Have you ever been afraid to live and afraid to die? Felt anxious, alone or desperately sad? Have you ever been overwhelmed with joy? Loved so much it felt amazing and it hurt? Faced adversity and wanted to give up but somehow found the will to continue? Have you ever felt someone else's sorrow or love? Or just simply been curious about everything in the universe and life? Well prepare yourself to go on a vulnerable, emotional journey of personal experiences articulated through poem. If you relate to any of the emotions, or feelings in these poems, my wish is that you may find, inspiration, encouragement, and hope.
I received a copy of this book as a part of Goodreads giveaway in exchange for an honest review.
My favorite thing that the author did was write a small introduction before each poem saying how he was inspired to write the poem. Honestly I wish every author did as it gives you a small insight into their lives to know what inspired them. I also find it really helpful from a writer’s point of view to know that inspiration is everywhere. Sometimes you forget that.
I also liked that the author made the lines rhymed. Which is honestly just a personal favorite of mine.
I will definitely check out this author’s other writings.
**I received an ebook copy of this poetry collection from a Goodreads Giveaway for an honest opinion**
I would honestly rate this between a 2.5 and 3 stars.
I can appreciate that the author put his emotion into these poems and that they came from a personal place. I just did not vibe with them as much as I would have liked (which is definitely more related to my personal taste, compared to the author and his writing).
However, some of the writing seemed a little juvenile and repetitive, in my opinion; while I only felt surface level meanings from some of them. Because of that, many of the poetry did not evoke the emotion I was looking for. I wanted to feel a deeper meaning.
I also found that the explanations before each poem unnecessary, and I don’t think they are needed. I would have personally just liked reading them without context to be able to develop my own emotional response to his words. I feel that poetry should evoke emotion to the reader for relatability with the words, and not necessarily why it was written. Truthfully, after about 50% of the way into the book, I found myself skipping the explanations altogether for these reasons.
Addiction to Poetry was a surprisingly fun book to read. The rhythmic poetry brought a smile to my face and reminded me of books I read when I was younger. Purposeful lines flowing and painting words into the art of life. This book is enjoyable and relaxing. I could see myself rereading these sweet poems.
Loved this book. Very enjoyable easy read. The author tells you before each poem a place he was at in his life that inspired him to write. I could relate similar events in my life and enjoyed the way he shared his feelings. Read this.
I loved that the author wrote what inspired him to write the poem before each one. I LOVE that! As an artist myself, I love understanding what inspires someone to create.
