Pregnant with twins, Jolie is preparing for the annual Halloween Pumpkin Bash and the birth of her children when tragedy strikes. While trying to rescue three kittens, Jolie’s car is hit, sending her on an unbelievable journey.

This is my first experience with this series, so I did not have knowledge of the characters or any past events when I read the book. The author included a character list in the front matter which I found to be very helpful.

All in all, I found the book to be an okay read. The prose was easy enough to digest and the book provided a few hours of entertainment. I found myself confused about what was actually happening in a few places as I read through when Jolie was in the other realm, where rules were a bit different than in the real world. Having not read the series before, I’m not sure if I would have had a better understanding if I’d been more familiar with past happenings or not.

The book had a unique premise and I gathered that it was basically providing the set up for Book 8’s mystery. Since it was only a novella, there were loose ends left which I am guessing will be tied up in the next full novel.

I thought the book was an interesting read and enjoyable enough to kill a few hours. If you’re already a fan of the series, I’m sure you’ll enjoy this holiday novella.

Will Jolie be able to make it back before her twins are born?
Jolie Tucker is having a weird time in this installment. She is hit by a car and now is stuck in a coma while being in this odd in-between place before going where you need to go in the afterlife. A lot is happening in this little novella that I don't want to spoil too much, but Jolie does fumble around a lot. There might be clues scattered around the book. The clues could tell us about what is happening to Jolie and Ava in future installments. I still like Jolie as the main character, even if she's a bit on the weird side with her relationship with Ava. No mystery in this one. It was more of Jolie trying to do things in this odd place where she meets her great Grandma again after a while of her being gone.

I feel like Ms. Rath is gearing up for things to get complicated for Ava and Jolie in however many books are left in this series. I am looking forward to seeing what Ms. Rath has planned.

Not a whole lot happened mystery-wise in here, and that makes me sad. I guess it was more of a filler to cross the bridge to end this mystery of Leavensport and Tri-City. Ms. Rath does know how to keep the readers entertained in this novella. I am giving four stars to Punkin Strudel Mayhem by Jodi Rath and recommending it.

REVIEW

Well this novella certainly got me in the mood for Halloween! I have loved this series from the get go, watching the banter between Jolie and Ava as they work together to solve another mystery in their little town of Leavensport, but this book was not the usual in that respect and I actually missed all those things.

Jolie gets into a car accident and from here the story takes a weird turn - she is essentially between worlds, in a coma in the hospital whilst her 'spirit' is having an out of body experience that sees her find out more about her ancestors and go on the hunt for a goblet that was stolen from her great gran, before she makes her way back to her body.

There was lots of spooky goings on in the spirit world, whilst everyone in the real world was eager to get Jolie back and awake before the twins were born as they were due any day!

Not the usual read from the series but I did enjoy it all the same, I look forward to the next book being 'back to normal' though.....

In Punkin Strudel Mayhem, Jolie and Ava are best friends and business partners in a restaurant. The two are so close, they are both pregnant. Jolie with twins.

Something happens on a chill October day and Jolie is launched into the Betwixt & In-between World. The nightmarish World is full of witches, mummies, a Snake Lady, and a vampire. It also has Jolie’s deceased friends, enemies, and relatives. How did Jolie get here? More importantly, how can she get out?

This entry in the series is a clear departure from the usually humorous cozy mystery format of the series. It reminds me of Disney’s Haunted House. The story is not truly frightening but more gently scary. However, it did get me in the Halloween mood though I missed the usual mystery to be solved. 3 stars!

Jolie and Ava are pregnant and getting ready for the Halloween Bash. Jolie has an accident and is in a state between life and death. She is meeting her relatives and trying to survive. This is a cute cozy mystery. It however does not really have a mystery.
