It's perfect for Valentine's Day.
This unbiased review is based on a complimentary copy provided by the publisher.
Is it about love, or is it about plant-life? Well, the text says one thing while the visuals – they show both growing, from a neighbourhood of pleasant people to kids falling out and making up, all surrounded by nurtured greenery. It's a pleasant and, well, green slice of positivity – the rhymed text well-sustained and managing to convey its hopefulness very well.
Love Grows Everywhere is the anthem I didn't know I needed but I am so glad that I now have. It is a beautifully written book, and can we give a round of applause to the illustrations! I enjoy it when the illustrations alone can tell me the same story I am reading, and Love Grows Everywhere does exactly that. Love is just bursting out of this book, a true winner because it would make a very treasured gift to any child.
A nice book about love. How love can be found anywhere and everywhere without conditions, boundaries and color of the skin.
I liked the illustrations very much. Simple and lovely.
Thank you Netgalley and Quarto Publishing Group – Frances Lincoln Children's Books, Frances Lincoln Children's Books for the ARC in exchange of an honest review.
In 'Love grows everywhere', we follow a close knit family in their community.
The family grow and sell plants at their local market and all the while, they demonstrate how love grows through their interactions with each other and their neighbors.
The writing is poetic, with each point illustrated to bring it into context. One of my favorite lines 'Love grows on the street... And reaches out to those we meet.'
We see the little girl of the family, offering her friendship to a lonely boy who's just moved next door. But we also see smaller gestures like making a loved one smile, hugging, playing music, waving, sharing a drink, gifting and romance developing.
My favorite pages are the double page spreads where you can see large parts of the square or the town. My son and I take a moment to look at what everyone is doing. I ask him to identify where he can see love in the pictures and describe it. It makes for a lovely conversation every time.
Love blossoms just as a plant does if you give it the attention it needs. It's no coincidence that thriving plant life features heavily in these colorful pages alongside examples of positive human interactions to fully illustrate this concept.
You could call this a children's valentine's book, but that would be unfairly limiting. Anyone of any age would enjoy reading this, any time of year!
This is a lovely lyrical picture book with rich detailed illustrations that invite the reader right into the story. The book links the nurturing heart of a plant lover with the love that sustains our relationships.
Love is found to blossom everywhere all around the world: in rural areas, crowded cities, remote desert villages and homes located high in the mountains. It is a powerful, positive force that binds people together and transcends race, language and locations.
The rhyming text and wonderful detailed illustrations allow the reader to experience the love of a family who grows and sells all types of plants in their local market. As the family journeys along they discover and explore various types of love found in their diverse community.
One little child who is new to the community is apprehensive and the gardener's daughter extends to him a gift that will cheer him up and confirm that he is indeed welcome and loved. Themes of kindness, acceptance, charity and love are highlighted in "Love Grows Everywhere".
This is a perfect heartwarming book to share around Valentine's Day. It is a delightful celebration of love and an awakening to the fact that love truly does grow and flourish everywhere!
This is an amazing little picture book, but don't let the size fool you. It is filled with hope and heart and gratitude and above all, love. It shows how love helps us grow in all things and how when we offer love to others, we are helping them grow as well. It reminds us all that love and kindness are everywhere [even when you think you have to look long and hard for it] and even when you cannot see it, it is there. It shows that even the smallest act [throughout the book, plants and flowers are used in regards to passing kindness and love to others, which is awesome] of kindness can make a huge difference in someone's life and that is a lesson that is so greatly needed these days.
Gorgeously illustrated, the story is just brought to life by the brightly colored pictures and they just enhance the story so much. There is so much to see in the illustrations that you and your littles will have just as much fun finding things in the illustrations as you will have enjoying this lovely story. So well done!!
Thank you to NetGalley, Barry Timms, Tisha Lee [Illustrator], and Quarto Publishing Group - Frances Lincoln Children's Books for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Love Grows Everywhere is a sweet rhyming story about how love can be found everywhere. I love the metaphor of love growing like a seed and how the author included plants in the illustrations throughout the story. This book features a diverse cast of characters throughout the community. Although the story is seasonally appropriate for Valentine's Day, there is no mention or focus on that holiday so it's fitting for any time of year. I love the illustrations in this book...between the diversity representation and the lush greenery, this is a book that I would read over and over again just to enjoy those aspects.
The main thing that I disliked about this book (and the reason that I rated it 4/5) is that some of the text doesn't track across the page naturally. For example, one page spread had text at the top of the page, in the middle, and at the bottom of the next page. This may not have been a problem, but the words in the middle didn't stand out to me and I skipped over them on my initial read. Otherwise, I thought this was a great picture book.
I would recommend this book to preschool and up. It would be a fun addition to public, school, and home libraries. I look forward to reading other books by this author!

I received an e-arc of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
This was a very moving book. I read this picture book with my five year old. The intricate pictures drew us in to each page to notice every little detail. The rhyming and rhythm of the words both enthrall children and promote developmental early reading and language skills. The message that no matter how different we all are and how different our homes and experiences; we all need and thrive on love. There are many kinds of love and love can be shown in many ways. I very much appreciated that in a child appropriate way the book acknowledges that sometimes things are not always the way we would like but with love we can make it through. I plan to order this one to share with the children I volunteer with in foster care. This is the perfect message for them and for many. 5/5
Love is an emotion, a unique and special feeling. But where is it, can we see it?
