DNF 69%. I almost pushed through, but then I read the blurb for the next book. Charlotte was really starting to grate on my nerves with her impulsive behavior. She was justified in being mad about being held against her will, but why sleep with the guy and do all of the subversive behavior? He’s pretty much welcoming her into the family and she’s spying for another mafia. STUPID. Also, I had some issues with the premise of the book. Indentured servitude over only $40!? What!? I liked the chemistry between the MC’s. I liked the steamy scenes. I love the author’s writing style. I liked the spunky h at first, but she continued to lose my favor until the point she was acting so stupid that I wanted to pull my hair out. I just can’t continue. I’ll skim the rest of this book and try a different read by this author.

The storyline was good but a lot of stuff felt fake. I mean was this a mafia book turned into a beauty and beast Disney movie? I couldn’t tell. 😬😫

SPOILERS AHEAD ❌⚠️‼️

Now I can freely talk, lol. 🙄Let’s try to understand this story, we have this big mafia boss who captured a starving girl because of $40.00??? Umm okay? I mean really? It’s so lame that he became a turn off. Then you have the magical daughter show up with a note but don’t even do a paternity test to make sure she’s your child? Wow big boss has some brains 🤣 Now let’s get to the other fun stuff. We see someone come into Charlottes room through the window, now this mafia boss has no cameras on the compound? Not even one near his daughter and his captives room? Like come on?? Can you at least make the book a little believable? There is so much more I can name but that would be like writing an essay and I don’t want to do that lol. I do however want to add one more that really annoyed me, Charlotte letting a captor go and no one finds out about it??? wtf is this story??? You have a mafia compound and no guards? No cameras ? And no sight on how he left? Come. The. Fuck. On. 🤬

The only thing I did like in this book was that Charlotte was a boss ass B who didn’t take shit from anyone, and I love a girl who can tell a man off. It’s always fun to see a tough girl in these mafia books. 🖤🙌🏻💪🏻💋 now let’s finish this book because it did leave me interested with that cliffhanger.

Lets be honest, the reason he kept her was over a $40 bill. Give me a break. Mafia or no Mafia, rich people would not get upset to the point of forcing someone as their prisoner because they were hungry and resulted in stealing for meal. Some would be mad because someone got over on them, but would not mentally or physically harm them.
She might have been young but she was a survivor due to her life on the street. She tolerated whatever he gave out and stood up to him. Him using her to take care of his daughter because he had no idea what to do with a selfless child. I have to give this writer credit when it came to them falling for each other. She made it realistic. This was not a strong hate but a sad hate. Both were abused as children and didn't know how to trust or forgive. Both fell in love with his daughter, Evie. Him not know how to deal with a person that only wanted his love. Her realizing she has it in her how to care and take care of others without suspecting they wanted something from her. This book was stretched to long. Both books should have been combined which would have made for a stronger story.

This book didn’t make sense!

Biggest mob boss?

Why didn’t the H investigate the little girl who showed up out of nowhere with a note claiming she’s his daughter?

How the hell did the h’s ex break into her room undetected?

Why the hell did the H just let the h’s BFF go when she broke into the compound? Then continue to let her come and go as she pleases!

Honestly, there’s so much shit happening in his house and he has NO idea. None!

This was book 1 in the "Mazzeo Mafia" . This was a good read Charlotte was brought to him because she is a thief a liar and sneak. I chained her in my cell beneath my mansion with a plan to get rid of her at dawn. Until a little girl who turns out to be his daughter is left at his door with a note. I really liked both of these characters. Lucio is a Don and he took back everything his father lost and now rules the empire with an iron fist. Lucio makes her an offer she really can't refuse he needs a nanny for his daughter. These two begin to get close and start trusting each other, but Lucio has enemies who are coming after him. I love reading this authors mafia drama. This book was well written with no errors in grammar or spelling. This book left off on a cliffhanger. I am looking forward to reading the next book.

