Amon has seen it all in the thousands of years he's walked this earth. As a demon, he's only ever wanted to live and feed unnoticed. But his need for blood always brought trouble. Finally, he’s devised a foolproof plan to meet his needs and the needs of monsters like him. With the help of his demon son, a bloodthirsty vampire, a dark witch, and two very feral sirens, they will hunt humans who have sinned in the vilest ways. This savage hunt will not only feed them but deliver revenge the humans so desire. His flawless plan won’t ever shatter. He’d bet his existence on it.

Amon, an ancient demon, just wants to hunt in peace, so sets up a sanctuary of sorts for monsters. The hotel is occupied by only select monsters (who play by the rules) and a trustworthy bank of human staff. The guests... humans, who have done questionable or downright horrible things. They are invited to the hotel and judged as to whether their acts are severe enough to become monster food, basically. Despite the dark and adult subject matter (side note, the warning at the start of the book piqued my curiosity, that's for sure) this book was a very easy read, and that says a lot about the writing. Really unique story, dark and 'real' monster vibes, and detailed enough without feeling gratuitous. Makes you wonder who the 'monsters' really are....
This books was so good to read and if I didn't focus in the middle of this post It will ended as not a review post but about a plot post! All the characters have a story that make total sense for me. I didn't find any loose ends that irritate me and actually loved how the "monsters" got their place in the Court and life! The plot line is never broken, you actually can remember the last time a member of the Court was mentioned or what was is last action without thinking "who are you?" The last chapters I was getting nervous and with that feeling "something will happens and it will be bad!" Never realize that the end will be like that! If a second books comes I will devore it for sure!
Well, alright! I've seen the author and some of her other readers say that this is a lot darker than her other stuff and I got admit this is the 1st book I've read by this author but I do look forward to more. Imagine that you are a famous influencer and people Just cannot stop disappointing you. They don't seem to understand how important you are.You have certain requirements that should be met. It's not your fault everyone around you keeps failing you.And then comes an invitation To be part of the prestige group Invited to spend time at a magnificent hotel With all sorts of special amenities. These invitations are not for the riff raff common man. They're only for special people like you. Of course you jump at the chance even though You're not to take your phone or any other devices .Finally you're going to get treated Like you deserve. The problem is "Like you deserve" isn't up for you to decide.
This might get a bit... Messy. Remember the episode of supernatural when the boys had to deal with Kali, Ganesh, Odin all in one night? Oh yeah. That.
I read this originally when it was first published as Court of Savages. I am not one to re-read books but boy oh boy! Christy took an amazing story and twisted it even more. Even if you read the original, I highly recommend reading this updated version. It's more graphic and descriptive, not as YA as it once was.
With Savage Hunt, Christy Sloat took a truly unique idea, dipped it in darkness, and then rolled it in a disturbing amount of evil. If you like a scary story that will make you squirm in your seat while cheering for unusual characters, this is the book for you.
Aaah! This book screams ‘wasted potential.’ Besides the mistakes and dodgy formatting, the one-dimensional characters and repetitive plot just fell completely flat. This book is about a group of supernatural beings living in a hotel together murdering humans… that should be cool! That should be exciting! It should be beautifully brutal! There should be banter, bickering, backstabbing, ethical conundrums… but everything just sort of ran super smoothly and then it ended? No character development besides some chemistry-lacking romances, no one really learned anything from this experience… there just wasn’t really any point? Besides killing some bad people but then again… aren’t all those supernatural creatures technically serial killers? So.. who are they to judge… really?
Also the lack of meaty backstories for these supernatural beings that had been around for centuries hurt me. This novel could have easily been 100 pages longer if the author fleshed out these characters personalities to a point where the reader could actually feel them and understand them. There were demons in the story and not even a mention of the Devil? And that would make sense if they came from hell to find souls deserving of burning for eternity, but not even that! So I repeat… so much wasted potential.
I absolutely loved this darker fantasy. It's a very twisted version of Hotel Transylvania, is all I can say without giving spoilers which I don't like to do. In a world with both monsters and humans, it highlights who's really the monsters that go bump in the night. This did have a content warning at the beginning for those of you that need it. I thought the book was amazing and didn't personally need to be warned. For me, as the story setting was, it was the perfect mixture of sex, carnage, and revenge. The only thing I will say is that this story does " head hop" a little bit. There are various characters and multiple points of view that the story frequently shifts to. For me, it wasn't an issue, but I know some readers don't particularly enjoy that. Overall, I would definitely recommend it if you enjoy dark fantasy and monsters.
Well this book did not disappoint. Looking at why "monsters" kill their human prey, this story looks at demons, vampires, witches and sirens, their ability to see what humans have done wrong and whether they deserve to die or be played with until they repent for their actions. We are invited to a grand and exclusive hotel, where Amon and his friends take a look behind the mask of humans and see if their sins can be forgiven. Each monster has a say and chance to see the humans actions and see if they are deserving of death and why. Amon has a staff of humans who are able to find and invite those humans who need to be held responsible for their actions. They look after the guests until it is time for them to meet their fate.
