"Telgi: A Reporter's Diary" by Sanjay Singh is an exploration of a man's audacious journey into the world of counterfeiting, where he managed to amass a fortune worth thousands of crores while orchestrating a scam of staggering proportions. The book serves as the source material for the SonyLIV web series "SCAM2003: The Telgi Story."

It delves deep into the life and activities of Telgi, who specialized in the stamp scam, while shedding light on the trials and tribulations faced by the journalist who covered the story. The reader is taken behind the scenes, both in front of and behind the camera, to experience the emotional and mental turmoil that the author and others endured.

What I liked about this book is the author's commitment to presenting a balanced account. Sanjay Singh's intention in writing this book was not to vilify any particular individual or tarnish their reputation with baseless accusations. Instead, he meticulously follows the investigative trail, relying on police chargesheets, statements from investigators, and relevant media content, as well as the testimonies of witnesses.

It's important to note that the book does not pass judgment or declare anyone guilty. In fact, the author acknowledges that allegations in chargesheets are not always proven true, and many accused individuals are ultimately acquitted by the courts. The judicial system plays a crucial role in sorting out the truth, and the author respects this process.

"Telgi: A Reporter's Diary" provides an in-depth and thought-provoking exploration of a notorious scam that captured the nation's attention. Sanjay Singh's dedication to a fair and factual representation of the events, along with his insights into the world of journalism, makes this book a compelling read for those interested in true crime and investigative reporting.

This book is written in such a way that you will be gripped to the book till the end. Author has done a remarkable job in writing in this book. Before reading this book I always have been very curious by how does these scams actually happen and how does nobody understands these scams but now I have answers for all my questions. Author has written this book in such a detailed way that you will get a lot of information, He has added every key factor regarding the scam in this book for exposing the notorious Abdul Karim Telgi, the mastermind behind India's staggering stamp paper scam. Sanjay Singh is a former NDTV reporter he tells the complete story of Telgi who came from a decent background and entered the criminal world and built a multibillion-dollar empire. Author did a lot of research and personal interviews before writing this book. He is an experienced man with a lot of wisdom and you can see that in the book.

This book has all the components for a perfect book, blend of mystery, suspense, and unexpected twists, this book is a must-read for anyone who loves a thrilling ride. Sony Live web series Scam 1992 is also based on this book and and used this for source material. I liked this book so much because author did not attempt to portray a single character negatively and ruin their reputation, instead his whole book was based on investigative trail, relying on police chargesheets, statements from investigators, and relevant media content, as well as the testimonies of witnesses. He did not try to blame anyone guilty, he just showed the whole truth to everyone and let everyone have their own opinion and perspective and he even acknowledged that not everything that is shown is a hundred percent accurate.

This book is a must read, I personally recommend this book to everyone. This is not just a book it’s an experience. It covers even the smallest details of the scam. Cover page of the book is also brilliant, it goes perfectly with the book. Highly recommended!!

Telgi: A Reporter's Diary by Sanjay Singh is a masterpiece in the investigative journal genre. It goes like a fictional narrative of two protagonists that remain in the book like banter. The young reporter with NDTV Sanjay Singh, and the subject Abdul Karim Telgi. Sanjay Singh had to depart from Star News...well before he could join the new venture NDTV. But he had to make an entry with a bang. He needed a case to expose that can shot his news channel and him in the limelight.

As he got into the research on the Telgi case, we came to know about the destitute background of Abdul Karim, born and brought up in a village named Telgi, on the borders of Maharashtra and Karnataka. Abdul Karim first did scam as a tour and travel agent and then he got into stamp paper. On his side were many officials from Nashik’s printing press to Mumbai police department. Exposing the Telgi case was a risky affair for the young reporter. He had his own professional struggles. The book sheds light on the dark intriguing nature of newsrooms…what it takes to live news against prominent people.

Telgi’s personal story was quite interesting. He produced movies, spent 80 lakh in just one night in a dance bar. Even when Telgi was captured and remained in jail, his business of counterfeit stamp papers continued. The reporter did entire work to expose the scam. Reporting in India isn’t that easy, the narrative of Sanjay Singh confronts this truth; however, the book did not get under the skeins of judgment. The book remains as holistic as it could towards its subject: Telgi scam. Published by Harper Collins, the book provides content material for SonyLIV web series SCAM 2003.

Sanjay Singh's "Telgi: A Reporter's Diary" is a gripping and meticulously detailed exposé of the notorious Abdul Karim Telgi, the mastermind behind India's staggering stamp paper scam. Singh, a former NDTV reporter, skillfully delves into the astonishing rise of Telgi from a humble background to a criminal orchestrating a multibillion-dollar empire of counterfeit stamps.
Through extensive investigative work, personal interviews, and access to confidential case documents, Singh paints a vivid picture of Telgi's cunning strategies and the intricate web of corruption that sustained his fraudulent enterprise for over a decade.

What is more interesting is that the SonyLIV web series "SCAM 2003: The Telgi Story" is a riveting adaptation that brings to life Sanjay Singh's meticulously documented narrative from "Telgi: A Reporter's Diary," brilliantly depicting the complexities of Abdul Karim Telgi's infamous counterfeit empire, offering a visual realization of the book's compelling investigative journey.

Overall I have enjoyed the book and like to say that the author's comprehensive and engaging narrative offers a revealing insight into the magnitude and intricacies of Telgi's counterfeit empire, making this book an enlightening and captivating read for anyone interested in true crime and investigative journalism.

Sanjay Singh, the brave man who reported the entire incident has well jotted his investigative journal in this book. All the reports summarised and have an in-depth analysis of the 30,000 Crore scam which had involvement of various politicians and policemen. The series: Scam 2003 has also been drafted with the help of this book.

You can any day watch the series and read the book for later or vice-versa. For an in-depth and first-hand understanding read the book first and then watch the series.

This books lets the reader deep inside the investigation after the scam was exposed as the author walks you through how the events unfolded. This reads like a good crime thriller and doesn’t bore you. Since I read the book English translation, the translator could have done a better job as there were instances where the author’s emotions were not well put. Nonetheless, anyone interested in the crime world, should definitely give it a read.

Well written account and the use of old school journalism. Highlights the perils of reporting and the unfortunate fact that justice is not entirely served in many of the cases.