Charlotte ends up stealing from Lucio, a Mafia Don and ends up imprisoned in a cellar in his house to be dealt with in the morning. When morning arrives Lucio has another problem, his daughter is dropped off at his house and he needs a nanny. Charlotte gets the job and sparks begin to fly, but is she also a mole for the Polish Mafia? Has she betrayed Lucio? Fast-paced read with loads of drama, suspense and steam. Looking forward to finding out what happens in the next book. I liked it.

4.5 ⭐️ All I will say is if Lucio forgives Charlotte at the end of book two, he’s a clown. All things considered, he treated her so well, and she continuously betrayed him. If she had confessed from day one, he would have helped her. 🙎🏻‍♀️

Diving right into book two to see how this mess ends. 🙅🏻‍♀️

i really liked the h spunk, but she kept lying and lying digging her self deeper and deeper.
Hate when the MC drama is because they don't talk and are honest with each other.

The H for a big bad Mob boss is the most gullible person ever! There's no background check, no DNA test... He just goes with it!!

Why did the author made the h 21??? Why the h are always so young but don't act their age!! Any younger and she wouldn't even be legal...
She doesn't act 21 and the math doesn't add up! (she dated her ex for 1.5years said that they breakup a long time ago but she's still 21)

I have read to many Mafia(One of my favorite tropes) books to love this one.
Lucio is no Capo.
This man let a woman into his house and never bother to found out who she really is.
He never dug deeper into how his daughter came to him.
Xander get into his compound with no problem, into the nanny room no less.
Vanessa the crazy friend just walks in.
Adriano is a joke as a consigliere.
Don't get me started with Charlotte. She purposely reveald herself to a prisoner. She let another escape..all that under the " Capo" nose.
Lucio takes a meeting with the Polish Capo at his house?
No Capo/Don worth their salt would ever do that.
And this guy goes rumming around his house and...you know what happened.
For a while there I thought the platypus was a recorder or some shit like that..but Nicole is not that inventive.
This book is no mafia book.

I borrowed from KU. I DNF at 54%. There is a lot I am willing to overlook and still finish a book since there really only needs to be one redeeming quality for me to stick it out. Have terrible writing and inconsistencies on almost every page but the story IDEA is good? I'll stick it out for closure... That is not this book no matter how many glowing five star BookSprout reviews you read below.

The premise is weak from the very first page... who literally works a triple shift as a waitress at a fancy restaurant but doesn't have money for shoes, let alone her rent and so her landlord illegally changes the lock to illicit a sexual favor for a rent extension. This exchange fails because she's "not that kind of girl".

Fast forward a few lines and she eats an authentic Italian restaurant and orders multiple dinners but when she goes to pay.... Oops she doesn't have her wallet. So being a waitress herself, she does the most logical thing and runs out on her $40 meal which is apparently a bad enough offense to go straight to the Mafia Don himself!

What follows is bad time recall on the characters parts (all chapters start with "Later that day" or "Three days later" but in the same chapter they will talk about time passing differently), absurd plot devices like mentioning how secure the compound is and yet someone "just happening" to get past all security and in to the house undetected and no reason given for sudden emotional growth (his kid is terrified of him one day then doesn't mind him the next).

I tried. I really did because I know thay personally, just the act of writing a book at all is amazing BUT this isn't her first book, or even or second. There is no excuse for such sloppy development and lack of attention.

Great book!

I loved concept of this book. It has all the makings of a great alpha male/mafia book My only negative critique would be the heroine is too niave and ignorant! She really is not very smart. I kept thinking no one can be this stupid. A few times , I actually wanted to stop reading it. Not sure if I want to endure reading about her stupidity anymore, which is unfortunate, because otherwise I really did like the storyline, she just needed to be a better character.

Wow wow wow aplausos por favor 👏👏👏

Dos cosas antes que nada:

Afortunadamente no me arrepiento.