This was a good read! A group of monsters (Demons, Witch, Vampire and Sirens) are judge, jury and executioner of several humans deemed to have done something horrendous with no possibility of redemption.
I was definitely rooting for revenge throughout and didn't bat and eye when the bad characters got what was coming to them.
There was a small amount of fade to black spice that happened pretty early in the story.
I liked the idea the author created with the hotel.
I'd say the only real disappointment I had was with the epilogue.. I had hoped we would see Goldie being "adopted" by Julia and included in the humans role at the new hotel... But I guess she was killed with the rest of the mob and it kind of made the whole story of her dad kind of pointless to me...
I read the original story that first came out and I loved it then but I love this twisted tale even more!!
The characters were awesome!! I loved reading and getting to know these characters within the story and I felt connected to them. Their love, compassion and hate just reeled me in even more.
The storyline was phenomenal!! Having two stories in one was pure genius and I enjoyed every minute of this spooktacular ride!! Sloat did a remarkable job bringing the spookiness of the story to life and she captured my attention with the way she weaved the tales together!! It was an awesome journey and I highly recommend it!!
Ever wanted to cheer for the villians? Ever been upset at how the justice system seems unfair? Well this group of monsters decide to take matters in their own hands by targeting despicable people that have so far escaped the justice they deserve. Amon has an idea to be able to live and hunt in peace and gathers a select few fellow monsters to join his Court of Savages. Spicy scenes appear early but in line with the story so i felt that it's not out of place. Without giving anything away I loved how the author explored the moral dilemma of deciding justification of the final moments and how to fund the human staff that assist the monsters.
I thought the concept for this book was very good. It gave me some Black Mirror vibes whenever we came across a new potential hotel client. I wished it was a bit longer so that the characters and torture scenes could’ve been a bit deeper. I’m not a huge fan of violence but with the warning in the beginning, i definitely thought I’d be getting some in depth torture scenes. I wanted the author to expound on what was running through the human’s minds. It felt lacking and shallow in that area to me.
I've never read a book like this before, but WOW! That first hunt... London deserved everything she got! I loved the different ways they have of getting someone's secrets. I am glad Ina helped the little girl, even though it caused trouble in the long run. It all worked out for the best. This book just goes to show that even monsters that hunt humans and find love, fall in love and get their HEA!
OH MAN!!!! This book was definitely different than the other ones I have read by Christy Sloat and I really loved the concept. It gave me the Movie Hostile and House on Haunted Hill vibe with Monsters put together with a twist. Karma is definitely a B!*@H. If you are a fan of dark fantasy, violence and monsters then you have to read this. I don’t like giving any spoilers so you just have to read for yourself and find out!
This was pretty good. I enjoyed the "they deserve it because they've done evil" trope. It works wonderfully in a story about monsters trying to exist alongside humans.
The main troupe is a well rounded bunch of characters. But I think may favorite may be normal, human, Julia. She is absolutely perfect and has the best composure. I can't wait to see where the author goes with this concept if she plans more books.
Overall I enjoyed this book and would recommend it.
This book was a nice break from the books I usually read. However, I could've easily put the book down and not even bat an eye if I didn't go back to it (my OCD would normally be screaming). I don't know why but it just didn't grab my attention.
Imagine the animation Hotel Transylvania but the monsters actually act like monsters but only to humans that deserve to die. They have appointed themselves judge, jury, and executioner.
This story was intriguing and the characters were quite interesting. The concept was dark and fascinating... monsters hunting the vile human beings that deserve that "eye for an eye" treatment. Some of the victims were mild, so to speak, and they could've been worse to make the deserved death all the more better, however it was still a great story to read. I truly enjoyed it.
hotel you wouldn’t want a get a free VIP invitation to
Amon ancient demon set up a sanctuary of sorts for monster to hunt in peace. There only a selected guess that get to stay the hotel but what there vip guest don’t know that the monster court will be judging there acts are severe enough to be monster food.
Wow another gripping story ,bad people getting what they deserved. I love that there is different monsters if not read about til this book. All must read this book Christy sloat is amazing
Absolutely amazing book and will definitely recommend this book to anyone who likes reading. Vampire, demons and other creatures in one hotel and with help of some humans make other pay but what for and how? Read to find out.
This was such a pleasant surprise. The story flowed well, just a hint of spice, Hotel California for bad people feel, and overall quick fantastic read. I have a person I'd love to send to this hotel. Amon and the gang would just love him.
Author really watched Hotel Transylvania and said lemme write a book but let's have no plot and characters with no actual personality. Oh and while we are at it let's also neglect any sort of worldbuilding cause all our readers need to be reminded is that the cast is made up of monsters and no other information is important.