Love Grows Everywhere is an illustrated children's book that shows children through simple, everyday examples what love is and how we can make it grow and spread a little bit more every day.
Love Grows Everywhere also talks about important values such as kindness, friendship and companionship. And how through small gestures we can change our day and that of the people around us.
It is written in verse form with a clear, simple and very tender language. Love Grows Everywhere manages to explain and transmit to children what love is in its broadest form and the importance and repercussion it has in our lives.
This book is a tribute to love in all its forms and expressions. Its reading leaves us with very good feelings, illusion and optimism regardless of our age.
"Love lifts hearts an minds and comes in many different kinds. The kind that grows in peace and shade. The kind too bright to ever fade."
Call me emotional, but this book made me want to burst in tears at the circulation desk. This is the book I want to buy for everyone, every child, everybody who wants a child. The book physically feels nice, with its matte pages that make me feel privileged to hold the illustrations in my hand rather than admiring them from afar on a wall. And those illustrations..! The first thing I noticed was the diversity of noses on the women, Disney-faces be damned!
But the illustrations themselves; the colors, the acrylic medium, the various ways Barry Timms writes about love and Tisha Lee illustrates them--combined, this makes for a wonderful, beautiful book that is a perfect centerpiece for any bookshelf.
Such a sweet, sweet read. Barry Timm’s gently flowing lyrical text easily draws parallels between love and nature; between growing plants and relationships; and is such a delight to read over and over again. Tisha Lee’s accompany illustrations are the perfect complement to this heartwarming read adding to the narrative effortlessly. The book celebrates love in all its forms; in families and communities; between friends, couples, parents and children, siblings, and more.
So check out this book today and be ready to be happier than before (even if you were already) as you reach the end. And did I already mention that the book is perfect to read out loud? I did not?! Well, the rhymes are so sing-songy that you should read it aloud.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for this review copy.
This is such a sweet celebration of love, in all its wonderful forms! Using a broad metaphor of plants, the story illustrates the power of love in families and communities and between friends and couples. Readers are reminded that love is resilient and that there's always enough to go around.
Told in gentle rhymes, the text will engage young listeners. The illustrations are gorgeous! They're all lively and detailed, but there's some especially nice two-page spreads that kids can really pore over to spot all of small stories hiding in the pictures. This would be a lovely circle time read and a fantastic addition to pre-K and elementary school and community libraries!
Many thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review!
What a great book, with really nice illustrations, giving you lots and lots to look at, however, it's the message that truly appeals to me. It teaches children about love and kindness, and that there are so many simple and easy ways to show someone how much you care. A gentle hug, a helping hand, a kind word, or maybe just a funny joke to name a few. The author also uses the artwork of the plants and flowers to demonstrate the different approaches you can take in showing that there's more than one kind of love to give. I'm giving the Love That Grows Everywhere a 4-star review.
Thank you to Netgalley and Quarto Publishing Group – Frances Lincoln Children's Book for this Arc. The review and opinions are solely my own.
I received an electronic ARC from Quarto Publishing Group – Frances Lincoln Children's Books through NetGalley. Sweet and encouraging story for children of all ages. Readers see a comparison between people and plants to see how both grow. Timms offers a look at how many places/types/ways love blooms. The characters figure out how to connect with each other and their emotions and establish new relationships when needed. The illustrations offer a clear view of the emotions involved and how the characters relate to each other and their environment. Terrific book for families when they face changes in their lives.
A cute description of places where love can grow. Illustrations include people of color, locations are bright and varied, A reminder that love has many kinds, and inclusive of many types and colors of people, hair, love, and plants which represent the growth of love. A very inclusive children's story about how love can be found anywhere and take many forms, even when it may seem to be hiding. A very encouraging and thoughtful children's book. Would make a great gift. I received an ARC from Net Galley in exchange for my honest review. The opinions expressed here are solely my own and do not reflect the publisher or author.
Love Grows Everywhere is a sweet story about a family who grows all types of plants and sells them throughout their diverse community. Their love is shown through the seeds and plants they grow, but then extends to all kinds of love. Tisha Lee’s illustrations are gorgeous and add to the rhyming text that Barry Timms has created. This is a wonderful story that reminds us that love really does grow everywhere. Thank you to Frances Lincoln Children’s Books, an imprint of The Quarto Group, and NetGalley for sharing this eARC for review. #barrytimms @tishalee_art @quartokids #LoveGrowsEverywhere #NetGalley
“Love lifts hearts and minds and comes in many kinds.” ~ Barry Timms
Love Grows Everywhere ‘s lyrical and poetic text is a delightful, love letter to our diverse and beautiful world. Tisha Lee’s artwork reveals the essence of the poem, while telling a story of a stunning, diverse community, depicting kindness, acceptance, and love. A family of gardeners lovingly tend and sell the plants that they grow. In their community, readers see love of many kinds. When a new boy moves to the neighborhood, can the gardener’s daughter show kindness and acceptance towards him? This is the perfect picture book to share when discussing kindness, caring, acceptance, and of course, love.