Charlotte, after a long day at work, sees her life change in a matter of hours. She is kicked out of her apartment, and hungry she enters a restaurant to eat, but when she finishes she realizes that she has lost her wallet and tries to leave without paying, but in the end she doesn’t succeed. And this is how she ends up face to face with Lucio Mazzeo, Don of one of the most dangerous mafia families in NY.
Lucio receives 2 surprises on the same day: one is Charlotte and the other one is a little girl with a note saying that she is his daughter.
So Lucio decides that Charlotte will take care of Evie while he seeks answers. But things get complicated when the Polish declare war on him. And is it that Lucio has several traitors among his ranks, traitors who are helping the Polish, and as long as he doesn’t locate them all, neither he nor his daughter will be safe.
His relationship with Charlotte is rather hostile, since she is captive, although thanks to Evie, seems that things between them are improving. Although what neither of the 2 can deny is the immense attraction they feel.
As you progress through the book you can feel the tension. And the ending? Bufff!!!! It will leave you breathless and wanting to know what will happen now that it seems that all the secrets have come to light.

“Never forget what I told you, Charlotte,” he whispers. “You belong to me now. Make sure your friend knows that any information she carries out of here is classified. And if she starts talking to anyone that she shouldn’t be talking to… I will kill her. But not fast. It will be long. It will be slow. It will be painful. But if I hear your friend is creating problems for me out there, I will keep you hidden here forever.”

“The only way I’ll ever belong to you… is if I give myself to you,” I say, pressing my chest up against his. “And that’ll never fucking happen.” He’s still got his hand around my neck. And I return the favor by grabbing his neck with my one hand that’s not trapped beneath his body. “That’s why I piss you off so much, isn’t it?” I continue. I’m shooting in the dark. But it’s all I have. “It’s because you know you can never truly possess me,” I continue. “Not really. Not truly. And deep down, that makes you very, very angry.”

“But remember, brother: the world is full of snakes. The most dangerous are the ones you least expect.”

Although I have been wanting to read her novels for a while now, this is actually my first book by Nicole Fox and I am so so glad I finally picked it up! Wow wow wow, this book is the perfect balance of action, suspense, steam and personal struggles. The characters are beautifully complex and balanced, with incredible depth, making them truly real; I was right there with them, feeling their emotions and living their lives as my own.

The main characters, Lucio, Charlotte and Evie, are all damaged in their own ways, but their building relationships are helping them try to overcome their issues. Charlotte becomes more self-assured and confident, while keeping her fire, her fierceness and vulnerabilities. Lucio, on the other hand, progresses in the opposite direction: he maintains his don persona of toughness, control and coldness, but he softens up a lot towards Charlotte and Evie. Evie is just the most adorable kid and her growing bond with both protagonists, although rocky at the start with Lucio, is absolutely heartwarming. Even the secondary characters - Adriano, the "annoying" (not really though) and hilarious best friend; Enzo, the softer and endearing sort-of-father-figure-slash-friend; and Vanessa, the feisty and protective best friend - are fantastic. And I don't know how Nicole Fox managed it, but I even fell in love with Paulie, Evie's platypus stuffed toy. Unbelievable!

Charlotte and Lucio's relationship is explosive and a constant battle for control. Although it does slowly improve throughout the book, there is so much push and pull as they try to fight their attraction. Luckily for us, they can't keep their sizzling chemistry tamped down for long and their sex scenes are oh so hot and steamy.

All the while, the fast-paced action and the intrigue kept me on the edge of my seat and I couldn't put the book down. And what a cliffhanger in the end! Absolutely can't wait to read the second book in Mazzeo Mafia duet and get the answers I am desperate for.

