Hello! Good-Bye!

Rate this book
Hello. Good-bye.
Every day we use these words.
In one way or another we say
them again and again.
We say "hello" when we meet.
We say "good-bye" when we part.
They are a beginning and an end.
Who but the incomparable Aliki would be able to take these two simple words and show us that they are filled with possibilities. There are many different kinds of hellos -- and just as many good-byes. And each can be filled with excitement and surprise. Start reading-and say hello to fun!

This isn't your typical children's book because it focuses on the meaning of Hello and Good-bye throughout the book. I think that this book would be great for English language learners because it provides them with many examples of what hello and goodbye means. Hello can be seen in many different ways, as an introduction, with no words, it can be said in another language, it can be a salute or you can use it at the beginning of a letter. There are many different moods that come with the word hello and you can say it in different tones of voice.
Personally, this isn't my favorite children's book but I like the concept of it. I think it would be good for children in grades K-2 to see examples of the word hello and goodbye and that it can be used in a plethora of ways. You could also have the children act out different ways to say hello or goodbye!

A cute book about the many types of greetings and goodbyes. It's full of comics style illustrations and there are lots of things to point out. I'm never sure how much the kid retains from books done in this style, but he seems to enjoy reading it, so I wouldn't be surprised if he's absorbing more than he lets on.

My girls 3 & 9 were immediately drawn in and captivated by this book. It has such a simple premise and yet it's enriching.

Good for preschool age children because it shows meaning behind the two very useful words, hello and goodbye. It gives many examples of nonverbal and verbal ways of saying hello and goodbye. It also incorporates many different languages, so children are able to see the diverse ways people use these words.
This book is good for language learners since it includes many diverse cultures and languages, through the written words and illustrations. It can be used to introduce young children to language and cultural diversity in the classroom. It can also be used to teach social skills for young children since it shows many different ways these two words are used (verbally and nonverbally).
