Music to my Ears

Rate this book
"He had one of those side, half smiles that you read about...I always thought that was absolute nonsense - no single smile could make you want to cry out for mercy, but there you have it.
I did manage to, however, maintain enough of my dignity to cry on the inside."

Allie could sum up her entire life in two whole minutes. She lived walking distance to everything; work, her best friend's place and perhaps most importantly, the 24-hour corner store that was only a 1-minute walk away. Allie frequently sought comfort from the bottom of premixed brownie boxes at all times of the evening when she perused the baking aisle alone, until one night...

Wyatt Smith was the frontman of the most popular modern rock band to date. Lady Luck travelled the world, their look and their music was recognized by everyone, everywhere. That was until he found himself the midnight errand boy for a runaway baking ingredient where he met Allie. And she had absolutely no idea who he was...

It's true that when someone catches your eye you start to see them everywhere.

But what happens when you do see them again?

Sometimes it's easier to put feelings in boxes, and sometimes it's easier to run away when the going gets tough. But sometimes you find someone to help you unpack, someone who will stand beside you, feel the fear, and take that leap of faith with you.

"Feel the fear..."

As usual I'm horrible at writing reviews, however, please dont let that stopping you from picking up this book. I've never been big on Contemporary Romance novels, but I decided to step outside my comfort zone for this one because the synopsis just called out to me.

I did have some high expectations from reading the Terraleise series also by Celine, and this one did not disappoint and throughly rocked my socks off!

The story follows Allie, a very relatable character and Dax, super duper hot rock star also known as Wyatt Smith. I LOVE rockstars and this whole time I had picture in my head of Remmington Leith but with red hair in my head the whole time, but I digress.

This book had me smiling and laughing along with the characters and tearing up a bit where appropriate. And hungry, I had a craving for Spaghetti and Meatballs throughout.

This is also why I don't usually read standalone's either. Because they always want me leaving me wanting more.

I had really high expectations going into this book, having read Celine's other two books and absolutely loving them. This one was completely different, a contemporary romantic comedy that had me in all my feels. I laughed with Wallie and cried with Wallie, quiet literally actually. I could not put this one down at all.

Allie was amazing. I loved that her character was so relatable. Almost typical 25 year old just trying to get on by untill her life is turned upside down (in a good way). DAX, HOLLY MOLLY DAX, I am not in any way into rock musicians, never have been, but I'm adding Dax to my list of rock star boyfriends! Thanks for that Celine, I owe you one! Really all the characters too. I can't say anyone was not written well, every character was so perfectly described it was so easy to picture the scenes and get so attached.

Seriously this book literally had be smiling from ear to ear, laughing with Allie and Dax and then even crying with them, both of sadness and joy. And that Epilogue, if the actual story couldn't get any better that epilogue was the cherry on the cake for me.

I don't normally favour contemporary romantic comedies as I usually read Fantasy but I am so glad i stepped out of my comfort zone for this one. This was AMAZING. I honestly feel like rereading it already. Thank you Celine for blessing us with another incredible story.

Music To My Ears is a compelling love story intertwined with music and hope and new beginnings, and I rode that happy train all the way to the end of this stunning masterpiece.

I could not put this book down. I fell in love with Allie and Dax’s journey as soon as I met them both. I related to Allie on a spiritual level. All of her mannerisms are my mannerisms to the point where it was freaky. From her need to hit the elevator button a hundred times, to how beautifully weird she is. It just made me fall in love with her right from the start.

Dax was everything I have always wanted in a boyfriend. He stole my heart right from the first mention of that sexy side smile. I don’t know if guys like him exist in the real world, but reading this book gave me hope that guys like him really do exist.

Reading this book was like being in the early stages of a relationship. The talking phase at the beginning, where you can’t get enough of each other, and always lunge for your phone with so much giddy excitement when you see their name pop up. Talking until four in the morning, and when you see each other in person you can’t keep your hands off each other. Every part of this book made me miss relationships. It made me long to find my own Dax. And I absolutely loved it. I was totally there for it.

Not to mention, I have always been a huge lover of ‘the girl meets the rockstar and doesn’t even know it’ trope. Is that a trope? Either way, I loved it so much.

This book makes me want to read more contemporary romance.

This book gave me so much hope that I will find my happily ever after.

This book was so amazing that I have to say it is my absolute favourite read of 2021 so far.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves love, who is a big fan of hope, and needs a great pick me up. This book made me feel so much better. And now that I’m finished, I’m really sad that the characters’ story has come to an end.

But I would 100% recommend this book to literally everyone.

I think it’s safe to say this is now my favourite book.

This was such a fun, light, easy to read Rom Com.
It was the perfect standalone palate cleanser I needed to break me out of a reading slump.
It had me laughing, smirking, feeling sad and feeling so happy and proud of the personal growth of the characters.
Another Brilliant book from Celine L A Simpson,

Overall I enjoyed the book! Tugs at your hearstrings in a couple places for sure. There are a few typos or oddly worded sentences, but I read the Kindle edition. The text-message conversation formatting was a little hard to follow. I understand it was written on both the left and right to mimic a phone screen display, but it took a second to get it straight especially when there was a page break.

I was confused by the whole "put the kettle on to boil for the pasta" (40%). I am usually fine with UK words as I consume enough varied media, but this one threw me. I thought a kettle typically was a teapot style whether it's the US or UK use of "kettle". I would understand using a kettle for instant noodles (and I have!) but for actual spaghetti and meatballs I can't imagine using a kettle.

I'm a little curious about no one catching on to them dating and making it public knowledge. No they didn't go out often, but he declared directly to the three people in the ice cream shop that she was his girlfriend and they walked together almost every day. I feel like that could have been an interesting aspect too of a "normal" person dating someone in an apparently world-famous band.

I appreciated the inclusion of them both working on their issues instead of just "fixing" everything with a relationship. It wasn't a huge or detailed section of the story, and it didn't have to be, but just having Allie saying they both needed to face their personal traumas was a nice touch. There were only a few pages between the two of them talking about what they were doing and the realizations they had and that was enough.

Rock star meets shy girl story that melts my heart!!! Celine L.A. Simpson

Such a cute love story about knowing that you are enough and that our pasts are what makes us strong. Dax and Allie have such a cute chemistry that it almost makes me want to go to a corner store and bump into a rock star hottie.
It is a fast read, with an easy story flow and enough character development to make me tear up for Allie as she explains her struggles. There is a bit of spiciness to it, nothing too crazy but enough to show their relationship's development.

I have to admit that I've read this book more than once because it is so cute.

I enjoyed reading this book, Allie and Dax's story is so beautiful. I would have liked to see some of the lyrics to the song that Dax wrote for Allie, and the fact that the song is called "6 out of 10" made me even more curious because it has everything to do with their love story, but apart from that, it was an easy read. I highly recommend it.

Enjoyable and easy read. The ending felt kinda rushed though. It seemed like the author needed to jam conflict into the end of the book, and instead of using fame/paparazzi used an annoying character and not super believable chain of events

Good story.

I really liked this book. Allie and Dax's story was super cute. I did wish we could have heard the song he wrote for her, but besides that, it was a good read.

Though read this first book in a two part series after the sequel, the read was seamless.

Hope this Aussie author will continue to
turn out more contemporary rock and roll romance like these. Definitely less on the spice level than Julia Wolf but the storylines are believable and the endings so satisfying.

I stumbled upon this book on kindle unlimited and the bright red hair on the cover caught my attention. I'm very happy that I decided to give it a chance, even though it didn't have any ratings on Amazon. This one was REALLY CUTE. It's a quick read and left me with warm feelings and wanting more.