The addition starts with the book cover….yeah…yeah…yeah don’t judge a book by its cover they say ….well we all do it and this one here it is the scratch to your itch or better yet the filling to your oreos! Speaking of filling…..wait, that’s for later. Within the first chapters you get the panoramic view of whom you’re dealing with!
Bad boy….check
Bod boy’s crazy brother/friend…check
Bad boy’s Kryptonie…check ….check and check
By the time you’ve figured out who is who and how deep hate can run, you’re already hooked, and you may as well give up the fight and prepare yourself for an all-nighter!
Can’t say I didn’t warn you.
OKAY LET ME START OF WITH I REALLY ….REALLY HATE CLIFTHANGERS…EVEN THOUGH I WAS WARNED BEFORE HAND I COULDN’T HELP MYSELF IN SELECTING THIS BOOK TO READ ESPECIALLY KNOWING THE AUTHORS STYLE! Okay not that I have gotten that out of the way let start with Charlotte she was dealt a really bad in the parent department and ultimately it shaped her in good ways and bad ways. She laid herself on the knife for a man she thought loved her and was her boyfriend only to learn the hard way he was out for himself. She was brought to Lucio attention due to taking bread with out paying for it and she would have been dealt with, but a little girl (his daughter) is left on his doorstep with a note to take care of her and so he finds something better for Charlotte she will be his daughter’s nanny. There is a rat in his camp, and we all know what happens to rats within the mafia. When the war breaks out with the Polish Mafia and he realizes the girl he has fallen for and brought into his home is the rat. Emotional bounds weren’t on the menu, and attachments certainly weren’t supposed to form. But when love rears her beautiful head and throws yet another wrench into the works well that is where the cliffhanger comes in, so I am waiting patiently for the part two so stay tuned.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher/author to review

My soldiers threw Charlotte at my feet and told me what she was. A thief. A liar. A sneak. I chained her in my cell beneath my mansion with a plan to get rid of her at dawn. But something made me change my mind. That something? A little girl arriving at my doorstep, desperate and alone.. With a note in her hand that changes everything.
"This is your daughter. Her mother is dead. She's your responsibility now."
Now I need a nanny for the daughter I never knew I had. Lucky for me, I've got he perfect solution... And she's locked up in my cellar as we speak.

This is the story of Lucio and Charlotte. Lucio is a Don and he took back everything his father lost and now rules the empire with an iron fist. One day a girl is slung at his feet labeled a liar a thief and had been sneaking around. So Charlotte is in a mess that there is no way of getting out of since he has her chained in his cellar and she knows that she is going to lose her life. But on that same very day he never expects to see a desperate little girl on his doorstep that has a not saying that she is his daughter and her mother is dead. He knows that he knows nothing about taking care of little ones and needs a nanny for his daughter right away. Just so happens that he already has one chained up in his cellar. After all what a better way her Charlotte to work off her debt to him that caring for his daughter. But when his empire starts to crumble and his heart starts to soften for these ladies that are suddenly thrown into his life Charlottes past that is haunting her is a lot closer than any of them knows. This book ends on a crazy crazy cliffhanger and I need to know what is going to happen next. This book was so good and I enjoyed every single second of reading it. It is on that is about impossible to lay down too.

I really liked some components of this story but found some of the story a bit far fetched. I liked that that the author took a different approach/storyline to a Mafia story that provided the reader with lots of maybe's and innuendos leading the reader on a roller coaster ride at times. Lucio was a Mafia Don who I actually liked for the most part, but found the whole $40.00 episode a bit ridiculous. I loved his daughter Evie but also found it surprising that he didn't have a paternity test to establish that she was really his daughter. The history with Evie's mother explained some of it later on but still found it surprising that he didn't confirm that this was his child.

Charlotte was a bloody mess from day one. She had a messed up childhood and aligned herself with one loser after another digging herself into one massive screw-up after another. She had a good heart but her decision making skills and ability to "say what was on her mind" along with a lack of common sense was frustrating throughout book one. She meant well but was her own worst enemy causing one problem after another for herself and the people around her.

She and Lucio's attraction for one another is a slow burn one that comes to fruition by the last part of book one. Her love for Evie is exceptional; protecting her as if she was her own child. She saw things in Evie that she identified with from her own awful childhood which made their relationship very strong.

The end is predictable as Charlotte continues to dig herself deeper and deeper with the Polish Mafia Don and her ex-boyfriend, the rogue cop. She could have come clean to Lucio but unfortunately runs out of time and gets exposed as the "mole".

Having read this author before I expect that book 2 will connect the dots/characters and bring this story full circle.

Enjoy!

Liar's Lullaby
Mazzeo Mafia Book 1
by Nicole Fox
Narrated by Roxelana Waters & Michael Gallagher

No one warned me how invested I was going to get when I began listening to this book! I love mafia romantic suspense and have heard great things about Nicole Fox so thought I would give her a try. And now I am hooked. Charlotte is down on her luck and after making a bad choice is caught stealing dinner. Now in most cases that wouldn't be so bad, but when the restaurant is owned by Lucio, Don of the Italian mafia, it is not so easy to get away with. When these two meet, there is instant chemistry and he decides to put her on his staff.
What he doesn't know is the secrets and situation she is in that could destroy his life. Thrills a minute, cringe-worthy scenes, passion galore and a don with a little girl, this book has it all. I was enthralled from start to finish, feeling every emotion with Charlotte, trying to see where each twist and turn would take us! It's the best kind of listen. This is a duet, so I knew I would be left hanging, so now I wait (im)patiently for their conclusion!

Narration for a book like this is key. You want the characters to be believable and the choice of Michael Gallagher and Roxelana Waters could not be better. Gallagher is fresh and strong as Lucio. He has a cold heart, and Gallagher brings it all out. As he thaws, you can hear the changes and it's fantastic. Waters is new to me, and I loved her as Charlotte. She has a lot of layers and Waters pulls them off with the perfect inflections in each scene. It's a great listen and I can't wait for part 2!

✴️✴️ONE SPECTACULAR ADVENTURE✴️✴️
Skimming scooters scooby! Nicole unleashes one incredibly tantalizing, ground shaking, boot-stomping, rock-my-world tsunami, bringing all the badassery and finesse you can deal, serving up some ruthless facts, brutal lessons and callous tactics, blasting this hot little number to staggering heights. Hurled head-long into unfamiliar territory chocked-full of riveting drama, gripping intrigue, brutal tactics, spiraling danger, electrifying suspense and nailbiting situations ensue, testing our characters in ways they could have never imagined, wrapping this jewel up sleek, shiny and tight. Negotiating the formidable struggles and challenging triumphs, while attentive to the perilous twists and wicked turns unfolding, broken boundaries and sketchy lines soldify as limitations are amplified and exploited, reaching deep for every ounce of strength in a fierce surge of determination, launching forward with such intensity and vigor, bursting this baby to life brilliantly. The characters are complex, genuine and realistic with traits and qualities that balance and blend, with amazing depth and diversity and enough spice to add an extra kick to the mix. Throw in 100% on point realism, raising the stakes with such graphic scenarios that are so colorfully descriptive and vividly detailed its like you're living it with them instead of on the sidelines, feeling everything the characters feel. Remarkable job Nicole, thanks for sharing this awesome little gem with us.

Part 1 of Lucio and Charlotte's Story

This is a 550 page book about 2 characters who are disagreeable for more than half the book.
Lucio Mazzeo is the Don of his mafia family. He rebuilt his empire after the death of his abusive and incompetent father. He is cold, distant, fiercely loyal, and views people as his property.
Charlotte Dunn is a 21 year old failure. She is a waitress who owes back rent, has no food, can't afford shoes, and is locked out of her ghetto apartment. She tries to dine and dash but is caught. Unfortunately for her, the restaurant was owned by Lucio, and he punishes her by imprisoning her, all for a $46 tab.
Concurrently, a 6 year old girl is left at Lucio's compound with a note stating that her mother is dead and that she is his daughter.
Lucio decides that Charlotte will be the child's nanny, only giving her room and board and no salary, indefinitely. Again to repay the $46 tab.
There is a mob war with the Polish, that is exacerbated by Charlotte becoming a rat in his household.
Lucio has difficulty expressing affection towards his daughter, but he becomes more human as the book progresses. Charlotte is nasty and obnoxious to Lucio for most of the book, plus she lies constantly. She had a difficult life and distrusts everyone.
The cliffhanger ending is intense.

An action packed, beautiful story. This book brings us Lucio Mazzeo, Charlotte and Evie. Charlotte is barely making ends meet, and when her landlord evicts her, she has nowhere to go, and she is so hungry. She decides to go to a restaurant and has a lovely meal, only to realize she has no money to pay for her dinner. She tries to run, but is captured. Lo and behold, the restaurant is owned by none other than Lucio. The same night, he finds out about a daughter he never knew about, so he hires Charlotte to look after Evie. Lucio is trying so hard not to be a man like his father but his doubts keep getting in the way of a relationship with Evie, as she is afraid of him. She takes an instant liking of Charlotte, and they get along very well together. There is such a major twist in this story, and without revealing anything, this is how the rest of the story goes. You feel for Charlotte, as she is so afraid of becoming her mother, but she does realize that she has feelings for Evie and vows to protect her. Yes, this ends in a cliffhanger (I hate those), but hopefully we won't have to wait too long for the continuation. You MUST read this book. I did receive an arc for an honest review.

Clutching My Pearls!

No!!!! It can't end like that!?!
Cliffhangers, are the worst!!!! Ugh!?! This book is just so freaking good! Couldn't put it down!?!
Let me just say that Nicole Fox made this book so visceral that my heart was pounding, and was biting my nails so much that I have nubs now! LOL
I enjoyed the push and pull between Charlotte & Lucio; no one wants to give in.
Our heroine faces up to who she is and is willing to challenge/face it all down no matter the cost to herself. Loved that!!
Lucio, is as damaged as they come and it’s basically take him as he is or don't it doesn't faze him either way; and makes no apologies for what he does/says. Gotta say that's hot as hell!!
Yeah, they're both flawed, but that's what makes this story work.
The harsh realities of life and the choices we make to either make it better or just survive what we've been dealt.
This book has major drama, traumatic past events, suspense, action, betrayal, steamy/hot scenes, and mafia turf war!
***The book is meant for adults and some scenes/events may cause triggers, just be aware.***
I really did enjoy this book! Seriously. I'm excited for the follow-up! On to the next!

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Normally I don't read cliffhangers but something about Liar's Lullaby drew me in. I am so glad it did. This is my first book by Nicole Fox and I can say I love it. It has hot romance and lots of action.

This book took the time to develop the characters. Charlotte Dunn is a strong woman. Growing up she learned to survive. She finds herself in a horrible situation. Lucio Mazzeo is the Don of the family. He is tough and is heartless to his enemies. Evie is his six year old daughter. This adorable little girl just appeared at his door.

Liars Lullaby is a big book but it is worth the time. The pace is perfect. You are able to spend time with the characters and get to know them and their motivation. You can't help but care about them. You especially care about Lucio, the antihero. He is mean, driven, violent and unforgiving. We see him at his worst. Yet with Charlotte and Evie in his life Lucio is the kid who just wanted to to have a family that loved him.

Again there is a cliffhanger but I immediately flipped to see the next book. It is a sign of a great book that I want to keep reading. If you love the mafia romance genre, this book is a must read.

One moment he was single no he has a daughter and a woman he’s responsible for
This had been a very dramatic time in the life of the Mazzeo Mafia head especially after he had his soldiers throw a woman at his feet informing him that they had caught he stealing and that even worse she was a liar and that could not be tolerated.
He had taken her as his prisoner and Charlotte had known that she was locked in and chained beneath his mansion at his beck and call, his too do as he pleases with.
Then one day a baby was left on the doorstep informing him that he was in fact the father and that he had to care for the baby girl, her mother was dead and he was her only parent and he would do right by her no matter what it takes.
He now knows that he knows nothing at all about babies but there is a potential nanny locked up in his basement. Whether she knew it or not she was going to help him to raise the child so that she would know she was loved and cared for.
This was a wonderful first book in the series I cannot wait to read the second book in this series.
I voluntarily received and review an Advanced Reader Copy
I thoroughly enjoyed the book and look forward to reading any future publications; keep up all the great writing.
